Abstract:

In the offset V-bunionectomy used for hallux valgus repair, both the Kalish and the Vogler variations have a long dorsal arm, but the apex is more distal in the Kalish procedure. This study investigated the effect that pin orientation and location of the osteotomy apex have on weightbearing stability. The authors studied saw bone models that were loaded to failure in an Instron 4201 materials testing machine and, in addition, designed, fabricated, and used a unique jig assembly to help minimize data variability. Statistically significant differences were found between the surgical techniques and pin orientations: the Kalish osteotomy was stronger than the Vogler procedure, and in both osteotomies, the plantarly directed Kirschner wire orientation was stronger than the dorsally directed orientation. Abstract:

One of the hallmarks of the written history of nursing is the idea that the apprenticeship system of nurses’ training, lasting from the 1870s through the 1930s, was characterized by exploitation. “Emergencies and understaffing” dictated the training of nurses, according to Susan Reverby, because “the demands of the hospital for a work force meant that pupils’ education was continually sacrificed to the exigencies of hospital work” (1987: 64–65; also see Kalisch and Kalisch 1986).

This paper reviews the common pitfalls associated with this procedure, including failure to observe the indications for the procedure, technical failures when performing the procedure, and the most frequent postoperative complications.

Pagrindinė problema eksploatuojant žvyrkelius – didelis jų dulkėtumas sausuoju metų periodu. Lietuvoje dulkėtumui mažinti dažniausia naudojama bituminė emulsija ir kalcio chloridas. Straipsnyje pateikiami dulkėtumo tyrimai, atlikti 2007–2008 m. apdorotame kalcio chloridu žvyrkelio Veisiejai–Viktarinas–Paliepiai ruože. Išanalizuotas kalcio chlorido efektyvumas, mažinant žvyrkelio dulkėtumą, kuris priklausomai nuo įvairių sąlygų buvo 15–45 %.

Abstract:

Reikšminiai žodžiai: hipokalcemija, pirminis hipoparatiroidizmas, ilgas QT intervalas, parkinsonizmas. Hipokalcemija kliniškai pasireiškia nervų ir raumenų sistemų simptomais: tetanija, traukuliais, laringospazmu, aritmijomis, sunkina širdies nepakankamumą. Viena hipokalcemijos priežasčių yra pirminis hipoparatiroidizmas ‒ retas endokrininis sutrikimas, kuriam būdinga hipokalcemija, hiperfosfatemija ir maža parathormono (PTH) koncentracija kraujyje. Hipokalcemiją taip pat gali sukelti pseudohipoparatiroidizmas, kai PTH koncentracija normali ar padidėjusi, vitamino D trūkumas, ūminis ir lėtinis inkstų nepakankamumas, pankreatitas, įvairūs medikamentai. Pristatomas paciento, kuriam diagnozuota simptominė hipokalcemija dėl pirminio hipoparatiroidizmo, klinikinis atvejis. Kliniškai stebėtas traukulių priepuolis, galvos smegenų EEG registruotas epileptiforminis aktyvumas, EKG ‒ ilgas QT intervalas, o galvos smegenų KT buvo nustatyti kalcinatai pamato branduolių ir smegenėlių srityse, galimai sukėlę parkinsonizmo simptomus. Skyrus gydymą kalcio gliukonatu į veną, o vėliau koreguojant hipokalcemiją kalcio karbonatu ir alfakalcidoliu, paciento būklė ženkliai pagerėjo, traukuliai nesikartojo, tačiau išlaikyti normalią kalcio koncentraciją kraujyje buvo sudėtinga, EKG išliko ilgas QT intervalas. Pacientas konsultuotas endokrinologo, diagnozuotas pirminis hipoparatiroidizmas. Tolesniam gydymui rekomenduota tęsti kalcio preparatų ir alfakalcidolio vartojimą, ambulatoriškai monitoruoti kalcio ir fosforo koncentraciją kraujyje.

This new procedure provides a relative reduction of the intermetatarsal angle and corrects the proximal articular set angle, yet incorporates the principles of compressive rigid internal fixation. Abstract:

Currently, depositing municipal waste in landfills is the dominating method in Lithuania. A large amount of landfill leachate is the main environmental problem. Municipal waste landfill leachate is characterized by high biochemical oxygen demand (BOD) containing a number of heavy metals and concentration of organic compounds. The colmatation of landfill leachate collection systems is another burning problem that occurs due to certain characteristics of leachate such as suspended solids, an increase in calcium and magnesium concentrations and vital activity of microorganisms. Therefore, it is necessary to examine conditions affecting these parameters. The paper presents and analyses the characteristics of experimental data, assesses the factors having the greatest influence on recent development and introduces the measures that should be taken into account so that to the ensure optimal operation of the systems for collecting municipal waste landfill leachate. Article in Lithuanian. Santrauka Pagrindinis atliekų tvarkymo būdas Lietuvoje yra jų deponavimas sąvartynuose. Viena iš svarbiausių aplinkosauginių problemų – dideli susidarantys sąvartyno filtrato kiekiai. Komunalinių atliekų sąvartynų filtratui būdinga didelis biocheminio deguonies suvartojimas (BDS), filtrate taip pat nemažà sunkiųjų metalų bei organinių junginių koncentracija. Svarbu išskirti ir tokią problemą kaip sąvartyno filtrato surinkimo sistemų kolmatacija, pasireiškianti dėl tam tikrų filtrato savybių: skendinčiųjų medžiagų, kalcio ir magnio koncentracijų padidėjimo ir mikroorganizmų gyvybinės veiklos. Būtina įvertinti sąlygas, turinčias įtakos šių parametrų kitimui. Pateikti minėtų savybių eksperimentinių tyrimų duomenys ir analizė. Įvertinta, kokie veiksniai turi didžiausią įtaką filtrato parametrų kitimui, pavyzdžiui, tai, jog bendrasis kietumas (kalcis ir magnis) lemia pH didėjimą, t. y. terpės šarmėjimą. Be to, išanalizuota, kokių priemonių reikėtų imtis optimaliam komunalinių atliekų sąvartyno filtrato surinkimo sistemų veikimui užtikrinti.

Abstract:

A tatai Kálvária-dombon feltáruló alsó-jura mészkőben korábban nem azonosított dolomit testet ismertünk fel. A dolomit test egy repedés mentén jelenik meg és egy szintben a Pisznicei Mészkő réteglapjával párhuzamosan is kiterjed, így „gomba” metszetet mutat. A dolomit finom-középkristályos, és helyenként nyeregdolomit is megjelenik. A dolomittestet breccsazóna harántolja. A klasztokat több generációs fehér-szürke-sárga kalcit cementálja, amelyben zárványként apró dolomittörmelék is megfigyelhető. A dolomittest nem breccsásodott, hanem rétegződéssel párhuzamos kalciterek vágják át. Dolomit utáni kalcit pszeudomorfózát (dedolomitot) is azonosítottunk a Pisznicei Mészkő breccsazóna melletti szakaszán. A három különböző dolomit (finom-középkristályos helyettesítő dolomit, nyeregdolomit cement, törmelékes dolomit zárványok a kalcitban) valamint a később kalcittal helyettesítődött dolomit képződése is feltételezhetően ugyanahhoz a dolomitosodási eseményhez köthető. A repedés mentén áramló, esetenként réteglap mentén elszivárgó fluidum szövetromboló módon dolomitosította a mellékkőzetet. Ennek a dolomit fázisnak a törmelékét találjuk meg a breccsazónát cementáló kalcit zónái között. A dolomitosodás repedéshez kötötten ment végbe. A stabilizotóp értékek betemetődéskor végbement folyamatot valószínűsítenek. Az anyaoldat lehetett az ekkor jelenlévő pórusvíz vagy hidrotermális fluidum. A törések poszt-szediment jellege, és breccsát cementáló kalcit meteorikus eredete alapján a dolomitosodási esemény a késő-jura és késő-kréta–paleogén között mehetett végbe.

Abstract:

A study of prejudice directed toward deviant and psychiatric groups as well as toward religious and ethnic groups replicated the results reported by Richard Kalish twenty-five years ago. The deviant and psychiatric groups, including people dying from cancer and who had attempted suicide, were the recipients of more prejudice than the religious and ethnic groups. In addition, it was found that extraversion was associated with less prejudice toward almost all of the groups.

Abstract:

Introduction. The article deals with the issue of the influence of the railways built in the 1860s – 1890s in the northeast of the Don Cossack Host Region on the economic development of this region. Methods. Published reports of railway joint-stock companies and archival statistical materials, observations of contemporaries show that this influence was ambiguous. Analysis and results. Gryaz-Tsaritsyn railway, which passed through the densely populated and fertile areas of Khopyorsky and Ust-Medveditsky districts, had the most positive impact on the economy. As a result, grain and livestock production significantly increased, agricultural marketability increased, old major trade and industry centers (Uryupinskaya stanitsa) were developing and new ones (Mikhaylovka sloboda, Privokzalny khutor) appeared. At the same time, the very first Volga-Don railway was mainly transit and had no noticeable impact on the development of the surrounding area, except for Kalach terminal station. Tsaritsyn- Tikhoretsk and East-Donetsk railways passed through the sparsely populated and infertile margin of the region, far from large settlements. Their influence on the local economy at first was rather negative and led to the collapse of the traditional horse carriage. The old trade centers, Nizhne-Chirskaya stanitsa and Kalach-on-Don khutor, were put in unfavorable conditions, which led to the slowdown in their development and the outflow of goods and traders to Oblivskaya and Morozovskaya railway stations.

Abstract:

Mrkva je povrtna kultura iz porodice štitarki i izrazito je bitna u ljudskoj prehrani zbog nutritivnog sastava njezinog korijena. Minerali zastupljeni u korijenu su kalij, kalcij, željezo, fosfor i jod. Kalcij je makroelement koji u biljkama ima brojne fiziološke uloge i nalazi se u brojnim staničnim organelama: mitohondriju, kloroplastima i ribosomima. Važnost kalcija u tlu odražava se kroz utjecaj na pH tla, utječe na raspoloživost pojedinih elemenata i ima ulogu u održavanju strukture tla. Kalcij se u ljudskom organizmu najvećim dijelom nalazi u strukturi kostiju i zuba. Sudjeluje u raznim fiziološkim procesima: u kontrakciji mišićnih vlakana, prijenosu živčanih impulsa, kontroli krvnog tlaka, sprječava razvoj osteoporoze u starijoj dobi i razvoj rahitisa kod djece zajedno s vitaminom D. Potrošači nemaju mogućnost uvida u stvarni mineralni sastav povrća prilikom kupnje te je provedeno istraživanje s ciljem utvrđivanja količine kalcija u narančasto obojenom korijenu mrkve kao i usporedba rezultata s obzirom na mjesto kupnje. Uzorkovanje mrkve provodilo se na 15 prodajnih mjesta u gradu Zagrebu: 5 trgovačkih lanaca, 5 tržnica i 5 trgovina ekološkim proizvodima. Kalcij je nakon digestije koncentriranom HNO3 i HClO4 u mikrovalnoj peći određen atomskom apsorpcijskom spektrometrijom. Količina kalcija kretala se u rasponu od 0,25% do 0,57% Ca u suhoj tvari, odnosno od 22,02 do 63,35 mg Ca 100 g-1 svježe tvari. Općenito, najveće vrijednosti kalcija utvrđene su u uzorcima korijena mrkve iz trgovačkih lanaca (0,41% Ca u suhoj tvari, odnosno 41,31 mg Ca 100 g-1 svježe tvari).

Abstract:

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore how nurses make decisions to ration care or leave it undone within a clinical environment that is controlled by systems level cost containment. The authors wanted to find out what professional, personal and organisational factors contribute to that decision-making process. This work follows previous international research that explored missed nursing care using Kalisch and Williams’ MISSCARE survey. Design/methodology/approach The authors drew on the care elements used by Kalisch and Williams, asking nurses to tell us how they decided what care to leave out, the conduits for which could include delaying care during a shift, delegating care to another health professional on the same shift, handing care over to staff on the next shift or leaving care undone. Findings The findings suggest that nurses do not readily consider their accountability when deciding what care to leave or delay, instead their priorities focus on the patient and the organisation, the outcomes for which are frequently achieved by completing work after a shift. Originality/value The actions of nurses implicitly rationing care is largely hidden from view, the consequences for which potentially have far reaching effects to the nurses and the patients. An experiment was carried out at Horticulture Farm of Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh during the period from October 2018 to March 2019 to examine the effects of different bulb size viz., large size bulb (15±1 g), medium size bulb (10±1 g), small size bulb (7±1 g) on seed production of two onion varieties (Taherpuri and Kalash Nagari). Significant variation observed in both varieties for most of the parameters based on onion bulb size. The variety Kalash Nagari showed better performances compared to variety Taherpuri. After 60 days of planting, Kalash Nagari variety gave the highest plant height (55.07 cm), number of leaves (20.62), stalk length (100.78 cm), and total seed yield (630 kg ha-1), while in Taherpuri plant height, leaf number, stalk length and total seed weight were 32.21 cm, 6.93, 61.47 cm and 270 kg ha-1, respectively. Large sized bulb gave better performance compared to small sized bulb. The large sized bulb gave highest plant height (49.83 cm) and highest total seed yield (490 kg ha-1). Medium size bulb gave the seed yield (460 kg ha-1) and lowest in small size bulb (390 kg ha-1). Seed yield was significantly affected by the combined effects of variety and bulb size. Kalash Nagari onion with large sized bulb gave the highest seed yield (660 kg ha-1) and Taherpuri variety with small sized bulb gave the lowest seed yield (180 kg ha-1). SAARC J. Abstract:

One hundred seventy-two patients (265 feet) were reviewed following correction of hallux abducto valgus surgery, using the Kalish modification of the Austin bunionectomy. Fifty-three cases were followed up on an average of 2.5 years from 1986 through 1992. The statistical results support the use of this osteotomy with rigid internal fixation for the reduction of the intermetatarsal angle, hallux abductus angle, and tibial sesamoid position. Patients are weightbearing immediately and are usually back in soft shoes or sneakers 2 weeks after surgery. Surgical techniques and complications of this procedure are discussed to help surgeons use this procedure in correcting hallux abducto valgus deformities.

We calculated a new ∆R for New Zealand waters using14C dates of historic shell previously presented by McFadgen and Manning (1990), and fish otoliths dated by Kalish (1993). We obtained a new estimate of −25 ± 1514C yr. To test the accuracy of this value for correcting conventional14C marine ages, we dated shell of a variety of different species excavated at the prehistoric site of Shag Mouth, North Otago. We compared the results with a pooled mean date for terrestrial samples and calculated a local ∆R value that we found statistically indistinguishable from the new ∆R estimate for New Zealand.

Abstract:

The main task of selection programs in modern conditions of constantly changing climate is to obtain varieties that are resistant to abiotic and biotic factors, combining high potential of productivity and grain quality in the genotype. At the initial stage of the selection process, the use of varietal samples of various ecological and geographical origin remains relevant in order to create the source material. The research aim is to identify genetic sources of economically valuable traits for winter wheat breeding in the Middle Volga region. From 2016 to 2019, samples of national and foreign selection were screened. During the study of the collection material, contrasting meteorological conditions were observed. The most positive conditions for the assessment of varieties for winter hardiness and productivity were formed in 2017, and less favorable – in 2019. For all the years of research on winter hardiness and productivity, local varieties were distinguished: Povolzhskaya 86, Povolzhskaya Niva, Erythrospermum 3627, Erythrospermum 3730 (Povolzhsky NIISS). In 2016, the varieties of Don breeding center – Marathon and Severo-Donskaya-were distinguished. In 2017 the varieties showed high results showed Krasnodar research Institute of agriculture (Doca, Dmitry Viza, Zimtra), Samara ARI (Svetoch), ARI of the South-East (Kalach 60), Ukraine (Tsusperich, Manzhetiya). In 2018, the best studied indicators were varieties Moskovskaya 39 (ARI CRNZ) and varieties Zimnitsa, Yunona, Kristall (Krasnodar ARI), as well as the variety Kalach 60 selection niish South-East. In unfavorable 2019, the studied varieties included Doka (Krasnodar research Institute), Pearl of the Volga region and Victoria 95 (research Institute of the South-East). These samples were included in the laboratory's cross-breeding scheme.

To investigate the decoherence of Kondo singlet, we once again check a model, an Aharonov–Bohm interferometer with a quantum dot coupling to left–right electrodes, which is designed by Yacoby to measure phase-sensitive of a quantum dot. By employing the cluster expansion, the equations of motion of Green's functions are transformed into the corresponding equations of connected Green's functions, which contain the correlation of two conducting electrons. With the method, we show that the Kondo singlet is suppressed by phase-sensitive detection of Aharonov–Bohm interferometer. Our numerical results have provided a qualitative explanation with the anomalous features observed in an experiment by Avinun-Kalish et al. [Phys. Rev. Lett.92 (2004) 156801].

Gydytojai galėtų tai ignoruoti, jei ne pogumburio – hipofizės ašies pokyčių sukeliamos organinės komplikacijos. Šiame straipsnyje apžvelgiamos dvi reikšmingiausios – amenorėja ir osteopenija. Amenorėją sukelia sumažėjęs LH, FSH ir estrogeno kiekis, kurie atsiranda esant mažam leptino ir melatonino kiekiui kraujyje. Diagnozuojama remiantis anamneze ir hormonų kiekio tyrimais. Gydoma svorio atstatymu, taisyklingų valgymo įpročių formavimu, psichikos ligų korekcija, psichoterapija. Osteopeniją sukelia sumažėjęs estrogeno ir su maistu gaunamo kalcio kiekis. Ji diagnozuojama dvisrautės radioabsorbcitometrijos tyrimu (DEXA). Gydoma kalcio ir vitamino D papildais, pakaitine lytinių hormonų terapija, pakaitine IGF-1 terapija, bifosfonatais ir fiziniu aktyvumu. Remiantis tarptautinėmis mokslinėmis publikacijomis bei naujausia literatūra šia tema, aptarta, kaip ši problema vystosi fiziologiu lygiu, diagnostikos principai ir pateiktos rekomendacijos dėl sėkmingo gydymo metodo parinkimo. Laiku pastebėjus simptomus ir pradėjus gydymą, galima pasiekti puikių rezultatų, išsaugoti vaisingumą ir išvengti moters kūno vystymosi sutrikimų.

Abstract:

Surveying vegetation in various areas within Russia is an important link to successful management of plant genetic resources. Species and forms of wild perennial legumes and forage grasses possess complex adaptability to local environments. The aim of VIR’s collecting mission to Voronezh and Tambov Provinces in 2016 was to replenish the preserved genetic diversity of leguminous and perennial forage crops with samples of interest for breeding for fodder and seed productivity and resistance to limiting environmental factors. The task of the collecting mission was to explore the territory and collect seeds of wild perennial forage and leguminous plants. The exploration route and collecting sites are indicated on the map. Geographical coordinates and descriptions of habitats were recorded for 38 collecting sites. During the survey of fourteen districts in Voronezh Province and two districts in Tambov Province, 169 plant samples were collected, including 140 forage plant accessions (33 species) and 29 leguminous ones (9 species). The most frequently occurring species were identified: Poa pratensis L., Melilotus officinalis (L.) Pall., Medicago falcata L., Vicia angustifolia L. and Lathyrus tuberosus L. Plants of Onobrychis arenaria (Kit.) DC. occur throughout Voronezh Province in meadow-steppe communities. Of interest are the samples of Agropyron pectinatum (Bieb.) Beauv. collected on the northern border of its area of distribution; three species of lower-growing fescue (Festuca rubra L., F. valesiaca Gaudin. and F. pseudovina Hack. ex Wiesb.); a perennial form of Medicago lupulina L.; a sample of Lotus corniculatus L. found on chalky outcrops of the Kalach Hills; red (Trifolium pratense L.), golden (T. aureum Pollich.) and strawberry (T. fragiferum L.) clovers from the valley of the Khoper River; pisiform vetch (Vicia pisiformis L.) from Kalach District and hairy vetch (V. villosa Roth) from Povorino District of Voronezh Province. The materials collected by the team were added to the holdings of VIR and are available for further study and use in breeding.
