Recently, the [Formula: see text]-normal elements over finite fields are defined and characterized by Huczynska et al. In this paper, we give a new characterization of [Formula: see text]-normal elements and define [Formula: see text]-normal polynomials over finite fields. In what follows, we show that the problem of existence of a primitive 1-normal element in [Formula: see text] over [Formula: see text], for all [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text], which has been stated by Huczynska et al., is not satisfied. Furthermore, we extend a recursive method given by Kyuregyan for constructing an infinite family of [Formula: see text]-polynomials, to constructing an infinite sequence of [Formula: see text]-normal polynomials over [Formula: see text].

Abstract:
We study the relationship between geometric properties of toric varieties and combinatorial properties of the corresponding lattice polytopes. In particular, we give a bound for a very ample lattice polytope to be k-normal. Equivalently, we give a new combinatorial bound for the Castelnuovo-Mumford regularity of normal projective toric varieties. We also give a new combinatorial proof for a special case of Reider's Theorem for smooth toric surfaces.

Abstract:
Die vorliegende Diplomarbeit beschäftigt sich mit zwei Aspekten der statistischen Eigenschaften von Clusterverfahren. Zum einen geht die Arbeit auf die Frage der Existenz von unterschiedlichen Clusteranalysemethoden zur Strukturfindung und deren unterschiedlichen Vorgehensweisen ein. Die Methode des Abstandes zwischen Mannigfaltigkeiten und die K-means Methode liefern ausgehend von gleichen Daten unterschiedliche Endclusterungen. Der zweite Teil dieser Arbeit beschäftigt sich näher mit den asymptotischen Eigenschaften des K-means Verfahrens. Hierbei ist die Menge der optimalen Clusterzentren konsistent. Bei Vergrößerung des Stichprobenumfangs gegen Unendlich konvergiert diese in Wahrscheinlichkeit gegen die Menge der Clusterzentren, die das Varianzkriterium minimiert. Ebenfalls konvergiert die Menge der optimalen Clusterzentren für n gegen Unendlich gegen eine Normalverteilung. Es hat sich dabei ergeben, dass die einzelnen Clusterzentren voneinander abhängen.
The following thesis describes two different views onto the statistical characterics of clustering procedures. At first it adresses the questions whether different clustering methods exist to ascertain the structure of clusters and in what ays the strategies of these methods differ from each other. The method of distance between the manifolds as well as the k-means method provide different final clusters based on equal initial data. The second part of the thesis concentrates on asymptotic properties of the k-means procedure. Here the amount of optimal clustering centres is consistent. If the size of the sample range is enlarged towards infinity, it also converges in probability towards the amount of clustering centres which minimized the whithin cluster sum of squares. Likewise the amount of optimal clustering centres converges for infinity towards the normal distribution. The main result shows that the individual clustering centres are dependent on each other.

Abstract:
There are many situations in which researchers want to consider a set of response variables simultaneously rather than just one response variable. For instance, a possible example is when a researcher wishes to determine the effects of an exercise and diet program on both the cholesterol levels and the weights of obese subjects. Dietz (1989) proposed two multivariate generalizations of the Jonckheere test for ordered alternatives. In this study, we propose k-sample tests for nondecreasing ordered alternatives for bivariate normal data and compare their powers with Dietz's sum statistic. The proposed k-sample tests are based on transformations of bivariate data to univariate data. The transformations considered are the sum, maximum and minimum functions. The ideas for these transformations come from the Leconte, Moreau, and Lellouch (1994). After the underlying bivariate normal data are reduced to univariate data, the Jonckheere-Terpstra (JT) test (Terpstra, 1952 and Jonckheere, 1954) and the Modified Jonckheere-Terpstra (MJT) test (Tryon and Hettmansperger, 1973) are applied to the univariate data. A simulation study is conducted to compare the proposed tests with Dietz's test for k bivariate normal populations (k=3, 4, 5). A variety of sample sizes and various location shifts are considered in this study. Two different correlations are used for the bivariate normal distributions. The simulation results show that generally the Dietz test performs the best for the situations considered with the underlying bivariate normal distribution. The estimated powers of MJT sum and JT sum are often close with the MJT sum generally having a little higher power. The sum transformation was the best of the three transformations to use for bivariate normal data.

A presente dissertação analisou o curso de formação docente em nível médio, Curso Normal Médio, em seis escolas da Rede Estadual de Ensino do Estado de Pernambuco, jurisdicionadas à Gerência Regional de Educação – GRE, Litoral Sul. Justifica-se a investigação, considerando a experiência do autor tanto como professor do Curso Normal Médio, quanto como Analista Educacional na GRE Litoral Sul, desde 2008, sendo o último cargo até a data da realização da pesquisa. Esse estudo é importante para Gerência Regional de Educação Litoral Sul, pois vem revelar o andamento do curso Normal Médio, seus desafios e possibilidades. A pesquisa foi desenvolvida com base na metodologia qualitativa, o método estudo de caso, as entrevistas e a pesquisa documental em seis escolas. Foram realizadas entrevistas semiestruturadas com técnicos da Secretaria de Educação do Estado de Pernambuco, o gestor da GRE Litoral Sul, gestores e professores de prática pedagógica de cada unidade escolar, além da análise documental e revisão bibliográfica. A partir do suporte teórico respaldado em Luckesi (2000), Pimenta (1997, 2002, 2005, 2006), Freire (1996, 2003), Gatti (2000), Veiga (2006), Santiago (1998), Sacristán (2000), Silva (2000), Libâneo (2005), Luck (2000) e Guimarães (2004). Foi estruturado um plano de ação para o fortalecimento do Curso Normal Médio, a partir de lacunas reveladas no estudo proveniente da formação continuada para os professores formadores, acervo de livros nas bibliotecas específicos para a formação de professores; quantidades de escolas que ofertam esse curso no mesmo município, adequação do acompanhamento do curso por uma coordenação, recurso financeiro, divulgação e esclarecimentos a comunidade e coordenador de curso com um perfil adequado, com aplicabilidade na GRE Litoral Sul, quanto em toda rede estadual de ensino.
The present dissertation analyzed the teacher training course on high school level, in six schools of the Educational State Network of the State of Pernambuco, linked to the Regional Educational Management (GRE, in Portuguese) of the South Coast. The study is justified considering the author’s experience as a teacher on such course, as well as an Educational Analyst at the GRE South Coast, since 2008, holding such position until this research was conducted. This study is important Regional Management of the South Coast, as it reveals the processes of the teacher training course on high school level, its challenges and possibilities. The research was developed based on qualitative methodology, the study case method, interviews and documental research in six schools. Semi structured interviews were conducted with technicians of the Education Secretariat of the State of Pernambuco, the manager of the GRE South Coast, managers and pedagogical practice teachers of each school unit, besides documental analysis and bibliographical research. As theoretical support we utilized works by Luckesi (2000), Pimenta (1997, 2002, 2005, 2006), Freire (1996, 2003), Gatti (2000), Veiga (2006), Santiago (1998), Sacristán (2000), Silva (2000), Libâneo (2005), Luck (2000) and Guimarães (2004). An educational action plan was structured to strengthen the Teacher Training course on high school level, from the gaps revealed in the study related to the continuing training of the training teachers, books specific to teacher training on the libraries, amount of schools that offer such course on the same town, adequacy of the course follow-up by the oversight coordination, financial resources, disclosure and communication with the community and course coordinator with a suitable profile, applicable at the GRE South Coast, as well as to the entire educational state network.

Abstract:
Two detailed numerical examples are given in this chapter illustrating and comparing mainly the reversible jump Markov chain Monte Carlo (RJMCMC) and the maximum a posteriori/importance sampling (MAPIS) methods. The numerical examples are the well-known galaxy data set with sample size 82, and the Hidalgo stamp issues thickness data with sample size 485. A comparison is made of the estimates obtained by the RJMCMC and MAPIS methods for (i) the posterior k-distribution of the number of components, k, (ii) the predictive finite mixture distribution itself, and (iii) the posterior distributions of the component parameters and weights. The estimates obtained by MAPIS are shown to be more satisfactory and meaningful. Details are given of the practical implementation of MAPIS for five non-normal mixture models, namely: the extreme value, gamma, inverse Gaussian, lognormal, and Weibull. Mathematical details are also given of the acceptance-rejection importance sampling used in MAPIS.

Abstract:
An increased incidence of bleeding episodes due to hypopro-thrombinaemia has been associated with several cephalosporins especially those which contain an N-methyl-thio-tetrazole (NMTT) side chain. To study the etiology of cephalosporin-induced hypo-prothrombinaemia in the clinical situation we have investigated the ability of different cephalosporins to alter the metabolism of vitamin K and the relationship between hypoprothrombinaemia and vitamin K status as assessed from plasma levels of vitamin K. Cephalosporins containing an NMTT side chain (latamoxef, cefmenoxime, cefoperazone, cefotetan, cefamandole) or related structure (cefozolin) all caused the transient plasma appearance of vitamink1 2,3-epoxide in response to a 10 mg intravenous dose of vitamin ; those without NMTT (cefotaxime and cefoxitin) did not. The plasma accumulation of vitamin k1 2,3-epoxide was qualitatively similar to, but quantitatively less than, that produced by the oral anticoagulant phenprccoumon. In 36 patients eating normally, the median endogenous plasma vitamin k1 (370 pg/ml) was not significantly different from that in healthy, fasting subjects (372 pg/ml) and clotting tests remained consistently normal for all antibiotics tested. In 22 patients on total parenteral nutrition the median plasma vitamin k1. (223 pg/ml) was significantly lower than normal (p < 0.01) with 61patients having levels below the normal range (< 150 pg/ml) but normal clotting before starting antibiotic therapy. All 7 parenterally-fed patients treated with latamoxef developed hypoprothrombinaemia (as shown by prothrombin time, PIVKA-II and protein C measurements) within 4 days whereas 12 patients treated with cefotaxime or cefoxitin did not. Latamoxef-associated hypoprothrombinaemia was readily reversible by 1 mg of vitamin k1 given intravenously but hypoprothrombinaemia and sub-normal plasma vitamin k1 could recur within 2-3 days. The data suggest that NMTT-cephalosporins are inhibitors of hepatic vitamin K epoxide reductase and that a lowered vitamin K status predisposes to hypoprothrombinaemia.
