Das, Nandini, João Vicente Melo, Lauren Working, and Haig Smith. Keywords of Identity, Race, and Human Mobility in Early Modern England. Amsterdam University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.5117/9789463720748.

Full text
Abstract:
What did it mean to be a stranger in sixteenth- and seventeenth-century England? How were other nations, cultures, and religions perceived? What happened when individuals moved between languages, countries, religions, and spaces? Keywords of Identity, Race, and Human Mobility analyses a selection of terms that were central to the conceptualisation of identity, race, migration, and transculturality in the early modern period. In many cases, the concepts and debates that they embody – or sometimes subsume – came to play crucial roles in the articulation of identity, rights, and power in subsequent periods. Together, the essays in this volume provide an invaluable resource for anyone interested in the development of these formative issues.

Abstract:
This book presents the proceedings of the conference held in Florence on 7 and 8 May 2009 upon the conclusion of a MUIR study. The inspiration behind it can be summarised in two keywords. The first is "modernity", because it focuses on the sectors of criminal liability of the doctor and the entrepreneur, those that have been most dramatically affected by social change and technological developments, straining to the limit the "classic" configuration of criminal law categories. The second is "case law", in the sense that we have sought to focus on the reality of living law and to investigate the concepts of the causality, blame and complicity of individuals as they are actually illustrated by precedents.

Abstract:
Most of the papers collected in this book resulted from presentations and discussions undertaken during the V Lablita Workshop that took place at the Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil, on August 23-25, 2011. The workshop was held in conjunction with the II Brazilian Seminar on Pragmatics and Prosody. The guiding themes for the joint event were illocution, modality, attitude, information patterning and speech annotation. Thus, all papers presented here are concerned with theoretical and methodological issues related to the study of speech. Among the papers in this volume, there are different theoretical orientations, which are mirrored through the methodological designs of studies pursued. However, all papers are based on the analysis of actual speech, be it from corpora or from experimental contexts trying to emulate natural speech. Prosody is the keyword that comes out from all the papers in this publication, which indicates the high standing of this category in relation to studies that are geared towards the understanding of major elements that are constitutive of the structuring of speech.

Full text
Abstract:
The Oxford Handbook of Comparative Political Theory provides an entry point into this burgeoning field by both synthesizing and challenging the terms that motivate it. The handbook demonstrates how mainstream political theory can and must be enriched through attention to genuinely global, rather than parochially Euro-American, contributions to political thinking. Entries emphasize exploration of substantive questions about political life—ranging from domination to political economy to the politics of knowledge—in a range of global contexts, with attention to whether and how those questions may be shared, contested, or reformulated across differences of time, space, and experience. They connect comparative political theory to cognate disciplines including postcolonial theory, area studies, and comparative politics. Creative organizational tools such as tags and keywords aid in navigation of the handbook to help readers trace disruptions, thematic connections, contrasts, and geographic affinities across entries.

Full text
Abstract:
This book, consisting of nine chapters, is the result of multiple theoretical and empirical research carried out by students in the post-graduate program in education (PPGE) at Universidade Nove de Julho (UNINOVE). The object of the research was to carry out a study on the new models of higher education, implemented in Brazil between 2005 and 2013. The studies carried out focus, above all, on institutional principles, student access policies, the internationalization process, quota policies, and mechanisms for inclusion in higher education for public school students. These were studies that used, as a theoretical basis, epistemological models of a counter-hegemonic character and, from a methodological point of view, an essentially qualitative approach. The studies showed, generically, the possibility of building other models of higher education capable of overcoming the elitism, characteristic of traditional universities. The inclusion of students from public school reveals that it is possible to make higher education a right for everyone, democratizing it, in the sense of establishing social and cognitive justice. Keywords: higher education; new models; empirical research; Brazil; social and cognitive justice.

Abstract:
This chapter presents Cognitive Linguistics as a framework for investigating World Englishes. In particular, it aims to show that the theoretical and methodological apparatus of Cognitive Linguistics provides a suitable handle for analyzing the sociocultural dimension of language and language variation. For this purpose, case studies of first and second language varieties of English are highlighted in which cognitive-linguistic notions have been fruitfully applied in this respect. The focus is on allophone variation from the perspective of the associated sociocultural meaning, the contribution of conceptual-metaphor and cultural-keyword research to the comparative study of varieties of English, and the manifestation of ‘cultural models’ in varieties that are rooted in markedly different cultural contexts.

Abstract:
The tsetse fly is a pan-African insect that bites an infective forest animal and ingests blood filled with invisible parasites, which it carries and transmits into cattle and people as it bites them, leading to n'gana (animal trypanosomiasis) and sleeping sickness. This book examines how the presence of the tsetse fly turned the forests of Zimbabwe and southern Africa into an open laboratory where African knowledge formed the basis of colonial tsetse control policies. The book traces the pestiferous work that an indefatigable, mobile insect does through its movements, and the work done by humans to control it. The book restores the central role not just of African labor but of African intellect in the production of knowledge about the tsetse fly. It describes how European colonizers built on and beyond this knowledge toward destructive and toxic methods, including cutting down entire forests, forced “prophylactic” resettlement, massive destruction of wild animals, and extensive spraying of organochlorine pesticides. Throughout, the book uses African terms to describe the African experience, taking vernacular concepts as starting points in writing a narrative of ruzivo (knowledge) rather than viewing Africa through foreign keywords.

This mechanism, which is the basis of a computing style known as generic programming, allows whole families of functions and classes to be easily written. It is described early in the chapter. A host of extremely useful template functions and classes is universally available in the C++ standard library, including container classes (vector, list, set, and map) and algorithms used to sort, shuffle, and otherwise manipulate or query their contents. The chapter closes with an introduction to the newer constructs of modern C++: smart pointers, lambda functions, the auto keyword, range-based for loops, and more. An application to group theory is explored in the exercises.

Abstract:
The chapter analyses the quality of research in terms of quality of articles and of journals by using a quality index. It uses two-dimension indicators to judge the quality of articles, that is, citations (scholarly) and readership, which is the number of hits an article receives in a simple Google keyword search. The quality of a journal is measured in terms of three dimensions: its presence over time, its presence across space, and its depth. The study took 21351 journal articles from 1006 journals (902 journals from Scopus and 104 journals from ISID for five-year period, 2010–14. It emerged that India’s social science research (SSR) contributes more to public debates and policy formulations and relatively less in pushing the frontiers of knowledge for further research.

Lim, Song Hwee. Taiwan Cinema as Soft Power. Oxford University Press, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780197503379.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
This book seeks to understand cinema as a form of soft-power tool. It proposes Taiwan as a prime example of cinema’s effect in assisting a small nation gain prominence on the international stage. It maps Taiwan’s cinematic output in the twenty-first century through the three keywords in the book’s subtitle—authorship, transnationality, historiography. Its object of analysis is the legacy of Taiwan New Cinema, a movement that began in the early 1980s and has had a lasting impact upon filmmakers and cinephiles worldwide for nearly 40 years. By examining case studies that include Hou Hsiao-hsien, Ang Lee, and Tsai Ming-liang, this book suggests that authorship is central to Taiwan cinema’s ability to transcend borders to the extent that the historiographical writing of Taiwan cinema has to be reimagined. It also looks at the scaling down of soft power from the global to the regional via a cultural imaginary called “little freshness,” which describes films and cultural products from Taiwan that have become hugely popular in China and Hong Kong. In presenting Taiwan cinema’s significance as a case of a small nation with enormous soft power, this book hopes to recast the terms and stakes of both cinema studies and soft power studies in academia.

Quint, David. Inside Paradise Lost. Princeton University Press, 2017. http://dx.doi.org/10.23943/princeton/9780691161914.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Inside “Paradise Lost” opens up new readings and ways of reading John Milton's epic poem by mapping out the intricacies of its narrative and symbolic designs and by revealing and exploring the deeply allusive texture of its verse. This book demonstrates how systematic patterns of allusion and keywords give structure and coherence both to individual books of Paradise Lost and to the overarching relationship among its books and episodes. Looking at poems within the poem, the book provides new interpretations as he takes readers through the major subjects of Paradise Lost—its relationship to epic tradition and the Bible, its cosmology and politics, and its dramas of human choice. The book shows how Milton radically revises the epic tradition and the Genesis story itself by arguing that it is better to create than destroy, by telling the reader to make love, not war, and by appearing to ratify Adam's decision to fall and die with his wife. The Milton of this Paradise Lost is a Christian humanist who believes in the power and freedom of human moral agency. As this indispensable guide and reference takes us inside the poetry of Milton's masterpiece, Paradise Lost reveals itself in new formal configurations and unsuspected levels of meaning and design.

Massumi, Brian. Parables for the Virtual. Duke University Press, 2021. http://dx.doi.org/10.1215/9781478021971.

Full text
Abstract:
Since its publication twenty years ago, Brian Massumi's pioneering Parables for the Virtual has become an essential text for interdisciplinary scholars across the humanities. Massumi views the body and media such as television, film, and the internet as cultural formations that operate on multiple registers of sensation. Renewing and assessing William James's radical empiricism and Henri Bergson's philosophy of perception through the filter of the postwar French philosophy of Deleuze, Guattari, and Foucault, Massumi links a cultural logic of variation to questions of movement, affect, and sensation. Replacing the traditional opposition of literal and figural with distinctions between stasis and motion and between actual and virtual, Massumi tackles related theoretical issues by applying them to cultural mediums as diverse as architecture, body art, the digital art of Stelarc, and Ronald Reagan's acting career. The result is an intriguing combination of cultural theory, science, and philosophy that asserts itself in a crystalline and multifaceted argument. This twentieth anniversary edition includes a new preface in which Massumi situates the book in relation to developments since its publication and outlines the evolution of its main concepts. It also includes two short texts, “Keywords for Affect” and “Missed Conceptions about Affect,” in which Massumi explicates his approach to affect in ways that emphasize the book's political and philosophical stakes.

This chapter argues that George Eliot too conflated religion with race as a resource for secular individualism, but also that she thought more deeply about what consequences this move held for a major liberal keyword: reading. Eliot’s The Spanish Gypsy (1868) and Daniel Deronda (1876) both stage a character’s recuperation of ethnic inheritance (Gypsy and Jewish, respectively) but only in Deronda does this recuperation successfully yield a many-sided individuality. This is because, as Eliot sees it, Judaism’s scriptural dimension allows one to fashion an idiosyncratic relationship to its racial history. Yet this valorization of scripture as the site at which one can personalize one’s relationship to tradition also runs up against Eliot’s long-standing wariness toward Protestant private interpretation—a fact that Deronda tries to get around by evaluating characters, not according to how well they interpret texts, but by how they relate to books as material metonyms of the past.

Yu, Ning. The Moral Metaphor System. Oxford University PressOxford, 2022. http://dx.doi.org/10.1093/oso/9780192866325.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
Abstract This book presents a study of moral metaphors in English and Chinese, applying cognitive linguistics’ conceptual metaphor theory (CMT) to a comparative study of linguistic manifestation of the moral metaphor system rooted in the domains of bodily and physical experience. It intends to shed light on the metaphorical nature of moral cognition and how it is systematically manifested in language. The study sets out with the central goal to contribute to the discovery of potential commonalities that define moral cognition in general as well as the detection of possible differences that characterize distinct cultures concerning moral cognition. It probes into moral cognition at the cultural level as reflected in language, based on linguistic evidence from both English and Chinese and, to a limited extent, multimodal evidence from the corresponding cultures. The moral metaphor system under study is taken as consisting of three major subsystems, named in a shorthand fashion as “physical”, “visual”, and “spatial”. The three subsystems are clusters of conceptual metaphors, whose source concepts are from domains of embodied experiences in the physical world, and which are formulated in contrastive categories with bipolar values for the target concepts moral and immoral. The study is characterized by two keywords: system and systematicity. The former refers to the fact that metaphors (conceptual and linguistic) are connected in networks; the latter refers to the need that metaphors should be studied in such networks.

Full text
Abstract:
This book proposes to answer the pressing philosophical as well as psychological question of why people repeat themselves. It redefines folklore as traditional knowledge that serves this need in human lives and develops a "practice theory" around this idea. Practice, more than other suggested keywords of performance or enactment in social theory, connects localized culture with the vernacular idea that "this is the way we do things around here." The term invites study of what people do repeatedly to understand what they have in "mind." Demonstrating the application of this theory in folkloristic studies, Bronner offers four provocative case studies of psychocultural meanings that arise from traditional "frames of action" and address issues of the day: labeling of boogiemen to express fear of sexual molestation, connecting "wild child" beliefs to school shootings, identifying the crisis of masculinity in adolescent expression. Turning his analysis to the analysts of tradition, Bronner uses practice theory to evaluate the agenda of folklorists in shaping perceptions of tradition-centered "folk societies" such as the Amish, unpacking the culturally based rationale of public folklore programming, interpreting the evolving idea of folk museums in a digital world, and assessing how the terms folklorists use and the things they do affect how people think about tradition. This is a book intended to think about what people do in the name of tradition, and why.

Mac Carthy, Ita. The Grace of the Italian Renaissance. Princeton University Press, 2020. http://dx.doi.org/10.23943/princeton/9780691175485.001.0001.

Full text
Abstract:
‘Grace’ emerges as a keyword in the culture and society of sixteenth-century Italy. This book explores how it conveys and connects the most pressing ethical, social and aesthetic concerns of an age concerned with the reactivation of ancient ideas in a changing world. The book reassesses artists such as Francesco del Cossa, Raphael, and Michelangelo and explores anew writers like Castiglione, Ariosto, Tullia d'Aragona, and Vittoria Colonna. It shows how these artists and writers put grace at the heart of their work. The book argues that grace came to be as contested as it was prized across a range of Renaissance Italian contexts. It characterised emerging styles in literature and the visual arts, shaped ideas about how best to behave at court and sparked controversy about social harmony and human salvation. For all these reasons, grace abounded in the Italian Renaissance, yet it remained hard to define. The book explores what grace meant to theologians, artists, writers, and philosophers, showing how it influenced their thinking about themselves, each other and the world. It portrays grace not as a stable formula of expression but as a web of interventions in culture and society.

Full text
Abstract:
This book’s title is meant to be interpreted almost verbatim. “Enjoy” is its keyword, motivation, and spirit. Universe refers to all “observable things,” ranging in size from the entire cosmos to elementary particles, and bracketing other fundamental objects such as black holes. Observable things understandable by most people, that is, which excludes economics, politics, and other decreasingly alluring disciplines. And you can only enjoy our Universe, claims of “Multiverses” being so far closer to fiction than to science. In that spirit, only subjects that we understand fairly well are discussed, admitting our ignorance wherever it prevails. Some of this ignorance is only the author’s, thus the exclusion of many enjoyable disciplines, such as condensed matter physics, or the life sciences. In descriptions of our Universe and of the way it functions, beauty is a recurring word. In an attempt to draw the eyes of the beholder, it is very profusely illustrated, often with tongue in cheek. Admiring the beauty of this Universe of yours and trying to understand how it works is indeed extremely enjoyable. In this guided visit to our Universe, I intend to share this joy with the reader.

Full text
Abstract:
This is a book about the architecture of the speech-production planning process and speech motor control. It is written in reaction to a debate in the literature about the nature of phonological representations, which are proposed to be spatiotemporal by some, and symbolic (atemporal) by others. Making this choice about the nature of phonological representation has several fundamental implications for the architecture of the speech-production planning system, notably with regard to the number of planning components and the type of timing mechanisms. In systems with symbolic phonological representations, a separate phonetic planning component is required for speakers to plan the details of surface timing and spatial characteristics for each context. In contrast, the Articulatory Phonology system, which proposes spatiotemporal phonological representations, has a very different architecture, with fewer components. These contrasting assumptions about the spatiotemporal vs. symbolic nature of phonological representations have important consequences for how these two approaches deal with timing issues. This is because time is intrinsic to phonological representations in Articulatory Phonology, but is not part of symbolic phonology. These two proposals are evaluated in light of existing literature on speech and non-speech timing behavior. Evidence that challenges the Articulatory Phonology model inspired a sketch of a new model of the production process, based on symbolic phonological representations and a separate phonetic planning component to specify surface-timing details. This approach provides an appropriate account of what is known about motor timing in general and speech timing in particular. Keywords

Abstract:
This chapter discusses the collaborative, cyclical relationship between composition and instrument development as it follows the journey from technically extreme compositions, via the design and manufacture of the Howarth-Redgate oboe, to composers’ responses to this new instrument. The chapter takes as its starting point the extreme technical demands that result from the development of extended techniques—for example, the problems with the standard instrument’s keywork that stem from such compositional approaches. Then, through reference to Roger Redgate’s Ausgangspunkte and other works that sit at the limits of the playable, the chapter explores the idea of compositional risk-taking as a forum for collaboration. Following a discussion of the first compositional explorations of the redesigned oboe, the potential for further development of the instrument is considered.

Abstract:
This book provides the first ever transnational and longue-durée intellectual history of a highly influential but largely understudied modern phrase: esprit de corps. A strong attachment and dedication among the members of a community of practice or a body politic, esprit de corps can be perceived as beneficial (collective élan) or detrimental (groupthink). As a polemical argumentative signifier, esprit de corps has played a significant role in the cultural and political history of the last 300 years: the idea was influential and debated during the European secularisation of education in the eighteenth-century, during the French Revolution, during the United States process of Independence, and the French Empire. It was praised by British colonialists, French sociologists, and during the World Wars. It was instrumental during the rise of administrative nation-states and the triumph of corporate capitalism. ‘Esprit de corps’ is today a keyword in nationalist and managerial discourses. Born in eighteenth-century France in military as well as political discourse, the phrase and its implications were over the centuries an important matter of debate for major thinkers and politicians: d’Alembert, Voltaire, Rousseau, Lord Chesterfield, Bentham, the Founding Fathers, Sieyès, Mirabeau, British MPs, Napoleon, Hegel, Tocqueville, Durkheim, Waldeck-Rousseau, de Gaulle, Orwell, Bourdieu, Deleuze & Guattari, etc. For some of them, esprit de corps is the very engine of History. In the end, this book a cautionary analysis of past and current ideologies of ultra-unified human ensembles, a recurrent historical and theoretical fabulation the author calls ensemblance.

Abstract:
Science and academia have long been shaped by international competition, providing nations with strategic advantages in economic, technological, and military domains. Today, as globalization intensifies, academic and research institutions face complex security challenges, including cyber threats, foreign interference, and hybrid warfare. These risks jeopardize intellectual property, research integrity, and institutional autonomy. To address these threats, institutions must implement robust internal risk management systems, minimize vulnerabilities in supply chains, and reduce dependency on foreign actors. Higher education institutions (HEIs) are increasingly adopting an entrepreneurial approach, balancing traditional academic missions with the need to generate revenue, enhance global competitiveness, and build resilience. This ""entrepreneurial university"" concept aligns economic goals with academic innovation, enabling HEIs to adapt to globalization while maintaining their reputations and operational independence. Transnational education, student mobility, and international collaborations highlight these trends, underscoring the need for strong governance, quality assurance, and cultural adaptability. This handbook, developed through Latvian-Ukrainian collaboration, offers a comprehensive framework to strengthen risk management and resilience in academic and research environments. It draws on Ukraine’s experiences in maintaining educational continuity during conflict, providing actionable insights for institutions globally. Key areas include: * Advanced Risk Management: Identifying and mitigating institution-specific risks. Institutional Resilience: Strengthening infrastructure, personnel, and research systems. Security and Continuity Planning: Ensuring crisis preparedness and operational continuity. Case Studies: Practical applications from real-world scenarios. The handbook emphasizes a proactive approach, urging institutions to establish governance structures, designate risk managers, and foster a security-conscious culture. By adopting these practices, academic and research institutions can safeguard their missions, protect intellectual assets, and build resilience against emerging challenges in a rapidly changing global landscape. Abstract:
The rise of globalisation has made it necessary for breakthroughs in scientific and technological fields in the direction of their usability, utilising efficient management practices and ethical methods. This, in turn, has powerfully stimulated the opening of new avenues of study to meet the developing patterns across all industries and service sectors over time. The progress and development that have resulted from the contributions of research done in the past have been only temporary. However, it was unable to fully measure the methodical sequences in terms of progress throughout to fulfil humanity's general needs in terms of establishing sustenance and stability. This was a limitation of the technology. This may be due to a lack of investigations being integrated across different fields and their integrity being maintained towards increasing overall societal welfare. In addition, the problem persists because of a concentration on a single discipline, which means that the integration viewpoint towards multiple streams, their research fields, and their contributions is not entirely integrated. The point of carrying out any study is to convey knowledge, and this process is fundamentally intertwined with various applications to attain socio-economic development in communities. In addition, the present state of the world is in a constant state of flux, which calls for well-balanced expansion and dissemination in every facet of adequate means of subsistence. As a result, maintaining one's lifestyle will become more difficult in the years to come. This forces the sharing of information via the gathering of research that spans inter-disciplines and multi-disciplines to advance socio-economic growth as a whole. Keeping these considerations in mind, the international conference's purpose is to significantly impact the paradigms governing the most cutting-edge research in engineering and technology. In order to assist the rearing of total sustenance and bring about a remarkable development capable of meeting the difficulties of the future, the conference seeks to have knowledge integration via an awareness of the many studies. The Sri Venkateshwaraa College of Technology conceived of and organised the international conference, which took place on March 26 and 27, 2022, and was aimed at evaluating and collecting the engineering and technological contributions made across the country the world in preparation for the dissemination of knowledge. Abstract:
The research carried out in the monograph aimed to create a measurement and interpretation system which is to obtain reliable results of well logging with the accuracy of laboratory measurements. Continuous core measurements allow for the generation of logging results without the impact of the borehole and facilitate the depth matching of the core to well log data. Four main chapters can be distinguished in this work: research methodology with a description of the devices used; partial results of core measurements made on various types of rocks; a proposal for a research system, and comprehensive data interpretation for selected boreholes. The methodological part concerned the description of the equipment for continuous measurements of cores in the field of natural gamma radioactivity (K, U, Th) with the application for bulk density measurements using the gamma-gamma method, X-ray fl uorescence spectrometers (XRF) for measuring the chemical composition of rocks and computed tomography (CT) for imaging of the core structure as well as determination of radiological density in Hounsfi eld units (HU). Rock studies were carried out on material representing formations of diff erent lithologies, such as shales, sandstones, limestones, dolomites, anhydrite, siltstones and heterolithic sandstone-siltstone-claystone complexes. The results of measurements made using individual methods have been described in detail and compared with the results of laboratory measurements and well logging data. Test measurements with data processing and interpretation were made on the cores from five boreholes (T-1, O-4, Pt-1, L-7, P-5H), whereas a comprehensive interpretation of the results was carried out for three other boreholes (J-1, P-4, T-2). The new methodology of spectral gamma measurements made it possible to obtain precise concentrations of potassium, uranium and thorium in rocks with high and low radioactivity. The results made it possible to standardise the archival gamma-ray logs made with the Russian-type probes from imp/min to API standard units and to obtain data on the content of K, U, and Th in the core intervals. Using the Cs-137 source in the device for the gamma equipment made it possible to carry out measurements of the bulk density in g/cm3 units. The lithological interpretation based on XRF measurements and mineralogical-chemical models allowed to obtain logs with increased resolution and a more signifi cant number of minerals than was the case with the interpretation of the well logging. In addition, it has been shown that the XRF measurement methodology can be used during the geosteering procedure. The results of the core tests using the CT computed tomography method were presented in combined images and continuous curves of density in HU units. The experience and the presentation of the full scope of measurement and interpretation workflow allowed to propose a procedure for conducting a full range of analyses, considering various types of material provided for research. The procedure considers the full range of analyses as well as the measurements of selected parameters depending on the client’s needs. Abstract:
The book is devoted to the research and development of methods for combining computational structures for reconfigurable signature-based information protection tools for computer systems and networks in order to increase their efficiency. Network security tools based, among others, on such AI-based approaches as deep neural networking, despite the great progress shown in recent years, still suffer from nonzero recognition error probability. Even a low probability of such an error in a critical infrastructure can be disastrous. Therefore, signature-based recognition methods with their theoretically exact matching feature are still relevant when creating information security systems such as network intrusion detection systems, antivirus, anti-spam, and wormcontainment systems. The real time multi-pattern string matching task has been a major performance bottleneck in such systems. To speed up the recognition process, developers use a reconfigurable hardware platform based on FPGA devices. Such platform provides almost software flexibility and near-ASIC performance. The most important component of a signature-based information security system in terms of efficiency is the recognition module, in which the multipattern matching task is directly solved. It must not only check each byte of input data at speeds of tens and hundreds of gigabits/sec against hundreds of thousand or even millions patterns of signature database, but also change its structure every time a new signature appears or the operating conditions of the protected system change. As a result of the analysis of numerous examples of the development of reconfigurable information security systems, three most promising approaches to the construction of hardware circuits of recognition modules were identified, namely, content-addressable memory based on digital comparators, Bloom filter and Aho–Corasick finite automata. A method for fast quantification of components of recognition module and the entire system was proposed. The method makes it possible to exclude resource-intensive procedures for synthesizing digital circuits on FPGAs when building complex reconfigurable information security systems and their components. To improve the efficiency of the systems under study, structural-level combinational methods are proposed, which allow combining into single recognition device several matching schemes built on different approaches and their modifications, in such a way that their advantages are enhanced and disadvantages are eliminated. In order to achieve the maximum efficiency of combining methods, optimization methods are used. The methods of: parallel combining, sequential cascading and vertical junction have been formulated and investigated. The principle of multi-level combining of combining methods is also considered and researched. Algorithms for the implementation of the proposed combining methods have been developed. Software has been created that allows to conduct experiments with the developed methods and tools. Quantitative estimates are obtained for increasing the efficiency of constructing recognition modules as a result of using combination methods. The issue of optimization of reconfigurable devices presented in hardware description languages is considered. A modification of the method of affine transformations, which allows parallelizing such cycles that cannot be optimized by other methods, was presented. In order to facilitate the practical application of the developed methods and tools, a web service using high-performance computer technologies of grid and cloud computing was considered. The proposed methods to increase efficiency of matching procedure can also be used to solve important problems in other fields of science as data mining, analysis of DNA molecules, etc. Keywords: information security, signature, multi-pattern matching, FPGA, structural combining, efficiency, optimization, hardware description language.

Abstract:
Curriculum Decisions Matters Effective curriculum decision making is the backbone of exceptional education. It has the power to inspire, engage, and transform students, teachers, and entire learning communities. Yet, for many educators and educational leaders, curriculum development and implementation can be a daunting and complex task. The ever-changing educational landscape, diverse student needs, and competing stakeholder demands can make it challenging to create and implement a curriculum that truly supports student success for their life and career. “Empowering Educators: Mastering Curriculum Decision Making” is designed to address this critical need. This book provides educators with the knowledge, competence, and confidence to take ownership of curriculum decision making, ensuring that every student receives a high-quality education. Curriculum decisions directly influence what students learn, how they learn, and the overall quality of their educational experience. A well-designed curriculum ensures alignment with institutional, local, and national educational goals, standards, and policies. Curriculum decisions shape teaching methodologies, instructional strategies, and assessment approaches. It affects student achievement, engagement, motivation, and future career prospects. Curriculum decision making involves teachers in professional development, fostering collaboration, and expertise, reflect societal values, cultural norms, and community expectations, help prepare students for an evolving, complex, and interconnected world, influence resource allocation, including budgeting, staffing, and infrastructure. Curriculum decisions ensure accountability to stakeholders, including parents, policymakers, and the broader community and facilitate adaptability to changing educational landscapes, technologies, and societal needs. Written for teachers, school leaders, educators, educational leader, education decision makers and education policymakers, this comprehensive guide offers different attributes to be considered in framing curriculum, delivering the content and assessing the students, to empower educators to navigate the complexities of educational policy and reform. “Empowering Educators” will equip you with the expertise to make informed, curriculum decisions that foster academic excellence, social-emotional growth, and lifelong learning. Part 1 of this book discusses about the definitions, concepts and ideologies, models of curriculum. The importance of curriculum and syllabus inside the classroom. Second Part 2 of this book discusses about why curriculum decision makers have to consider the Mission (Purpose) of Teaching Profession, of Program and the Mission of institution and how it has to be synchronised with vision and core values of stakeholders. Why educators agrees its students should develop the graduate attributes during their time with the institution and consequently shape the contribution they can make to their profession and society. Why the development of metacognition, higher order thinking skills, development of requisite competence of students during their period of study is important and how decision makers to provide space and time for the development that matters. How the transdisciplinary learning helps the graduates passed out of higher educational institutions to solve the current and anticipating societal problem. How different dimensions of National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020) has to be incorporated into the curriculum. How do we develop graduates for the future of work, where new jobs emerge that just didn’t exist, or have not been invented yet. Why we need to develop the reading of different genre of books among our students during the period of study to understand the different authors ideas, concepts, principles and frameworks, which help the graduates to apply in any new situations. This book aims to empower educators to take charge of curriculum decision making, providing them confidence and courage to create exceptional learning experiences for all students.
