Abstract:
Education for sustainable development (ESD) is a growing research field, particularly over the last decade. Measuring the level of ESD that is currently embedded in curricula is useful for planning the further implementation of sustainability-related teaching. The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) are a useful benchmark for sustainability topics and so this paper follows a methodology in which a keyword scanning tool was created to quantify the level of SDG coverage within a list of learning outcomes for a module. The aim of the research is to further develop this methodology and compare the results from the keyword tool with results from a survey of the academic staff who deliver the modules. SDG-related keyword lists were collected from multiple sources for a meta-analysis, examining the performance of various lists. These lists were then compiled into one list of over 12,000 SDG keywords and a team of reviewers conducted a critical analysis on the relevancy of the context in which the keywords were found when scanned. This process reduced the list to 222 “crucial keywords” and gave the keywords a relevancy label based on the STARS definitions, the sustainability tracking assessment and rating system. Finally, ChatGPT was also investigated as a method of enriching the critically analysed list with contextually relevant synonyms. A survey was carried out within the College of Science and Engineering at the University of Galway. It asked staff to rate the level of SDG coverage within their own modules, in their own opinion. This gave results which could be compared with the keyword scanning tool. The findings show success in improving the accuracy of the SDG keywords. ChatGPT added synonyms to the crucial keywords identified and this list was the most accurate out of all keyword lists used in the study. Using these keywords and the modules that staff rated in the survey, a correlation was found in the SDG trend.

Storey, Joella E. Public Health &amp Community Medicine Faculty of Medicine UNSW. "The development, pilot and validation of a multicultural cognitive assessment scale." Awarded by:University of New South Wales. School of Public Health and Community Medicine, 2005. http://handle.unsw.edu.au/1959.4/22821.

Full text
Abstract:
Australia is a multicultural society with an ageing population. Diseases such as dementia, which affect older age groups, are therefore becoming increasingly important health issues. Brief cognitive assessment instruments are used to screen older patients for dementia. Many of these instruments have been developed for use in English speaking populations and are not culture-fair or easily translated for use with non-English speakers. To ensure that people from all cultural backgrounds receive optimal health care, primary health care workers need a quick, reliable, and non-threatening dementia screening tool that is valid across cultures and easy to administer in a wide range of settings. This thesis explores the philosophical, scientific, and social antecedents of current approaches to measuring cognition. It argues that these have led to the treatment of culture as an intrinsic human attribute rather than one which describes variations in human experience. The consequences for approaches to the assessment of cognition in people from diverse cultural backgrounds are discussed and a model is presented to provide theoretical support for the development of a multicultural cognitive screening test for dementia. Following a literature review of brief cognitive screening instruments, clock drawing tests, and cross-cultural cognitive tests, two studies are presented. The first study tests the hypothesis that clock drawing is a useful multicultural screening instrument. There were no significant differences between six clock scoring methods for predicting dementia in a sample of 93 patients from non-English speaking backgrounds. While the Wolf-Klein clock scoring method produced the best trade-off between sensitivity (78%) and specificity (58%), this was insufficient to recommend clock drawing as a useful screening test for dementia in a multicultural population. The second study provides support for the hypothesis that a cognitive screening test with good predictive accuracy can be developed and used to screen for dementia in a multicultural population. This study reports the development, pilot, and validation stages of a multicultural cognitive test with excellent diagnostic accuracy (Area under the ROC curve = 0.95) and 89% sensitivity and 98% specificity for detecting dementia. This research has important implications for current clinical practice and the potential to improve public health for many Australians.

Hunley-Stukes, Deborah Arnita. "Professional Development Offerings for Principals in the Commonwealth of Virginia." Diss., Virginia Tech, 2014. http://hdl.handle.net/10919/56690.

Full text
Abstract:
As the instructional leader, principals must engage in on-going professional development training for their learning and to aid in improving student achievement (Grande, 2012). This quantitative study examined the present baseline of professional development offerings in the Commonwealth of Virginia. The research questions that were explored are as follows: What professional development programs do school divisions provide for principals in the Commonwealth of Virginia? What topics are included in the professional development programs? In what format are the topics delivered? What types of professional development programs are offered to support new principals in their role as the instructional leader? What types of professional development programs are offered to support veteran principals in their role as the instructional leader? To what extent are the professional development training/programs offered in the Commonwealth of Virginia aligned to the Interstate School Leaders Licensure Consortium (ISLLC) standards? How do the professional development offerings vary by superintendents' region, urbanicity and division size? Once the data were collected by surveying professional development coordinators or equivalent personnel, the researcher assessed the alignment of the school divisions' professional development offerings with the ISLLC Standards. These standards were designed to provide guidance to state policy makers as they worked to improve educational leadership preparation, licensure, evaluation, and professional development (CCSSO, 2008). The findings were: (1) professional development offerings for principals across the Commonwealth of Virginia are aligned with national standards; (2) school divisions in the Commonwealth provided professional development opportunities for principals with heavy emphasis on instruction as well as shared vision and school culture; (3) there is a low level of differentiation of professional development offerings for principals based on interest or individual need; (4) the professional development training sessions in the Commonwealth mostly consisted of "one shot" sessions with a few on-going learning opportunities; (5) the majority of the professional development sessions offered to principals were provided either by external or in-house presenters with few examples of internal and external partnerships;(6) school divisions across the Commonwealth of Virginia that provided professional development training sessions to principals relied heavily on face-to-face interaction and minimally utilized technology to transform the format of professional development opportunities; and (7) not all divisions maintained records of professional development for principals.<br>Ed. Abstract:
ABSTRACT DEVELOPMENT OF NEW SYNTHETIC METHODOLOGIES FOR ISOQUINOLONE AND ISOINDOLINONE DERIVATIVES M&uuml<br>jde, Berk M.Sc., Department of Chemistry Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Metin Balci July 2010, 146 pages Due to the wide range of physiological activities, heterocycles containing nitrogen and oxygen have always attracted the interest of chemists. The objective of this research is to develop new synthetic routes to the synthesis of isoquinolone and isoindolinone derivatives starting from 2-(2-carboxyethyl)benzoic acid and homophthalic acid, respectively. The half ester produced from 2-(2-carboxyethyl)benzoic acid was an important key compound for the synthesis of new isoquinolone derivatives which are expected to be biologically active. The corresponding acyl azides and isocyanates were generatedwhich might be used as a precursors to construct a variety of isoquinolone derivatives. Transformation of acyl azides into urea derivatives followed by ring-closure under the basic conditions provided isoquinolones. Bromo- and methoxyhomophthalic acid derivatives were synthesized to increase in variety of isoindolinone derivative. Then corresponding anhydrides were generated to further reactions for synthesis of isoindolinone derivatives. Surprisingly, tetrazolinone derivatives are also formed by 1,3 dipolar cycloaddition. Whole products were conscientiously purified and characterized. In addition, the similar methodology which was used for the synthesis of isoquinolone derivatives, was applied to 2-(carboxymethyl)furan-3-carboxylic acid to synthesize new nitrogen and oxygen containing heterocycles.

Abstract:
This thesis presents the development of new acyl anion precursors and their applications. The main concern of this thesis was to make use of acyl anion precursors in catalytic bond forming reactions. Toward this aim, previously known cyanide ion catalyzed cleavage of benzils was investigated in scope and efficiency in unsymmetrical benzoin condensation. Although benzils were proved to be useful entities as acyl anion precursors in benzoin condensation, they suffer some major drawbacks. Therefore acylphosphonates were proposed and investigated as a new generation of acyl anion precursor. They were found to be highly versatile and efficient in both catalytic unsymmetrical benzoin synthesis and other useful transformations.

Full text
Abstract:
Conduritols have attracted a great deal of attention in recent years owing to biological activities exhibited by them and also their usefulness in the synthesis of other natural products and pharmaceuticals. Conduritols show interesting inhibitor activity for some glycosidases and serve as important intermediates in the synthesis of inositols. In this study, novel synthetic strategies leading to highly functionalized cyclohexene derivative containing an aromatic ring, namely phenyl-substituted conduritol was achieved successfully for the first time. As the starting material, substituted benzoquinone derivative, biphenyl-2-ol was used. Bromination of one double bond followed by the reduction of the carbonyl groups served the desired skeleton. Further substitution of the bromine atoms and functionalization of the remaining double bond opened up an entry for the synthesis of substituted conduritol and inositol derivatives. Moreover, by the use of hydroquinone as a starting material we developed new synthetic methodologies for the synthesis of another conduritol derivative, bromo-substituted conduritol for the first time. Oxidation of hydroquinone to the corresponding quinone followed by the bromination of one double bond gave the desired product. After the reduction of the carbonyl groups and protection of the hydroxyl groups, the key compound for the synthesis of bromo-substituted conduritol was obtained. As a result, we enabled to synthesize new conduritol derivatives and we had considerable advance for the synthesis of other conduritol derivatives, inositols and quercitols.

Abstract:
ABSTRACT AGRI-TOURISM: AS A NEW ELEMENT OF RURAL DEVELOPMENT DemirbaS Topcu, Elif MS., City and Regional Planning Department, Urban Design Supervisor: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Baykan G&uuml<br>nay October 2007, 187 Pages This thesis study is developed under the lights of new developments related to rural tourism sector in the world. With the effects of emerging term &lsquo<br>sustainability&rsquo<br>in 1980s, sustainable tourism concept has found new implementation areas. The increasing demand on the tourism activities taking place in rural areas has lead the governments to find ways of benefiting from this tendency in a sustainable way. Since the early 1990s, a new type of rural tourism called as agri-tourism has been developed as a concept that integrates agriculture and tourism activities in the western world. Whether it is evaluated as a tourism or agriculture development element, it is a new element of country planning. Nowadays, it is seen that there is also a new tendency for agri-tourism at local level through local initiatives in Turkey. Although there is still no governmental regulation for agri-tourism activities, political and practical developments demonstrate that the sector should be evaluated as a planning element for Turkey. The main purpose of this study is examining the rural development element characteristic of agri-tourism concept as an element for enhancing the rural tourism activities in Turkey. To achieve the purpose, two examples from EU- Lublin and Tuscany Regions were examined to understand the dynamics of agri-tourism as a planning element. For these study interpretative-comparative-textual method is used. Accordingly, the present condition in Turkey is evaluated through the obtained data and SWOT Analysis method was employed for analyzing the data. Accordingly, some suggestions are presented for developing agri-tourism sector in Turkey.

Abstract:
At the conference on Sustainable Development in 2012, the United Nations (UN) launched a set of 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) to be achieved until 2030. The purpose is that all organizations, including Universities and Educational Institutions, redefine their strategy and contribute to a more sustainable future. The role of Higher Education Institutions (HEI) becomes crucial for the implementation of the goals stipulated by the UN and the achievement of the 17 SDG. On the one hand, HEI are responsible for incorporating the SDG in their activities, such as the research produced, at education, and in the management strategy and interaction with society. It’s undoubtedly very important to analyze the competences that HEI are promoting, their commitment and their role as the way of knowledge dissemination for future agents of change – the students. This project arises as a way to improve an existing Business Intelligence tool at ISEG, which uses dashboards to map and represent information regarding academic activities, and which is responsible for classifying these activities in the SDG. At the existing solution, the result showed a high number of activities classified in the SDG, which awakened our analysis sense. As the presence of false positives was confirmed, new approaches and necessary adjustments to the algorithm for classifying activities were analyzed. After some tests to ensure that there was justification for new approaches to be implemented. The final solution was found and that includes a new classification condition and, also, an adaptation to the approach suggested by Luhn (1958). Based on more sustained information, it was possible to reach a solution that consolidated the information that the dashboards show, thus in number of contributions such as their evolution over time, which will provide to ISEG more reliable data, facilitating the Institution's decision-making and strategic planning.<br>info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersion

Starnes, Scott A. "Professional Development for Teachers: Perceptions of Northeast Tennessee Principals." Digital Commons @ East Tennessee State University, 2011. https://dc.etsu.edu/etd/1333.

Full text
Abstract:
This study was designed for the purpose of quantitatively examining the perceptions of northeast Tennessee principals as they compared their system's professional development plans to Learning Forward's, formerly the National Staff Development Council, recently revised definition of professional development. The theoretical frameworks for this study lay in the recent works of Schlechty (2009) on transforming schools into learning organizations, and Senge (2006), who provided the essential principles of learning organizations. Data were collected from 124 principals in 19 school systems in northeast Tennessee, using a 4-point Internet based survey created by Learning Forward to evaluate perceptions of how well professional development programs address the individual components of Learning Forward's revised definition of professional development. Findings included no statistical significance between the size of the school and perception of how comprehensive, sustained, and intensive the professional development plan was or the method used to implement the professional development plan. Additionally, there was no significant difference between the perceptions of comprehensive, sustained, and intensive professional development and the method used to implement the professional development plan. Elementary school principals believed that their professional development plans were more comprehensive, sustained, and intensive than did their secondary school principal colleagues. However, there was no significant difference between their perceptions of methods for implementing professional development plans.

Full text
Abstract:
This volume takes readers on a journey into a central aspect of life in China, so-called “self-development.” Whether prompted by the cultural values of educational success, capitalist competition for wealth, or the Chinese Communist Party’s prescriptions for “good” citizenship, few people in China are immune to the impetus to “improve” themselves and thus bring about a better future. Contributors to this volume, interdisciplinary sinologists, draw on materials from practices in education, labor, and self-help as they spotlight “keywords” by which individuals make sense of their self-development journeys – including new forms of resistance to social norms. Rather than simply classify self-development by different activities or groups, the chapters map together ethical features that cut across Chinese society. Contributors explore the nuanced and ambivalent attitudes towards self-development of individuals navigating various requirements and pursuing more complete forms of existence. In so doing, they offer a snapshot of China that intersects with timely global concerns.

Abstract:
What did it mean to be a stranger in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England? How were other nations, cultures, and religions perceived? What happened when individuals moved between languages, countries, religions, and spaces? Keywords of Identity, Race, and Human Mobility analyses a selection of terms that were central to the conceptualisation of identity, race, migration, and transculturality in the early modern period. In many cases, the concepts and debates that they embody – or sometimes subsume – came to play crucial roles in the articulation of identity, rights, and power in subsequent periods. Together, the essays in this volume provide an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the development of these formative issues.

Abstract:
The multidimensional open epistemological active network MOGAN is the basis for the transition to a qualitatively new level of creating logical artificial intelligence. Mivar databases and rules became the foundation for the creation of MOGAN. The results of the analysis and generalization of data representation structures of various data models are presented: from relational to "Entity — Relationship" (ER-model). On the basis of this generalization, a new model of data and rules is created: the mivar information space "Thing-Property-Relation". The logic-computational processing of data in this new model of data and rules is shown, which has linear computational complexity relative to the number of rules. MOGAN is a development of Rule - Based Systems and allows you to quickly and easily design algorithms and work with logical reasoning in the "If..., Then..." format. An example of creating a mivar expert system for solving problems in the model area "Geometry"is given. Mivar databases and rules can be used to model cause-and-effect relationships in different subject areas and to create knowledge bases of new-generation applied artificial intelligence systems and real-time mivar expert systems with the transition to"Big Knowledge". &#x0D; The textbook in the field of training "Computer Science and Computer Engineering" is intended for students, bachelors, undergraduates, postgraduates studying artificial intelligence methods used in information processing and management systems, as well as for users and specialists who create mivar knowledge models, expert systems, automated control systems and decision support systems. &#x0D; Keywords: cybernetics, artificial intelligence, mivar, mivar networks, databases, data models, expert system, intelligent systems, multidimensional open epistemological active network, MOGAN, MIPRA, KESMI, Wi!Mi, Razumator, knowledge bases, knowledge graphs, knowledge networks, Big knowledge, products, logical inference, decision support systems, decision-making systems, autonomous robots, recommendation systems, universal knowledge tools, expert system designers, logical artificial intelligence.

Abstract:
This book presents the proceedings of the conference held in Florence on 7 and 8 May 2009 upon the conclusion of a MUIR study. The inspiration behind it can be summarised in two keywords. The first is "modernity", because it focuses on the sectors of criminal liability of the doctor and the entrepreneur, those that have been most dramatically affected by social change and technological developments, straining to the limit the "classic" configuration of criminal law categories. The second is "case law", in the sense that we have sought to focus on the reality of living law and to investigate the concepts of the causality, blame and complicity of individuals as they are actually illustrated by precedents.

Abstract:
The purpose of the study is to determine the sufficiency of measures to support and stimulate innovation in the agricultural sector of Russia to ensure its sustainable development. To determine the information base, a search was used by keywords using general scientific research methods, as well as their expert selection, analysis, comparison and systematization was performed. To identify regulatory legal acts that govern innovation activities, a keyword search was used, the keywords were selected by an expert method. The identified documents were textual and logical analyzed and structuring by a graphical method to facilitate further analysis were performed. Analysis revealed that there are no separate programs aimed at the growth of innovative activity in the agricultural sector, but support is provided for by the activities of state programs and national projects. A number of national projects and programs are being implemented that are focused on achieving national goals, scientific and technological development, development of territories, and stimulation of innovative and entrepreneurial initiatives. Support measures under these programs and projects contribute to the development of innovation activities and the organization of highly productive, efficient and resource-saving agricultural production. Because stimulation of innovation activities in many countries is a factor that determines the global competitiveness of national economies, the sustainable development of the agricultural sector and the introduction of resource-saving techniques taking into account environmental protection, study of potential measures to support innovation in the industry is both timely, and relevant and will contribute to the growth of innovation activity. The novelty of the study lies in the analysis of support measures within the framework of programs and national projects for the presence of activities that provide support for innovation in agriculture, as well as the development of territories and scientific and technological progress, upgrading of production and forcing the entrepreneurial initiative.

Abstract:
Aim/Purpose: Participants will learn various digital tools to assist them in the discovery of appropriate keywords for their own research and writings as well as in teaching. Background: Experiences teaching undergraduates and graduate students information literacy and retrieval have identified several areas where students have problems in searching databases because of misconceptions as to what they should be using as keywords. Methodology: The use of visual tools to identify keywords. Contribution: The visualization software demonstrated and used in the workshop can enhance the literature review portion of any research project. Recommendations for Practitioners: With the vast expansion of the amount of information available via the Web, it is time to go back to a more considered approach to keywords (as in the past when searching a database could cost hundreds of dollars) rather than just the first words that might occur. Recommendations for Researchers: In addition to using these techniques in your own research, teaching them to research assistants and students and not assume that everyone knows how to use keywords. Impact on Society: These same approaches can be used in continuing education or by independent scholars. Future Research: We plan to demonstrate at the conclusion of the workshop visual tools that can take it another step and help in organizing sources.

Abstract:
This paper aims to present different patterns of keyword evolution and their co-occurrences in publications dedicated to energy sales forecasting in a sustainable development context, and indexed in the Scopus and Web of Science Core Collection (WoS) databases. The adopted method is the Structured Literature Review (SLR) variation method with queries supported by the Bibliometrix software as the analytical and visualisation tool. The number of publications has evolved in the context of indexed keywords, which are related. Research on energy sales forecasting and sustainability has earned considerable attention in multiple academic fields. Proposed queries syntaxes and searching procedures in Scopus and Web of Science databases present limitations related to the subscription of these databases and the interchangeability of syntaxes. The novelty of this study is based on the results and their presentation with the usage of Bibliometrix as a tool for the exploration of two independent scientific areas, namely energy sales forecasting and sustainability, and the presentation of connections between them. This paper can inspire researchers to develop the subject of energy sales forecasting evolution in a sustainable development context, as well as business practitioners interested in energy sector adaptation visible in keyword changes in their decision-making processes.

Abstract:
Stylistics can be considered as a field of study that crosses text theory, linguistics, and journalism. Although different schools create different approaches to stylistics, each stylistic approach will include in its paradigm some basic factors, such as the reader and the author. This article shows how these factors interact with each other and, ultimately, create the basis for the emergence of a new field in Ukrainian journalism – interactive stylistics. The study is devoted to interactive stylistics, which is considering as a field based on the text’s own pragmatic potential in the context of modern humanities methodology. This discipline acquires a new function: to observe and interpretively explain, firstly, the meaning of interactions between agents (author and recipient) in communication, mediated by the media text, and, secondly, the effect that this interaction brings. At the center of interactive stylistics is the author (journalist), who through the text discusses the content of interactions in relation to his own interests, as well as cultural, social and historical contracts with the reader. The meaning of the expressions used and the general meaning of such interactions arises in the context of communication events, based on the perception of the subjects of communication with the surrounding reality through the assimilation and adequate interpretation of new information. In modern Ukrainian science of communication, the study of interactive stylistics acquires significant potential. It profiles itself in the context of interdisciplinarity and aims to explore interactivity, interpretability, as well as intertextuality (in specific media texts or interdiscourse dialogue). Interactive stylistics is able to meet the needs of communicators as a useful source of instructions on how communication subjects interact and has a chance to achieve success both at the domestic and international scientific level. Due to its scientific perspective of applying the above-mentioned methodology, it is harmoniously integrated among the tendentious linguistic and broader social science and humanitarian disciplines in Ukrainian scientific research or in the wider international context. Keywords: interactive stylistics; stylistics; reverse communication; style; interactivity; media text.

Abstract:
The article analyzes the state of development of Ukrainian advertising in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war. Studying the work of Ukrainian advertising agencies during the war is a unique experience of Ukrainian specialists during the war. The article emphasizes that Ukrainian advertising agencies have become an example for global corporations with their resilience and courage. The study of the place of Ukrainian advertising agencies in the world system made it possible to state that the domestic industry is developing in step with the world one. This was facilitated by the fact that Ukrainians quickly adapt to modern technologies and catch global trends. In some areas of advertising, Ukrainian agencies are one step ahead of European and American ones. Communication with Ukrainian heads of advertising campaigns, marketers and target specialists, who were directly involved in the “rescue” of companies at the beginning of the war, made it possible to find out how the business development strategy changed, what tactical solutions they used at the beginning of the war, and how they optimized the work of the team. The results of the research give grounds for asserting that in the conditions of the Russian-Ukrainian war, many brands have developed new rules for content and communication in social networks. The content strategy of brands needs maximum adaptation to new realities. The traditional division of content into branded, selling, fan and interactive content is losing its relevance. This market niche is occupied by social, supportive and useful content. In particular, as an example of social brand content, we can name: the national position of an advertising agency, support of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, assistance to consumers, new adapted services, HR information about agency support, assistance to temporarily displaced persons, volunteering. Ukrainian advertising agencies were able to quickly adapt to the conditions of the war, entered international markets, took care of their employees and continue their work. Keywords: advertising, agencies, Russian-Ukrainian war, social networks, work with clients, personnel problems.

Abstract:
This article explores the current status and future directions of minoritised language education and the use of technology in low- and middle-income countries. Our literature review of available academic sources in multiple languages reveals a lack of evidence on the use of technology in minoritised language education across different countries, especially multilingual contexts with greater linguistic diversity. To understand the issue in greater detail and to offer recommendations informed by current practice, we then conducted interviews and a collaborative workshop with four organisations with relevant EdTech initiatives. The analysis covers facilitating and limiting factors these organisations have encountered, as well as the impact of good practice initiatives on learners and society at large. We conclude by identifying the practical, policy, and research properties in the development of minoritised language education and technology. Abstract:
The sub-Saharan Africa region is trapped in a learning crisis with devastating implications for children. The Covid-19 pandemic further exacerbated the situation, with children losing an estimated equivalent of an additional year’s learning. Not addressing the regional learning crisis will have a detrimental impact on economic development and well-being and risks restricting future national and regional economic growth and productivity and fuelling social unrest. Education research has shown that good quality education system data, when judiciously used, can support improved learning outcomes among a host of other positive impacts on national education systems. Abstract:
This paper comparatively examines the ruling religious populist governments in Turkey and Pakistan through a theoretical framework that focuses on populists’ promises, their compromises, and their attacks on democratic institutions. Through our three-legged framework, we examine how these religious populists behave in power and how strategic necessities, the realities of governing, and structural constraints shape their policies. Similar to the other populists in other parts of the world, before coming to power, Islamist populists make sweeping promises to the people and quick fixes to major problems of the country—most famously, quick and substantial economic development. While they may want to retain their uncompromising style and lofty goals, the realities of governing force populists to make serious compromises to their designated ‘enemies’ and on their values once they are in power. Finally, like other authoritarian politicians, Islamist populists attack formal institutions of democracy such as the judiciary, the media, and civil society; they politicize them, evacuate them, and eventually capture them from within.
