INTRODUCTION AND AIM The prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) has increased significantly in the black South African population in recent years. Early in the development of CVD, atherosclerotic plaques form in the vessel wall. When this plaque becomes unstable and ruptures, the coagulation cascade is activated and a blood clot forms. This dissertation examines commonplaces in influential Anglo-American women's activist rhetorics of the mid-nineteenth century. In contemporary rhetorical theory commonplaces refer to "opinions or assumptions...that people generally consider persuasive" (Burke, A Rhetoric of Motives 56). An avatar endowed with expressive gestures, as subtle as changes in facial expression, is used to render the sign language animations. SWML, an XML format of SignWriting is provided as input. <p>Abstract</p><p>This study is based on empirical studies and the approach to this has been interviews with a group of pupils. The study investigates the use of reading strategies among pupils. The aim is to investigate how the pupils use different reading strategies in order to overcome problems that occur when reading fictional texts. Abstract:

Even the best readers encounter words not instantaneously recognised. Consequently, competence in using effective and efficient word identification strategies is essential for fluent reading. We focus on an important word identification competency: application of knowledge of onsets and rimes for identifying words not known instantaneously. The authors propose that direct instruction in applying knowledge of onsets and rimes, as part of a balanced contextualised literacy program, can play a key role in fostering substantial growth in reading achievement.

This thesis looks at the Virginia Woolf's critique of the previous portrayal of characters in fiction and her adaptation of a new narrative style in order to convey a modern realism. Two of her novels include an intrusive narrator that serves to argue for the creation of a new form of representation of the character in the novel. Through the creation of distance and the parody of the genre, Woolf provides the reader a picture of their relationship with the character in the novel.
