Abstract:
Learning outcomes To understand: – the demand and supply side challenges in launching a new product in sports. – Factors, which go into the making of a successful “new” sport. – The role of planning in sport management. Case overview/synopsis In July 2017, on the eve of Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) Season 5, kabaddi had emerged as one of India’s most important non-cricketing sport. PKL was India’s first men’s professional kabaddi league, introduced by Mashal Sports and Star India in 2014. Kabaddi was an indigenous sport, and India had an unbeaten international track record as world champions. Yet, the sport and its players had never received their due in India. In 2017, while kabaddi’s popularity had increased, leading to sponsorship opportunities, huge player bids, prize money and television viewership, all was not quite hunky-dory. A women’s kabaddi league introduced only the previous year had not been continued, despite an extended format in 2017. The audience profile also did not match that envisaged by Star. As a unique creator of sports content, Star was in an enviable position in India; and so was Kabaddi as a sport. How had Star created a new property around an indigenous sport with rural and rustic associations, transforming it into a snazzy, up-market sport within just three years, even while leagues involving other popular sports failed to create a mark? Could Star sustain this interest? How could kabaddi retain its “star” position within Star’s stable? Abstract:
Introduction: Kabaddi is one of the most popular games, which makes it our national pride. Kabaddi requires a lot of power, strength, flexibility, agility, speed, breath control and wariness. The game comes under contact sports and hence injuries are common. Muscle Energy Technique (MET) is a form of manual therapy used to relax the muscles via autogenic or reciprocal inhibition and lengthen the muscle, which uses muscle’s own energy in the form of gentle isometric contraction. The purpose of this study is to find out the effectiveness of MET on improving hamstring muscle flexibility, active knee extension (AKE) range, and agility in high school level kabaddi players. Subjects: 30 female amateur kabaddi players Methodology: 30 high school level Kabaddi players were assessed and selected based on the inclusion and exclusion criteria, and assigned into two groups. Group A (experimental n=15) received MET along with conventional exercises and Group B received Conventional flexibility exercises alone for 5 consecutive days. Pre-post and a follow-up measurement of hamstring flexibility, AKE and agility was taken using flexometer, 90-90 test and agility T-test. Results: Statistical analysis was done using paired and unpaired t-test. In paired t-test, the hamstring muscle flexibility improved significantly on day 5, on follow-up day 8 measurement it showed reduction in flexibility but not significant for both groups. The AKE of right and left knee joint has significantly improved on day 5 and there was significant reduction on day 8. Whereas the agility for both groups has significantly improved on day 5 and 8. On unpaired t-test, there is significant difference between both groups for all 3 outcomes. Conclusion: The Muscle energy Technique is effective on improving hamstring muscle flexibility, Active knee extension range and agility in 5 day MET programme. Therefore, concluded that Muscle Energy Technique is effective and can be administered on-field prior to sports events, and thereby improve player’s performance. Keywords: MET, Kabaddi, Hamstring injuries, Flexometer test, active knee extension test, agility T-test.

Abstract:
Video offers solutions to many of the traditional problems with coach, trainer, commenter, umpires and other security issues of modern team games. This paper presents a novel framework to perform player identification and tracking technique for the sports (Kabaddi) with extending the implementation towards the event handling process which expands the game analysis of the third umpire assessment. In the proposed methodology, video preprocessing has done with Kalman Filtering (KF) technique. Extended Gaussian Mixture Model (EGMM) implemented to detect the object occlusions and player labeling. Morphological operations have given the more genuine results on player detection on the spatial domain by applying the silhouette spot model. Team localization and player tracking has done with Robust Color Table (RCT) model generation to classify each team members. Hough Grid Transformation (HGT) and Region of Interest (RoI) method has applied for background annotation process. Through which each court line tracing and labeling in the half of the court with respect to their state-of-art for foremost event handling process is performed. Extensive experiments have been conducted on real time video samples to meet out the all the challenging aspects. Proposed algorithm tested on both Self Developed Video (SDV) data and Real Time Video (RTV) with dynamic background for the greater tracking accuracy and performance measures in the different state of video samples.

Abstract:
Cinema has played a role in caste politics in India. Its role ranges from special arrangement to consume the film to working in films based on caste based demarcated jobs. Films have always been in a constant struggle to eradicate eas well as to maintain the boundaries between the dominant and the dominated. Clothing is one such element which acts to represent the formation of a community’s image in people’s minds. The representation politics with the fabric worn in films becomes the clash between dress codes. These are symbolic conflicts played on the screen between social and cultural norms that possess the potential to alter identity and its structures of reality. This paper will be dealing with the analysis of three films by Pa. Ranjith: Attakathi (Cardboard Knife)(2012), Madras(2014) and Kabali(2016); to understand the representational politics involving the Dalit community with the help of costumes that the characters adorn in the films. Semiotics as an approach has been applied to understand the representation of Dalit identity reflected through clothing practices.

Abstract:
The article examines the processes of the formation of mass periodicals in the North Caucasus in the first years of the existence of Soviet power. Its relevance is due to the poor study of the Soviet press of the 1920s, especially its development in the national regions of the state. It is shown that the functions of the Soviet press at the first stages of its existence were reduced to the ideological struggle against counter-revolution and party opposition. At the same time, the newspapers covered topics relevant to early Soviet everyday life: peasant and school issues, the life of auls, food appropriation, food tax, etc. The purpose of the article is to examine the process of development of the Bolshevik policy in the field of mass media in the post-revolutionary period. It is emphasized that for a number of regions of the North Caucasus, the appearance of their own periodicals is associated with the arrival of the Soviet regime, which is pursuing a protectionist policy in relation to the press. It was within the framework of this policy that a number of local publications were published in the languages of the peoples of the North Caucasus, for example, the Ossetian «Rastdzinad». The list of newspapers published in the region during the period under study is presented, among which, in terms of the duration of the issue, the thematic content, one can single out such newspapers as «Krasnaya Kabarda», «Kommunist», «Sovetskaya Autonomnaya Chechnya», and «Gorskaya Pravda». Special attention is paid to the substantive analysis of the «Kommunist» newspaper for 1920, which made it possible to identify the most relevant plots and topics related to the coverage of the events of the Civil War, as well as the processes taking place within the framework of the emerging new economic policy and nation-building. In the conclusion, it is concluded that the important role played by both the Soviet periodicals and the press of the national regions in the ideological support of the activities of the organs of Soviet power.

Abstract:
The present study is the translation of Chapter 3 of the book of Ildikó Sz. Kristóf, entitled “Ördögi mesterséget nem cselekedtem.” A boszorkányüldözés társadalmi és kulturális háttere a kora újkori Debrecenben és Bihar vármegyében (“I have not done any diabolic deeds.” The Social and Cultural Foundation of Witch-Hunting in Early Modern Debrecen and Bihar County) published in Debrecen, Hungary in 1998. The book examined the witch-hunting in Bihar county and its largest city, the headquarters of the Calvinist church in Eastern Hungary between 1575 and 1766. During this period, 217 trials were conducted against 303 accused, and the book explored the social and religious foundations of the accusations. The witch-hunts in Bihar county were of rather small size (1–3 accused per annum) and intensity. A possible explanation for this relative mildness could be provided by a complex consideration of legal, religious, and local social circumstances. Chapter 3, published here in English, discusses Hungarian Calvinist demonology which remained rather sceptical about the concepts of diabolical witchcraft (e.g., the “covenant” or pact with the devil, the witches’ attendance at regular meetings (sabbath), etc.) throughout the early modern era. The author has studied several Calvinist treatises of theology published between the late 16th and the early 18th century by the printing press of Debrecen, those, for example, of Péter Mélius (1562), Tamás Félegyházi (1579), Péter Margitai Láni (1617), János Kecskeméti Alexis (1621), Mátyás Nógrádi (1651), Johannes Mediomontanus (1656), Pál Csehi (1656), István Diószegi Kis (1679; 1681), Gellért Kabai Bodor (1678) and Imre Pápai Páriz (1719). According to her findings, Calvinist demonology, although regarded the wordly interventions of the devil of limited scope (excepting, perhaps, the Puritans of the 1650s/1680s), urged the expurgation of the various forms of everyday magic from urban and village life. The suspicion of witchcraft fell especially on the practitioners of benevolent magic (popular healers/”wise women”, midwives, fortune-tellers, etc.) who were presumed to challenge and offend divine providence. The official religious considerations sometimes seem to have coincided with folk beliefs and explanations of misfortune concerning, among others, the plague epidemic in which witchcraft played an important role.

Abstract:
Introduction: Kabaddi is a contact sport and national game of India and is widely played in all regions of India. In the recent past decade, it has been grown in popularity at the national level or the international level also. It is a highly strategic game that involves rapid forceful movements of the body, thus, injuries are inevitable in this field. Aim: To record the prevalence of injuries in the past and present, in terms of various body parts and to record awareness and access of physiotherapy in Indian Kabaddi players. Materials and Methods: A cross-sectional survey of 80 professional national-level male Kabaddi players (mean age=21.65 years) presenting with various sports-related injuries were identified in the 1st All India Inter-University Kabaddi Tournament (2014-2015) held in Punjabi University, Patiala. Samples were selected by a convenient random sampling technique and scheduled questionnaire was the tool for data collection with three domains: demographic features, the present and past injuries, awareness and access of physiotherapy. Data was analysed using Microsoft excel and SPSS 20. Results: It was found that out of 80 players, the prevalence of present injury was 42.5% (n=34) and 62.5% (n=50) of injuries were recorded in the past two years. In the upper limb, the most common injured location was shoulder (21.25%) followed by the arm (5%). In the lower limb, knee (21.25%) was the most commonly injured site followed by the ankle (13.75%) while lower back (14.25%) constituted most of the injuries in the trunk. It was found that only 53.75% (n=41) players had awareness about physiotherapy and 23 (67.65%) players out of 34 players have chosen physiotherapy as treatment at the time of data collection. Conclusion: As kabaddi is a highly combative sport in nature, so athletes are more prone to get injured. More epidemiology studies are needed in Indian context to know the biomechanics of injuries.
