Abstract:

A new amphipod species, Dikerogammarus istanbulensis sp. nov., is described. Specimens were collected from a reservoir, near Silivri district, İ stanbul province, Turkey. The new species is similar to Dikerogammarus bispinosus Martynov, 1925 except for the presence of setae on inner surface of basal segment of pereopod 7 in both sexes and absence of long setae on the ventral side of second peduncle segment of antenna 1. In addition, epimeral plate 2 has many setae along the ventral margin in both sexes. A detailed morphological description and illustrations of the new species are given. Differences between the new species and related species are discussed. An identification key for the genus Dikerogammarus is presented.

Abstract:

Many people suffer loss of life and property due to the earthquake disaster in Turkey. In order to minimize this disaster, the resistance of the structures to earthquake should be determined under the light of studies done before. Turkey is in one of the most dangerous seismic regions in the World. As a sub plate between the large Eurasian, Arabian and African plates, Turkey rests on the Anatolian tectonic plate. Arabian plate in the direction of pushing Turkey to the North, the Anatolian plate moves in the opposite clockwise. However, it is prevented to move in the North direction due to the Eurasian plate. In this case, it contains many active faults and Turkey’s most populous city of Istanbul is in danger. In this study, it is aimed to perform a performance analysis according to the Turkey Building Earthquake Code 2018 in a six-story reinforced concrete shear wall-framed structure in Istanbul where active fault lines are located. This existing complex designed reinforced concrete building investigated in this study is in the city of ?stanbul, Turkey. This city is under danger of approaching and inevitable Great Istanbul Earthquake likely greater than Mw 7. The nonlinear seismic behavior of a complex reinforced concrete (RC) residential building is investigated by and linear and the static pushover. The selected reinforced concrete structure was designed according to 1998 version of Turkish Earthquake Code (TEC-1998). In the earthquake engineering, performance-based design method is used to determine the level of expected performance of the structures under the earthquake effect. According to the code, the reinforced concrete shear wall building is not expected to satisfy controlled damage (life safety) performance levels under design earthquake

Rashakhot Ain аl-Hayat’ (Drops of the Source of Life), written by Fakhruddin Ali Safi ibn Husayn Vaz Kashifi Hiravi (1463-1533), a mature manakibnavis and tazkiranavis scholar who lived in the 16th century and left a rich scientific heritage. This article is a study of a rare manuscript of this work.“Where is the oldest and most accurate book of the work “ Rashakhot” kept?” "Why is there such a huge difference between a critical text of a work and a manuscript of a newly discovered author?" “How important and necessary is it to draft a new critical text or a comparative text of this work?” "Why are there differences in the texts of a work copied in different countries?" This article addresses these issues. The article also discusses rare copies of "Rashakhot" in the fund of Stanbul (Turkey), their number, descriptions and comparative textological study of them with Tashkent copies by examples.

Abstract:

The Asian chestnut gall wasp (ACGW) is one of the most important pests threatening most Castanea species. The best management strategy against this pest can be establishing new orchards with resistant cultivars along with biocontrol (parasitoid Torymus sinensis Kamijo (Hymenoptera: Torymidae)). In Turkey, ACGW was first detected in 2014 at Gac?k village of Yalova province. Bursa, ?stanbul, Sakarya, Kocaeli, Bal?kesir, Bilecik, D?zce, Giresun, Bart?n, Zonguldak, Sinop and ?zmir provinces are also infected with ACGW. This study was carried out to determine the levels of susceptibility of chestnut cultivars/genotypes to ACGW. The study was carried out in Yalova province between 2016 and 2018. In total, 15 cultivars/genotypes were involved in the study, including European (C. sativa) chestnuts (Albayrak, Alt?nay, ?Erfelek?, ?Osmano?lu?, Sal?pazar?, ?Serdar?, ??nal?), interspecific hybrids (?Marigoule? and BDB-L) and complex hybrids (?Aky?z?, ?Macit 55?, ?Ali Nihat?, A9, A55, A56) were tested in the study. In April 2016, five- to seven-year-old seedlings were ?bark? grafted, and susceptibility to the ACGW was evaluated by recording the ratio of infected buds (%), visual assessment of the damage (severity), and calculations of an infestation index. Among the cultivars and genotypes tested in the study, the ?Aky?z? cultivar was determined to exhibit the highest resistance against the ACGW. To fully understand the resistance mechanism of the ?Aky?z? cultivar, molecular and biochemical studies should be done and compared with other results.

Abstract:

Rapid and uncontrolled changes in land use patterns due to urbanization negatively affect urban rainfall-runoff processes and flood hazard. In this study, a method that included different sustainable drainage solutions, such as green infrastructure (GI) usage for flood hazard mitigation with various scenarios on a geographic information system (GIS) platform within a 1653 ha catchment of the Kağıthane Stream in İstanbul, Turkey is presented. Developed scenarios are as follows: scenario one (SN1) is the current situation; scenario two (SN2) used green roof application for buildings and a permeable surface for roads; scenario three (SN3) used only green roof application for buildings; scenario four (SN4) used a rainwater barrel for collecting roof water, a swale canal for collecting road water, and added additional structures to open areas to observe urbanization; scenario five (SN5) considered multiple GI implementations; and scenario six (SN6) considered full urbanization. The results indicate that greener infrastructure implementation provides benefits in reducing both the runoff coefficient and the peak flowrate, and the flood inundation area and number of structures affected by flood risk were decreased. The integrated evaluation system, which consisted of the geographic information system and the assessment of the 1D HEC-RAS hydrologic model, was applied to evaluate the GI usage and flood mitigation.

Abstract:

The important positions of the thesis are mainly to understand the transformation in the architecture discipline under the umbrella of globalization and to define the current situation of residential architecture dominated by the new actors of construction sector through the transformation of identity value. In the first part of the study, how the production of residential architecture in Turkey is affected by the new values of capitalist globalization in the 21st century is examined. In order to monitor the development by the reflections of new actors in residential architecture, Istanbul is defined as a domain of the study. The main aim is to read the spatial and socio-cultural changes and developments in terms of residential architecture and to explore how the structure of the city affected by global developments and neo-liberal economic policies has formed. Thus, an inventory is established by the multi-unit housing projects completed in the first decade of the 21st century and the full list is investigated in terms of various kinds of housing supply and the different socio-economic status groups addressed by the projects. After defining the relation of residential architecture with city, the specific contribution of this dissertation is the explication of the role of the marketing industry in the formation of residential architecture through the conception of identity. The effects of marketing strategies on the architectural formation are discussed through selected cases to uncover which attitudes have caused the transformation in the internal values of the residential architecture. Therefore, the discussion on the identity formed by the coercive notions and the personalization of the actors involved in the process provides a basis for analysing the reflections of different disciplines on the architectural formation. This new discussion ground not only identifies the decisiveness of the architectural design in the formation of the end product but also contributes to the probe of the positional existence of the architect.
