Abstract:

Architecture is the thoughtful making of spaces. Within the last decades of architectural history the role of the architect in society and therefore of architecture itself changed. Issues such as space and architectural language gain significance.Narrative architects such as Bernard Tschumi, Daniel Libeskind, and others are inspiration for a design-methodology which focuses on the development of an architectural language. The actual project will be the interpretation of the short-story Heat by Joyce Carol Oates. Its analysis serves as basis for the design of an architectural statement.Emphasis

Serial killers are present in most Media today: TV-shows, books, magazines, news shows and music. Research about them has been made in many fields, such as criminology, psychology and psychiatry. There is also research about the serial killer as a cultural being. In my paper I have looked into the serial killer in fiction. I have chosen to compare two novels that deal with the serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. The novels are Lotta Lotass’ Min röst skall nu komma från en annan plats i rummet and Joyce Carols Oates’ Zombie. French literary translators have traditionally translated in an ethnocentric fashion in such a way that the translated work did not seem translated. They tried to write their translations in the same way the author would have, had he been French. Readers of French translations seemed quite satisfied with that approach. Yet there are translators who do not feel comfortable with this ethnocentric approach. They have done a great deal of reflection on their work, and are introducing new ways of translating literature. I denna uppsats kommer jag analysera flickskildringen i två ungdomsromaner, Freaky green eyes och Two or three things I forgot to tell you av Joyce Carol Oates. This thesis examines the pervasive violence and emotional injuries inflicted upon the female characters in Joyce Carol Oates’s short fiction, where the women suffer tremendous loss. While critics have discussed what losses occur because of the various depraved and damaging acts, there is little literature exploring the consequences of these losses. I offer a more nuanced approach to interrogate Oates’s work, avoiding a simplistic tainting of Oates’s women as mere victims, and instead focusing on how that loss is apprehended: that is, analysing what is left after loss, and how this loss shapes

Partial Minds argues that contemporary American novels strategically break conventionally-defined norms for the representation of fictional minds to highlight unusual character thoughts. Certain states of mind—including traumatic experiences, conflicting feelings, some memories, and the simultaneous possession of multiple identities—are more difficult to represent than others, and so some authors or narrators reject conventional cognitive representations, such as naming feelings, if they seem poor tools for effectively communicating that character’s exceptional quality to the reader.
