Abstract:
These texts from San Miguel Acatán in Guatemala are in Acateco, a Mayan language closely related to Kanjobal and Jacaltec. They were written, translated, and in part analyzed by José Juan Andrés. The first story relates how the Wakax kan'sky cow' , flattened part of the town. Four other stories deal with nawals and lords of the mountain. Two short selections describe beliefs associated with sickness and feast-days. Grammatical notes related to the texts are included in the introduction.

Lemmon and Horcasitas present the paleography andtranslation of a Nahuatl colonial manuscript on music theory from SantaEulalia, a Kanjobal (Mayan) town in the Cuchumatan mountains of Guatemala.Their translation and an earlier study were published in 1980 in Chile. This dissertation describes six syntactic complex predicates in Q'anjob'al (Maya) spoken in Santa Eulalia, Huehuetenango, Guatemala: the Directional Construction (DIRC), Verbal Resultative Predicate (resultative V1V2), Causative Predicate (causative V1V2), Complement-like Predicate (complement-like V1V2), Preverbal Resultative Predicate (R2°P), and Positional Resultative Construction (PRC).
