A new calibration method to improve the motion accuracy of a 5-axis control machining center has been developed. A method to diagnose various causes of motion errors on linear and rotary axes has been also established. Furthermore, a diagnosis method of motion errors caused by servo motors using the position feedback function is suggested in this paper. This study also figured out employing the direct drive motor for the rotary axes improved the characteristics of all the servo motors on the machine. Finally, the development test machine proved its high machining accuracy through actual machining of a complex-shaped workpiece.

"Weighted hypergroups and some questions in abstract harmonic analysis." Thesis, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/10388/ETD-2013-11-1298.

Full text
Abstract:
Weighted group algebras have been studied extensively in Abstract Harmonic Analysis.Complete characterizations have been found for some important properties of weighted group algebras, namely, amenability and Arens regularity. Also studies on some other features of these algebras, say weak amenability and isomorphism to operator algebras, have attracted attention. Hypergroups are generalized versions of locally compact groups. When a discrete group has all its conjugacy classes finite, the set of all conjugacy classes forms a discrete commutative hypergroup. Also the set of equivalence classes of irreducible unitary representations of a compact group forms a discrete commutative hypergroup. Other examples of discrete commutative hypergroups come from families of orthogonal polynomials. The center of the group algebra of a discrete finite conjugacy (FC) group can be identified with a hypergroup algebra. For a specific class of discrete FC groups, the restricted direct products of finite groups (RDPF), we study some properties of the center of the group algebra including amenability, maximal ideal space, and existence of a bounded approximate identity of maximal ideals. One of the generalizations of weighted group algebras which may be considered is weighted hypergroup algebras. Defining weighted hypergroups, analogous to weighted groups, we study a variety of examples, features and applications of weighted hypergroup algebras. We investigate some properties of these algebras including: dual Banach algebra structure, Arens regularity, and isomorphism with operator algebras. We define and study Folner type conditions for hypergroups. We study the relation of the Folner type conditions with other amenability properties of hypergroups. We also demonstrate some results obtained from the Leptin condition for Fourier algebras of certain hypergroups. Highlighting these tools, we specially study the Leptin condition on duals of compact groups for some specific compact groups. An application is given to Segal algebras on compact groups.

Nam, Chang Woo. "The Relative Effectiveness of Positive Interdependence and Group Processing on Student Achievement, Interaction, and Attitude in Online Cooperative Learning." 2008. http://hdl.handle.net/1969.1/ETD-TAMU-2008-12-163.

Full text
Abstract:
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relative effectiveness of positive interdependence and group processing on student achievement, interaction, and attitude in online cooperative learning. All of the participants, 144 college students enrolled in one of three different courses, received initial general instruction about teamwork skills and cooperative learning at the start of the study. Participants were then randomly assigned to one of three treatment groups: positive interdependence, group processing, and no structure. The ?positive interdependence? groups received subsequent positive interdependence skills training which were then utilized in their instructional activities. The ?group processing? groups received subsequent group processing skills training for use in their instructional activities. The ?no structure? groups received no additional instructional treatment beyond the initial basic teamwork and cooperative learning training. Results indicated that there were significant differences among students in the ?positive interdependence,? ?group processing,? and ?no structure? groups with respect to their achievement scores and interactions. Participants in the ?positive interdependence? groups had significantly higher achievement than participants in either the ?group processing? groups or the ?no structure? groups. In addition, participants in the ?positive interdependence? groups and the ?group processing? groups interacted with each other to a greater extent than those in the ?no structure? groups. This study also examined the relative effectiveness of positive interdependence and group processing on types of student interaction. The results indicated that ?positive interdependence? strategies were relatively more effective than ?group processing? strategies on ?sharing and comparing of information? interactions, whereas ?group processing? strategies were relatively more effective than ?positive interdependence? strategies on ?negotiation of meaning and co-construction of knowledge? interactions. Regarding student attitude towards the experiences of cooperative learning: participation, communication resources, and online activities, there was no significant difference among any of the three groups. The overall results of this study suggest that instructors would be advised to incorporate positive interdependence strategies in their online courses to help students perceive that they should actively contribute to their online group activities. In addition, instructors are recommended to inform groups of the individual progress of each member?s activities periodically by employing group processing strategies.

Full text
Abstract:
Most bacteriophages release progeny virions at the end of the infection cycle by lysis of the host. Large phages with double-stranded DNA genomes use a multigene strategy based on holins, small membrane proteins, and bacteriolytic enzymes, or endolysins. Holins mediate the control of endolysin activity and thus the timing of lysis. Phages with small genomes only encode a single protein for cell lysis. There are three known unrelated single protein lysis systems: the ?X174 E protein, the MS2 L protein, and the Q? A2 protein. None of these phages encodes a cell wall degrading activity, and previous work has shown that the lytic activity of E stems from its ability to inhibit the host enzyme, MraY, which catalyzes the formation of lipid I, the first lipid intermediate in cell wall synthesis. The purpose of the work described in this dissertation was to characterize the ?X174 E-mediated inhibition of MraY using genetic and biochemical strategies. A fundamental question was why no large phages use the single gene system. This was addressed by constructing a recombinant phage, ?E, in which the holin-endolysin based lysis cassette of ? was replaced with E. ?E was compared with ? in genetic and physiological experiments, with the results indicating that the holin-endolysin system increases fitness in terms of adjusting lysis timing to environmental conditions. Using ?E, physiological experiments were conducted to characterize the interaction between E and MraY in vivo. Transmembrane domains (TMD) 5 and 9 have been identified as the potential E binding site by isolating MraY mutants resistant to E inhibition. The five Eresistant MraY mutants were found to fall into three classes, which reflect the apparent affinity of the mutant proteins for E. Finally, an assay for MraY activity employing the dansylated UDP-MurNAc-pentapeptide and phytol-P, was used to demonstrate the inhibition of MraY by purified E protein. It was determined that E is a non-competitive inhibitor for MraY in respect with both substrates. A model for E-mediated inhibition of MraY was proposed, in which E binds to TMDs 5 and 9 in MraY and thus inactivates the enzyme by inducing a conformational change.

Full text
Abstract:
The book describes the fundamentals of particle detectors in their different forms as well as their applications, presenting the abundant material as clearly as possible and as deeply as needed for a thorough understanding. The target group for the book are both, students who want to get an introduction or wish to deepen their knowledge on the subject as well as lecturers and researchers who intend to extent their expertise. The book is also suited as a preparation for instrumental work in nuclear, particle and astroparticle physics and in many other fields (addressed in chapter 2). The detection of elementary particles, nuclei and high-energetic electromagnetic radiation, in this book commonly designated as ‘particles’, proceeds through interactions of the particles with matter. A detector records signals originating from the interactions occurring in or near the detector and (in general) feeds them into an electronic data acquisition system. The book describes the various steps in this process, beginning with the relevant interactions with matter, then proceeding to their exploitation for different detector types like tracking detectors, detectors for particle identification, detectors for energy measurements, detectors in astroparticle experiments, and ending with a discussion of signal processing and data acquisition. Besides the introductory and overview chapters (chapters 1 and 2), the book is divided into five subject areas: – fundamentals (chapters 3 to 5), – detection of tracks of charged particles (chapters 6 to 9), – phenomena and methods mainly applied for particle identification (chapters 10 to 14), – energy measurement (accelerator and non-accelerator experiments) (chapters 15, 16), – electronics and data acquisition (chapters 17 and 18). Comprehensive lists of literature, keywords and abbreviations can be found at the end of the book.

Soares, Renata Araújo. O Estado de coisas inconstitucional e a calamidade do sistema penitenciário: Diretrizes constitucionais para uma política transversal de segurança pública. Brazil Publishing, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.31012/978-65-5861-320-6.

Full text
Abstract:
The present dissertation aims to establish, initially, a scientific correspondence between the State of Unconstitutional Things, previously recognized by the Supreme Federal Court on September 9th, 2015, in the judgment of the allegation of fundamental precept’s violation nº 347 and the continuous calamity in the penitentiary system of the state of Rio Grande do Norte, which was decreed in March 2015 and persists until 2018. From the link proposed here, the local factual elements which, together, characterize a scenario of serious systemic violations of human rights will be analyzed – through deductive and documentary way, with bibliographic support. Next, the urgent necessity to break the traditional model of regional public security and the consequent structuring of a public security priority policy with a transversal and articulated performance, based on the accomplishment of actions of intelligence and on the citizen emancipation will be demonstrated. Therefore, from the perspective of structural judicial activism, the State of Unconstitutional Things can be seen as an important decision-making technique used to stimulate the need for dialogical and intersectoral practices among various public agencies and civil society in solving issues related to collective demands of high complexity. The relevance of this constitutional study can be reinforced with the existence of Bill nº 736/2015, intended to set legal limits “on the state of unconstitutional things and significant commitment” and with the Law No. 13,675 of June 11th, 2018, which disciplined the National Public Security Policy (PNSPDS) and the Public Security System (Susp). In force since July 12th, 2018, the aforementioned Federal Law expresses “public security actions and transversal policies” as guidelines of the National Public Security Policy (article 5, IV). In this sense, faced with social contexts of extreme vulnerability, as perceived in all the state of Rio Grande do Norte since the public security crisis aggravation for more than three consecutive years, the definition of new constitutional guidelines and the promotion of integrated public policies within the regional prison system are urgent measures. Keywords: State of Unconstitutional Things. Prison System. Public Security. Human Rights. Public Politics.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: Childhood stunting remains a major malnutritional problem in developing countries. Stunting occurred the adverse effects on children’s health in the short and long term, including failure to thrive, impairment of cognitive and motor development, stunted stature, metabolic disorders, and decreased intellectual capacity. Integrated nutritional intervention is important to prevent stunting. This study aimed to identify the nutritional interventions to reduce stunting in developing countries. Subjects and Method: A systematic review was conducted by searching from Wiley Online Library, and ProQuest databases. The research question was formulated in PICO-S format: (1) Population, (2) Intervention, (3) Comparison, (4) Outcome, and (5) Study design. The next step was identification, screening, and checking the eligibility of the studies. The keywords were nutrition intervention and stunting reduction. The inclusion criteria were openly accessed and English-language articles published between 2019 to 2020. The searched articles were conducted identification, screening, and eligibility. The data were reported by PRISMA flow chart. Results: Nine articles met the inclusion criteria. Integrated efforts to reduce stunting incidence were carried out through sensitive and specific nutritional interventions. A holistic approach involving the non-health sectors had significant impacts. Some limitations had still occurred in the capacity of implementing qualified nutritional interventions and their utilization. Conclusion: Implementation of nutritional interventions have been focused in developing countries with different approaches to reduce stunting incidence. Abstract:
Computer poetry generation is our first step towards computer writing. Writing must have a theme. The current approaches of using sequence-to-sequence models with attention often produce non-thematic poems. We present a novel conditional variational autoencoder with a hybrid decoder adding the deconvolutional neural networks to the general recurrent neural networks to fully learn topic information via latent variables. This approach significantly improves the relevance of the generated poems by representing each line of the poem not only in a context-sensitive manner but also in a holistic way that is highly related to the given keyword and the learned topic. A proposed augmented word2vec model further improves the rhythm and symmetry. Tests show that the generated poems by our approach are mostly satisfying with regulated rules and consistent themes, and 73.42% of them receive an Overall score no less than 3 (the highest score is 5).

Abstract:
ABSTRACT Background: Stunting is a chronic nutritional issue with height or age indicator and Z score less than -2 SD. In order not to cause problems, WHO (World Health Organization) recommends a stunting target of less than 20%. Nganjuk Regency is a district with a stunting prevalence of over 20%. Stunting is related to the postnatal incidence that children under 5 experience. This study had the purpose of determining the effect of postnatal factors on the incidence of stunting in Nganjuk Regency, East Java. Subjects and Method: A case control was conducted in Nganjuk Regency, East Java, from May 15 to June 15, 2020. A sample of 450 children under five was selected using fixed sampling of disease, including 150 stunted children (case) and 300 normal children (control). The dependent variable was stunting. The independent variables were birth length, breastfeeding, and history of infectious diseases. The data were collected by questionnaires and analysed by a multiple logistic regression. Results: Stunting increased with short birth length (OR= 3.14; 95% CI= 2.42 to 3.86; p< 0.0001), no exclusive breastfeeding (OR= 2.31; 95% CI= 1.69 to 2.93; p< 0.001), and infectious disease history (OR= 2.26; 95% CI= 1.61 to 2.91; p< 0.001). Conclusion: Stunting increases with short birth length, no exclusive breastfeeding, and infectious disease history. Abstract:
The Formation of a Common digital space of scientific knowledge (CDSSK) is one of the priorities of the modern period and involves the use of unified approaches to the selection of information, its presentation, navigation, and terminological content. When constructing an subject ontology of the scientific direction — «Microbiology» — we applied a method of statistical calculation of the frequency distribution of keywords (KW) in information arrays formed as a result of thematic search for information on Microbiology. We assume that the frequency of KW occurrence can be considered as indicator of the scientific topic development intensity. The results of the study show that the size of the pool of keywords in categories can serve as an indicator that shows the breadth of the spectrum of research diversity, methods and objects: the more keywords in a category, the greater the diversity of research directions.

Abstract:
Gluten-free (GF) dry egg pappardelle was prepared with tigernut flour (50%), chickpea flour (50%) and pregelatinized TNF (0, 5, 10%), and compared to plain pasta (100% durum wheat semolina). The GF pasta may have a significant higher content of insoluble fibre, minerals and fat rich in oleic acid and a similar protein content. It was not found any clear relationship between the flour functional properties and its proximate composition. The use of PG did not imply an improvement on the firmness but did provide some continuity to the pasta structure. Paynter, Robin A., Celia Fiordalisi, Elizabeth Stoeger, Eileen Erinoff, Robin Featherstone, Christiane Voisin, and Gaelen P. Adam. A Prospective Comparison of Evidence Synthesis Search Strategies Developed With and Without Text-Mining Tools. Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), March 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.23970/ahrqepcmethodsprospectivecomparison.

Full text
Abstract:
Background: In an era of explosive growth in biomedical evidence, improving systematic review (SR) search processes is increasingly critical. Text-mining tools (TMTs) are a potentially powerful resource to improve and streamline search strategy development. Two types of TMTs are especially of interest to searchers: word frequency (useful for identifying most used keyword terms, e.g., PubReminer) and clustering (visualizing common themes, e.g., Carrot2). Objectives: The objectives of this study were to compare the benefits and trade-offs of searches with and without the use of TMTs for evidence synthesis products in real world settings. Specific questions included: (1) Do TMTs decrease the time spent developing search strategies? (2) How do TMTs affect the sensitivity and yield of searches? (3) Do TMTs identify groups of records that can be safely excluded in the search evaluation step? (4) Does the complexity of a systematic review topic affect TMT performance? In addition to quantitative data, we collected librarians' comments on their experiences using TMTs to explore when and how these new tools may be useful in systematic review search¬¬ creation. Methods: In this prospective comparative study, we included seven SR projects, and classified them into simple or complex topics. The project librarian used conventional “usual practice” (UP) methods to create the MEDLINE search strategy, while a paired TMT librarian simultaneously and independently created a search strategy using a variety of TMTs. TMT librarians could choose one or more freely available TMTs per category from a pre-selected list in each of three categories: (1) keyword/phrase tools: AntConc, PubReMiner; (2) subject term tools: MeSH on Demand, PubReMiner, Yale MeSH Analyzer; and (3) strategy evaluation tools: Carrot2, VOSviewer. We collected results from both MEDLINE searches (with and without TMTs), coded every citation’s origin (UP or TMT respectively), deduplicated them, and then sent the citation library to the review team for screening. When the draft report was submitted, we used the final list of included citations to calculate the sensitivity, precision, and number-needed-to-read for each search (with and without TMTs). Separately, we tracked the time spent on various aspects of search creation by each librarian. Simple and complex topics were analyzed separately to provide insight into whether TMTs could be more useful for one type of topic or another. Results: Across all reviews, UP searches seemed to perform better than TMT, but because of the small sample size, none of these differences was statistically significant. UP searches were slightly more sensitive (92% [95% confidence intervals (CI) 85–99%]) than TMT searches (84.9% [95% CI 74.4–95.4%]). The mean number-needed-to-read was 83 (SD 34) for UP and 90 (SD 68) for TMT. Keyword and subject term development using TMTs generally took less time than those developed using UP alone. The average total time was 12 hours (SD 8) to create a complete search strategy by UP librarians, and 5 hours (SD 2) for the TMT librarians. TMTs neither affected search evaluation time nor improved identification of exclusion concepts (irrelevant records) that can be safely removed from the search set. Conclusion: Across all reviews but one, TMT searches were less sensitive than UP searches. For simple SR topics (i.e., single indication–single drug), TMT searches were slightly less sensitive, but reduced time spent in search design. For complex SR topics (e.g., multicomponent interventions), TMT searches were less sensitive than UP searches; nevertheless, in complex reviews, they identified unique eligible citations not found by the UP searches. TMT searches also reduced time spent in search strategy development. For all evidence synthesis types, TMT searches may be more efficient in reviews where comprehensiveness is not paramount, or as an adjunct to UP for evidence syntheses, because they can identify unique includable citations. If TMTs were easier to learn and use, their utility would be increased.
