Full textThis Bachelor thesis takes a closer look at the charismatic leadership that often is claimed to be a trait that some people are born with. It is often said that people like Gandhi, Barack Obama and Olof Palme had this particular trait. A trait that would make people follow the leader willingly despite themselves and cater to his or her every whim. This thesis aims to problematize this and see if charisma as a personal trait really is true. With the help of the father of charisma, Max Weber, and research about leadership and charisma, this paper draws a model and tries to understand if charismatic leadership is more depended on these three components; The leader, the followers and the situation. This model is then applied to Steve Jobs, famous to be a charismatic person, and his career to try to show that charisma is not a personal trait. The thesis concludes that charisma is built on these three components and that charisma is a part of a process, which makes it come alive and grow.

Level: Final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Business Administration Author: Ulrika Lundmark & Violeta Jonsson Supervisor: Lars Ekstrand Date: 2011 – 05 Aim: The purpose of this study is to show by means of historical examples how the charismatic leadership has acted on the world scene and discuss its possible return. More specifically we want answers to those questions: How we want to define the charismatic leaders in the future? What is the ideal leadership and why? Is there a future for the charismatic leader? Method: Using historical examples, we look for the charismatic leadership characteristics. The survey was conducted through the reading of various writings on historical and contemporary leadership. The essay is based on a qualitative study because the base of the study consists of already written material but there is an element of quantitative study in which our own experience of different leadership types has the lead role. This study is based on an analysis model, analysis of the historical and present-day charismatic leadership. From these perspectives, we have tried to get an idea of what kind of leadership, the future society can accept. Result & Conclusions: Our conclusion is that depending on where in society we are, we will meet with various types of leaders but to the charismatic leadership (part of) will be intertwined with a democratic organization and the possibility that a new leadership style takes shape is big.The results of the study will be presented in our last chapter, conclusions. Suggestions for future research: Of all the leadership styles, we have restricted this study to the charismatic leadership that we thought was a fascinating topic. The charismatic leadership is worth being studied and documented in more detail. We believe that a study about to find the nuances that make possible to reconcile the democratic leadership style with the charismatic leadership would be interesting. Contribution of the thesis: The essay has contributed to an increase in our understanding of how the charismatic leadership works and opens the door for a variety of essay options for future students. Full textAbstract Title: Auditor’s independence with focus on the client’s leadership Level: Final assignment for Bachelor Degree in Buisness Administration Author: Linda Mithander & Malin Läckgren Supervisor: Jan Svanberg Date: 2014 Aim: Our study aims to investigate how the auditor’s independence is affected by the client’s charismatic- and transformational leadership. Method: We have used quantitative survey in our study. The survey we used is based on Bass (1981) measuring “Multifactor Leadership Questionnaire”, which measures the leaderships. In addition, we used two audit case so as to be able to measure the auditor’s independence. The survey was sent to approved and certified public accountants in Sweden, and the collected data were analyzed and reported using relevant statistical methods. Results & Conclusions: Our study resulted in a confirmatory that the clients charismatic leadership had affect on the auditors independence. On the contrary there were no significant connection between the clients transformative leadership and the auditors independence. By our literature survey and recess in prior research so be it’s hardly surprising that charismatic leadership exhibited a significant connection with the auditors independence, then this leadership affects employees because they are strong, effective and that they have appealing visions. However, it surprised us a bit that we did not have the slightest connection between transformational leadership and independence of the auditor, then these two leadership under existing studies are very overlapping. Suggestions for future research: It appeard interesting correlations in our study, which could provide answers to the conditions under which the auditor sees his client as transformative and charasmatic. This would be an intersting spin for future research. Contribution of the thesis: Whether the knowledge of the charismatic and transfromational leadership has an impact on auditor independence, which can be useful for auditing firms to pay attention to society’s lack of confidence in the auditor. Full textAim: The study aims at investigating how the choice of the auditor's initial negotiation strategy is influenced by the charismatic leadership exercised by the client's CFO. The research questions also concern which negotiation strategies are most likely that the auditor chooses to apply when the client's CFO is perceived as charismatic. Method: The study is based on positivistic and deductive approach, through which I have tested the result of a quantitative survey with theories in the field. The study has a cross sectional design. The data collection was done through a web-based survey that was sent to auditors operating in Sweden. Result & Conclusions: The study confirms that the term charismatic leader is relevant in this context as it shows that respondents experience strong and weak leaders in their daily negotiation action in terms of charismatic leaders. Furthermore, the study could identify a link between one of the negotiation strategies and charismatic leadership. Suggestions for future research: The study contributes to the accounting literature by stating the relationship between auditors and their clients, and more specifically the negotiation between auditors and clients as a social phenomenon. Furthermore, the study is alone in applying the charismatic leadership as an impact factor on the auditor's choice of negotiation strategy. Contribution of the thesis: The limitations of the study consist of the low response rate and the difficulty in staging the effects of charismatic leadership. Further studies should adopt a more experimental character to further explain the potential impact that charismatic leadership may have on the auditors' choice of negotiation strategy as well as a study of how the client's choice of negotiation strategy influences the auditor's choice of negotiation strategy.

Full textBakgrund: Projekt är en arbetsform som får allt större utbredning. Projekt kräver nya former av ledarskap, som skiljer sig från linjeledarskap. I detta sammanhang blir därför projektledaren en mycket viktig person.
Syfte: Syftet är att ur ett individperspektiv skapa djupare förståelse med avseende på vad som karaktäriserar framgångsrika projektledare.
Genomförande: Intervjuer har genomförts med fyra framgångsrika projektledare med avseende på karaktärsdrag, beteende/ledarstil samt motivation/drivkraft.
Resultat: Projektledare är starkt resultatinriktade och har förkärlek till utmaningar. De tror starkt på sin egen förmåga att prestera och har en stark vilja. De ställer höga krav på sig själva men är prestigelösa och stresståliga. Framgångsrika projektledare är både uppgifts- och relationsorienterade. Den starkaste drivkraften i deras arbete är den utmaning projektledarskap innebär. Att få se ett konkret resultat av deras hårda arbete är också en stark drivkraft.

Full textDuring the last four decades of the 1900’s, the churches in Sweden faced major changes, both from a national and a local perspective. Two movements within Christianity played a major role in this development: the ecumenical movement and the charismatic movement. The encounters between the established churches and, in particular, the charismatic renewal movement was, however, not always friction-free. At times, they were quite belligerent. As a result, many relations between people and organisations were damaged, during the 80’s and 90’s. In addition to personal and collective grief, this implied a significant drain of resources. The aim of this study is to examine, from an ecclesiological perspective, what happens in the encounter between a renewal movement and churches in a local ecumenical context, and to highlight under what conditions these meetings lead to unity and division, respectively. The actors of interest to this study are (1) the renewal movement with its upholders, (2) the churches, with its ministers, and (3) leaders at district and national levels. The aim is to find patterns in their behaviour, as well as the consequences of these for the encounters between the renewal movement and the established churches in the area. The participants' ability to engage in active reconciliation appears to be an important factor, determining the direction of the correlation between renewal movements in relation to division and unity. A part of the aim is therefore also to examine the conditions and the occurrence of reconciliation processes, as well as the methodology used. The study is made from a local ecumenical perspective on the meeting between the renewal movement and the church. More specifically, the ecumenical development in Uddevalla, during its meeting with the charismatic renewal movement the years 1975-2000, is examined.

Full textAim: The debate about the auditor independence has been going on for a long time. Today is the issue of auditor independence one of the most important in accounting which depends on several corporate scandals that have occurred in recent years. Previous studies shows that close relationships explicate social identifications which can have a positive and a negative impact on auditor independence. We have added personal identification in our study at the individual level to expand previous studies. We have also added the charismatic leadership as a factor to investigate whether this affect identifications. The study aims to investigate whether the client identification, personal and professional identification is affected by a charismatic leadership and whether these identifications has an impact on auditor independence. Method: In our study we have used surveys as a method to collect primary data. Data were collected from Swedish authorized and approved auditors. The collected data where then processed and analyzed by the statistical program SPSS statistics. The results of the statistical analyzes are then presented in different tables. Result and conclusions: The results of the study showed that charismatic leadership has an impact on all identifications, however, this effect is relatively weak, which means that there are many other factors that increase these identifications. Furthermore, the result also showed that personal identification can be a greater threat to auditor independence than client identification. Suggestions for future research: To obtain the respondents' own thoughts and opinions, a qualitative focused study with interviews as a data collection method could be implemented. Further implications could be to examine other factors that may affect different identifications. Contribution of the thesis: The study contributes for further research about the auditors' non-financial dependence, in which we examine the problem from a social identity perspective. Furthermore, the study can provide knowledge of the factors that affecting social identities.

Full textHow a speaker can use their posture, gesture, facial expression and voice to create a strong ethos, pistis and sense of trustworthiness is, in this paper, associated with charisma (the power of leadership or authority).
Verbal and nonverbal expressions from three particular speeches by Martin Luther King, John F Kennedy and Bill Clinton have been analyzed in depth. The results show that patos as well as strong nonverbal expression are factors in inspiring devotion or creating enthusiasm. Personal magnetism and radiance is also found to develop through figures of speech and rhetorical devices, including metaphors. Results show that facial expressions, pitch and other prosodic information are not always consciously taken in. Nevertheless, it is questioned whether such information can affect the ethos and pistis developed. This kind of subconscious infliction can be made visible by modern technical equipment. By identifying relevant para- and extralinguistic signals (so called ‘charismatic behaviors’ e.g. intense eyecontact) we can more easily understand why some people affect us greatly, while others go unnoticed.

Full textSyftet med denna litteraturstudie är att finna samhälleliga och historiska kontexter som sammanbinder Peoples Temple, Heavens Gate och Soltempelorden. Definitioner och beskrivningar av sekter, manipulativa sekter och karismatiska ledare presenteras. Fokus ligger på vilka likheter och skillnader som finns i deras uppbyggnad och tro, hur samhället såg ut när dessa sekter uppstod och om man kan finna några gemensamma nämnare när det gäller självmorden, alternativt morden.
Peoples Temple, Heavens Gate och Soltempelorden har alla något gemensamt. De iscensatte tre av historiens största religiösa tragedier genom tiderna. Alla tre sekterna lämnade jordens yta genom att medlemmarna tillsammans med ledarna begick självmord för att komma till en bättre värld.
Alla tre sekternas självmord kantades av samhällets motstånd och det finns historiska incidenter som kan ha att göra med grundandet av dessa grupper. Det är viktigt att man ser till de historiska och sociala faktorerna för att kunna förstå hur en sekt utvecklas på ett visst sätt och hur deras verksamhet har kunnat leda fram till ett kollektivt självmord.

Full textSyftet med studien var att undersöka vad personalen anser om transaktionellt och transformativt ledarskap avseende ledarens användande av villkorad belöning, leda genom avvikelser, karismatiskt/inspirerande, intellektualiserande och individualiserande ledarskap. För denna kvalitativa studie användes en semistrukturerad intervjuguide för att undersöka sex medarbetares uppfattningar av ledarskapsstilarna på ett företag i mellersta Sverige. Materialet analyserades genom deduktiv tematisk metod för att identifiera nyckelord kopplade till respektive tema och underkategori baserade på Bass faktormodell (1985) (Avolio, Bass & Jung, 1999). Resultatet presenterar personalens perspektiv på ledarskap och bidrar med kunskap om hur medarbetarna ser på betydelsen och tillämpningen av ledarskap. Det framkom en bild av både transaktionellt och transformativt ledararskap som inriktat på att tillfredsställa medarbetares behov i arbetslivet. Resultatet kan ge organisationen ökad förståelse för hur ledarskap kan tillämpas på arbetsplatsen enligt medarbetarnas intressen.
