Abstract Aim To compare digital panoramic images acquired for the presurgical assessment of third molars captured with a storage phosphorbased system with conventional film panoramic radiographs. Methods and Materials A total of 51 pairs of digital and conventional panoramic images, made simultaneously, were included in this study. The images were evaluated for diagnostic quality prior to third molar surgery by two experienced oral surgeons and rated with a four-point grading scale. Results Despite the fact that conventional panoramic images were rated higher than the digital images, the diffe

AbstractBlack line is a polychrome overglaze painting technique that was developed in Central Asia in the late 14th century. Black-line tilework is also found in 15th- and 16th-century Anatolia, yet it is unclear how the tradition emerged in this region. This paper investigates the appearance of the technique in Anatolia and situates it in the context of Timurid (1370–1501) tilework as well as the development of Anatolian traditions of the Rum Seljuk (1077–1307) and Beylik (1071–1453) periods. The analysis is conducted by tracing the history of two tiles from the collection of the Metropolitan

SummaryAfter the demonstration that neither N-glycans nor neuraminic acid are involved in the binding of K88 lectins to the Bp and y chains of porcine fibrinogen and that their recognition was due to O-glycans (L’Hôte C, Berger S, Bourgerie S, Duval-Iflah Y, Julien R, Karamanos Y. Infect Immun 1995; 63: 1927-1932) it clearly appeared that these lectins could be used as probes to detect O-glycans on fibrinogens of other species. The conclusion of the present study is that many mammalian fibrinogens contain complex O-glycans on βp and γ chains. In addition, the combined use of the biotinylated K

A single ovigerous female specimen of a new species of Epimeria Costa in Hope, 1851 was collected from deep sea, off southwestern Mexico, in the eastern Pacific. Epimeria karamani sp. nov., is most similar to females of E. cora J.L. Barnard, 1971, E. pacifica Gurjanova, 1995 and Epimeria morronei Winfield, Ortiz & Hendrickx, 2013. However, it differs from these species by: eyes long and slightly kidney-shaped; pleonite 3 strongly carinate, with dorsal tooth produced and acute; urosomite 1 with a wide mid-dorsal notch and a strong, upright blunt tooth; coxa 3 anterior margin slightly trunca

The entropy production and the variational functional of a Laplacian diffusional field around the first four fractal iterations of a linear self-similar tree (von Koch curve) is studied analytically and detailed predictions are stated. In a next stage, these predictions are confronted with results from numerical resolution of the Laplace equation by means of Finite Elements computations. After a brief review of the existing results, the range of distances near the geometric irregularity, the so-called "Near Field", a situation never studied in the past, is treated exhaustively. The most important morphological structures for the discrimination of species belonging to the genus Amauronyx Reitter, 1882, are studied in detail; differences with the genus Trichonyx Chaudoir, 1845, are specified. The phenomenon of antisymmetry of the terminalia and genitalia, observed in five species, is commented. Holotypes of two previously described species are examined and lectotypes are designated for ten species, whose essential characters
