The Maysles brothers’ 1975 documentary, Grey Gardens, portrays the lives of Edith Bouvier Beale and her daughter, Edith, known as Little Edie, the aunt and first cousin, respectively, of Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy Onassis. The mother and daughter live together in their East Hampton house that is literally falling apart. As their identical names imply, the Beales share a symbiotic relationship which is reflected in every aspect of their life. I argue that Grey Gardens calls for Julia Kristeva’s insistence on abjection as a crucial struggle with “spatial ambivalence (inside/outside uncertainty)”

Abstract Background: Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) are ectopic immune cell aggregates in tumors that correlate with enhanced immunity and prognosis. Although TLS form via lymphotoxin (LT)-LTβR signaling, the TLS inducing molecules and cells remain unclear. Approach: To identify TLS inducing signals, we use pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a cold tumor where increased TLS density correlates with enhanced survival. To discover novel TLS inducers, we analyze bulk transcriptomes from human PDAC and 12 cold and hot cancers. We dissect the mechanisms in a Kras/p53-driven orthotopic PDAC

Julia Kristeva‟s Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection, as well as her notion of revolt, constitute the central theoretical framework for my analysis. However, I also draw upon the concepts of monstrosity, grotesqueness and the uncanny in order to explicate the affect of abject fiction on the reader. Reproducibility was not a product of the twentieth century, but of a long process that led to the paradigm shift at the beginning of this century.
