Abstract:
AbstractIn this article I argue that behind the Kairos Document (KD) there is Luke's kairos or at least his view of it, which the kairos theologians did not take cognisance of Had they attempted an exegesis of Luke 19:41-44, whose spirit is partly reflected in the KD, it would have become clear that Luke's view of a kairos points back to the liberating moment of Jesus, yet forward to the consequences of missing that moment. Thus the kairos is intended for both supporters and opponents of Jesus. The new South Africa needs the positive dimension of the kairos which might provide a socio-political vision in the present context, hence the use of a contextual exegesis approach in this article.

Abstract:
Vatican II represented a fresh start for studies in missiology and ecumenical theology. Especially its call to contextualize and rethink old theological dogmas was well received in many churches in Latin America and Africa that were involved in a process of liberation from old colonial structures. In South Africa the church struggle resulted in the formulation of the Kairos document in 1985. It has since inspired theologians in Palestine/Israel to formulate a Palestinian Kairos document in 2009. In both documents the concepts of reconciliation and restorative justice are used to express interrelated realities. A group of international theologians marked the 500 year of the Reformation by publishing a declaration in January 2017 in Wittenberg, Germany, in line with the two Kairos documents. This shows that in missiology and ecumenical theology new theological inspiration is now coming from the Global South, thereby challenging the Western churches to take a stand in the on-going conflict in Palestine/Israel.

Abstract:
The theology of a people is in part a product of their history, but is also influenced by current living conditions. In South Africa two different theologies have emerged as whites developed a privileged-status position and blacks were forced into an inferior status. In time this dichotomy has been questioned and today, primarily in concert, interdenominational and interethnic groups seek a solution to the problems of race in religion. The Kairos document is one such an attempt.

Abstract:
This reflection sets out to achieve three goals: the key is to show the legacy of James Cone from a global perspective, specifically his contributions to the development of African theology. The second is the irony that Cone was influenced by Karl Barth’ s Barmen declaration in his response to the outrage against blacks in the United States in the violent late 1960s. This dimension has escaped scholarly attention. Thirdly, both Cone and the Barmen declaration influenced South African theologians who scripted the Kairos Document. Each party contextualized the use of the strategy; but for all, confession served as a form of political praxis.

Abstract:
This study seeks to probe Nico Koopman’s Christological approach through the lens of the theological framework spelled out in the Kairos Document (1985), and in particular its understandings of church theology and prophetic theology, critically re-appropriated in the current socioeconomic context of South Africa. Four essential aspects of Koopman’s Christological perspective are examined: (1) the Reformed view of the lordship of Christ as the basis for the public vocation of theology; (2) Trinitarian and Christological foundations of human dignity; (3) Jesus as the epitome of divine and human vulnerability, and (4) the organic connection between the threefold office of Christ and the public calling of the church. In conclusion, I argue that Koopman’s Christ, albeit displaying an African veneer, upon scrutiny, appears to be unfamiliar with and unconcerned about the problems faced by most South Africans today, and thereby fails to constructively engage with African (especially black African) contexts of our day. This is due to four major factors, namely (a) Koopman’s choices regarding theological references; (b) his cursory and un-nuanced treatment of African theological notions; (c) his a-pathetic mode of theologising; and (d) his inability (or lack of willingness) to engage with structural (especially macro-economic) issues. I further suggest that my conclusions concerning Koopman’s “global Reformed Christ” may be (at least tentatively) extrapolated into a number of approaches developed by South African theologians under the umbrella of “public theology”. I also point to some promising (prophetically-loaded) insights coming from the chosen public theologians, including Koopman himself, as a way of illustrating the tension between civic spirit and public anger, inherent in this mode of theologising.

Abstract:
AbstractIn this article James C. Okoye first speaks about inculturation as the mutual transformation of culture and understandings of the gospel. He then outlines some aspects of the inculturation process as it has been employed in Africa in the last four decades.. In a brief historical overview, Okoye speaks of three stages of inculturation in Africa: the stage of indigenization and adaptation, the stage of inculturation and liberation and the stage of contextualization. The rest of the article is devoted to outlining inculturation efforts in two crucial areas for African theology: salvation and christology. Salvation for Africans is more physical and ecclesial than spiritual and individualistic. A plurality of christological approaches exist in African and perhaps can be characterized as comparative, as systematic, as formed by the theology of liberation, and as arising from communal experience. Professor Okoye concludes with a brief overview of the Kairos Document from South Africa.

Forster, Dion. "A state church? A consideration of the Methodist Church of Southern Africa in the light of Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s ‘Theological position paper on state and church’." STJ | Stellenbosch Theological Journal 2, no. 1 (July 30, 2016): 61. http://dx.doi.org/10.17570/stj.2016.v2n1.a04.

Abstract:
This article considers whether South Africa’s largest mainline Christian denomination, the Methodist Church of Southern Africa, is in danger of embodying or propagating a contemporary form of ‘state theology’. The notion of state theology in the South African context gained prominence through the publication of the ‘Kairos Document’ (1985) – which celebrated its thirtieth anniversary in 2015. State theology is deemed inappropriate and harmful to the identity and work of both the Christian church and the nation state. This article presents its consideration of whether the Methodist Church of Southern Africa is in danger of propagating ‘state theology’ in dialogue with Dietrich Bonhoeffer’s important document, <i>Theological Position Paper on State and Church</i>. The article offers some insights into the complex relationship between the state and the church in South Africa in the apartheid and democratic eras. It further problematizes the relationship between the Methodist Church of Southern Africa and the governing African National Congress by citing some concerning examples of complicit behaviour from recent history. The MCSA’s polity and doctrine on church and state relationships are also considered before some critique and warning is offered in the light of Bonhoeffer’s <i>Theological Position Paper on State and Church</i>.

Abstract:
AbstractBonhoeffer's latter prison letters contained radical questions about his church's theology in its approach to the secularization (or coming-of-age) of post-Enlightenment Western society. These led him to a burst of remarkable theological exploration in his desire to 'go right back to the beginnings' and try to produce a christologically-based 'non-religious interpretation of biblical concepts'. Here we attempt to follow his exploratory ideas, unworked out as they are, and look for links with the present South African scene: first, the theological scene with its question whether this is the moment for a new Kairos Document and, second, the more general scene in which black intellectuals in particular have been challenged to help awaken the vision and practice of ubuntu (the concept of fullness of being-in-relatedness) – which is too important an objective to be treated in merely socio-political terms. Can Bonhoeffer's legacy, then, encourage fruitful discussion between Christian theology and the proposed intellectual discourse?

Abstract:
Facebook’s goal for their “News Feed is to show everyone the right content at the right time so they don’t miss the stories that are important to them.” In a mediated environment obsessed with real-time–of near instantaneous content production and delivery–the question of what constitutes right-time has curiously been overlooked. In this article, I argue that the notion of right-time presented in the above mission statement is reflective not just of Facebook’s algorithmic workings but also of a new temporal regime produced by an increasingly algorithmic media landscape. The article draws on social theory, media studies, and rhetoric, as well as a variety of empirical materials such as patent documents, media industry documents and public discourse to argue for the existence of an “Eigenzeit” of algorithmic media that hinges on the classic Greek notion of “kairos,” understood as an opportune time, timeliness, or indeed, “right-time.”

Abstract:
With reference to educational documents and articles of scholars and teachers-practitioners, this arti-cle analyzes the tendencies and problems of the alternation of the assessment of pupils’ achievements and progress in primary school in the plane of education reform; the aim is also to reveal the input of Lithuanian scholars and teachers-practitioners on purpose of creating a new system of assessment. The analysis of the stages of education reform demonstrated that all stages emphasize the necessity to democratize pupils’ as-sessment system with a gradual transition towards idiographic assessment and a refusal to assess primary school children with marks. In response to the requirements of the education reform, in 1998–2004 the scholars gave most attention to a theoretical grounding of the assessment of pupils’ progress. In the third stage of Lithuanian education reform (2003–2008) methodical articles prevail which offer various versions of assessment, achievement books, whereas the attention of the scholars towards the system of assessment is decreasing. With reference to this, we make an assumption that the removal of scholars in the third stage of the reform was the main reason for teachers and students to be unsatisfied with the modern system of as-sessment. Key words: primary education, pupils’ learning achievements, progress, assessment, alternation of the as-sessment.

Abstract:
Chronicles from Majnun until Layla is a film project structured in three stages: 1.) The Museum of Modern Iranian History (2011–2013), 2.) Layla and Majnun (in preparation), and 3.) The Film (in preparation). Each stage bears its own approach, format, and mode of presentation. The first two stages are conceived as preparation for the third and final stage: the merging moment, which will be in the form of a feature-length, hybrid fiction/documentary film. The film depicts a couple, lovers, visiting a virtual museum of modern Iranian history. The lovers appear both as themselves and as “Layla and Majnun,” characters adapted from a classical Middle Eastern love tale. As they walk the museum, the couple engages in dialogue about their individual and collective stories, memories, dreams, rages, and desires. The lovers' affairs and conversations interact with the representations of the major historical moments of Iran being documented in the museum. In Stage 1, through the museum's architectural design and references to an official Iranian narrative taken from a high-school textbook, the various historical periods of Iran get transformed into Kairos (the Now), contradicting Chronos and scientific and analytical historiography.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Today airlines are challenging two opposite goals: minimization of flight fuel consumption and minimization of elapsed flight time. A well‐known cost structure and cost generators represent significant pre‐conditions for defining cost optimization strategy in an airline company. Airline company management has a limited set of tools for cost managing, which include the following documents: Performance Engineers’ Manual and Aircraft Flight Manual. In this particular paper review we discuss the problem of vertical flight path of turbo‐fan aircraft, where we point out the impact of the choice of climb technique on the overall en route flight profile costs. In temporary aircraft flight preparation process, there is no stressing out the significance of the climb phase in minimizing costs of this particular flight phase. In the paper we show the procedure of defining optimal climbing resulting minimum costs, but also optimal function operational adjustment to the climb schedule. This way of the approximation of optimal function and its adjustment to the operational use enables the application of minimal cost climbing technique in operational use of transportation aircraft. On short‐haul flights, climb phase can reduce cruise flight length up to 60% of total range. In the paper, we show the impact of climb regime on flight profile of turbo‐fan aircraft considering the usage of time, fuel and costs. The impact is shown according to the data taken from the Performance Engineers Manual. The impact stresses the importance of minimum costs climbing regime to cutting down total flight costs. It also shows the conditions which need to be fulfilled in order to apply minimum costs climbing technique. We identify the scope of CAS speed during climb and TOC for flights minimum total expenses by using minimum costs climbing technique. Conditions for achieving minimum costs climbing technique are the results of the logarithmic differential. In order to achieve optimal numerical results we used Newton‐Raphson formula.

Abstract:
Houses from natural or recycled materials, heated by natural energy represent green building or sustainable architecture. In the wider context, the conception of ecology is applicable not only for a separate house, but also for the all town planning and architecture. This article is meant to describe several relevant ways to implement sustainable development in the historical territories of Lithuanian cities by seeking for a dialog between contemporary needs and the policy of sustainability. In 2008 the European Union has initiated a purposeful document – “2030 Heritage Strategy”. There is declared a holistic preservation of vital cultural heritage and its surroundings by comprehending, controlling, conserving and restoring it properly and promoting the appreciation of heritage as a cultural treasure of all the urban community. The document encourages arranging and reusing the existing buildings by invoking the innovative technologies. There are a lot of deserted, unused buildings in the historical territories of Lithuanian cities. First thing that should be done is to give the status of revitalization priority zone for the territories of historical surrounding. The revitalization would proceed by reaching for the balance between preservation of the existing resources and inserting new functions and elements. Obviously, the notification of revitalization zone will not take an effect itself – the changes have to be initiated. Therefore the governance of revitalization zones is so important. The specific field that waits impatiently for a “green” treatment is the old wooden houses of Lithuanian cities and towns. People often forget that a timber house, though not new, is itself a base of healthy microclimate. There would be enough to take care of suitable ways of heating and trimming and we would have an ecologic house. This would open a new field for architects’ activity. In 2011 by the support of Kaunas City Municipality there has been started a database of Kaunas wooden architecture, which can already be used through a website (www.archimede.lt). Here a professional documentation of wooden architecture is being accumulated. It is expected that through this website the information will reach the house owners, administration of subdistricts and municipalities and gradually the understanding of the value of wooden architecture will be developed. We think that an educative support could grow into particular social solidarity program: people would share their knowledge and experience and a community interested in preservation of wooden houses would come into being.

Abstract:
The article shows I. P. Lvov, сhairman of the Department for pedagogy of Chernihiv Pedagogical Institute. I. P. Lvov worked as the Head of the Department of Pedagogy from 1952 to 1958. He developed didactic materials on pedagogy, logic and psychology. The curriculum for the second semester was analyzed, where the main tasks were students' educational work, advanced training of teachers and realization of рublic works under the teachers. At the faculty meeting, the lecturers approved the Individual work plans of the members of the department, monitoring the lectures and pedagogical lessons from the point of view of scientific and methodological execution, control over the work of a laboratory assistant, review and approval of the work plan of pedagogical practice of students. I. P. Lviv had intended to purchase a separate room for conducting psychological experiments. Unfortunately, the intention failed for unknown reasons. He controlled the quality of lectures and seminars on pedagogy, lectures on psychology, and reported on the visit by the directorate of the institute and individual members of the chair they reviewed. In 1952, a pedagogical circle was formed at the department of pedagogy. I. P. Lviv was group leader of the circle at one of the meetings read a report "Modern problems of restructuring the science of psychology in the academician I. P. Pavlov". I. P. Lviv appreciated the work of the laboratory assistant of the department of G. P. Svirid, pointing to her faithful discharge of her duties: providing students with educational and recommended literature. The content of the documents of I. P. Lvov on an administrative post was analyzed and he was found that he made some comments in the report at the meeting of the pedagogy department of the Chernihiv Pedagogical Institute, as well as at the meeting of the Institute council concerning the issues that were in the report "On the condition of pedagogical science and eliminating its backlog" on the resolution of I. A. Kairov. In 1955 I. P. Lvov was the head of the commission on State examinations of the correspondence department of the Russian language and literature of the Chernihiv Pedagogical Institute. Analysis of students' answers in pedagogy, according to I. P. Lvov, showed that most were positive answers, but some students had satisfactory grades, they did not possess good material in pedagogy.

Abstract:
The relation between macroeconomic variables and the movement of stock prices has well been documented in the literature over the last several decades. It is often argued that stock prices are determined by some fundamental macroeconomic variables. Therefore, macroeconomic variables can influence investment decisions and motivates many researchers to investigate the relation between stock market prices and macroeconomic variables. The current paper attempts to introduce the concepts of stock market and macroeconomic indicators, then to present a model of the impact of macroeconomic indicators on stock market index, and to define what macroeconomic indicators are related with stock market index in the short and long runs. The study investigates ten macroeconomic indicators and the main Baltic stock market indices. The data are monthly and extend from the January of 2000 to the December of 2008. Empirical research has been conducted with the Baltic States: Lithuania, Latvia, and Estonia. With the reference to the results of performed analysis the interpretations of the relationships between macroeconomic indicators and stock market index from the viewpoint of investors have been formed.

Abstract:
Abstract: The main problems in this research are (1) public perception of price rounding in buying and selling transactions at Indomaret minimarkets; (2) Islam's view about replacing the remaining purchase money with sweets at Indomaret minimarket. In this study the authors used a type of field research, the design used was qualitative research that is research producing data in the form of written or oral words from people who could be observed. This research raises facts. There are two data sources that researchers use, namely primary data sources and secondary data sources. The primary data source is data directly taken from the object of the researcher, namely the Indomaret cashier and the customer. The primary data source is derived from field data obtained from observations and interviews. Secondary data sources are data taken in the form of Indomaret documents. The results of the study showed that most people accepted price rounding on the grounds that they were accustomed but there were still a small number of people who felt dissatisfied and disagreed if the price rounding practice was carried out. If in the fulfillment of the remaining money of this purchase there is a buyer who feels less willing, he can choose to keep abreast of what the seller says or cancel the sale and purchase. The Islamic view of replacing the rest of the money with candy is allowed to see the scarcity of small change so that the manager of Indomaret provides candy instead. This gave rise to the rule of one rule which reads "the existence of difficulties raises the existence of ease". The abilities and potentials of people in carrying the law differ, so that a way to avoid difficulties is needed by avoiding legal exceptions. Keywords: Community Perception, Price Rounding, Islamic Sharia, Minimarket Indomaret. Kata Kunci : Persepsi Masyarakat, Pembulatan Harga, Syari’at Islam, Minimarket Indomaret.DAFTAR PUSTAKAAbdul Hakim, Atang. "Tamibarotene As Maintenance Therapy for Acute Promyelocytic Leukemia Improved Long Term Relapse-Free Survival: 7-Year Results from a Randomized Controlled Trial, JALSG-APL204." Abstract:
Abstract Background: Tamibarotene, a new synthetic retinoid, displays (i) approximately 10-fold increased potency over ATRA at inducing in vitro differentiation of NB-4 cells (ii) enhanced chemical stability compared with ATRA (iii) low affinity for cellular RA-binding protein. The clinical efficacy of tamibarotene for the treatment of acute promyelocytic leukemia (APL) has also been reported. A prospective randomized controlled study to evaluate tamibarotene by comparison to ATRA was carried out for maintenance therapy of APL in JALSG APL204 (Shinagawa et al, 2014). The 4-year-relapse free survival (RFS) did not differ between patients treated with ATRA or tamibarotene. However, an improved efficacy of tamibarotene in high-risk patients was suggested, which warrants further investigation. Here, we evaluate the long-term outcome of the study. Patients and Methods: Patients enrolled in this study were newly diagnosed with APL and documented cytogenetic and/or molecular evidence of t(15;17)/ PML-RARA . The age of the patients ranged between 15 and 70 years and the ECOG performance status was between 0 and 3. For remission induction therapy, ATRA was administered to all patients at a daily dose of 45 mg/m2 until complete remission (CR). The chemotherapy protocol varied depending on the initial leukocyte count and blast count in the peripheral blood. In brief, patient groups were defined as: leukocytes &lt; 3,000/µl (Group A: ATRA alone), 3,000/µl ≤ leukocytes &lt; 10,000/µl (Group B: ATRA plus IDA/Ara-C: 2+5), and leukocytes ≥ 10,000/µl (Group C: ATRA plus IDA/Ara-C: 3+5). Those patients who experienced leukocytosis received additional chemotherapy (Group D). Patients who achieved molecular remission after consolidation chemotherapy were randomly assigned to 2 groups of maintenance therapy, and administered tamibarotene at a daily dose of 6 mg/m2 divided into 2 doses for 14 days or ATRA at a daily dose of 45 mg/m2 divided into 3 doses for 14 days. Each cycle of treatment was repeated every 3 months for 2 years. The primary endpoint was hematological or molecular relapse-free survival (RFS) during the maintenance and follow up period. This study is registered at the University Hospital Medical Information Network Clinical Trials Registry as C000000154. Results: A total of 347 patients were enrolled in the study. Of the 344 eligible patients, 319 (93%) achieved CR. After completing three courses of consolidation therapy, 269 patients underwent maintenance random assignment; 135 patients were assigned to ATRA, and 134 patients were assigned to tamibarotene. The mean follow-up of patients alive and relapse-free at the date of last contact was 7 years. The 7-year RFS rate was 84% for the ATRA arm and 93% for the tamibarotene arm (p=0.031) (Fig.1). When the analysis was restricted to 52 high-risk patients with an initial leukocyte count ≥ 10,000/µl, the difference was more prominent (62% vs 89%, p=0.034) (Fig.2). The 7-year RFS of induction treatment for Group A (92 cases) was 91%, Group B (38 cases) 92%, Group C (52 cases) 75% and Group D (87 cases) 91% (p=0.005). Both treatments were generally well tolerated. Secondary hematopoietic disorders were observed in 12 cases, malignancies in 9 cases, late cardiac complications (grade 3 or more) in 5 cases. However, there was no significant difference in terms of these complications between the two treatment groups. Conclusions: Maintenance therapy with tamibarotene was effective at decreasing the relapse rate in APL patients by comparison to ATRA at the 7-year observation point. In particular, tamibarotene was significantly more effective than ATRA for high risk patients with leukocytes ≧10,000/μl. These results could lead to a new strategy for the treatment of high risk patients, which is one of the recent priority issues in the treatment of APL. Black Theology and South Africa's kairós South Africa's Black Theology must be seen as a local contextual theology, but with roots in al least the American Black Theology, Latin American Liberation Theology as well as African Theology. After dealing with these roots, and the different trends in Black Theology, this theology is related to the Kairos Document of September 1985. The conclusion is that this Document can be regarded as the latest and clearest expression of Black Theology. As such it is a formidable challenge to the church and conventional theology.

Abstract:
The thirtieth anniversary of the publication of the Kairos Document was celebrated in August 2015. This was the most radical of several theological declarations issued by Christians during the struggle against apartheid. Arguing that theology itself had become a site of that struggle, it rejected ‘state theology’, which gave legitimacy to apartheid, and ‘church theology’ which promoted reconciliation without justice as its pre-requisite. Against these, it presented a ‘prophetic theology’ as a challenge to the churches in response to what was perceived as a kairos moment. Since then the Kairos Document has inspired a global movement in which its social analysis and understanding of prophetic theology has been adopted in a variety of contexts, most notably in the Kairos-Palestine Document (2009). In reflecting on the significance of this global kairos movement, I firstly examine the meaning of ‘prophecy’ and ‘prophetic theology’, arguing that ‘prophetic theology’ is in continuity with the message of the Hebrew prophets and the ministry and mission of Jesus. Secondly, I examine the use of the term kairos to describe historical turning points which demand such a prophetic theological response. Thirdly, I address the need for an ecumenical prophetic ecclesiology that foregrounds the responsibility of the church to discern and understand those God-given kairos moments in history that demand a prophetic response.

Abstract:
Nowadays, the common way to transmit cultural heritage is under its digital form. The digital document suffers from a technological and cultural gap, its integrity and cultural meaning disappearing over time. We show that restoring the document intelligibility is possible through a redocumentation approach. The digital heritage document is processed into an annotational artefact, which uses the web of data as an experimental source of linked and open knowledge. We build the artefact through a double process. On the first hand, a semiotic study of digital heritage documents allows us to understand a universal interpretation path while watching a cultural archive. On the second hand, we convert the results of the semiotic study into ergonomic and editorial recommendations for the annotational device. Considering its patrimonial positioning, the artefact emphasises an editorial tension between memory and oblivion. Then, we examine the device conception environment, its editorial features and its associated prescriptive issues. This paper highlights two aspects: a situational analysis of the current semio-technological doctoral research, and an original hindsight of the editorial project through memory and oblivion concepts mobilized in a digital environment.

Cultural objects created through digital technologies (literary works, documents, media…), due to their physical fragility, are threatened by obsolescence and disappearance. In order to prevent the permanent loss of these objects, conceptors use descriptive markers to ensure their long-term preservation. Among such markers, a variety of metadata – technical, legal, document or archival metadata – constitute a characteristic component of digital preservation. This article examines the consequences, in terms of memory and loss, by considering the nature and specificity of digital documents as well as emergent practices such as "digital remix".

AbstractOn 11 October 1947 Paul Tillich conducted the wedding service of Dankwart Rüstow and Rahel Löwe. He gave the church’s blessing to the son and daughter of two friends, Alexander Rüstow and Adolf Löwe, whom he had known since his time as a Privatdozent in Berlin. Both had been involved to different degrees in the Kairos-Circle which had formed around Tillich immediately after the First World War. The sermon, which was unknown for a long time, is published here in a critical edition together with a historical introduction. Tillich makes use of two key concepts, ‘scattering’ and ‘re-unifying’ to illustrate marriage as a sign of the Exile.

Abstract:
Starting with the Barmen Declaration of 1934, a new desire to confess the Christian faith in situations of political tension erupted worldwide, resulting in the formulation of new confessional statements. In South Africa a number of declarations and testimonies emanated from the struggle against apartheid. Not all these confessional statements had the same character and impact. The author of this article concentrates on the three most important documents which may have been influenced by Barmen: The Message to the People of South Africa (1968), the Belhar Confession (1982) and the Kairos Document (1985/6. He also refers to several other statements, including the document Geloof en protes (1987), which subscribes to apartheid as a matter of faith. The author concludes with a few critical remarks from a Calvinist point of view.

Abstract:
Mercy Amba Oduyoyes untitled poem about a circle sets the context for the renewal of the legacy of The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians (The Circle) at a time when The Circle seems to be moving in circles of uncertainty lacking a clear unified focus. Oduyoye describes a circle as eternal, expansive, evolving and sustained by self-critique, accountability, inclusiveness and connectedness to the reality around it. This continuous movement is expressed in the concept of SankofaKairos which is rooted in the past and radically responsive to the present. This backwardforward theological method is critical for The Circle to remain true to its mission as a liberating theological and cultural voice for women and other oppressed groups. In contemporary contexts where oppression is pervasive and includes all groups, an inclusive gender paradigm as well as accountability to oppressed groups is critical for the renewal of The Circle. Trinitarian theology provides a model for liberating relationships characterised by equality, difference, mutuality, communion and oneness. Thus, it will be argued that Trinitarian theology provides theological resources for SankofaKairos theologies for The Circle that will be inclusive and accountable to all oppressed groups. This will contribute to the restoration of The Circle as a critical contributor to liberation theologies in Africa.Intradisciplinary and/or interdisciplinary implications: This article proposes SankofaKairos methodology based on the dual legacies of The Circle of Concerned African Women Theologians and The Kairos Document as the starting point for developing accountable and inclusive liberation theologies rooted in Social Models of the Trinity that could respond to the multiple challenges emerging from the African context. Keywords: Sankofa; Kairos; gender; African-women theologies; accountability;inclusivity; masculinities

Abstract:
This contribution is derived from a more extensive 2018 PhD study in which the contested nature of the discourses on reconciliation is explored. It provides a conceptual analysis of how reconciliation is understood in the Kairos Document (1985). Regarded as an outstanding example of a theological response to the problem of apartheid, what is often overlooked is the tension implicit in its approach which, in turn, has serious implications for how matters of social justice are understood and acted upon. Here, the need for political, economic and cultural liberation is emphasised. It is assumed that social justice can only follow upon liberation, and that reconciliation is only possible on the basis of following justice. In this contribution, I contend that those who take this approach are confronted with the danger of self-secularisation, of reducing the Christian confession to nothing more than an example of religious affiliation that may be tolerated as long as its particular claims are not foregrounded. The obvious danger, as may be the case with the Kairos Document, is one of being socially relevant without having anything distinct to offer. This, in turn, has serious implications for how its history and significance are approached pedagogically.

Abstract:
The Uniting Reformed Church in Southern Africa (URCSA) was formed in 1994 as a merger between the former Dutch Reformed Mission Church (DRMC) and the Dutch Reformed Church in Africa (DRCA). URCSA, as the bearer of the Belhar Confession, has always stood within the tradition of Prophetic Theology. This article upholds the presuppositions that the prophetic nature of Black Liberation Theology impacted on the reasoning of the authors of various anti-apartheid documents like the theological declarations of the Belydendekring and Alliance of Black Reformed Christians in Southern Africa (ABRECSA), the Kairos Document and Belhar Confession; and with the advent of our democracy, URCSA not only lost her Kairos conscience but parted with Prophetic Theology—hence the title of this paper. Issues like state capture, corruption, the expropriation of land without compensation, poverty, racism, and so forth are all issues plaguing our young democracy and require a clear theological response. This article argues for renewed acquaintance from the church, URCSA, with Prophetic Theology, which will enable the church to not only speak prophetically but to challenge the status quo. Prophetic Theology is much better prepared to engage with the challenges posed in post-apartheid South Africa because it is grounded in a hope that is unprepared to accept the world as it is.

Abstract:
The ‘Protest’ and ‘Confessing’ Models in the streams of Black Theology of liberation provide a creative link between the Prophetic Theology in the Kairos document (KD) and the Black Theology of liberation. Launched in a distinct moment of history – an ‘opportune moment’ – the KD propagated the best responses among some and the worst among others as a rapturous critique of State and Church theologies. In this article, I argued that the KD, which remains a version of liberation theology par excellence, offers a methodology that is still appropriate to our democratisation processes in South Africa. The KD is the product of a theology that did not only expand the contours of traditional theology, but also understood confession as a political praxis. Thus, the interest of the poor should still mitigate forth-telling in our democratic vision in dialogue inspired by the alluring prophetic vision of an alternative community based on the principles of the reign of God.

The interrelationship between church and state: Some theological models with reference to the right to revolt against the state In this paper consideration is given to the theological models concerning the relation church and state, as accepted by the Roman Catholic Church, Luther, Calvin, Karl Barth and the theologies with a revolutionary inclination like the Political Theology, Theology of Liberation, Revolutionary Theology and the Kairos Document. The right to revolt against the state, as perceived within each model, is also dealt with.

Abstract:
Liberation theology can only be understood as a pseudo-theology inspired by the spirit of Marx. It is not a bona fide or leg itimate theology, but the polar opposite thereof. Its destructive aims mirror those of Marxism, which can only be understood if the demonic spirit of Marx is seen as its real origin. The Kairos Document and the Road to Damascus replaced the biblical God with the anti-god of Marx, the deified proletariat and the deified revolution. The article calls for a reconversion to God who revealed himself in Jesus Christ of Scriptures. Orthodox theology is truly ‘thisworldly’ theology, since it offers real hope and salvation. The Marxist gospel can only offer a utopia, a ‘no-place’. It is self-alienating, world-aUenating and God-alienating.

Abstract:
In the article the view that was expressed in, inter alia, the Kairos Document, that the prophetic and reformist approaches in Christian Ethics exclude one another, was challenged. A case was argued against this view by drawing on Reinhard Kratz’s book on the latest research findings on prophecy in the Old Testament, James Gustafson’s distinction of four modes of moral discourse and Walter Brueggemann’s view that prophetic texts are acts of imagination that offer and purpose ‘alternative worlds’. The conclusion was that the prophetic and reformist approaches rather complement, overlap and interpenetrate one another. In the last part of the article an argument was presented that both of the two approaches can be accommodated and integrated in a Christian ethics of responsibility.

Abstract:
In September 2018 John de Gruchy presented a paper at the Volmoed Colloquium entitled “Revisiting the Message to the people of South Africa,” in which he asks, “what is the significance of the document for our time?” In this expanded version of the author’s response to de Gruchy, two further questions are pursued: First: how can the churches today meet the challenge of today’s global system of economically and politically-driven inequality driven by a constellation of individuals, corporations, and governments? Second: in his review of church history, de Gruchy focused on the issue of church theology described in the 1985 Kairos South Africa document, in which churches use words that purport to support justice but actually serve to shore up the status quo of discrimination, inequality and racism. How does church theology manifest in the contemporary global context, and what is the remedy? The author proposes that ecumenism can serve as a mobilizing and organizing model for church action, and that active engagement in the issue of Palestine is an entry point for church renewal and for a necessary and fruitful exploration of critical issues in theology and ecclesiology.

Abstract:
The stimulation of the modern transformation processes by the church and the opportunity this presents to industrial mission The church had reacted to both political and industrial change. Localised theology was the answer to a restricted political dispensation, and the final result was the application of liberation theology. The Kairos Document, the Evangelical Witness, the Belhar Confession and Church and Society express the different churches’ viewpoints about the apartheid regime. This contextual focus on the same political dispensation unleashed church influence during the establishment of a national democratic dispensation. The different efforts to deal with industrial change by means of church renewal have finally paved the way for the development of a new industrial mission, vision and approach. This has resulted in the forming of an interchurch industrial organisation, and far-reaching possibilities within the industrial environment.
