In this article, the central issue is the interaction between Sandrart’s friendship networks, his art production and success in Amsterdam. His famous literary life’s work the Teutsche Academie, and Lebenslauf, his (auto) biography, will also be involved. Sandrart’s stay in Amsterdam (1637-1645) was the true springboard for his career. Upon arrival in Amsterdam, he immediately positioned himself in the network of influential entrepreneurs, connoisseurs and magistrates by moving into a patrician residence on the Keizersgracht. Abstract How many dialects were spoken in nineteenth-century Amsterdam? In his Algemeen Nederduitsch en Friesch Dialecticon (1874) Johan Winkler stated, after consultation with Jan ter Gouw, that in 19th-century Amsterdam 19 different dialects could be distinguished. This article investigates whether it is possible to find evidence for this assertion in the surviving language material. For this purpose all language phenomena mentioned in 57 sources up till the mid-twentieth century have been put into a database, with information on the neighbourhood where they were used, and other metadata. AbstractUp to now Herman Becker, one of the people who lent Rembrandt money in the straitened circumstances of the last years of his life, has had a bad press as an art-dealer who owed his wealth and influence to the exploitation of artists (Notes 1, 2). It is now possible to correct this image on the basis of recent research in the Amsterdam archives. Becker was born around 1617 and the supposition that he came from Riga in Latvia is borne out by the facts that he had contacts there, that his father Willem certainly lived there between 1640 and 1650 and that the words 'of or 'to' Riga appear

Abstract:
De Twee Rozen glasshouse was one of the best-known glasshouses in seventeenth-century Amsterdam and an important producer of glass in the Venetian style. It occupied two sites: initially at Keizersgracht, from 1621, it then moved in 1657 to Rozengracht, further from the center of the city. Production debris recovered from a deposit close to the Keizersgracht site were originally attributed to an earlier glasshouse, but a reinterpretation in light of more recent excavations firmly attributes these glasses to the first location of De Twee Rozen. AbstractIn his Nieuwe Schouburg Jan van Gool described a series of decorations representing episodes from the talc of Pandora, painted in 1740 by Jacques Ignatius de Roore in Amsterdam. Until now the only impression we had of these works was conveyed by two watercolours by Jurriaan Andriessen after preliminary studies by De Roore, and by one of De Roore's own preliminary studies. These were published in 1991 by J.W. Niemeijer, who also identified the house for which the decorations were painted as the building on the corner of Keizersgracht and Molenpad.
