Abstract:
Generation mean analysis is a key determinant in designing the appropriate breeding approaches for implementing new desirable character/s in crop varieties and also in studying inheritance of quantitative traits. Parents, F1, F2 and backcrosses exhibited significant digenic interactions in the majority of cross combinations in tomato. Cross combinations and characters indicated the adequacy of simple additive dominance for 50% flowering (CO3 х Floradade, Pant T3 х Azad T5), branches/plant and plant height (CO3 х Floradade, Pant T3 х Kashi Sharad), and fruit/cluster (CO3 х Floradade) indicating absence of non-allelic interactions. Duplicate type of epistasis occurred for 50% flowering (CO3 х Floradade, Kashi Amrit х Kashi Sharad), branches/plant (CO3 х Floradade, Kashi Amrit х Kashi Sharad, Pant T3 х Kashi Sharad), plant height (CO3 х Floradade, Pant T3 х Kashi Sharad), fruit/plant (CO3 х Floradade, Pant T3 х Azad T5, Kashi Amrit х Kashi Sharad, Pant T3 х Kashi Sharad), fruit weight (CO3 х Floradade, Pant T3 х Azad T5), fruit/cluster (Kashi Amrit х Kashi Sharad, Pant T3 х Kashi Sharad), yield/plant (CO3 х Floradade, Punjab Upma х Azad T5, Pant T3 х Kashi Sharad) indicating selection strength should be lenient in the earlier and rapid in later generations because advancement should be through selection. Characters governed by additive components were predominant in fruit/plant and plant height, indicating direct selection for improvement of these traits. Bangladesh J. Abstract:
Albeit we know that death is inescapable, we try to avoid it as long as we can so that we can enjoy the immediate and worldly pleasures. Conspicuously, the negative facet of death has always been emphasized. This study represents the positive aspect of death and, simultaneously, the importance of death for human existence. Interestingly, many scholars have discussed that a human being can never imagine his death, though he knows that he has to die. When we talk about death in relation to Kashi, we find most of the positive aspects of death and dying in Kashi. Though most of the Hindu religious texts have delineated the greatness of Kashi as one of the sacred places of pilgrimage, this study endeavors to show that not all people who die in Kashi will achieve moksha. It is interesting to note that for many Indian people, death is a matter of joy in Kashi. This study explores, though not restricted to, the question of death and dying in India in general and in Kashi in particular.

Abstract:
Response of morphological and biochemical traits against okra shoot and fruit borer in different okra varieties were studied. Among the fifteen okra varieties under test Kashi Satdhari was the most superior variety as it showed lowest (2.60) per cent shoot damage followed by D-1-87-5 (3.62%) and Pusa A-4 (4.24%). On the contrary, in Pusa Sawani highest level of shoot infestation (16.23%) followed by SB-2 (13.74%) as against Kashi Pragati (check) 10.08 per cent were recorded. Further, okra variety Kashi Satdhari (7.87%) showed lowest fruit infestation and was considered as least susceptible variety which was at par with NO-136 (8.77%), D-1-87-5 (9.12%) and Kashi Leela (9.38%). Amongst all the okra varieties evaluated for their susceptibility to fruit infestation, Pusa Sawani and VRO-03 showed relatively higher fruit infestation i.e. 35.17 and 33.41 per cent, respectively and registered as the most inferior varieties against (26.12%) Kashi Pragati (check). The correlation study between fruit infestation and morphological factors implied that primary branching and trichome length adversely affect the borer infestation. Further, phenol and phosphorus availability in host plant also showed negative effect on shoot and fruit borer infestation. Bangladesh J. Bot. 50(4): 1059-1066, 2021 (December)

Abstract:
The phytochemical content of okra (Abelmoschus esculentus L. Moench) genotypes varied in accordance of type of compound and genotype. Out of 20 genotypes, only three genotypes (Kashi Lalima, Kashi Kranti and VROB-178) showed significantly higher amount of phytochemicals (ascorbic acid, total chlorophyll, anthocyanin, total carotenoids, total phenolics and total antioxidants activity). Among these genotypes Kashi Lalima showed highest ascorbic acid (19.63 mg/100 g) and anthocyanin content (0.14 mg/100 g) while highest chlorophyll content (5.75 mg/100 g) and total carotenoids content (1.71 mg/100 g) were recorded in Kashi Kranti. The amount of total anthocyanin and phenol compound varied from 0.08 to 0.14 mg/100 g of fresh weight (FW) and 38.88 to 62.82 (mg catechol equivalent/100 g fresh weight), respectively. The total moisture content and total crude fiber content also showed a significant difference within the range of 80.14 to 93.16% and 1.30 to 4.40 % of fresh weight, respectively. The highest total phenolics and moisture content was observed in genotype VROB-178, while highest crude fiber percentage was represented by Kashi Satdhari. Hence, selected okra genotypes containing good amount of phytochemicals, which can be further used for nutritional quality improvement of okra in future breeding programs.

Lundin, Victoria. "Daughter of Kashi - Queen of Jhansi : The Use of History of an Indian queen - the Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi from the time of Independence until today." Thesis, Karlstads universitet, Institutionen för samhälls- och kulturvetenskap, 2015. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:kau:diva-35398.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this master thesis in history was to examine the use of history of an Indian queen, the Rani Lakshmi Bai of Jhansi. The Rani Lakshmi Bai was born in Banaras and married a king – the Raja of Jhansi. The Rani Lakshmi Bai fought against the British during the first war of independence year 1857-58. Recently, a memorial has been built at her supposed birthplace in Banaras, more than 150 years after her death. This development has raised several questions about the use of history of the Rani Lakshmi Bai. How has the use of history of Rani Lakshmi Bai changed? Why has it become relevant to build a statue of the Rani now and not before? The purpose of this study has been answered with the help of oral history and text analysis. Firstly, this has been done, by examining the knowledge of people from Banaras and Jhansi as well as through their perceived image of the Rani Lakshmi Bai. Twenty people from Banaras and four people from Jhansi have been interviewed. Secondly, the institutional level information has been examined which is presented in educational textbooks and newspapers like the local newspaper Aaj and the national newspapers The Hindu as well as The Times of India. The results show that the level of historical knowledge about the Rani is low, though the love and affection for her are great. The use of history of the Rani Lakshmi Bai has been as a freedom fighter, a role model in different contexts and a symbol, as well as an inspirational source of women empowerment. There is also a political use of the Rani. All these uses of history in combination with the increased economic interest in the neighbourhood of Assi in the city of Banaras made it relevant and possible to build a monument of the Rani Lakshmi Bai in present time.

Palizhati, Yiltiz Sulaiman. "Le dialecte de Kashgar en Chine." Paris, EHESS, 2013. http://www.theses.fr/2013EHES0016.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is the result of a study of the Kasgar dialect of the ouïgour language. The dialect of Kashgar is an official language of the Karakhanide empire (turk Karahanlılar), a Transoxiane dynasty, with a turkish origin, which reigned between 840 and 1212. It was then one of the dynasties the most developed in central Asia. The Kashgar dialect is a language used by all the Ouïgours who, for centuries and still today, live in the Kashgar region. This language has been used as the base for the ouïgour language until the writing system reform which occurred between 1960 and 1983. Facing globalisation and nationalisation and bilingualism, this language is in danger. In addition, except the « Diîwân lughât 'at-turk» (the dictionary of the turkish language) which was written by the linguist Mahmoud Kashgari, there is no proper study published about the ouïgour language. From recordings performed locally providing us with precious information about the lexicons, the grammatical elements, the idioms, and also the proverbs, we could resume the phonetics, the lexicons, the grammar and the proverbs of that language. The thesis is composed of five parts : The first part presents briefly the standard ouïgour language, which was not really studied by the occidentals and consequently unknown. The second part explains the phonetic of the Kashgar dialect. This part enhances the large differences with the standard ouïgour language. The third part explains the composition and the structures of the vocabulary of the Kashgar dialect. In the fourth, we treat the morphology. The fifth part is about the verbs. Then, in the same part, we are studying the structure of the phrases, and finally the Kashgari proverbs. At the end of the document, we will find the appendixes, the bibliography and a list of nearly 2. 000 words of the Kashgari vocabulary

Alard, Mireille. "L'Art des Bashileele (Kasai Occidental)." Paris 1, 1988. http://www.theses.fr/1988PA010618.

Full text
Abstract:
Tris livres composent cette these.

Yuval, Boaz, and Todd E. Shelly. Lek Behavior of Mediterranean Fruit Flies: An Experimental Analysis. United States Department of Agriculture, July 2000. http://dx.doi.org/10.32747/2000.7575272.bard.

Full text
Abstract:
The Mediterranean fruit fly, Ceratitis capitata (Diptera: Tephritidae), is a ubiquitous pest of fruit trees, causing significant economic damage both in the U.S. and in Israel. Control efforts in the future will rely heavily on the sterile insect technique (SIT). Success of such operations hinges on the competitive ability of released males. The mating system of the medfly is based on leks. These are aggregations of sexually signaling males that attract females (who then select and copulate a courting male). A major component of male competitiveness is their ability to join existing leks or establish leks that are attractive to wild females. Accordingly, we identified leks and the behaviors associated with them as critical for the success of SIT operations. The objectives of this proposal were to determine 1. what makes a good lek site, 2. what are the energetic costs of lekking, 3. how females choose leks, and finally 4. whether the copulatory success of sterile males may be manipulated by particular pre-release diets and judicious spatial dispersal. We established that males choose lek sites according to their spatial location and penological status, that they avoid predators, and within the lek tree choose the perch that affords a compromise between optimal signalling, micro-climatic conditions and predation risk (Kaspi & Yuval 1999 a&b; Field et al 2000; Kaspi & Yuval submitted). We were able to show that leks are exclusive, and that only males with adequate protein and carbohydrate reserves can participate (Yuval et al 1998; Kaspi et al 2000; Shelly et al 2000). We determined that females prefer leks formed by protein fed, sexually experienced males (Shelly 2000). Finally, we demonstrated that adding protein to the diet of sterile males significantly enhances their probability of participating in leks and copulating wild females (Kaspi & Yuval 2000).

Abstract:
This casebook presents the outcomes of the Water for Sustainable Development (WSD) research project implemented by the United Nations University Institute for the Advanced Study of Sustainability (UNU-IAS) to improve regional environmental and economic policies in the case study countries. The project investigated the role of water in the sustainable development of four locations in Asia: Bali Province, Indonesia; Kaski District, Nepal; Visakhapatnam City, India; and Rayong Province, Thailand. Based on an Input-Output (IO) analysis, the research findings provide a comprehensive matrix of intersectoral dependence, in terms of economy, water consumption, and pollution loads, and offer policy directives for controlling water pollution. The publication is aimed at policymakers, water practitioners, researchers, and students interested in learning and utilising the analytical framework developed by WSD.
