Abstract:
In the process of reading sometimes the readers have difficulty identifying the meaning of words correctly, especially words with affixes of prefixes and suffixes. The writer had made three objects of research. The first research is to find out how many affixes were used in the poetry “The Forerunner” by Kahlil Gibran, the second research is to find out what types were used in the poetry “The Forerunner” by Kahlil Gibran, the third research is to find out what types were dominant use in the poetry “The Forerunner” by Kahlil Gibran. In this study, the writer uses a descriptive mixed method that described, identified, classified, and calculated numerical data on the words of affixes found in Kahlil Gibran’s poetry. The result of the research shows the total number of affixes is 105 data found in the four chapters of the poetry “The Forerunner” by Kahlil Gibran. There are two types of affixes used in the four chapters of the poetry “The Forerunner” by Kahlil Gibran prefixes and suffixes. The dominant types of affixes found in the four chapters of the poetry “The Forerunner” by Kahlil Gibran were suffixes found in 99 data with a percentage of 94,3%.

Abstract:
Kahlil Gibran is a Lebanese-American artist, writer, and poet. He is no stranger to literary lovers and connoisseurs. His phenomenal works made Kahlil Gibran famous. His life experience also adds its unique value to his works. The various meanings hidden behind each of his works deserve further analysis. Some of them are typical poems from Kahlil Gibran. He has his way of expressing the true meaning of life through his poems. Therefore, this study will show the symbolic meaning of these poems by using the hermeneutical analysis method from Paul Ricoeur. This method explains the meaning of the symbol in real life. A symbol is a form that gives meaning to every word or sentence contained in a literary work. The result of this analysis is the discovery of various kinds of symbols contained in the poems by Kahlil Gibran, including symbols of love, life, and death. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that love, life, and death are some of the symbols found in Kahlil Gibran's poems.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research; (1) describe, explore, and analyze the shift in religious ideology in Kahlil Gibran's poem Almustafa, (2) describe, explore, and analyze the construction of the reality of religious values in Kahlil Gibran's Almustaf poem. This type of research is classified as a qualitative descriptive research. The approach used is a critical literacy approach, which is to analyze the use of language aspects that experience a shift in religious values. The object of this research is the poem Almustafa by Kahlil Gibran. Data collection techniques used library techniques, namely reading, understanding, and analyzing the poem Almustafa by Kahlil Gibran. The data analysis technique uses library techniques, namely by reading, understanding, and analyzing the poem Almustafa by Kahlil Gibran through a critical literacy approach. The results showed that; (1) there is a shift in religious values in some parts of the poem. In poetry, Kahlil Gibran's views on religious values contain controversy between the title which is illustrated as a form of reflection of Islamic figures and the illustration presented. The shift in religious values occurs due to errors in the use of language aspects, namely concrete words, idioms, and figurative language used that are not in accordance with the context. The language aspect is fragments of poetry in the form of words, clauses, or sentences, (2) the shifts that occur, both in nature and in scope are different, this is due to differences in religious values conveyed by the construction of reality in the text. The shift is in the form of syncretism of several religious values, namely Islam, Hinduism, Christianity so that the benchmark for the value of truth in a message and the meaning of poetry becomes abstract. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk, (1) mendeskripsikan, mengeksplorasi, dan menganalisis pergeseran ideologi agama dalam puisi Almustafa karya Kahlil Gibran, (2) mendeskripsikan, mengeksplorasi, dan menganalisis konstruksi realitas nilai agama dalam puisi Almustaf karya Kahlil Gibran. Jenis penelitian ini tergolong penelitian deskriptif kualitatif. Pendekatan yang digunakan adalah ancangan literasi kritis, yaitu menganalisis penggunaan aspek bahasa yang mengalami pergeseran nilai-nilai agama. Objek penelitian ini adalah puisi Almustafa karya Kahlil Gibran. Teknik pengumpulan data menggunakan teknik pustaka, yaitu membaca, memahami, dan menganalisis puisi Almustafa karya Kahlil Gibran. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik pustaka, yaitu dengan membaca, memahami, dan menganalisis puisi Almustafa karya Kahlil Gibran melalui ancangan literasi kritis. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa; (1) terjadi pergeseran nilai-nilai agama dalam beberapa bagian puisi. Dalam puisi, pandangan-pandangan Kahlil Gibran tentang nilai-nilai agama mengandung kontroversi antara judul yang diilustrasikan sebagai bentuk refleksi tokoh Islam dengan ilustrasi yang disampaikan. Pergeseran nilai-nilai agama terjadi akibat kesalahan penggunaan aspek bahasa, yaitu kata konkret, idiom, dan bahasa figuratif yang digunakan tidak sesuai dengan konteksnya. Aspek bahasa tersebut merupakan penggalan-penggalan puisi berupa kata, klausa, atau kalimat, (2) pergeseran yang terjadi, baik sifat maupun cakupannya berbeda-beda, hal ini disebabkan oleh adanya perbedaan nilai-nilai agama yang disampaikan dengan konstruksi realitas yang ada dalam teks. Pergeseran tersebut berupa sinkretisme beberapa nilai agama, yaitu Islam, Hindu, Nasrani, dan Yahudi sehingga tolok ukur nilai kebenaran dalam sebuah pesan dan makna puisi menjadi abstrak.

Abstract:
The objective of this research is to find out the figurative languages in the Broken Wings by Kahlil Gibran. This research is descriptive qualitative. The data was taken from Kahlil Gibran’s novel entitled “The Broken Wings”. The researcher analyzes the data based on Abrams’s theory (1999) about figurative language. The result analysis shows that Based on table 9 above, shows there are several types of figurative language in “The Broken Wings” by Kahlil Gibran. 292 data contains figurative language in 8 types of figurative language including simile, personification, metaphor, synecdoche, hyperbole, paradox, symbol, and proverb. In a simile, there are 128 data (43.8 %). In personification, there are 34 data (11.6 %). In metaphor, there are 33 data (11.3 %). In synecdoche, there are 30 data (10.3 %). In hyperbole, there are 25 data (8.6 %). In a paradox, there are 22 data (7.5 %). In symbol, there are 13 data (4.5 %). In the proverb, there are 7 data (2.4 %). It shows that the most dominant type of figurative language in “The Broken Wings” by Kahlil Gibran is simile as 128 data or 43.8 %. The novel Broken Wings by Kahlil Gibran is a romantic literary novel that tells the fate of Gibran's love story for a Lebanese girl named Selma Karamy. The writing of this novel is very light and easy to read and the way he writes it makes us immersed in the situation of the love story. The style of language used by the author in this novel is very distinctive. The author provides proof that his love story wrapped in romance is written in beautiful and interesting language to the readers.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengkaji lebih dalam nilai-nilai tasawuf dalam kumpulan puisi karya Kahlil Gibran. Hal ini dikarenakan puisi-puisi Kahlil Gibran diduga kuat mengandung nilai-nilai tasawuf meskipun ia bukan seorang muslim. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian kepustakaan (Libarry Research). Sumber data dalam penelitian berupa primer dan sekunder. Data primer diambil dari tiga puisi Kahlil Gibran dalam buku yang berjudul Setitis Air Mata Seulas Senyum. Sementara data sekunder meliputi dokumentasi berupa buku dan artikel yang berkaitan dengan penelitian. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan cara mendokumentasi karya-karya Kahlil Gibran serta berbagai rujukan referensi lainnya. Adapun analisisnya menggunakan metode analisis pesan atau isi yang terkandung dalam puisi-puisi Kahlil Gibran. Hasil dari penelitan ini menunjukkan bahwa ketiga puisi Kahlil Gibran mengandung dua karakteristik yaitu tasawuf akhlaqi dan falsafi. Hal ini diperkuat lagi dengan ditemukannya sembilan nilai-nilai tasawuf di dalamnya. Nilai-nilai tasawuf tersebut adalah mahabbah, zikir, syukur, tafakur, ridho, taubat, tawakal, ikhtiar, dan ittihad.

Gibran's thoughts and ideas are very philosophical and full of meaning, since expressed in beautiful poetical style, therefore popular in public. In another side, Gibran's styles are often using parables and aphorisms make people easier to understand even within esoteric and mystical dimension. Inits analysis the writer saw the whole Gibran 's vision and perception towards universal themes in life, including love, it could be said that Gibran is a person with sharp and clear view in perceiving reality around. Even to show the truth ofreality portrait, Gibran does not hesitate to break the common order and the "approved" order, to the minutes details such as the application ofgrammar. This makes Gibran to bear the title The Heretic and The Rebellious. This style is followed and gives inspiration to many writers and another thinker after himself. This Gibran's thought and style to many people are called as Gibranism.

Penelitian ini adalah penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif yaitu penelitian yang tidak melakukan atau mengadakan perhitungan dengan objek penelitian kumpulan puisi Setitis Air Mata, Seulas Senyum karya Kahlil Gibran. Metode pengumpulan data yang di gunakan adalah metode dokumentasi dan metode simak. Metode analisis data yang di gunakan adalah deskriptif. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh keinginan peneliti untuk mengidentifikasi makna konotatif pada kumpulan puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara karya Kahlil Gibran. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mendeskripsikan makna konotatif yang digunakan pada kumpulan puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara karya Kahlil Gibran. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini merupakan pendekatan penelitian kualitatif dengan jenis penelitian deskriptif. Sumber data dalam penelitian ini adalah kumpulan puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara karya Kahlil Gibran. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa, makna konotatif yang digunakan pada kumpulan puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara karya Kahlil Gibran dari 9 puisi yang dipilih, ditemukan makna konotatif secara keseluruhan berjumlah 71 penggunaan, di antaranya pada puisi yang berjudul Cinta, ditemukan makna konotatif berjumlah 8, puisi yang berjudul Demi Surga, Jantung Hatiku berjumlah 6, puisi yang berjudul Gita Cinta berjumlah 15, puisi yang berjudul Musim Panas berjumlah 4, puisi yang berjudul Musim Gugur berjumlah 5, puisi yang berjudul Musim Dingin berjumlah 8, puisi yang berjudul Pandangan Pertama berjumlah 7, puisi yang berjudul Ciuman Pertama berjumlah 8, dan puisi yang berjudul Pernikahan berjumlah 10 penggunaan. Berdasarkan hasil analisis tersebut, dapat disimpulkan bahwa setiap larik pada kumpulan puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara karya Kahlil Gibran mengandung makna konotatif di setiap syairnya. Saran yang dapat diberikan peneliti khususnya bagi guru bahasa dan sastra Indonesia, melalui kumpulan puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara karya Kahlil Gibran dapat dijadikan sebagai materi pembelajaran sastra untuk meningkatkan kemampuan siswa dalam menganalisis dan mengapresiasi karya sastra. Bagi siswa, hendaknya memperluas wawasanya pada materi mengenai makna konotatif, sehingga mampu membedakan makna konotatif di dalam sebuah karya sastra khususnya dalam puisi Ketika Cinta Bicara. Bagi peneliti selanjutnya, penelitian ini diharapkan dapat menjadi referensi dalam mengembangkan penelitian selanjutnya yang masih dalam ruang lingkup yang sama

Kahlil Gibran is one of the most important writers of modern Arabic literature and one of the most successful poets of English in the twentieth century. He is undoubtedly a pioneer among Arab poets and novelists writing in English and the most important figure in the Émigré literary movement. His world-wide popularity is due in large part to his universal spiritual message of love and compassion. This study, focusing on both his Arabic and English works, seeks to explore the various contextual aspects that affect all of Gibran’s works since his birth in Mount Lebanon. It also presents a critical overview of all his works for readers and critics that seek a deeper appreciation and a more comprehensive understanding of this literary genius. The study highlights the spiritual element which serves as the link that unifies his Arabic and English works and propels them to enduring literary and popular success across cultures. Abstrak Kahlil Gibran merupakan salah seorang penulis yang tersohor dalam kesusasteraan Arab moden dan salah seorang penyair Inggeris yang berjaya pada abad kedua puluh. Kredibiliti beliau tidak diragukan kerana beliau merupakan perintis dalam kalangan penyair dan novelis Arab yang menulis dalam bahasa Inggeris dan tokoh terpenting dalam gerakan sastera Émigré. Sebahagian besar popularitinya di seluruh dunia adalah disebabkan oleh mesej rohani universal cinta dan belas kasihannya. Kajian ini difokuskan kepada kedua-dua karya Arab dan Inggerisnya untuk meneroka pelbagai aspek kontekstual yang mempengaruhi semua karya Gibran sejak kelahirannya di Gunung Lubnan. Kajian ini juga memberikan gambaran keseluruhan yang kritis mengenai semua karya beliau kepada pembaca dan pengkritik yang mencari penghayatan yang lebih mendalam dan pemahaman yang lebih komprehensif tentang kehebatan sastera ini. Kajian ini juga mengenengahkan unsur kerohanian yang berfungsi sebagai penghubung yang menyatukan hasil karya Arab dan Inggerisnya dan mendorong mereka kepada kejayaan sastera dan popular yang berkekalan di seluruh budaya. Abstract:
This research contains a short sketch of Gibran’s life, his intellectual background, and a review of the translations of his works and studies on him in Turkiye. It indicates that the first translation of Gibran into Turkish was done in 1946 by Ömer Rıza Doğrul. Almost all of Gibran’s works have been translated into Turkish. As the researcher mentions, the most famous translator of Gibran is Cahit Koytak, a well-known poet in Turkiye. The researcher argues that Gibran was perceived in Turkiye, as a Sufi – sage, and, had never been considered an “eccentric”, or “alien”. Furthermore, he argues that The New Age Movement of the ‘70s might have increased translations of Gibran in Turkiye. After reviewing remarkable academic activities, the researcher determined that most of the Gibran studies in Turkish academia focus on this unique author's philosophical and religious aspects. Best known for <em>The Prophet</em> (1923), Gibran&rsquo;s poetry offers timeless teachings that transcend cultural and religious barriers. This paper explores his most famous quotes, analyzing their deep philosophical implications and their enduring relevance to contemporary society. By examining key themes such as love, freedom, pain, work, and death, it becomes evident that Gibran&rsquo;s work offers a blueprint for living a meaningful and compassionate life. His poetry acts as a bridge between Eastern mysticism and Western rationalism, harmonizing spiritual and philosophical thought in a way few writers have achieved. Women are only objects and do not get equal rights in social life, education, and position before the law. Kahlil Gibran, a writer of the Mahjar Era from Lebanon, in the novel المتكسرة الأجنحة Al Ajnihah Al Mutakassirah (Broken Wings), raises the issue of women's helplessness against the influence of male power at that time. The character of Salma Karamy, the daughter of Faris Affandi, a wealthy man in Lebanon, is helpless in the face of the influence of the power of Bishop Bolus Galib who wants Faris's wealth by forcing the marriage of his nephew Mansour Bey Galib to Salma. Salma and Kahlil Gibran's love ran aground. This journal uses a qualitative-descriptive method to examine the novel المتكسرة الأجنحة Al Ajnihah Al Mutakassirah (Broken Wings) by Kahlil Gibran, in terms of feminism, especially liberal feminism according to Naomi Wolf. From the results of research and analysis of the novel الأجنحة المتكسرة Al Ajnihah Al Mutakassirah (Broken Wings) by Kahlil Gibran, it was found that the influence of religious leaders (Bishop Bolus Galib) was very large in social life in society. Women at that time lived oppressed, only as objects, and did not have equal rights with men. The Use of Deixis in Kisah Negeri Lain by Kahlil GibranThis study aims to describe the form and function of deixis in Kisah Negeri Lain by Kahlil Gibran. The method used is descriptive qualitative. The study data was collected through a reading-note technique. The data analysis was carried out using an interactive model which included, (1) data reduction (2) data presentation (3) temporary conclusion drawing, and (4)verification. The results showed that in Kisah Negeri Lain by Kahlil Gibran, various forms and functions of deixis were found. The forms of deixis in question include, (1) personal deixis consisting of the first person, second person, and third person, (2) place deixis, (3) time deixis consisting of past, present, and future times, (4) deixis discourse consisting of anaphora and cataphora, (4) social deixis. The deixis functions in question include, (1) expressive functions, (2) conative functions, (3) referential functions, and (4) phatic functions.AbstrakKajian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan bentuk dan fungsi deiksis dalam Kisah Negeri Lain karya Kahlil Gibran. Metode yang digunakan bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Data kajian dikumpulkan melalui teknik baca-catat. The objective of this research is to describe the meaning of love found in “The Broken Wings” by Kahlil Gibran. Love is the main theme in this story. The love in it is not only for Gibran to Selma Karamy, but also Selma Karamy's affection for his father is a form of love. Selma Karamy, who is starting to grow up, feels restless about her father. He realized that she was a woman. "Indeed, the tears of an old man are more meaningful than the tears of youth”. Love is not only for lovers, a child can give love to his parents. But, in the novel Wings of Broken, the love of a couple is highlighted. With his extraordinary sensitivity, Kahlil Gibran weaves a love story about a beautiful and passionate couple. The strength of this novel lies in its poetic lyrics which are full of meaning and the criticism it conveys. Love is interpreted as an attempt to love, do not have to have a loved one. Because in the end all will be returned to God, the Owner of Love. In this case, Gibran sees Selma as a ray of light that leads him to understand the meaning of life. Selma led Gibran to enter willingly into the paradise of pure love and truth with her sweetness and love. In The Broken Wings, Gibran uses the story of Adam and Eve to illustrate his story. When the love has died (or forced to die), what remains is only a row of sorrow that resides on the tomb. Leaving sweet dreams and painful memories behind. Just like a broken wing, unable to flap anymore.

AbstractThe aim of this article is to examine Gibran Kahlil Gibran's ideas, as articulated in The Procession (Al-Mawākib), in the context of New England Transcendentalism, in particular Emerson's and Thoreau's. Even though critics recognize Ralph Waldo Emerson (and less frequently Henry David Thoreau) as an influence on Gibran, the precise nature of the influence has not been spelled out clearly. In this study, I shall attempt to do so. To the end of establishing the New England Transcendentalist influence on Gibran more firmly and coherently, I locate, explain, and highlight some of the striking echoes, similarities, and analogies (linguistic, philosophic, as well as structural) in Gibran's The Procession, on the one hand, and Emerson's essays and Thoreau's Walden, on the other hand. Such an examination of the relationship will certainly enrich the meanings of Gibran's poem, shed a new light on his ideas, and suggest an angle from which his philosophy is best viewed.

Anthropomorphic metaphors were found as many as 3 findings, animal metaphors were found as many as 3 findings, metaphors from concrete to abstract were found 3 findings, and anesthesia metaphors were found as many as 3 findings. Through this poem students can use this novel as a learning medium and this research can be used as additional material for teachers to provide learning understanding, especially in metaphorical materials.

The sentence-initial coordinating conjunctions (and, but), referred to in the literature as SIA and SIB, have been well established as discourse markers beyond their syntactic function as connectors of related propositions. In reference to the proof-editing process of The Prophet, Kahlil Gibran’s most internationally acclaimed work in English, records show that Gibran tends to “overuse” “Ands” and “Buts”. In this context, this study traces Gibran’s use of sentence-initial coordinating conjunctions (and, but) in The Prophet and his seven other works in English, attempting to determine whether his use of SIA and SIB can be stylistically characterized. In this context, this study adopts a corpus stylistics approach to look into the frequency of SIA and SIB across Gibran’s English works. The findings of this study reveal that Gibran’s frequent use of SIA and SIB is statistically “meaningful” and his use of SIA and SIB is a “conscious” act of discourse marking, similar in nature to their “unique” use in King James Bible and William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and of Experience (Gibran’s most influential and inspirational literary sources). In addition, the collocational networks for both SIA and SIB display that Gibran depends heavily on the coordinating conjunction (and) to verbalize his arguments and points of view, shifting his prose-poetry as close as possible to “orality”—a biblical stylistic feature par excellence

Akan tetapi orang Amerika kesulitan melafalkan huruf kha ( خ) dari nama Khalil ( خليل ), maka lafalnya kemudian menjadi Kahlil. Transliterasi ini keliru dan tidak ada nama Arab yang ditulis sebagai Kahlil ) كهليل ). Namun Khalil menggunakannya untuk memberi kemudahan masyarakat menyebut namanya tanpa kesulitan. Sedangkan perubahan nama Jubran menjadi Gibran terjadi karena proses peralihan dialek. Diantara kontribusi sastra Arab yang sempat ia berikan adalah memperkaya keragaman sastra dengan puisi dan prosa liriknya, menyebarkan aliran simbolik dan mengangkat suara-suara kemanusiaan yang terzhalimi. Melalui karya itulah ia menyuarakan rasa cinta dan kerinduannya akan keadilan sejati sampai akhir hayatnya---Jubran Khalil Jubran(1883-1931)was a prominent figure in modern Arabic literature. According to the West tradition, he only uses two syllables, namely Khalil Jubran. Bu tthe Americans difficulty pronouncing the letter kha ( خ) of the name Khalil ( خليل ), then the pronunciation then becomes Kahlil. Actually, transliteration is wrong and there are no Arabic names are written as Kahlil ( كهليل ). But Khalil used it to ease the public naming him without any difficulties. Meanwhile, the name of Jubran changes to Gibran because of transitioning dialect. Among his contributions to the Arabic literary are enrich the diversity of literature with poetry and prose lyrics, spreading flow of symbolic and voicing of oppressed people. Through his work, he voiced a sense of love and longing for true justice until his death.

Tidak semua pembaca dapat memahami secara langsung tentang makna yang terkandung dalam puisi. Untuk dapat memahami maknanya, maka dibutuhkan suatu pendekatan untuk menganalisis unsur-unsur intrinsik di dalam puisi tersebut. Pendekatan yang digunakan dalam artikel ini adalah pendekatan strukturalisme yang akan menjelaskan setiap unsur yang terdapat dalam puisi, seperti tema, gaya bahasa, amanat, dan sebagainya. Penelitian ini merupakan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dikarenakan peneliti melakukan analisis dengan dua teknik, yaitu teknik simak dan catat. Teknik simak dilakukan dengan cara membaca dan memahami setiap baris sajak dalam puisi, dan teknik catat dilakukan dengan cara mencatat hasil penelitian setelah peneliti memahami makna yang terkandung dalam setiap baris. Based on data analysis, it was found that there are five categories of language styles in short story Surakh al-Qubur, they are: first, lexical (synonym and typical words); second, grammatical (verb and noun); third, rhetorical (alliteration, asyndeton, assonance, chiasmus, polysyndeton, and hyperbole) and figure of speech (metaphor, personification, simile, and eponym); fourth, cohesion and connectors such as al-wawu, al-fa’u, tsumma, au, and am; and fifth, character speech that can be analyzed using narration and dialogue. The influence of stylistic on meaning is that readers get the information directly or indirectly, feels sadness, gives advice, gets a picture of injustice, makes readers curious and more focused.

Metode penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode kualitatif dengan data tulis berupa kata, frase, atau kalimat yang mengandung nilai-nilai pendidikan. Analisis data dilakukan secara informal, yakni menggunakan uraian-uraian verbal tentang deskripsi nilai-nilai pendidikan. Teori nilai yang akan dipergunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori nilai yang dikemukakan oleh Scheler. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa nilai-nilai pendidikan terdiri atas nilai ketuhanan dan nilai kemanusiaan. Nilai ketuhanan meliputi nilai keagamaan. The structure of the novel broken wings consists of ten parts that describe the stages of the "I" love journey. My character is a representation of the author, in another novel he calls himself "the Prophet". As if Kahlil Gibran did not want to part with the structure he created. The depiction of the figure I in each stage displays the dialectics of conflict between structures that form the theme of social inequality. The author examines the structure of the text in the novel broken wings as a thematic structure, the structure of the text is interpreted as social themes that shape social classes based on education and religion. The social reality of society in the novel of broken wings gives birth to binary opposition of social class based on education and religion. Social classifications based on education distinguish educated and barbarians, while classifications based on religion distinguish imams and worshipers. The novel of the broken wings positions the author's partisanship on the young man who fails to fight for his love due to the injustice wrapped up in religious dogma.

Abstract:
This research analyzes the translation between two translators in translating Kahlil Gibran’s work entitled “The Broken Wings” into ‘Sayap-Sayap Patah”. This research is descriptive qualitative. The analysis shows that the two translators have different styles of translating. The first translator, Sapardi Djoko Damono, chose a more formal and direct style in his translation, while the second translator, M. Ruslan Shiddieq, tended to use a more expressive style and prioritized artistic impressions. Sapardi Djoko Damono maintained fidelity to the original text by translating it literally, while M. Ruslan Shiddieq carried out free interpretation and created more metaphorical and creative sentences. These differences in approach result in translations that have different nuances and expressions, reflecting the translator's style and preferences. Despite their differences, both translators, Sapardi Djoko Damono and M. Ruslan Shiddieq, effectively convey the essence of Kahlil Gibran's "The Broken Wings" in Indonesian, albeit through distinct stylistic lenses. To be a proficient translator of literary works, one must possess a mastery of both the source and target languages, a deep understanding of literature, a keen sense of aesthetics, and a strong sense of literature. AbstrakPenelitian ini menganalisis penerjemahan antara dua orang penerjemah dalam menerjemahkan karya Kahlil Gibran yang berjudul “The Broken Wings” ke dalam ‘Sayap-Sayap Patah’. Penelitian ini bersifat deskriptif kualitatif. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa kedua penerjemah mempunyai gaya penerjemahan yang berbeda. Penerjemah pertama, Sapardi Djoko Damono, memilih gaya yang lebih formal dan langsung dalam penerjemahannya, sedangkan penerjemah kedua, M. Ruslan Shiddieq, cenderung menggunakan gaya yang lebih ekspresif dan mengutamakan kesan artistik. Sapardi Djoko Damono menjaga kesetiaan pada teks aslinya dengan menerjemahkannya secara harfiah, sedangkan M. Ruslan Shiddieq melakukan interpretasi bebas dan menciptakan kalimat yang lebih metaforis dan kreatif. Perbedaan pendekatan ini menghasilkan terjemahan yang mempunyai nuansa dan ekspresi berbeda yang mencerminkan gaya dan preferensi penerjemah. Meski berbeda, kedua penerjemah, Sapardi Djoko Damono dan M. Ruslan Shiddieq efektif menyampaikan esensi “Sayap Patah” karya Kahlil Gibran dalam bahasa Indonesia, meski melalui lensa stilistika yang berbeda. Untuk menjadi seorang penerjemah karya sastra yang mahir, seseorang harus memiliki penguasaan bahasa sumber dan bahasa sasaran, pemahaman yang mendalam tentang sastra, rasa estetika yang tajam, dan rasa sastra yang kuat. Sastra dengan kedalaman emosional dan keindahan linguistiknya sangat disukai pembaca. Penerjemah terampil seperti Sapardi Djoko Damono dan M. Ruslan Shiddieq menonjolkan kualitas liris dan mendalam dalam terjemahannya. Secara keseluruhan, penerjemahan karya sastra tidak hanya memerlukan kemahiran linguistik tetapi juga keterampilan kreatif dan kepekaan budaya. &#x0D; Al-Ajanihah Al-Mutakasirroh’s novel was written by Gibran Kahlil Gibran ( 1883 – 1931 ) a Lebanese-born literary writer. Various works have been published in various countries. One of them is the Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakasirroh novel as an autobiograpical novel. This novel takes theme of a love story that fails when there is love for two human beings. Novel Memang Jodoh, by Marah Rusli ( 1889 – 1968 ) he is an Indonesian literary force at Balai Pustaka. Novel Memang Jodoh a match as an autobiographical novel of the author. This novel tells the story of love that happily interwoven. The method used is comparative descriptive method. Through this method teh date is first described and then compared. The approach used is the heuristic and hermeneutic approach, Michael Riffaterre to describe the role of moral values contained in the novel Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakasiroh and Memang Jodoh. This study aims to determine the comparison of moral values contained in the novel. The results showed a dfiference between the characters who encourage the creation of moral values, the end of the love story in the novel and the causes of conflict in the novel.&#x0D; &#x0D; Novel Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakasirroh dikarang oleh Gibran Kahlil Gibran ( 1883-1931 ), seorang penulis karya sastra kelahiran Lebanon. Beragam karya nya telah diterbitkan kedalam berbagai negara. Salah satunya yakni novel Al-Ajnihah Al-Mutakasirroh sebagai novel otobiografi. Novel ini mengangkat tema kisah percintaan yang kandas dikala tumbuhnya cinta pada dua insani. Morphology is one of the linguistic sciences that discusses the ins and outs of word formation such as compositum. Compositum is a combination of two words but the elements of compositum can be two or more words. Compositum has a word component as its forming element which has a special pattern so that it is different from other word combinations, such as idioms and phrases. The difference can be seen in terms of the level of meaning. Compositum can be classified into several types, namely based on the cohesiveness of meaning, the type of words of the elements, the distribution system, the complexity, and the language origin of the elements. Based on the cohesiveness of meaning, compositum consists of semicompound and non-compound compositum. Semicompound compositum is a compound word whose meaning is still related to the meaning of one of its elements. Meanwhile, a non-compound (tenuous) compositum is a compound word whose meaning is still related to the meaning of all its elements. Thus, many readers still do not know how semicompound and uncompound composites can be formed in Kahlil Gibran's poetry collection. In learning, there are still many educators who have not conveyed about compositum so that students do not know and have difficulty in determining compositum. Descriptive qualitative is the method used in this research. The purpose of this research is to analyze and describe semi-compound and non-compound compositum in a collection of poems by Kahlil Gibran. Based on the results of the analysis, there are 33 data including compositum based on the unity of meaning, namely 11 data showing semicompound compositum and 22 data including non-compound compositum. &#x0D;

Memahami konteks penggunaan deiksis menjadi salah satu elemen yang dapat membangun kedekatan pembaca dan tokoh serta mengungkapkan makna yang sesuai. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis penggunaan deiksis dalam cerpen “Māta Ahlī” karya Khalil Gibran dengan pendekatan pragmatik. Fokus dalam penelitian ini adalah mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk deiksis dalam membangun narasi dan pesan moral. Data diambil dari cerpen ini dengan metode deskriptif kualitatif. Sumber data primer dalam penelitian ini adalah cerpen karya Khalil Gibran. Adapun sumber data sekunder adalah kajian literatur yang relevan dengan penelitian penulis. Teknik yang digunakan adalah teknik membaca dan mencatat. Penulis menggunakan model Miles dan Huberman dalam analisis data untuk menemukan dan mengidentifikasi bentuk-bentuk deiksis. Hasil penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat 3 bentuk deiksis, yaitu deiksis persona, deiksis waktu, dan deiksis ruang. Dari cerpen “Māta Ahlī” ditemukan 79 data deiksis persona, 31 data deiksis ruang, dan 5 data deiksis waktu. Deiksis dalam cerpen ini berfungsi sebagai alat penting untuk memperkuat pesan moral tentang solidaritas, pengorbanan, dan empati dalam menghadapi penderitaan. Analisis deiksis dapat menjadi pendekatan yang signifikan dalam mengungkap makna yang tersembunyi dan emosi tokoh dalam karya sastra. Temuan ini memperkaya kajian pragmatik dan membuka peluang terkait fungsi linguistik dalam teks sastra.

Philosophy regulates the functioning of human life. Good philosophies are the cross-cutting faces of human life. This theoretical thinking in Arabic literature dates back to the Jahiliyya period. Arab literary figures that, have appeared throughout history, have made significant contributions to the regulation of human life by conveying philosophical ideas in their literary works. These philosophical dialogues have the potential to elicit a positive response in solving the various social, economic and political issues of human life. In this manner, the Lebanese Arab diaspora poet Khalil Gibran is one of the foremost contributors to the Arabic literary world. The research tries to introduce Arabic diaspora literatue and poet Khalil Zibran and to express the theoretical and social ideas expressed in his poems. For this purpose, descriptive and analytical methods were used and studied. The poet Khalil Gibran writes in these poems all his philosophical thoughts and social views, and speaks in it with the senses of nature and its details, arguing that nature is the cause of complete happiness and that the world is free from hypocrisy. This is what he describes as the characteristic of souls who strive to achieve their distant goal behind perfect human life away from the false world of materialism.

This essay consists of three beginnings, then a deferred reading of a novel. One beginning, a theoretical beginning, reflects on the question implicit in my title: What is unstated in the state of Lebanon? Another beginning, a literary critical beginning, returns to the work of Kahlil Gibran, the most famous early-twentieth-century Arab North American writer. Gibran links modernist and postmodernist Arab North American writing and, in a historical parallel, connects the foundations of the Lebanese state under French colonial rule to its disintegration in the context of the civil war. A third beginning, a contextual beginning, evokes more recent events in Lebanon through a discussion of the July War of 2006, during which Israel bombed the country for over a month. These three points of departure, I suggest, are crucial to readings of contemporary Arab North American fiction, which is always conditioned by theories of the state, a post-Gibran literary sensibility, and the politics of the present. More specifically, I argue that Rawi Hage's representation of the civil war in Lebanon in DeNiro's Game negotiates the destruction of the Lebanese state through figures of the unstated, whose very existence questions more generally the state form as the preeminent site of political authority and contributes to unstating the state.

The object of this study are two poems from different authors, namely the poem “I Love You In Silence” by Jalaluddin Rumi with the poem “Great Love” by Kahlil Gibran. This study aims to compare the style of language of the two poems. The method used by the authours in this study is the comparison method. The results showed that there where three similarities and two differences found in the two poems. First, there are there are similarities in the style of language. Secondly, there are similiraties in the style of language based on the structure of sentences, both poems use the name style of repetition language, and not only that the third equation is found in the direct or indirect meaning of meaning because both poems also use the style of personification. As for the difference between the two poems there are two differences. First, it lies in the phrase used in the repetitive language style, if in the poem Rumi uses the phrase ‘I Chose’ while Gibran uses the phrase ‘when’. Cerpen Sharahkh al-Qubur dalam antologi Al-arwah Al-mutamarridhah mengandung suatu hegemoni yang dilakukan oleh suatu pihak elit politis, terhadap beberapa kelompok yang didominasi. Hegemoni tersebut lebih dipengaruhi oleh ideologi-ideologi kaum penguasa di tengah-tengah masyarakat saat itu, sehingga cerpen ini membutuhkan pisau analisis hegemoni kekuasaan Antonio Gramsci untuk membedah isi dan kandungan yang menonjolkan sisi-sisi hegemoni yang ada. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengungkapkan bentuk ideologi-ideologi tersebut beserta penjelasan terkait pengaruhnya pada kehidupan sosial masyarakat yang secara tidak sadar dikurung dalam hegemoni yang dibuat oleh kelompok penguasa. Penelitian ini merupakan sebuah penelitian literatur atau penelitian kepustakaan dengan objek cerpen Sharahkh al-Qubur dalam antologi Al-arwah Al-mutamarridhah. Sementara itu dalam menganalisis data, penulis menggunakan teknis analisis isi model aliran Miles dan Hubermen dengan beberapa langkah, diantaranya tahap reduksi data, tahap penyajian data, dan tahap penarikan kesimpulan. Hasil dari penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa cerpen tersebut mengandung hegemoni integral atau menyeluruh berupa masyarakat yang terbawa ideologi penguasa membuat masyarakat masuk dalam politik dan dengan sendirinya akan memihak kepada keputusan sang raja, selain juga rajanya dikenal dengan tegas dan adil menegakkan supremasi aturan. Kedua, hegemoni decadent atau merosot berupa masyarakat seakan telah mengalami potensi disintegrasi dan masih mempertanyakan kemungkinan yang benar terjadi atau tidaknya terhadap kejadian seorang lelaki tua mencuri tepung hidangan suci yang terjadi saat keluarganya dalam keadaan kelaparan. Kesimpulan dari penelitian ini adalah hegemoni yang mendominasi dari ketiga hegemoni Gramsci yaitu hegemoni integral.

This paper focuses on the aporias in literary texts written and/or translated into Arabic, French, Italian, and English. I contend that some terms/phrases are difficult to render in the target text. This argument is bolstered by examples extracted from The Prophet of the Arabo-American author Gibran Kahlil Gibran. I selected this particular oeuvre given its immense success in terms of vast cultural diffusion and translation into various languages. Also, The Prophet, has been translated several times into the same target languages in addition to the large number of languages to which it has been rendered. I will discuss the translator’s dilemma when undertaking the task of faithfully conveying the aesthetics of the original text into the same, or into the closest version of the original. This paper concentrates on the cultural differences between languages by emphasizing on untranslatability and various retranslations. It analyzes how these elements were rendered into the target culture and language. The argument put forth in this paper attempts to shed light on the importance of literary translation, as one of the most critical discourses of translation.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bentuk-bentuk divergensi modalitas dari Charles J. Fillmore dan maknanya dalam novel terjemahan “Sayap-Sayap Patah” karya Kahlil Gibran agar terhindar dari kesalahpahaman dalam memaknai bahasanya. Jenis penelitian ini adalah penelitian kualitatif deskriptif. Sumber data primernya adalah terjemahan novel “Sayap-Sayap Patah”, sedangkan sumber data sekundernya adalah referensi yang mendukung sumber data primer, yaitu buku-buku semantik khususnya tentang teori tata bahasa kasus Charles J. Fillmore. Dalam pengumpulan data, peneliti menggunakan teknik baca-catat. Dari penelitian ini dapat diketahui bahwasanya dalam terjemah novel tersebut terdapat empat bentuk modalitas yaitu (1) intensional, yang memiliki makna keinginan, harapan, ajakan, pembiaran, dan permintaan; (2) epistemik, yang terdiri dari makna kemungkinan, keteramalan, keharusan dan kepastian; (3) deontik, yang bermakna perintah; dan (4) dinamik, yang bermakna kemampuan. Berdasarkan hasil terebut dapat diketahui bahwa novel terjemah “Sayap-Sayap Patah” menggunakan modalitas yang kompleks, akan tetapi lebih banyak menggunakan modalitas intensional. Tokoh yang tercermin dalam karya sastra ini cenderung tidak memiliki sifat otoriter, melainkan demokratis.This study analyses Fillmore's modality variances and their meaning in the Indonesian translation of the novel “Broken Wings” by Kahlil Gibran. This is a descriptive qualitative research. The translated novel, “Sayap-Sayap Patah” is the primary data while the secondary data are taken from the literature on the semantic theory of Charles J. Fillmore. The researchers used the close reading technique to collect the data. From this research, it can be inferred that in the Indonesian translation of the novel, there are four forms of modalities namely (1) intentional modality, which conveys desire, hope, invitation, neglect, and request; (2) epistemic modality, which deals with the ideas of possibility, practicality, necessity, and certainty; (3) deontic modality, meaning commands; and (4) dynamic modality, which concerns the idea of abilities. These results indicate that the Indonesian translation of the novel “Broken Wings” uses complex modalities with the majority being intentional modalities. The main character reflected in this novel tends not to have an authoritarian nature but a democratic one.

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis bagaimana hierarki kebutuhan tokoh utama dalam "Sayap-Sayap Patah" tercermin melalui perjalanan karakternya. Tujuan utama penelitian ini adalah untuk memahami bagaimana kebutuhan fisik, keamanan, sosial, penghargaan, dan aktualisasi diri dalam teori Maslow tercermin dalam karakterisasi dan perkembangan tokoh utama. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan kualitatif dengan analisis naratif untuk mengeksplorasi perjalanan karakter tokoh utama. Data dianalisis secara mendalam untuk mengidentifikasi pencapaian Salma dalam setiap tingkatan hierarki kebutuhan Maslow. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa Salma mengalami transformasi yang kompleks dalam memenuhi kebutuhan psikologisnya sepanjang cerita. Abstract:
This study examines the representation of women in the short stories Madj'u Al-Urus by Khalil Ghibran and Qissatul Fathiyyah Al-Misriyyah by Nawal As-Sa'dawi. The approach used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research is a comparative literature study with the help of feminism theory as the analytical knife. The results of this study are the self-image of women from the physical aspect depicted in the short story Fathiyyah Al-Misriyyah, a woman who has grown up is shown to experience changes in herself, namely biologically, namely being able to get pregnant, give birth and breastfeed. Meanwhile, in the short story Madj'u Al-'Urus, women are described as someone who likes to show off their body shape. In terms of the psychological aspect, women are weak figures, they experience acts of violence that make them look like crazy people. Meanwhile, Kahlil Gibran did not explain in detail the consequences of the violence he experienced. Based on the social aspect, women equally get help from other people.

Women and emancipation are two things that can not be separated, both are like two sides of the same coin. One form of women's emancipation is a freedom of determining a spouse. This research aims to describe the several forms of women's freedom of determining a spouse in short story of Kahlil Gibran entitled Wardah Al-Hānī based on literary sociology theory of Rene Wellek and Austin Warren. The methodology used to realize that aim is descriptive qualitative. The results reveal that women's freedom of determining a spouse is divided into two perspectives, one relates to the opinion of the character in a story and other determined by his behaviors. In the first side, the character has an opinion that the real happiness in the life only can be brought by love. So, she must choose the man she loved. And in another side, the women's freedom is shown by the way she left her legal husband and went to the other beloved man to make her happiness life.
