As their identical names imply, the Beales share a symbiotic relationship which is reflected in every aspect of their life. Abstract Background: Tertiary lymphoid structures (TLS) are ectopic immune cell aggregates in tumors that correlate with enhanced immunity and prognosis. Although TLS form via lymphotoxin (LT)-LTβR signaling, the TLS inducing molecules and cells remain unclear. Approach: To identify TLS inducing signals, we use pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), a cold tumor where increased TLS density correlates with enhanced survival. To discover novel TLS inducers, we analyze bulk transcriptomes from human PDAC and 12 cold and hot cancers. We dissect the mechanisms in a Kras/p53-driven orthotopic PDAC

Taste and Lively Matter in the Anthropocene This paper is concerned with the role of taste in relation to food produced in backyard or community gardens. Taste, as outlined by Bourdieu, is constructed by many factors driven primarily by one’s economic position as well as certain cultural influences. Such arguments tend to work against a naïve reading of the “natural” attributes of food and the biological impulses and responses humans have to taste. Ian McEwan is the writer of the most controversial texts of the contemporary British fiction. One of the outstanding examples of his literature of shock, McEwan’s The Cement Garden, is a challenging narrative in the sense that it depicts the disturbing experiences of a family, ranging from incest to death. The fact that these experiences are narrated through an adolescent boy’s point of view makes these even more controversial in the sense that the depiction of events through this narrator’s view is focalized. Through this focalization, the horrifying events experienced by children are narrate

Isaiah Zagar and his wife Julia had moved to this street following Zagar’s depression in 1969, when the street was full of wrecked houses. Mosaic art was a form of rehabilitation for Zagar during his hard days. He started to cover the walls of his house and even some areas on the street with mosaic, and the facades of many buildings on the street became living canvases for Zagar’s art. Stem rust, caused by Puccinia graminis, and crown rust, caused by P. coronata, are common rust diseases on cool-season grasses (Karakkat et al. 2018), for which long-distance spore dispersal was recorded in northern US (Harder and Haber 1992). During the summers of 2019 and 2020, severe infection of stem rust and crown rust was observed on > 60% of tall fescue (Festuca arundinacea) germplasm plants in a breeding nursery located at the University of Georgia, Griffin GA. Halfway through the 2006 memoir comic Fun Home, the reader encounters a photograph that the book’s author, Alison Bechdel, found in a box of family snapshots shortly after her father’s death. The picture—“literally the core of the book, the centrefold” (Bechdel qtd. in Chute “Interview” 1006)—of Alison’s teenaged babysitter, Roy, erotically reclining on a bed in only his underwear, is the most tangible and direct evidence of her father’s sexual affairs with teenage boys, more confronting than his own earlier confession. Through this image, and a rich archive of familial texts, Bechdel chronicl
