Abstract:
In this article we explore the impact of mentoring on individuals who completed a doctoral program in educational leadership. Participants described the impact and ripple effects of mentoring on degree completion and their work as K-20 leaders to inform policy, shape practice and transform education; they also provided recommendations for infusing mentoring into the doctoral program. Data collected through focus groups and Ripple Effects Mapping (REM) was examined through Social Capital Theory and indicates mentoring for professionals seeking the Ed.D. should be multifaceted, centered on the emancipatory belief in the capacity of each individual, and woven into each program element. This study contributes to mentoring literature and extends knowledge about the unique needs of P-20 educational leaders pursuing the Ed.D. We argue for provision of a multifaceted mentoring program, which draws upon the expertise of members within the program’s network (faculty, program graduates and cohort members). Purposeful, proactive and responsive mentorship will meet the individual needs of each student, including candidates from diverse backgrounds and other marginalized populations.

Abstract:
Cellulose is the main raw material for the production of paper. Companies that produce it present in their production line the cutting of the cellulose sheet. This failure is sporadic and has a high economic impact since it paralyzes the production line for several hours, incurring unproductive hours and a large deployment of human and financial resources. In this research, the use of Data Mining is proposed to define a machine learning algorithm that allows predicting the cutting of the cellulose sheet in a production line of a cellulose plant in Chile. The results show that by applying this technique it is possible to predict the cutting of the cellulose sheet well in advance to take corrective actions to avoid cutting and thus minimize the economic impact associated with the failure. Abstract:
The enthusiasm in the Tahfidz House (TH) education program especially for children shows an increasing trend in Padang, a modeling city in developing Islāmic character for children. The purpose of this study was to investigate the Tahfidz House program trends development in early childhood in Padang. This study uses qualitative methods with data collection tools, namely inter- views, direct observation, and document analysis. The results showed that: First, the Tahfidz House program attracted public interest because it offered dimensions of character formation such as in- creasing Intelligence Quotient, Emotional Quotient, and Spiritual Quotient. Second, there is a theo- logical reason in the landscape of local people to think that the Qur'an offers a blessing concept in our lives. Third, Tahfidz House existences as non-formal education has two dominant affiliations, namely pure education and based on market interests or capitalization. Abstract:
In 2013 the Editor of Journal of Vibration and Control and SAGE became aware of a peer review ring involving assumed and fabricated identities that appeared to centre around Peter Chen at National Pingtung University of Education, Taiwan (NPUE). SAGE and the Editor then began a complex investigation into the case during the rest of 2013 and 2014. Following an unsatisfactory response from Peter Chen, NPUE was notified. NPUE were serious in addressing the Journal and SAGE’s concerns. NPUE confirmed that the institution was investigating Peter Chen. SAGE subsequently uncovered a citation ring involving the above mentioned author and others. We regret that individual authors have compromised the academic record by perverting the peer review process and apologise to readers. On uncovering problems with peer review and citation SAGE immediately put steps in place to avoid similar vulnerability of the Journal to exploitation in the future. More information may be found at www.sagepub.co.uk/JVC_Statement_2014 . The Journal and SAGE understand from NPUE that Peter Chen has resigned his post at NPUE. The following articles are retracted because after thorough investigation evidence points towards them having at least one author or being reviewed by at least one reviewer who has been implicated in the peer review ring and/or citation ring. All authors have had an opportunity to respond to the allegations and proposed actions.
Abstract:
Language skills are essential for early childhood, being able to speak clearly and process speech sounds, understand others, express ideas, and interact with others are the building blocks for a child's development. Therefore, this study will examine the effect of the Inside Outside Circle (IOC) instructional strategies with media images on children's language skills. This research is a quasi-experimental design with a posttest only and using a control group. The sample in this study were children in two kindergartens in the village of Banjar Tegal. Data analysis in this study was carried out by quantitative descriptive methods using t-test analysis techniques. The results of this study in kindergarten students in Banjar Tegal Village show that there is an influence of the IOC learning model with picture media on children's language skills (tcount = 6.28> ttable = 2.00). This shows that language skills achieved by groups of children participating in learning with the IOC model with drawing media are better than groups of children who attend learning without the IOC model. The implication is that further research is expected to develop other aspects of child devel- opment through the IOC model. Abstract:
e4139111This article features schools and school districts with successful induction programs, all easily replicable. Increasingly, research confirms that teacher and teaching quality are the most powerful predictors of student success. In short, principals ensure higher student achievement by assuring better teaching. To do this, effective administrators have a new teacher induction program available for all newly hired teachers, which then seamlessly becomes part of the lifelong, sustained professional development program for the district or school. What keeps a good teacher are structured, sustained, intensive professional development programs that allow new teachers to observe others, to be observed by others, and to be part of networks or study groups where all teachers share together, grow together, and learn to respect each other’s work. Tradução do original WONG, Harry K. “Induction Programs That Keep New Teachers Teaching and Improving”. Abstract:
This chapter reviews literature on the use of e-learning to complement and extend preservice and inservice teacher education. It also provides an in depth example of the design and implementation of blended learning for supporting alternative teacher certification. In light of the example, research findings are summarized. The second part of the chapter provides a discussion on the following strategies that led to the successful use of blended learning in alternative teacher certification and explains how applying them can contribute to effective uses of blended learning in other settings: a) leveraging a network of partners, b) designing blended learning to address needs of multiple learners and organizational entities, c) balancing standardization and customization, and d) conducting evaluation and engaging in continuous improvement.

Abstract:
Education informatization has become a significant symbol of educational modernization. Over the past 20 years, China has made remarkable achievements in the development of information technology infrastructure, resources, and personnel training. Despite the initial success on the education informatization management, China is still facing many challenges in primary and secondary schools’ education informatization: ineffective digital educational resource sharing mechanism (lack of public information technology service platform), insufficient quality education resources (i.e., campus network infrastructure and teachers’ information technology capabilities), poorly integrated education informationalized system management (i.e., slow deployment and limited functionality), insufficient information capabilities training for the teacher, imbalanced development in regional education informatization (i.e., funding shortage in rural areas), and lack of sustainable development policies. Thus, how to resolve these challenges and to prepare primary and secondary schools for the 21st century classroom has become an urgent issue in reaching China’s ambitious goal of 100% network connection. By examining the current status of education informationalized development in three different economic areas in China, this chapter collects, complies, compares, and evaluates the application and development of regional education informatization including information technology hardware, informational network, information capabilities, and education informatization development funds in primary and secondary schools. Recommendations are made to improve the process of education informatization development and application; to reduce the regional gaps in education informatization; to accelerate the development of network resources, network infrastructure, and informationalized platform; to improve information technology capability training; and to establish better policies for sustainable development of education informatization in China.

Abstract:
The collaborative contagion model is a byproduct of a three-year endeavor to identify and address curricular deficiencies in business ethics and entrepreneurship (BE&E) courses. Designed to increase curriculum adoption using professional educators’ established networks, the model combines a series of four-day disruptive innovation workshops with an online forum to promote collaboration in the design of BE&E materials, and to provide ongoing support for educators with unique contextual constraints. Our primary goal in developing the collaborative contagion model was to create a framework through which teachers could prototype, refine, and distribute BE&E course materials at no monetary cost. Given the variety of participants invited to the disruptive innovation workshops, we expected to produce curricular materials that incorporated a wide array of perspectives and experiences relating to BE&E instruction. After our first year of workshops, 20 K-12 and 20 higher education participants helped formulate 10 modules and 60 grade-specific K-12 lesson plans. Through the process, we have established pilot programs at 13 separate institutions, and built partnerships with seven organizations. In addition to providing educators with professional development opportunities and an enhanced academic network, we conclude that the collaborative contagion model promotes improved curriculum quality, and increases the likelihood of curriculum implementation.
