Abstract:
AbstractGroundnut productions have been declining in Mali in spite of several new improved varieties being released, the key problem being inadequacy of the seed supply system. To solve this problem, Kolokani MSP was established in 2012 and reorganized with support from TL III in 2015 to include more stakeholders in the groundnut value chain—farmers particularly women, farmer associations, cooperative societies, seed producers, agro-dealers, grain traders, processors, research and extension. Four new varieties Fleur11, ICGV 86124, ICGV 86015, and ICGV 86024 were supplied to the platform for FPVS and among them two, Fleur 11 and ICGV 86124 were preferred for their high yields and large grain size under farmer conditions. Through training of trainers, the different members of the platform reached 1246 farmers among them 928 women with improved groundnut seed production, aflatoxin management, seed business plans, and small-scale mechanization. A total 47 FPVS, 50 Demonstrations, and three multi-locational variety trials were conducted annually from 2016 to 2018. Kolokani platform have played an important role in groundnut value chain by producing and marketing 85 tons groundnut certified seed of these varieties annually for farmers. This is expected to stop the national productivity decline while improving platform members’ livelihoods and nutrition status.

Abstract:
The strategic importance of supply chain management has been increasing during the past two decades. Companies utilise the supply chain in order to become more competitive as a whole. Recently, it has been observed that environmental and social pressures and standards have a direct and indirect impact on supply chain management and the competitiveness of corporations. Integrating environmental criteria into supply chain management has become an important strategic issue for many companies. This study explores the subject area of the greening of supply chain management. In particular, the supply chain environmental management (SCEM) programme is explored in the Korean context. The SCEM programme is based upon the relationship between buyers and suppliers. By utilising this relationship, general improvement in the environmental performance of suppliers can be achieved. A case study of Hyundai Motors Co. (HMC) empirically supports this. Green supply chain management led to new ways of collaboration with suppliers, in terms of developing environmental solutions and capacity buildings with key suppliers. The key implication for suppliers, in particular SMEs, is to develop suppliers’ capabilities and increasing supplier criticality in order to achieve win-win outcomes in environmental and financial performance.

This chapter introduces project manager’s perceptions of the importance of developing relationships with preferred suppliers as this has the potential to impact elements of cost, planning, time management, quality management, technical expertise, and product availability. This study identified key characteristics and attributes of supplier-oriented purchasing behaviors in project-oriented environments. The review of recent literature indicated that very little research exists that examines project procurement experts’ perceptions of key aspects of supplier-oriented purchasing behavior. This research utilized a two round, modified Delphi methodology to capture the perceptions of 19 experienced project management procurement specialists. Results showed that the most strongly valued attributes could be clustered under the headings of quality, communications, attentiveness, and professionalism. Even though projects were typically characterized as short term endeavors, the characteristics found most important to project procurement managers were similar to those previously reported by procurement professionals in long-term functional environments.

In this chapter we focus on examining the coordination mechanisms for a two-stage supply chain comprising one supplier and one retailer. We consider such a channel relationship that the transaction quantity between the two members is sensitive to the supplier’s inventory level and that the supplier’s unit inventory holding cost has a linear stepwise structure. We devise a coordinated revenue-sharing contract with bargaining so that each party’s respective profit is better than that resulted from the simple sequential optimization mechanism. The key contract parameters, namely the supplier’s inventory level and the retailer’s revenue-sharing fraction, are obtained and analyzed. Numerical illustrations of the contracts are given and shed lights on how the supply chain should coordinate in order to gain better performance.

Increased competition and market dynamics in healthcare have led to a stronger need for a strategy to amend customer relationships and for a clear understanding of how healthcare providers can improve their collaboration with key suppliers. Under the label of ‘supplier relationship management’, more research is conducted to study this phenomenon either on a social system or technical system perspective. In this paper, the author presents a maturity model that links metrics for both ‘worlds’ to prescribe the evolution of key practices, IT-services, and people skills. The proposed model can be used to examine the maturity of supplier relationship management of a particular hospital, identifying performance gaps and systematizing improvement initiatives. When used across a health system, it can be applied to benchmark the performance of the participating members, facilitating new ways for collaborative learning.

Abstract:
The supplier assessment has always been a key area to be developed for necessary advancement and evaluation by the researchers. In this chapter, the authors react upon the agile characteristics and furnish an agile supplier assessment decision support system to be utilized by the managers of the distinguish firm for assessing the agile characteristics of the partner supplier firm. The authors presented a modeling based on generalized interval-valued trapezoidal fuzzy numbers (GIVTFNs) to assess the status of partner supplier concerning agile characteristics. A multi-criterion decision-making (MCDM) appraisement module is built by the authors and a decision support system is developed by them to judge the scale of agile characteristics in the supply chain (SC) network of the supplier firm. A second-level hierarchy appraisement module is discussed by the authors to illustrate the procedural implementation of the proposed work. Here, the authors proposed a decision support model, which can grab the subjective views of the decision makers. The authors utilized GIVTFNs to clutch the uncertainty and vagueness of the measures and their metrics (sub-measures) of the discussed agile platform. In this study, a fuzzy performance important index model is presented to recognize the weak and strong agile measures and metrics of the supplier firm. The major intention of the authors in this study is to deliver a knowledge-based technical model for the sake of determining the quality of agile strategies by the supplier firm in their SC network.

Recognition of this situation led, in 2005, to initiation by Japan Atomic Energy Agency (JAEA) of an ambitious project to develop an advanced Knowledge Management System (KMS) aimed to facilitate its role as the sup

The requirements for the optimization of the Product Development Process (PDP) in manufacturing companies have grown enormously. There are many key concerns to which a modern PDP must respond. Lean production, structures oriented towards the business process, shorter product cycles and delivery times, as well as decreasing vertical range of manufacture in conjunction with decentralized customer/supplier cooperation, cost pressure, and quality management are only some examples. It is evident that in the early phase of the product development process 70% of the product costs are specified. This

Pipeline companies face a difficult task in cost-effectively managing pipeline maintenance activities. Complexity is introduced due to geographical expanse, remote locations, access to qualified contractors and the desire to hire locally, and contract management of available suppliers. Pipeline companies have traditionally provided maintenance activities through in-house resourcing, or management of a multitude of available contractors. With increasing efforts to focus in-house resources on core pipeline operations, there has been a corresponding shift in moving noncore maintenance activities

Due to the nature of the manufacturing and support activities associated with long life cycle products, the parts that products required need to be dependably and consistently available. However, the parts that comprise long lifetime products are susceptible to a variety of supply chain disruptions. In order to minimize the impact of these unavoidable disruptions to production, manufacturers can implement proactive mitigation strategies. Two mitigation strategies in particular have been proven to decrease the penalty costs associated with disruptions: second sourcing and buffering. Second sour

In today’s semiconductor industry, the business loss associated with one full day of lost production can have a significant impact on revenues. Key factors affecting overall profitability are unplanned fabrication downtimes and contamination resulting in defective products. It is critical, therefore, to implement effective risk management strategies for the fabrication process to eliminate yield-limiting defects and to improve the overall production. This paper will discuss a study completed for a semiconductor chemical supplier. Battelle applied a methodology based on the Process Event Tree/H

COVID-19 brought the public’s attention to the critical value of transportation and supply chain workers as lifelines to access food and other supplies. This report examines essential job skills required of the middle-skill workforce (workers with more than a high school degree, but less than a four-year college degree). Many of these middle-skill transportation and supply chain jobs are what the Federal Reserve Bank defines as “opportunity occupations” -- jobs that pay above median wages and can be accessible to those without a four-year college degree. This report lays out the complex landsc
