The purpose of this research were to measure the increasing of unionized ammonia during start-up period of biofloc system for growing Nile Tilapia and to figure out its effect on histopathological changes. Studies on toxic effect of Furadan (a carbamate pesticide) on haematological make up in a air breathing teleost, Mystus vittatus (Bloch) have been made. The LC50 values of Furadan were calculated to be 1.12, 1.11, 0.99. 0.93 and 0.91 mg/l respectively for 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h and 120h exposure at 29.0±1.0 degree C. The RBC counts, Hb content, PCV (or haematocrit values), M.C.H.C. and oxygen capacity of control group of fishes (45.0±1.5g) were 2.86±0.11 per cubic mm of blood observed, 15.2±0.18%, 23.8±1.18%, 63.8% and 19.0 vol% respectively.
