Na první pohled nesourodou čtveřici tvůrců – Cypriana Kamila Norwida, Henryka Sienkiewicze, Zofii Kossakovou a Josepha Conrada – spojuje úzké romantické pouto. Nejsilněji se projevuje u (nejen) básníka Cypriana Kamila Norwida, poněvadž byl příslušníkem, byť pozdním, polské romantické školy. Romantické vidění světa do historických látek ve svých románech vnášeli Henryk Sienkiewicz (např. Quo vadis) a Zofia Kossaková (např. Křižáci, Beze zbraně). Josepha Conrada (vl. jm. Józef Korzeniowski) zase romantické cítění zavedlo do jiné jazykové sféry a do dálných krajů.
