Tribal people who are the original inhabitants of India are the poorest and the most vulnerable in Kerala. Kerala, with its world-famous ‘Kerala Model of Development’ has achieved spectacular social development that is the best among the third world countries in the world and her social development indicators are justifiably comparable with many developed nations too. This bright and rosy picture of Kerala has been shadowed by the abysmally low socio-economic development of its tribal people. Kerala State in southwestern India has achieved some of the third world's best rates of life expectancy, literacy, and infant mortality, despite one of the lowest per capita incomes. Especially notable is the nearly equal distribution of development benefits to urban, rural, male, female, high-caste, and low-caste sections of the populations. An even population distribution, a cosmopolitan trading history, and the development of militant worker and small farmer organizations led by dedicated activists provide the main explanations for Kerala's achievements. Many young Keralite struggles to balance their traditional values with the demands of a new environment, which can cause stress and anxiety. State processes and programs are often constructed and implemented with the intention to ameliorate the lives of the inhabitants living within those borders. However, in order for citizens to benefit from these programs and processes, for example, anti-poverty programs and decentralization projects, their participation is a necessity. But societal contexts in which citizen participation occurs vary to great extents. It is important then to investigate these differences so as to further our understanding of the workings of participation. This research conducts a comparative analysis between two

It was in 1816 that Benjamin Bailey arrived in Kerala as part of the ‘Mission of Help’ to the ancient Syrian Christian Church of that state. These Christians trace their heritage back to the labours of the Apostle Thomas and are therefore also known as Thomas Christians. The Mission of Help had as its main goal the reformation and revival of this ancient Christian Church. The CMS did not wish, they claimed, to establish the Anglican Church in Kerala. The thesis appraises this Mission of Help and why the Syrian Christians ultimately brought it to an end in 1836. Firstly, theological differences
