Full textThe aim of these Master theses is to analyze the expression of Salon culture and continuity of this cultural process in interwar Kaunas. Interlaced lifestyle and creativity of interwar intellectuals determined the formation of lively and highbrowed atmosphere in the city. Communication of intellectuals in this cultural environment also determined the rise of Salon culture phenomenon. In this research culture and society compose one entire system and it is explored through expressed and fixed personal experiences, common public conventions, processes of arts. Therefore the culture of interwar Kaunas is considered not just as the one which kept essential classic Salon characteristics, but it is also a typical communication tradition of XX century’s society. The culture of Salons is defined as distinctive social communication form also as attesting process of ideological maturity. The continuance of Salons manifestation is recognized in later periods, after ending of Lithuanian interwar epoch. In interwar period as well as when statehood was lost, the manifestation of Salon culture enriched the city of Kaunas, formed traditions of intellectuals and became essential attribute of social life. This is a very important argument taking into consideration that culture of Salons is non – material part of Kaunas city history.

Full textAssessment of Kaunas Urban forest effects and air pollution mitigation was done using i-tree program UFORE model. During the study four different city parks were analyzed – Kleboniskis, Panemune, Romainiai, Azuolynas. Kaunas city air pollution concentrations were counted with Airviro program. Data required for this study was used from Kaunas city trees inventory book 2004, as well field data has been collected from city parks in random sample of fixed area plots in April of 2008. VŠĮ “Kauno aplinkos kokybės tyrimai “delivered meteorogical data about Kaunas city. Results showed, that Kaunas city forest remove about 328 metric tones of atmospheric air pollutants per year. In addition these trees remove 97,7 metric tones of O3, 87,3 metric tones of particulate matter, NO2 – 81 metric tones, SO2 – 42,4 metric tones, CO – 19,3 metric tones. The biggest part of pollutants have been removed in the park of Kleboniskis – 38,7 metric tones (39% of total air pollutants removed in the analyzed city parks), Panemune park removed 35,7 metric tones (36%), Romainiai park - 20,4 metric tones (20%), ąžuolynas- 5 metric tones ( 5 %). Results presented, that Kaunas city urban forest are able to sequestrate 3365 metric tones of Carbon per year, all Kaunas urban forest trees could storage 237210 metric tones of carbon. The city parks carbon storage are: Panemune park trees - 25 metric tones, Kleboniskis park trees -13 metric tones, Romainiai park trees -12,5 metric tones, Ąžuolynas park... [to full text]

Full textThe objective of the study is to measure the quality of trees and NO2 pollution in Kaunas city parks. Area of research was split into squares of 0,25 km2 each, where the trees were analized. Total of 73 trees were analized in 8 parks. Nitro dioxide pollution in the city parks were estimated using the method of passive accumulation. The defoliation of trees in all analized Kaunas city parks were very similar . All the parks trees can be classified as poorly damaged by the tree crown damage class. The highest defoliation mean found in Dainava and Draugystė parks. The lowest defoliation mean – in Panemunė park. By the classification of trees docoloration the analized parks divide into two groups. The Panemunė, Vytautas and Ramybė parks is in insignificant leafage discoloration group. The Santaka, Nemuno sala, Ąžuolynas, Kalniečiai, Dainava ir Draugystė parks is in small leafage discoloration group. The highest concentration of NO2 is identified in Ąžuolynas park, while the lowest – in Panemunė park. The concentration of NO2 in Kaunas city parks didin’t exceed the maximum allowable concentration in living environment.
