The aim of this work is to offer a quantitative assessment as to what extent the texture and the microstructure influence the cold headability of steel wires.<br>For this, a set of cold drawn low carbon steel wires/AISI 1030 were prepared. The samples were drawn, without heat treatment, in between passes of up to 78% reduction in area (RA) in 5 passes. In this work, we present theoretical analysis of charge transport at the molecular scale. We use a state-of-the-art theoretical tool to investigate a number of key issues of molecular electronics, paying particular attention to quantitative comparison with experimental data which have been confirmed by different labs. The way I approached this analysis was to start with two general statements, one on the form and the other on the harmony. This was so the reader could get a sense of the direction of the piece. Then I did a fairly detailed analysis of the introduction since most of the ideas originate from there. The rest of the piece is discussed in less detail, but occasionally there were places that needed a little more detailed explanation. In the postscript I describe some of my influences.

Abstract:
Four low carbon steels were drawn from rod to wire on a commercial multi-die wire drawing machine. Samples were obtained from between dies. Internal damage, as a function of cold work, was determined using precision density measurements. Nitrogen was observed to have the greatest effect on the ductility of low carbon steel. Interstitial nitrogen causes internal damage, which results in wire breaks. The mobility of nitrogen increases with temperature, which could account for the increased probability of wire breaks at high drawing speeds.
