Full textThis thesis deals with the school issue in Cameroon during the German and French colonial periods, as well as their impact on the current situation. This is a thorough analysis of the place and forms of education in Cameroon under the German and French colonial yokes. It takes into account the different political objectives and conceptions of man, specific to each of the two colonial powers. It specifically underlines feminine education in each part of this work. The comparative analysis of the German and French colonial educational systems highlights the differences and similarities between the both educational policies and their concrete applications. Our work is not restricted to this comparative approach but goes beyond this. It shows that the educational system in Cameroon is now essentially marked by the French colonial past, whereas the remains of German colonization academically are almost absent
Grondeux, Jérôme. "Écrire et faire l'histoire : la pensée catholique sociale de Georges Goyau jusqu'en 1914." Paris 4, 1994. http://www.theses.fr/1993PA040272.
Full textBorn 1869, G. Goyau, as a thinker and and historian, was made both by public education and French catholic church. The spirituality of this over-gilfted child, having his father away, developped as precociously as his intellectual faculties. In the 'École normale supérieure', he met the Brunhes brothers, who made him discover, at the beginning of the 'ralliement', republican catholicism. During the easter holidays, in 1892, while staying in Roma, he was presented to leo XIIIi and cardinal rampolla. A few months later, he met Henri Lorin and converted to social catholicism. In the 'École française de Rome', he wrote anonymously the Roman letters in the journal des débats, and used a pseudonym for writing Le Pape, les catholiques et la question sociale (a rerum novarum's commentary). In both occurences, Goyau meant to uphod the ralliement, and so to use ralliement to reach catholic social purposes. Another book of him, le Vatican, was written to establish not only religous, but also social necessity of pontiftical power. As a contributor of the Revue des deux Mondes of F. Brunetiere, he's involved in the quarrels of the Dreyfus affair and separation, and builds up a polemic and singular historical work

Full textThe Star of India was an important English daily of late colonial India. Its rather limited readership belonged to the Anglo-Muslim élite of the Eastern Indian region. Between 1937 – the year of the last Westminster-style constitution for colonial India – and the August Partition of 1947, this quality paper supported the radical concept of religious and territorial separatism (the Pakistan Demand). However, many of its Western Bengal journalists defended the idea of an India-Pakistan confederation. Therefore, Indo-Muslim nationalism would appear to be rather fragile when independence was declared

Full textAesthetic reflection occupies a major part of Döblin's work until the First World War. His first writings (1896-1903) already reveal his philosophic concepts of the creative arts. These are further developed in 1905 in the play lydia und maxchen, and more clearly outlined in the articles published between 1909 and 1913 in Das Theater and Der Sturm. However, it is in a little known work, Die Gespräche mit Kalypso über die Musik, first published in its entirety in 1980, that his thoughts are most completely defined. Döblin uses music as an aesthetic model, but already envisages its projection in literature. The aesthetic concepts of Döblin before 1914, through examination of his writings and following their sequence, show a progression. Aesthetic reflection becomes more pragmatic, aesthetic materialism formed through consideration of music cannot be applied to the novel, but his thoughts reveal a permanency of ideas, particularly in case of links between art and reality, and a permanency of viewpoints, specially the link between the aesthetic, the philosophical and medicine. Also the rejection of intellectualism, psychology and anthropocentrism, the defence of creative autonomy and aesthetic pluralism, the attitudes towards art as a revelation and the global view of art as part of life remain constant. Following a confrontation with italian futurists in 1913 Döblin published his Berliner Programm. This he called a new epic art form designed to support the philosophical naturalism promoted throughout his earlier writings. The aesthetic stance of the writer is thus essentially established. Döblin distances himself from Der Sturm and achieves his first major novel, Die drei Sprunge des Wang-lun
Rousseau, Pascal. ""Réalité, peinture pure" : l'oeuvre de Robert Delaunay jusqu'en 1914." Paris 4, 1998. http://www.theses.fr/1997PA040286.
Full textIf the early work of Robert Delaunay (1885-1941) reveals a careful application of the lessons of light of the impressionists, this first phase is rapidly transgressed after he reads the scientific essays on color by Eugene Chevreul and Ogden Rood. These books enrich his reflexion on simultaneous contrast when offering him a structural law of the perception of colors. After having experimented with the divisionist touch, Delaunay assimilates with a rare intuition the spatial lessons of Cézanne. Receptif to the exhortations of the futurists and fascinated by the Douanier Rousseau’s popular figure, Delaunay associates primitivism and modernity in a search for the origin which nourishes his "orphic" conception of light. To the primitive code of the cubists of the bateau-lavoir, he opposes the impressionist argument of the innocent eye defended by Laforgue according to which the phenomenal world can be reduced to a series of colored vibrations. The window becomes the ideal motif for an application of the topologic conception of colors as it appears in Chevreuls’ theory. Delaunay then masters the prismatic dispersal using a gyratory form which orientates the gaze without the risk of inhibitory tensions. The painting, which has become with "formes circulaires" a pure transfer of luminous energy and allows a physiological reflexion on the autonomy of painting and its ability to transcribe, by the sole dynamogenic encounter of colors, the activity of the eye tempting to apprehend the fleeting essence of the world. This reflexion concludes with "disque simultané" (1913), conceived as a standardized surface on which the eye can measure its limits and the spread of its mobility
