Abstract:
Sterija, the first high school professor in Kragujevac, gave his introductory lecture of natural law on December 1-st in the year 1840. According to the understanding and terminology of his epoch Sterija differentiates positive from natural law. The positive law depends on lawgiver's will, is variable and arbitrary. The natural law is unchangeable and has universal validity.

This essay is about the emergence of a new sensibility and a new textuality in Serbian Modernism/postmodernism, constituted by the poetic and prose works of Miloš Crnjanksi amongst other. A survey of earlier, 19th century Serbian prose and drama, demonstrates that the Modernist/postmodern poetics had its antecedents in the works of Jovan Sterija Popović and Đorđe Marković Koder, which demonstrates the continuity of Serbian literature through the all the phases inherent in European (French) literatures of the 19th and 20th century. Saint Vladimir of Dioclea (i.e. Zeta) (c. 990–1016) left very few traces in medieval sources, and yet, for centuries now, he is present throughout the Balkans, notably in the areas of modern Albania, Bulgaria, Montenegro, Macedonia and Serbia. Compared to other notable medieval holy kings (e.g. Saint Stefan of Dečani), Saint Vladimir is a “vague” character; he was never as popular and his representations were never fully standardized nor uniformed – he is often simultaneously addressed with few names (Vladimir/Jovan/Jovan Vladimir) and with more than one title (an emperor/Tsar, king or prince)

In this article, the play Sudbina jednog razuma [The Destiny of One?s Reason] by Jovan Sterija Popovic is analysed as displaying a specific continuation and climax of the debates about Milovan Spasic?s textbook titled Zemljeopisanije celog svjeta [The Geography of the Whole World] (1845). More specifically, the focus of the investigation is placed upon those aspects of the debates in question which concern the tendencies in building the scientific register of the Serbian literary language.
