Abstract:
Protein Digestibility of Kapok Seeds in Vitro for Fish Feed Kapok seeds is a by-product of agricultural industry having potential to be used as raw material for fish feed as a source of protein and essential fats. The content of the protein in the kapok seed flour is 28 – 34 % that is an overwhelming amount to be a great source of protein for fish feed. Feasibility studies are needed, however, the use of kapok seed based on the digestibility of the protein. Pepsin with concentrations of 0.02; 0.2; and 2 % (in 0.075 N HCl solution) kapok seed flour added in three repetitions to test the digesti

Kapok (Bombax ceiba) is a deciduous tree that can grow in the dry-hot valley of southwestern China where its natural regeneration by seedlings is difficult. As mature fruit split open and seeds disperse by wind, it is difficult to collect fully mature seeds. The effects of seed moisture content (MC) and storage temperatures on seed germination of dark-brown seeds collected from split fruit and light-brown seeds collected ≈10–15 days earlier than the time of fruit split were studied to determine the effective germplasm preservation via the seeds. Dark-brown mature seeds could tolerate desiccati

The study was carried out to evaluate the effects of feeding raw kapok seed meal on growth performance, nutrient digestibility and carcass characteristics of weaner rabbits. Thirty (30) weaner rabbits were used for the study. Five diets were compounded using raw kapok seed meal (RKSM) at 0, 5, 10, 15 and 20% inclusion levels. The rabbits were weighed and randomly assigned to the five dietary treatments replicated three times with two rabbits per replicate in a completely randomized design. Recently, non-edible oil sources have become a priority as feedstocks for biodiesel production. Some promising non-edible plant seeds in Indonesia for biodiesel production are kepuh (Sterculia foetida), castor (Ricinus communis L.), kapok (Ceiba pentandra), and tamanu (Calophyllum inophyllum). These seeds have several advantages, such as not being used for human consumption, the ability to grow on degraded land, and rapid growth in various locations. Additionally, biodiesel made from these plant seeds can be of a higher quality, compatible with fossil fuels, and help reduce emissions from the
