Abstract:
The paper considers some articulatory features of allophones of the vowel /i/ in the Altai-Kizhi dialect (spoken in the locality Ust-Kan, Altai) of the Altai language visualized by magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). The Altai-Kizhi is the central basic dialect of the Altai literary language. In Altai, each rural locality represents a unique dialect, whose relevance of studying was emphasized by V. V. Radlov. Speech sounds of the /i/-type in the dialects of the Altai language are realized mainly as front variants with different degrees of openness. In the written Altai speech, the symbol “и” is used to denote narrow front non-labialized vowel; some variants of the Altai vowel /i/ are central-back differing in this from the Russian vowel /i/. Experimental data on the territorial dialects of the Altai-Kizhi dialect, obtained from its 6 native speakers (d1-d6) taking into account variable inherent palate height, shows both the common articulation bases of native speakers (clearly-expressed frontness) and their differences (variable openness).

Abstract The squib investigates the dialectal distribution of the Dutch construction type het kan/mag/moet, lit. ‘it can/may/must’, where a modal verb occurs ‘independently’ with an eventive subject and no infinitival complement. The construction is shown to be widely attested not only in traditional dialects of Dutch, but also in Frisian, Low German, and Afrikaans. We suggest that the construction, which does not occur in standard German or English, is an areal feature shared by the West Germanic vernaculars of northwestern Germany and the Low Countries, including the South African ‘side branch’ Afrikaans.

Abstract:
Grammaticalization is usually thought of as that subset of linguistic changes through which a lexical item in certain uses becomes a grammatical item, or through which a grammatical item becomes more grammatical (Hopper- Traugott, 2). This paper is an attempt to present this phenomenon, showing the results of our investigation on the development of the temporal marker in Mardini Arabic (spoken in Mardin province situated in Southern Turkey) from lexical items (kan-to be) into grammatical prefix (ka). This prefix is attached to the extratem- poral forms of the verb (imperfective and perfective). The verb kana (to be) existent both in standard Arabic and in all the Arabic dialects, has syntactically the role of a temporal marker that changes the tem- poral situation of a normal sentence (without kana). When the verb kana modi- fies a verbal sentence, both kana and the verb that follows it, independently take all the marks of conjugation (aspect, mood, person, gender and number). Hence, we realize that kana is not an auxiliary verb and the Arabic language does not have compound tense forms.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG Zur Entstehungsgeschichte des Standardspanischen auf dem amerikanischen Kontinent: Auswirkungen für die latein-amerikanische Dialektologie Diese Arbeit erörtert die Umstände, unter denen die spanische Standardsprache auf dem amerikanischen Kontinen t zustande kam; die im wesentlichen auf die Stä'dte ausgeríchtete Eroberung, der gesellschaftliche Hintergrund, die Erziehung und Ausbildung der frühen spanischen Einwanderer, das Prestige der spanischen Sprache im sechzehnten Jahrhundert, und die höchst positive Einstellung der conquistadores, der spanischen Eroberer, gegenilber ihrer Muttersprache. Sie skizziert die wichtigsten phonologischen Merkmale des kastilischen Spanisch für die Geschichte der spanisch-amerikanischen Dialekte, die traditionelle Dichotomie von gebildeter und volksttlmlicher Sprech-weisc, und die Auswirkungen der geschriebenen Norm auf die Haltung der Sprachforscher bezüglich der spanisch-amerikanischen Dialekte. Der Artikel legt auf unorthodoxc Weise die linguistischen und soziopsychologischen Abgründe zwischen dem spanischen Standard und seinen entsprechenden Randdialekten auf dem latein-amerikanischen Subkontinent dar. Besondere Aufmerksamkeit kommt dem im historischen Zusammenhang gesehenen Hiatus zwischen der Hochsprache und der Volkssprache im Spanischen zu. Dabei gehe ich von der Annahme (1) der Existenz eines relativ homogenen Dialektes, der auf den höchst formalen Ebenen der öffentlichen Interaktion in modernen städtischen Gemeinden gebraucht wird, und (2) der progressiven Entstehung eines rurban (rural/urban = ländlich/städtischen) Dialektes mit Merkmalen sowohl des gebildeten als auch des ungebildeten Spanischen aus. Zulctzt, in Anbetracht des raschen Strukturwandels in der latein-amerikanischen Gesellschaft im Allge-meinen, gebe ich Anstöße für neue Richtungen im Studium von sozialen und geographischen Dialekten in den Großstadtzentren des Kontinents.

Abstract:
Straipsnyje nagrinėjama dialekto vertimo problematika. Atvejo analizei pasirinktas pasaulio vaikų literatūros aukso fondui priskiriamos Frances Hodgson Burnett knygos „Paslaptingas sodas“ vertimas į lietuvių kalbą. Aiškinamasi, ar vertėjas perteikė originalo tekste vartojamą tarmišką šneką (dialektą) ir kokias jos vertimo strategijas rinkosi. Taip pat ieškoma atsakymo į klausimą, ar jam pavyko perteikti šiame kūrinyje dialekto atliekamas stilistines ir pragmatines funkcijas. Analizė grindžiama dialekto žymiklių (fonetinių, leksinių, morfologinių, sintaksinių) perteikimo strategijomis (pagal Leszek Berezowski, 1997). Nustatyta, kad vertėjas panaudojo mažiau dialekto žymiklių, negu jų yra knygos originale, nes dažniausiai vartojama dialekto vertimo strategija buvo jo neutralizacija. Verčiant vaikų literatūrą tokia strategija pasiteisina, nes vaikams aktualus pats pasakojimas, jo istorija, o ne kalbos ar kultūrinės realijos, kurių jie dažnai nesupranta. Vis dėlto tais atvejais, kai dialekto vartojimas aktualus pasakojimo raidai, atlieka tam tikras stilistines ar pragmatines funkcijas, vertėjas rinkosi leksikalizacijos ir vertimo šnekamąja kalba strategijas. Tokiu būdu jam pavyko perteikti kūrinio stilistiką, išlaikyti jo rišlumą ir išsaugoti tarmiškai kalbai priskirtas funkcijas tekste.

SUMMARY Dialect Vitality Left and Right of the Belgian Linguistic Frontier This article deals with a sociolinguistic research project that was carried out in two adjacent Belgian villages with a Low Frankish-speaking population: Teuven - one of the six Voer/ Fouron communes - and Sippenaken. In 1962 the linguistic frontier was fixed between these two villages. Teuven then became officially Dutch-speaking, Sippenaken remained officially French-speaking. The research project in question aimed at measuring the impact that the fixation of the linguistic frontier between these two villages had on the language behaviour and attitudes of the local population. In order to achieve this goal a standardized interview questionnaire was designed with questions about the dialect command and frequency of dialect and standard language use by parents and children. In addition, questions were asked about the appropriateness of using these language varieties in the home. Information about the existing attitudes towards the local dialect was elicited by investigating the convergence of the results gained in the interviews. RESUMO La pluvivivo de la dialekto dekstre kaj maldekstre de la belga lingvolimo La artikolo raportas pri socilingvistika esploro en du apudaj belgaj vilaĝoj kies loĝantoj parolas malaltfrankan dialekton: Teuven (unu el la ses komunumoj de Voer/Fouron) kaj Sippenaken. En 1962 oni fiksis la lingvolimon inter tiuj du vilagoj. Teuven per tio farigis oficiale nederlandlingva, dum Sippenaken restis oficiale franclingva. La priraportata esplorprojekto celis mezuri la efikon de la establo de la lingvolimo inter la du vilaĝoj al la lingvaj konduto kaj sinteno de la vilaĝanoj. Tiucele estis kompilita norma intervjuenketilo kun demandoj pri la grado de rego de la dialekto kaj la uzofteco de la dialekto kaj la norma lingvo fare de gepatroj kaj infanoj. Krome estis demandite ĉu estas konvene uzi tiujn lingvaĵojn en la familio. Informoj pri la sintenoj rilate al la loka dialekto estis kolektitaj per studo de la konvergo de la rezultoj de la intervjuoj.

The article focuses on some peculiarities of the Ingrian Finnish dialect spoken in the former Lutheran parish of Liissilä in Central Ingria.Two main pecularities of the Liissilä dialect are the imperative 2Sg -kai and a special group of verb type with the -oi stem ending. Most of the isoglosses, which were previously proposed as typical of the Äyrämöinen dialect, are currently absent in the Liissilä dialect. The dialect of Liissilä partially preserves two old pecularities of the Äyrämöinen dialect, namely nouns ending in - ее and verbs ending in - oi. On the other hand, there are quite a lot of areal isoglosses, which are common in local dialects of both Savakko (Inkere, Venjoki) and Äyrämöinen (Liissilä, Tuutari) parishes. These isoglosses include tarttu ‘potato’, potra ‘beautiful’, hirvitä ‘to be afraid’, the presence of the diphthong in the 3Sg imperfect form, the 1Pl affix -mma , the vowel ö in the verb pölästyy ‘to be scared’, the present stem niäe- of the verb nähhä ‘to see’ and some others. In the Linguistic Atlas of the Baltic-Finnish Languages the dialect zones of the Finnish language, including such units as the “South-Eastern Southern dialect” or the “dialect of Northern Khyame” are classified as “Evremeysky dialect”, “Savaksky dialect” and “dialect of Narvusi” in the territory of Ingria.

<p align="justify">On the one hand, the First World War was the epitome of destruction, on the other hand the war spurred humanity to think deeply and be creative. An example of human creativity, a fruit of World War I, was Dialectic Theology, a theology that counter-balances and corrects Liberal Theology. It corrects the concept that identifies God with the human, such that instead of humanity talking about God, humanity deifies itself. Dialectic Theology invites theologians to return to the Sacred Scriptures to rediscover the true concept of the Divine. The God of Christians is the God who is absolutely “Other”, a concept impossible for human reason to grasp. God can only be experienced in faith. Nevertheless, Dialectic Theology is not without imperfections for its theological model excessively absolutizes God. This tendency results in Dialectic Theology falling into a similar fault as Liberal Theology. Liberal Theology falls into anthropomorphism, while Dialectic Theology falls into theocentrism. It also ignors other theological sources, namely tradition and context. Contextual theologies are a reaction to Dialectic Theology. <b>Keywords:</b> dialectic theology, liberal theology, otherness, justification, religion, war. Di satu sisi, perang berdaya menghancurkan, pada sisi lain, ia memacu manusia untuk berpikir dan berkreasi. Salah satu kreasi manusia, sebagai buah dari perang Dunia I adalah Teologi dialektis. Teologi dialektis merupakan teologi yang muncul untuk mengoreksi Teologi Liberal. Hal yang dikoreksi adalah konsep tentang Allah yang bersifat antropomorfistis. Allah disamakan dengan manusia. Di sini, manusia alih-alih berbicara tentang Allah, padahal yang terjadi adalah ia yang meng-allah-kan dirinya. Terhadap realitas ini, Teologi dialektis meminta para teolog untuk kembali kepada Kitab Suci. Sebab konsep mengenai Allah yang benar ada di sana. Allah Kristen bukan Allah seperti yang dipikirkan oleh teologi liberal. Allah Kristen adalah Allah “yang lain”. Allah yang berbeda secara absolut dengan manusia. Terhadap Allah macam ini, rasio manusia tidak mungkin menjangkaunya. Ia hanya bisa dialami dalam iman. Teologi dialektis bukanlah tanpa cacat. Model teologi ini terlalu mengabsolutkan Allah. Tendensi ini telah membuat teologi ini jatuh ke dalam dosa yang sama seperti teologi liberal. Dosa teologi liberal adalah antropomorfisme, sedangkan dosa Teologi dialektis adalah teosentrisme. Kekeliruan yang lain dari teologi ini adalah pengabaian sumber lain dalam berteologi, yaitu tradisi dan konteks. Teologi kontekstual merupakan tanggapan atas Teologi dialektis. <b>Kata-kata kunci:</b> teologi dialektis, teologi liberal, alteritas, pembenaran,agama, perang.</p>

This study aimed to describe morphophonemic rules of Sumbawa language of Sumbawa Besar dialect. The description of the morphophonemic process in this study focuses on the morphophonemic rules based on the entire group of affixed morphemes found in the Sumbawa language of Sumbawa Besar dialect. The data was collected by using Introspektif method and Catat technique. Analyzing data using the Hubung-Banding Menyamakan and Hubung-Banding Membedakan techniques of the Padan Intralingual methods. The presentation of data analysis results using Formal and Informal methods. The affixed morpheme in BSDSB consists of prefixes {ba-}, {raN-}, {ka-}, {kaN-}, {pa-}, {paN-}, {sa-}, {saN-}, and {N-} and infix {-N-}. Each affixed morpheme has several concrete forms of morph as it joins the basic form by affixation. Morpheme {ba-} has four concrete forms, namely {ba-}, {bar-}, {bal-}, and {ra-}. Morpheme {raN-} has four concrete forms, they are {ran-}, {ram-}, {raŋ-}, and {rañ-}. Morpheme {ka-} has only a concrete form of {ka-}. Morpheme {kaN-} has seven concrete forms, namely {ka-}, {kaŋ-}, {kam-}, {kan-}, {kañ-}, {kaŋə-}, and {gan-}. Morpheme {saN-} has five concrete forms, they are {sa-}, {sam-}, {san-}, {saŋ-}, and {saŋə-}. Morpheme {sa-} has only a concrete form of {s-}. Morpheme {pa-} has only a concrete form of {pa-}. Morpheme {paN-} has eight concrete forms of morph {pa-}, {pam-}, {pan-}, {pañ-}, {paŋ-}, {paŋə-}, {par-}, and {pal-}. Morpheme {N-} has six concrete forms of morph {ŋ-}, {ñ-}, {m-}, {n-}, {ma}, and {mar-}. Infix morpheme {-N-} has two concrete forms of morph {-n-} and {-m-}. AbstrakPenelitian ini bertujuan mendeskripsikan kaidah morfofonemik bahasa Sumbawa dialek Sumbawa Besar. Uraian proses morfofonemik dalam penelitian ini berfokus pada kaidah morfofonemik berdasarkan seluruh kelompok morfem afiks yang terdapat dalam bahasa Sumbawa dialek Sumbawa Besar. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan metode instrospektif dan teknik catat. Penganalisisan data menggunakan teknik hubung-banding menyamakan dan hubung-banding membedakan dari metode padan intralingual. Penyajian hasil analisis data menggunakan metode formal dan informal. Morfem afiks dalam BSDSB terdiri atas prefiks yakni {ba-}, {raN-}, {ka-}, {kaN-}, {pa-}, {paN-}, {sa-}, {saN-}, dan {N-} serta infiks {-N-}. Tiap-tiap morfem afiks memiliki beberapa wujud konkret berupa morf ketika bergabung dengan bentuk dasar melalui afiksasi. Morfem {ba-} memiliki empat wujud konkret, yaitu {ba-}, {bar-}, {bal-}, dan {ra-}. Morfem {raN-} memiliki empat wujud konkret berupa {ran-}, {ram-}, {raŋ-}, dan {rañ-}. Morfem {ka-} hanya memiliki satu wujud konket, yaitu {ka-}. Morfem {kaN-} memiliki tujuh wujud konkret, yaitu {ka-}, {kaŋ-}, {kam-}, {kan-}, {kañ-}, {kaŋə-}, dan {gan-}. Abstract:
A philosophic account of quantum physics. The thesis is divided into two parts. Part I is dedicated to laying the groundwork of quantum physics, and explaining some of the primary difficulties. Subjects of interest will include the principle of locality, the quantum uncertainty principle, and Einstein's criterion for reality. Quantum dilemmas discussed include the double-slit experiment, observations of spin and polarization, EPR, and Bell's theorem. The first part will argue that mathematical-physical descriptions of the world fall short of explaining the experimental observations of quantum phenomenon. The problem, as will be argued, is framework of the physical descriptive schema. Part I includes in-depth discussions of mathematical principles. Part II will discuss the Copenhagen interpretation as put forth by its founders. The Copenhagen interpretation will be expressed as a paradox: The classical physical language cannot describe quantum phenomenon completely and with certainty, yet this language is the only possible method of articulating the physical world. The paradox of Copenhagen will segway into Kant's critique of metaphysics. Kant's understanding of causality, things-in-themselves, and a priori synthetic metaphysics. Our conclusion will be primarily a discussion of how we understand the world, and specifically how our understanding of the world creates potential for truth.

Kahn's genre of travel sketches offers us a visual basis to map his philosophical meandering. This thesis addresses the sketches produced from Kahn's voyages around the Mediterranean in 1950-51 and 1959 with an aim to understanding the premises that underlie them. During the trips, Kahn conjectured in his graphic oeuvre a dialogical method with the built forms of antiquity. On the one hand, he sought answers to his architectural and epistemological questions to these buildings; at another level, he re-contextualized the buildings in an imagined landscape that would in tum inform his imperatives. The sketches also permit an interesting theoretical commentary as they parallel Kahn's emergence into active architectural career in the fifties. At first encounter, some of them seem to be perplexing, but once extended into the context in which Kahn operated, they reveal an interwoven terrain of concepts that would continuously flower. There is no doubt that in his travel sketches Kahn was fighting a protracted battle about his architecture and that he benefited from the buildings of the past--but mostly at an epistemological level. Kahn raised questions on architecture that could have not been addressed by a formal retrieval of history. In that sense Kahn's travel sketches reappraise and re-propose the lessons of history.

This dissertation attempts to account for the paralysis of Adorno and Horkheimer's Dialectic of Enlightenment, and thus of radical critique in relation to practice in general. It begins by demonstrating that there is a methodological problem in the connection of the dialectical method to Adorno and Horkheimer's philosophy of history, which posits Enlightenment both as break with the history of reason, and as ahistorical concept of that history. The dissertation takes as its point of departure their discussion of Kant, as exemplary Enlightenment thinker. I will use Martin Jay's The Dialectical Imagination and Axel Honneth's Critique of Power- Reflective Stages in a Critical Social Theory here. The strategy of the next section is to rehistoricise Kant's thought and thus the Enlightenment within its historical moment. This follows a close reading of Kant's political philosophy in his' An Answer to the Question: What is Enlightenment?' and 'Contest of the Faculties' to show that Kant poses the problem of the morality versus politics in terms inseparable from his historical context: the emergence of the Modem state, and the French revolution. Two solutions to this problem present themselves within Kant's separation of public and private uses of reason. Public and private anticipates the Modem separation of state and civil society: 'moral-political' problem is thus solved by 'publicity', which plays a mediating role. A subtextual reading however, proposes that the public/private split refers to an internalisation of the political principle in what Etienne Balibar calls the 'citizen subject'. We will use Balibar's paper, ""Citizen Subject"", to show that the 'citizen subject' of Modernity emerges with the French revolution. Finally, these two possible solutions to the Kantian moral-political problem will be mapped to the political philosophical models of power of Hannah Arendt and Jürgen Habermas, and Michel Foucault respectively. Foucault's model of 'disciplinary' power will be connected to the 'citizen subject' while Habermas and Arendt's normative conceptions of publicness in their juridico-political models of power will be mapped to the first solution based on the dualism state/civil society. I will make use of Cohen and Arato's Civil Society and Political Theory, as well as various other secondary texts on political philosophy here. The last section will work out more clearly the relationship between Foucault's genealogical critique, the 'citizen subject' and the French revolution. It will show the similarity between Foucault's genealogy and the dialectical method in relation to Kant's historical reflection on his own present. To work out the conditions of this mode of what we will call radical critique of the present by Kant, and its basis on a Modern philosophy of history we will turn to Hannah Arendt's reading of Kant's political philosophy from his Aesthetics. Here Reinhart Koselleck' s Futures Past - On the Semantics of Historical Time will prove instructive on the link between Kant's philosophy of history, based on the metahistorical concept of revolution and Kant's judgement of the French revolution as historical event. The main thesis of this dissertation is that the radical critique of the present, in this case that of Foucault's genealogy and the dialectical philosophy of history of Adorno and Horkheimer are caught up in the same contradictions as Kant's radical judgement of the French revolution; and that this problem takes on an aesthetic form .

Abstract:
This thesis has four primary aims. Firstly, I develop an account of Adorno’s critique of Kant and Hegel’s philosophy. I argue that the role and structure of judgement is key to his critical analysis. Adorno's discussion of their metaphysics, epistemology revolves around an immanent critique of judgement. This critique reveals, in the dialectical sense, the irreducibility of the 'negative moment' within judgement. This critical exposition grounds the second aim of the thesis. Analysis of Kant and Hegel's philosophies enables us to discern a number of key concepts in Adorno's own thought, concepts which will help us to understand his notion of negativity. In particular, his dialectical critique produces a constellation of critical - or negative - dialectical concepts: conceptless [begriffslose], non-identity [Nichtidentität], mediation [Vermittlung]. The generation of these concepts and their elucidation provides the basis for the third aim: to give a textually viable and philosophically fruitful explanation of key commitments in Adorno’s negative dialectics. I argue that negative dialectics does not amount to a system, a standpoint, or even a set of principles. Rather, it is a critical activity. The commitments, which revolve around the constellation of concepts outlined above, indicate a critical sensitivity to the limits of epistemology and metaphysics and the problem that these limits pose for judgement. Finally, I develop the resources to answer Michael Rosen’s claim that Adorno’s rejection of Hegelian determinate negation leaves his dialectics without any dynamic force. Drawing upon aesthetics, we can better understand the dynamics of negative dialectics. Aesthetic engagement with artworks not only demonstrates an appropriate orientation of philosophy to material, it is also an appropriate medium through which we can gain a clearer understanding of the philosophical commitments elucidated above.

Esta dissertação apresenta uma análise semântica, no paradigma da Semântica Formal, da (i) restrição de domínio no DP e da (ii) expressão kar, que veicula a ideia de totalidade, no dialeto paranaense da língua Kaingang, do tronco Macro-Jê, família Jê, falada nas regiões sul e sudeste do Brasil. Num primeiro momento, o artigo definido parece ter, no Kaingang Paranaense, uma distribuição não trivial: aplica-se primeiro a um determinante quantificacional e restringe, via essa combinação, o domínio do quantificador, tal como no Basco, Grego e Státimcets (Giannakidou 2003, Etxeberria 2005 e Etxeberria & Giannakidou 2009), línguas muito parecidas com o Kaingang no domínio nominal. Alguns dados, contudo, apontaram a análise em outra direção. Entendemos que certos padrões de comportamento semântico e sintático apresentado por kar nas sentenças, tal como sua neutralidade quanto à propriedade de distributividade e a possibilidade da conjunção de duas sequências de [NP+kar] sob um mesmo artigo definido (ao contrário do Basco, no qual a mesma estrutura é agramatical, sugerindo que os quantificadores universais em Basco criam um QP), são algumas das evidências que, no conjunto, dão suporte para a hipótese, defendida nesta dissertação, de que kar, no Kaingang Paranaense, parece ser um modificador - à la Lasersohn (1999) -, não tendo, por isso, uma força quantificacional própria. A função semântica de kar seria de controlar o quanto de desvio da verdade é pragmaticamente permissível. Como consequência desta análise, no Kaingang Paranaense o artigo definido não operaria sobre um determinante quantificacional, mas sim sobre um NP. O que aponta no sentido de que os artigos definidos ag/fag (os/as) no Kaingang Paranaense, em contextos em que eles co-ocorrem com kar, não perderiam a sua função max, i.e., de formadores de indivíduo a partir de um conjunto, para funcionar meramente como um operador preservador de tipo e restritor de domínio adjungido ao determinante quantificacional, como proposto por Giannakidou 2003, Etxeberria (2005) e Etxeberria & Giannakidou (2009) para o Basco e o Grego. Ag/fag continuariam sendo artigos definidos clássicos ocupando o núcleo de uma projeção DP e kar um modificador. Também discutimos brevemente algumas das vantagens e problemas de se tentar estender esta análise para o Basco, Grego e Státimcets. E, por último, investigamos o comportamento de kar na sentença, as possíveis leituras quando da sua interação com indefinidos, numerais, tipos de predicados e o operador distributivo introduzido via reduplicação verbal. Com base nos dados, nossa proposta é de que - em função de a leitura distributiva, na maioria dos exemplos, ser permitida pelos informantes somente quando houve reduplicação verbal - kar é neutro quanto à propriedade da distributividade e que o operador distributivo introduzido por reduplicação verbal tem escopo sobre todo o VP.
This dissertation presents, in the paradigm of formal semantics, a semantic analysis of both (i) the phenomenon of domain restriction in the DP and (ii) the expression kar, which conveys the idea of totality, in a dialect of the Kaingang language, a Brazilian language from the Macro-Jê Stock, Jê family, spoken in southern and southeastern Brazil. Although, at first, the definite article in Kaingang seems to have a non-trivial distribution: it applies first to a quantificational expression, and via such combination restricts the domain of quantifier, such as in Basque, Greek and Státimcets (Giannakidou 2003, Etxeberria 2005 and Etxeberria & Giannakidou 2009), some data pointed the analysis in another direction. Patterns of semantic and syntactic bevavior presented by kar in some sentences, such as its neutralite regarding the property of distributivity and the possibility of conjoining two [NP + kar] sequences under the same definite article (unlike Basque, which does not allow such structure, suggesting that in Basque the universal quantifier creats a QP), seem to be as a whole evidences for the hypothesis, advocated in this thesis, that the expression kar may be a modifier - à la Lasersohn (1999) - and as such would not have a quantificational force of its own. The semantic function of kar would be to control how much deviation from the truth conditions of the sentences is pragmatically allowed. As a result of this analysis, the definite articles ag/fag in Kaingang do not operate on a quantificational expression, as in Basque and Greek, but on the NP. Such fact suggests that the definite articles in Kaingang, in contexts they co-occur with kar, do not lose their max function in order to work merely as a type preserver and a domain restrictor combined with a quantificational expression, as proposed by Giannakidou 2003, Etxeberria (2005) e Etxeberria & Giannakidou (2009) for Basque and Greek. Ag/fag would still be a classical definite article occupying the head of a DP projection and kar a modifier, instead of a universal quantifier. We also discuss briefly some of the advantages and problems of trying to extend this analysis to the Basque, Greek and Státimcets languages. And lastly, we investigated the behavior of kar in the sentence, its interaction with indefinites, numerals, types of predicates and the distributive operator introduced via verbal reduplication. Based on such data, once distributive readings were permitted by the informants only via verbal reduplication, our proposal is that kar is neutral regarding the property of distributivity and that the distributive operator introduced via verbal reduplication has scope over the VP.

The main theme of this PhD thesis is the representation of the unconditioned in the Critique of Pure Reason. It is argued an essential function of the unconditioned for the preparation of logical and transcendental activities of speculative reason. There is in this work, in a new light, the defense of exposition of some theses about the following sub-themes: 1) the origin of transcendent concepts necessary mode in consciousness; 2) the definition of transcendental appearance; 3) the development and solution of the antinomy of pure reason; 4) the definition of transcendental freedom; 5) the exposition of the function of speculative reason in the establishment of scientific knowledge. Themes (1) and (2) are covered in the first chapter through the exposition of the function of representation of the unconditioned in the development of subjective derivation of transcendental ideas carried out by Kant, of A293/B349 to A338/B396, in the Critique of Pure Reason. Themes (3) and (4) are treated in the second chapter, specifically in the presentation of the results of the research about The Antinomy of Pure Reason, in the second chapter of the second book of the Transcendental Dialectic, of A405/B432 to A568/B596. The theme (5) is found in the third chapter and it is presented by the defense of the thesis that the speculative reason has a vital role to scientific knowledge, it is obtained from the study about Appendix of the Transcendental Dialectic, of A642 / B670 to A705 / B733. It is defended here, ultimately, that all these issues are based on a fundamental thesis that permeates all Transcendental Dialectic, namely that the unconditioned can be determined as a transcendental element with a regulative empirical use of all experience to establish a systematic unity of all objective knowledge.
O tema central desta Tese é a representação do incondicionado dentro da Crítica da Razão Pura. Defende-se uma função imprescindível do incondicionado para elaboração das atividades lógica e transcendental da razão especulativa. Encontra-se aqui, sob uma nova ótica, a apresentação da defesa de algumas teses acerca dos seguintes temas secundários: 1) a origem de conceitos transcendentes de modo necessário no pensamento; 2) a definição de aparência transcendental; 3) a elaboração e solução da antinomia da razão pura; 4) a definição de liberdade transcendental; 5) a exposição da função da razão especulativa no estabelecimento do conhecimento científico. Os temas (1) e (2) são abordados no primeiro capítulo através da exposição da função da representação do incondicionado no desenvolvimento da derivação subjetiva das ideias transcendentais realizada por Kant na Crítica da Razão Pura de A293/B349 a A338/B396. Cette thèse porte sur la question du fini et de l’infini dans la philosophie de Hegel. L’objectif est double. En premier lieu, elle vise à retracer l’influence exercée par la philosophie antique (principalement Platon et Aristote) et par la philosophie moderne (pour l’essentiel Kant et certains postkantiens) sur l’élaboration hégélienne des catégories de la finité et de l’infinité. En second lieu, elle étudie le développement systématique de la logique de l’infinité hégélienne à la lumière de cette influence. Il s’agit d’étudier, à travers une approche historique et critique, comment Hegel résout l’opposition traditionnelle du fini et de l’infini par sa théorie des deux infinis. A l’aune des conceptions de l’infinité-finie (la mauvaise infinité) et de l’infinité véritablement infinie (la véritable infinité), Hegel montre que le processus de la détermination du fini est un processus d’idéalisation qui supprime la contradiction du fini et de l’infini. Ainsi, l’enquête sur des concepts de finité et d’infinité permet de découvrir que l’idéalité spéculative est pour Hegel une réponse non seulement au problème traditionnel de leur articulation, mais aussi, plus généralement, aux problèmes soulevés par la caractérisation des idéalismes antiques et modernes
This dissertation aims at investigating the problem of the finite and the infinite within Hegel’s philosophy. Its objective is twofold. Firstly, it begins with an examination of the impact of the ancient Greek philosophy (especially that of Plato and Aristotle) and Modern philosophy (especially that of Kant and the post-Kantians) on Hegel’s own understanding of the categories of the finite and the infinite. Secondly, it attempts to analyze the systematic development of the logic of Hegelian infinity in relation to the ancient and modern influences. By adopting an historical and critical approach, this work therefore focuses on the question of how Hegel comes to solve the traditional opposition between the finite and the infinite with the help of his theory of two infinities. With the distinction between a finite infinity (namely a spurious infinity) and an infinity which is itself infinite (namely a true infinity), Hegel shows that the process of determination of the finite is itself a process of idealization which overcomes the very contradiction of the finite and the infinite. The inquiry into the concepts of the finite and infinite thus enables us to understand that the speculative ideality is an answer not only to the traditional opposition between the finite and infinite, but also to the problems raised by the definition of ancient and modern idealisms
