AbstractWe propose a new method to automatically contour the left ventricle on 2D echocardiographic images. Unlike most existing segmentation methods, which are based on predicting segmentation masks, we focus at predicting the endocardial contour and the key landmark points within this contour (basal points and apex). This provides a representation that is closer to how experts perform manual annotations and hence produce results that are physiologically more plausible. Our proposed method uses a two-headed network based on the U-Net architecture. One head predicts the 7 contour points, and the other head predicts a distance map to the contour. This approach was compared to the U-Net and to a point based approach, achieving performance gains of up to 22% in terms of landmark localisation ($${<}4.5$$ < 4.5 mm) and distance to the ground truth contour ($${<}3.0$$ < 3.0 mm).

Terminological concepts are the most important aspects of scientific research and development activities, as this book briefly provides epistemological content about the fundamentals of medicine. In scientific literature, the terminology is a combination of single or complex terms in the form of keywords that provide the first impression about an event. Medical terminology and phrases help professionals understand each other without much discussion. Information and knowledge are generally hidden in the etymological and epistemological concepts, such as words, sentences, definitions, terms, terminology and their current scientific structures. Advances in knowledge exchange and improvement processes are the results of conceptualization and terminological applications, especially as a paradigm shift in medicine. Linguistic data, which is a widely used communication tool in medical sciences, contain imprecision and ambiguity. These uncertainties can be minimized by making terminological agreements among experts.

Introduction: Artificial Intelligence (AI) is referred as a branch of computer science which is customized to build up computer algorithms to do the works which are basically based on intelligence of human beings, like capability to understand and manage the tasks. Word "AI" is being utilized when computer manages to do some analytical tasks like "problem-solving and learning", that generally a man usually connect with brains of other human beings. This branch helps in planning diagnosis, decisions for projection, treatment and prognosis. AI is shown to uplift the efficiency, accuracy and precision similar to medical practitioners, but comparatively more fast and affordably. Materials and Method: The sources were searched from a database of PubMed library and Google Scholar for published literature from 2017 to 2023 (last 6 years). The inclusion criteria included key words of AI, recent trends in dentistry, applications of AI, Results: The 17 articles that met the selection criteria (most of them were review article and some observational studies) were included for this chapter. Conclusion: AI has become a promising tool by its various applications in dentistry. Although it cannot replace the role of dentists in health care system, but it can prove as a valuable adjunct by assisting in diagnosis and treatment planning in a fast and precise way. Still there is the need to understand the models and concepts of AI clearly in order to get proper benefits of this technology. To establish AI databases, dentists should also provide authenticated information, so that accurate results can be received from AI. The challenges should be managed in such a way that dentists can have a long-term reliability on AI models.

Abstract Ludwig Wittgenstein was a very able medical laborntory technician, working in Newcastle General Hospital during the Second World War, and in addition was one of the twentieth century’s most influential philosophers. His contribution in his latter, better-known, job was to linguistic philosophy and although his text is often dense and difficult, his basic messages were, and are, simple and clear. Words, he said, are simply tools, and most causes of dis¬ agreement arise from the fact that those who were arguing were using the same term with different meanings. For Wittgenstein, what can be said is the same as what can be thought, as the famous aphorism from his key work the Tractatus says, ‘the limits of my language are the limits of my world’ (Wittgenstein 1922). He also pointed out that words, as they become more widespread in their use, pick up many different meanings and may eventually cause more confusion than clarity. All these observations relate to the term “evidence-based medicine’ since it was first introduced five years ago.

Quality assurance has become key concerns in healthcare and it is important to standardize the processes for healthcare properly. Though it was needed to describe process of healthcare diagnosis and treatment, it was very difficult by the reason of being service products including complexity and expertise. We challenged to visible, structurize, standardize and IT-systematize of clinical knowledge for healthcare quality management. The patient condition adaptive path system (PCAPS) was developed. PCAPS describes an overall flow of possible clinical pathways that a patient's disease state may trace and detailed medical judgment and treatments for each disease state. It suggests possibility of quality assurance using the standard plan of medical treatment process. PCAPS comprises two major tools: clinical process chart and unit sheet. These describe the total flow of treatment and the concrete medical treatments involved in each step. The PCAPS master is proposed. This is a glossary of the terms that are used in the unit sheet. Each master file has special structure for each work domain. In other words, PCAPS describes the standard process of healthcare using the clinical process chart, unit sheet, and PCAPS master. We apply nursing master file for nursing care action and observation offered by MEDIS-DC in Japan. Through we developed many PCAPS contents, we identified description of structured nursing knowledge. The nursing master file was brushed up by designing PCAPS content using it. It was suggested that PCAPS contents as standard clinical plan designed by medical specialist team included nursing knowledge.

Chapter two examines literary works by authors who explore women’s experiences of menstruation, childbirth, and the menopause in France. It argues that women’s writing from France primarily frames the female fertility cycle in terms of the medicalisation of the female body. These works position medicalisation as having a negative impact on women’s corporeal experiences and attitudes towards their own bodies. This tendency reflects, and situates within a more contemporary context, Leclerc’s criticism of the medical profession. This chapter also presents another key tendency in contemporary women’s writing from France, which is to inscribe the female body in violent, abject, and traumatic contexts. It analyses novels by well-known authors such as Virginie Despentes, Marie Darrieussecq, and Catherine Millet alongside lesser-known authors such as Laurence Tardieu and Nathalie Schweighoffer.

The analysis of collected data shows that all differences in the term formations are related to the national peculiarities of the Russian and Chinese languages.
