Navalta, James, and Zachary Callahan. "Evaluation of Metabolic Stress between Jumping at Different Cadences on the Digi-Jump Machine." International Journal of Exercise Science 3, no. 4 (2010): 233–38. http://dx.doi.org/10.70252/vjmr6012.

Full text
Abstract:
The American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM) recommends that healthy adults achieve a minimum of thirty minutes of moderate intensity aerobic exercise five days per week. While cycling, walking, and jogging are commonly observed methods of achieving these recommendations, another option may be repetitive jumping. The purpose of this study was to examine the metabolic responses between repetitive jumping at a cadence of 120 jumps per minute (JPMs) vs. 100 JPMs when utilizing the Digi-Jump machine. Twenty-eight subjects completed two jumping trials, one at 120 JPMs and one at 100 JPMs. Subjects jumped until volitional exhaustion, or for a maximum of fifteen minutes. Oxygen uptake (VO2), heart rate (HR), respiratory exchange ratio (RER), and rating of perceived exertion (RPE) were assessed each minute of each exercise trial. RPE was differentiated, in that subjects reported perceived exertion of their total body, their upper-leg, and their lower leg. Results of this study indicated that there was no significant difference between the two trials for VO2, HR, or total body RPE. Differences were reported between trials for peak and average RER, with the 120 JPM trial eliciting a lower RER for both (peak: 1.08 + .087 vs. 1.17 + .1 p=.000; average: .99 + .076 vs. 1.04 + .098 p=.002), peak upper leg RPE (120: 15.29 + 3.89 vs. 100: 16.75 + 2.52 p=.022), and average lower leg RPE (120: 15.04 + 2.55 vs. 100: 13.94 + 2.02 p=.019). Also, there was a significant difference in exercise duration between the trials, with subjects able to exercise longer during the 120 JPM trial (12.4 + 3.42 mins vs. 9.68 + 4.31 mins p=.000). These data indicate that while the physiological stress may not be different between the two trials as indicated by VO2 and HR, the 120 JPM trial appears less strenuous as evidenced by RER values and by subjects’ ability to exercise longer at that cadence.

Full text
Abstract:
Background and Objectives: Dental anxiety is a common barrier to pediatric oral care. Non-pharmacological relaxation techniques like Jacobson’s Progressive Muscle Relaxation (JPMR) and Breathing Control (BC) may help reduce psychological and physiological stress. This study assessed the utility of JPMR and BC in reducing dental anxiety and physiological arousal in children and adolescents. Materials and Methods: In this observational study, 189 participants aged 8–17 undergoing non-invasive dental procedures were assigned to JPMR (n = 63), BC (n = 63), or control (n = 63) groups. Dental anxiety was measured with the Romanian-validated IDAF-4C+, and physiological stress was measured via blood pressure and heart rate. Pre and post-intervention data were analyzed using paired t-tests, ANOVA, and cluster analysis. Results: JPMR led to the highest reductions in IDAF-4C+ scores (Δ = −1.23, p < 0.001, d = 1.12) and systolic blood pressure (Δ = −9.4 mmHg, p < 0.01). BC showed moderate anxiety reduction (Δ = −0.64, p < 0.05, d = 0.61) with minor physiological changes. The control group showed no significant change. Cluster analysis revealed three response patterns: (1) high anxiety–strong responders (n = 58), mainly benefiting from JPMR; (2) moderate anxiety–partial responders (n = 74); and (3) low anxiety–non-responders (n = 57). Younger age and female gender were linked to better JPMR response. Conclusions: JPMR is an effective and practical method for reducing dental anxiety and physiological stress in pediatric dental care.

Abstract:
Abstract Role of mangrove forests has been elucidated from different aspects including culture, economic and environments, and potential microbes from mangrove area has been interested from different viewpoints. This study is to determine the diversity of fungi from mangrove forest and their ability to degrade dye. Fungi were isolated from mangrove water of Belawan, North Sumatera, and screened for their decolorization activity in Mineral Salt Medium Agar (MSMA) containing liquid dye waste at a concentration of 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100%. Five isolates, JPM 1, JPM 10, JPM 12, JPM 14 and JPM 15, of 23 purified isolates exhibited better growth response until the highest concentration of waste (100%). All isolates showed better decolorization activity under liquid culture condition. JPM 14 85.66% exhibited the highest decolorization activity after 30 days. Molecular identification of 5 potential isolates indicted that all belong to different species, namely Aspergillus niger (JPM 1), Aspergillus citrinoterreus (JPM 10), Fusarium oxysporum (JPM 12), Montagnula chromolaenicola (JPM 14) and Trichoderma lentiforme (JPM 15).

There is a growing discussion of the idea of jus post bellum (jpb) and what it means as an addition to just war thinking. This essay connects jpb to the thought of Augustine and Aquinas, so that jpb appears as integral in that tradition. To make this case, I argue that achieving jpb is key to building a just peace, of which the fundamental characteristic must be human security, and thus defines two approaches to the study of human security that emerges from the theological development of jpb ethics: Michael Schuck’s Augustinian and Kenneth Himes’s Thomistic jpb conceptions. I argue that they both emphasize the importance of human security, as shown by their arguments for building humanitarian norms post bellum, but have different aims and jpb moral implications.

Abstract:
The quantification of coastal hazards caused by tropical cyclones (TCs) faces challenges due to insufficient historical observations, particularly for intense hurricanes, and other data limitations. In the wake of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, a hybrid probabilistic/process-based modeling approach known as the Joint Probability Method (JPM) went through in-depth scruntinity and significant improvements, spurred by the Interagency Performance Evaluation Taskforce (IPET 2009). As a result of this forensic study, IPET developed the JPM with Optimal Sampling (JPM-OS) technique for the analysis of extreme coastal flooding resulting from hurricanes. This collaborative effort involved several U.S. federal agencies, the private sector, and academic researchers. The IPET’s JPM-OS became a standard for U.S. federal agencies, including the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) and the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), for assessing coastal storm risks in areas susceptible to hurricanes. However, this led to the development of two distinct JPM-OS variants, each with different advantantages and limitations. Since then, JPM has informed numerous storm surge and hurricane hazard studies led by the federal government, academia, and private sector. During the last decade, considerable effort was made to address limitations of existing JPM-OS approaches. Advancements in multi-variate statistics and machine learning (ML) led to the development of a more robust version of the JPM called JPM Aided by Metamodel Prediction (JPM-AMP).

Abstract:
In the development of a country or a region, the quality of citizen’s health is very important. So that’s why, in order to improve the quality of citizen’s health, there needs a social policy action by the government, especially with the right decision making in its formulation process. In the local context, the Banyuwangi Public Health Services Insurance (JPKMB) Program is the answer to these problems, where the program offers free primary health service without charge for whole community levels. The main finding in this research is that in the decision making of the JPKMB Program, the decision-maker claims that they have done in-depth consideration and analysis using the rational approach model. But the facts on the research suggests that decision-makers tend to use an incremental approach model, where they make decisions quickly because it is affected by various limitations. This is due to health issues being politicized in terms of political campaigning purposes by one of the candidates who was competing in the local general elections of Banyuwangi Regency 2005. Consequently, after the candidate has been elected, the candidates should run the free health service program immediately, no matter what way. Its can be said that the decision making of the JPKMB Program is not going through a mature process.

Abstract:
Jinnah Post graduate medical Centre (JPMC) is on the biggest public hospitals of Pakistan, serves 1.2 million patients annually, 4,38,000 patients examined in the emergency department alone. Most of health services & treatments are low cost at JPMC and affordable for everyone. However, over the past few years the number of patients in emergency as well as Outpatient department has substantially increased causing stress on physical, human and financial resources. The number of patients has increased by two folds in the last decade. These number are continuously increasing and over burden to available infrastructure is a hindrance in the way of quality medical care. A study conducted in the department of chest medicine of JPMC revealed that among 120 tuberculosis patients, almost 50% (60) died during hospitalization. Delayed treatment, absence of smear records were among the major prognostic factors. Limited resources coupled with poor management results in compromised health care.

Abstract:
Abstract The joint probability method (JPM) is the traditional way to determine the base flood elevation due to storm surge, and it usually requires simulation of storm surge response from tens of thousands of synthetic storms. The simulated storm surge is combined with probabilistic storm rates to create flood maps with various return periods. However, the map production requires enormous computational cost if state-of-the-art hydrodynamic models with high-resolution numerical grids are used; hence, optimal sampling (JPM-OS) with a small number of (~ 100–200) optimal (representative) storms is preferred. This paper presents a significantly improved JPM-OS, where a small number of optimal storms are objectively selected, and simulated storm surge responses of tens of thousands of storms are accurately interpolated from those for the optimal storms using a highly efficient kriging surrogate model. This study focuses on Southwest Florida and considers ~ 150 optimal storms that are selected based on simulations using either the low fidelity (with low resolution and simple physics) SLOSH model or the high fidelity (with high resolution and comprehensive physics) CH3D model. Surge responses to the optimal storms are simulated using both SLOSH and CH3D, and the flood elevations are calculated using JPM-OS with highly efficient kriging interpolations. For verification, the probabilistic inundation maps are compared to those obtained by the traditional JPM and variations of JPM-OS that employ different interpolation schemes, and computed probabilistic water levels are compared to those calculated by historical storm methods. The inundation maps obtained with the JPM-OS differ less than 10% from those obtained with JPM for 20,625 storms, with only 4% of the computational time.

Abstract:
This research aims to investigate the effect of green supply chain management (GSCM) on the competitive advantage (CA) of Jordanian pharmaceutical manufacturing (JPM) organizations. Data were collected by questionnaires from managers who were working in JPM organizations, then checked and coded against SPSS. After confirming the tool validity, reliability, and relationship between variables, the hypotheses were tested by multiple regressions. The results show that JPM organizations implement green purchasing and green selling, while weakly implementing green operations. At the same time, for CA dimensions, the results show that JPM organizations are more concerned with quality, speed (time), and reliability than cost reduction and innovation. Moreover, the results show that the relationship between GSCM and CA is very strong. The results also show that green supply chain components affect the CA of JPM organizations, where green operations have the highest effect on total CA, followed by green purchasing and finally, green selling. Additionally, the green supply chain affects CA dimensions of JPM organizations, where GSCM has the highest effect on quality, followed by innovation, then time, while GSCM does not have any significant effect on reliability and cost.

Abstract:
To construct adult Japanese phantoms applicable to individual exposure dose assessments, we created adult Japanese polygon mesh-type male (JPM) and female (JPF) phantoms through modification of the adult Japanese voxel phantoms, JM-103 (male) and JF-103 (female). The body sizes and masses of organs, tissues, and organ contents in JPM and JPF were adjusted to the Japanese averages, except for those unimportant for radiation protection or risks. The JPM and JPF data were converted to tetrahedral mesh-type data and incorporated into the Particle and Heavy Ion Transport code System (PHITS) for dose calculations. The dosimetric characteristics of the JPM and JPF phantoms were validated by calculating their effective doses in the anterior–posterior geometry for the external irradiation of photons with energies of 0.01–20 MeV and compared with those of JM-103 and JF-103 or the reference values given in ICRP Publication 116. The results confirmed no problems applying JPM and JPF to dose assessments in adult Japanese subjects. Furthermore, it was found that JPM and JPF can also accurately calculate the absorbed doses for entire organs and high radiosensitive cell regions with thin, small, and complicated structures.

Abstract:
Abstract: Background: The term AIDS refers only to the last stage of the HIV infection. AIDS can be called as our modern pandemic affecting both industrialized and developing countries. Objectives: To assess the anxiety and depression among people living with HIV as measured by HADS (Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale), to determine the effectiveness of JPMR in terms of reduction in the mean posttest anxiety and depression scores, to find the association of anxiety and depression among people living with HIV with selected demographic and disease specific variables. Materials and Methods: one group pre test and post test design was used. 30 people living with HIV who were admitted at ART center, District Hospital, Udupi were selected and different scales on anxiety and depression scale for people living with HIV were administered. Purposive sampling technique was used for the study. Results: Out of 30 subjects, 13.30% (4) experienced abnormal anxiety and 16.7% (5) abnormal depression. There was significance difference between mean difference of pretest and post test scores of anxiety (t=8.471, df=29, p=0.001) and depression (t=6.811, df=29, p=0.001). Anxiety is independent of the selected variables (Demographic and disease specific). Depression is dependent on previous history of psychiatric illness (÷2=6.584, df =2, p=0.037). Conclusion: JPMR is a simple non-invasive, cost effective method. The result showed that JPMR training had a positive effect in reducing the anxiety and depression and JPMR can be used as an effective alternative therapy.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract Background: Older adults encounter serious psychological challenges in addition to physical problems. Reducing stress and anxiety, along with promoting happiness, is critical to maintaining the mental health of the elderly. Jacobson’s Progressive Muscle Relaxation (JPMR) will lead to peace of mind by relieving physical stress. The present study aimed to investigate the effect of JPMR on the anxiety and happiness of older adults. Materials and Methods: A single-group pretest-posttest design as a type of quasi-experimental study was conducted on 34 older adults living in a nursing home in Rasht, the north of Iran, in 2021. The intervention was performed one session per week, for 8 weeks. The research instruments included the Geriatric Anxiety Inventory (GAI) and the Oxford Happiness Inventory (OHI). Descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon test were used for data analysis. Results: After the intervention, the Mean (Standard Deviation [SD](of anxiety was 4.91 (1.96), and the Mean (SD) (of happiness was 37.18 (7.92). The mean score of anxiety among older adults after the intervention was significantly lower compared to the before intervention (Z = −4.73, p < 0.001). In addition, the mean score of happiness of the samples after the intervention was significantly higher compared to the before intervention (Z = −5.09, p < 0.001). Conclusions: JPMR has a positive effect on reducing anxiety and promoting happiness in the elderly. Developing training programs and allocating time to non-pharmacological treatments such as JPMR for the elderly living in nursing homes will help make them happier and healthier.

Abstract:
There is considerable international interest in Japanese production management (JPM), known in the West as “lean production.” Advocates of this new form of management argue that it improves both economic productivity and health. In Japan, however, the relationship between JPM and sudden death due to cardiovascular and cerebrovascular disease has been an important topic of debate since the 1970s. Japanese have named these types of deaths karoshi, which means “death from overwork.” In North America and Western Europe a number of studies have demonstrated a significant relationship between high job strain (high production demands and low levels of control and social support) and cardiovascular disease. This article reviews the elements of JPM and examines their potential health consequences. The authors present an overview of karoshi, discuss its possible connections to specific ideological and organizational characteristics of JPM, and suggest the job strain mechanism as a possible pathway between karoshi and JPM. They conclude by discussing the need for comparative research that examines the health effects of work organization and management methods cross-culturally.

Full text
Abstract:
Joint probabilistic models (JPMs) for the environmental parameters such as wave, wind, and current are nowadays of paramount importance in order to perform the reliability analysis of marine structures. These JPMs are also essential for long-term statistics-based design of offshore structures and to perform dynamic response analysis of floating units that are strongly dependent on the directionality of the environmental actions such as turret-moored floating, production, storage, and offloading vessels (FPSOs). Recently, some JPMs have been proposed in literature to represent the joint statistics of a reduced number of environmental parameters. However, it is a difficult task to obtain practical and reliable models to express the complete statistical dependence among the environmental parameters intensities and their correspondent directions. This paper presents a methodology, based on the Nataf transformation, to create a JPM of wave, wind, and current environmental parameters taking into account, also, the statistical correlation between intensities and directions. The proposed model considers ten short-term environmental variables: the significant wave height, peak period, and direction of the sea waves, the significant wave height, peak period, and direction of the swell waves, the amplitude and direction of the 1 h wind velocity, and, finally, the amplitude and direction of the surface current velocity. The statistical dependence between them is modeled using concepts of linear-linear, linear-circular, and circular-circular variables correlation. Some results of the proposed JPM methodology are presented based on simultaneous environmental data gathered in an offshore Brazil location.
