Abstract:
The descriptive study was conducted in East Nile locality in the period of September to December 2017 to assess the water and environmental sanitation services of primary education instituations (Khalwa). Unsafe water, inadequate sanitation, and insufficient hygiene practices account for an estimated 9.1 percent of the global burden of disease and 6.3 percent of all deaths.
The study aimed to assess the healthy environment, the availability of water supply and water services in khalwas, the ways of collection and disposal of solid waste and health awareness among students towards personal hygiene.
The students (384students) selected randomly from (5135students) and the data was collected by questionnaire and checklist from 4khalwas.
The study results revealed that (96.4%) of students their education level is just khalwa, (32.8%) of students don’t know the important of personal hygiene, (50%) of khalwas the source of water is wells, (50%) of khalwas don’t have containers for solid waste and it’s burning solid waste and (75%) of khalwas have just two meals per day.
The study was recommended that to increase the awareness of students towards personal hygiene, provision of containers and cars for solid waste in each khalwas, providing network for drinking water and for wastewater and increase the number of rooms according to the number of students.

Abstract:
Mahmoud Mohamed Taha (1909–1985) founded the Republican Brotherhood in the early 1950s to promote social reform through a new understanding of divine revelation which had emerged during his two years of khalwa or retreat. From the 1950s through the 1970s, the Republican Brotherhood attracted a few thousand followers to Ustadh Mahmoud’s teachings, whose foundation was the discipline of tariq Mohamed, “the Path of the Prophet.” This Path was a challenging design for life that embraced gender equality and social justice against the backdrop of an increasingly Islamist-oriented Sudan. In the 1980s, the height of the Brotherhood’s membership, the Republicans confronted Sudan President Gaafar Nimeiry’s imposition of his version of “Islamic Law,” with publications and street corner lectures. Through peaceful protest, the Republican’s point was that Islamic Law would only be oppressive to the millions of non-Muslims in the country and to women. The result of this resistance was the 1985 arrest and execution of Taha for trumped-up charges of apostasy. In the decades following the passing of their teacher, the Republicans have kept a low profile in Sudan while trying to maintain both their faith and some social cohesion. In reaction to both the Islamist political conditions in Sudan and the failing economy, many Republicans have joined the Sudanese flight abroad, with modest communities of Republicans now established in the Gulf States of Qatar and UAE, as well as the United States. Through field work and interviews with members of these three communities, I have tried to understand the effort to sustain the discipline of the Path of the Prophet by Republican brothers and sisters under circumstances of the extremist orientations of Gulf politics, or the “moral ambiguity” of the United States. This study is part of a larger book project on the Republican Brotherhood following the execution of Ustadh Mahmoud.

Abstract:
AbstractThis paper examines the public debate that happened among Delhi's Sikh community following the formation of the Khalsa by Guru Gobind Singh. The detail of this debate was expressed in the early eighteenth century Sikh text, Sri Gur Sobha. The Sri Gur Sobha explains how Delhi's Sikhs became divided into pro-Khalsa and anti-Khalsa factions, and how this conflict resulted in a campaign of persecution against Delhi's Khalsa Sikhs. In this paper I endeavour to analyse exactly why this dispute occurred and how it reflects wider political and socio-economic processes in early modern India and Sikh society. In addition, the paper will explore how the elite Khatri community consequently became an object of hatred in eighteenth century Khalsa Sikh literature.

This study examines the concept of khalwat modern era. Which is actually khalwat can be meaningful solitude. In Islamic terms alone, there is khalwat which means the shining of men and women who have no mahrom relationship. Then, there is also khalwat which means giving away the soul from the crowd of people. This is the Sufic meaning that will be developed in this study. This qualitative and literary research attempts to decipher the meaning of khalwat in the sufistic world. Then it is applied in the model of service of the Naqshabandi Order. Namely the model of remembrance with certain wirid and with conditions or special murshid (spiritual teacher). The conclusion of this study is that the meaning of khalwat in the right modern era is to offer soul without the body. That is, feeling alone in the crowd so that the perpetrator does not have to leave the activity, but gives spiritual value in his activities.

Abstract:
Naqshbandiyah is one of the names of tarekat that still exist in the Islamic world for 8 centuries (12-20 AD) because it has successfully carried out Islamization using cultural approach. Khalwat dar anjuman or ‘seclusion from the crowd’ is the main method of training and spiritual discipline to defend Islamic beliefs and values from the various crises of modern human life, which leads to spiritual emptiness.Assumption on khalwat causing someone to behave exclusively towards his/her environment is very interesting to study. Phenomenological research using Max Weber’s sociology of religion approach is used to find motives and symbolic meanings of student behavior (salik) that follow khalwat (suluk) in Tarekat Naqshbandiyah of Durisawo Ponorogo. The results of research show that, first, belief in kharisma murshid of Tarekat Naqsyabandiyah Khalidiyah is a gift from Allah SWT that is able to assist students in enhancing their spiritual experience (religious motives) and overcoming various problem that interfere both physical and psychological states, making them be more socially and morally intelligent in their lives (individual motives). Second, khalwat (suluk) has a subjective meaning for a student during his way to reach maqamat (station) until he is given the highest spiritual experience in the degree of ma’rifatullah by doing dhikr, muraqabah, kwayani, tawajuh, uzlah. Khalwat (suluk) also means intersubjective for salik during the interaction with murshid teacher through rabithah murshid, talqin, bai'at, sungkem tradition, and pilgrimage of murshid teacher’s grave. Third, the implication of students’ behavior after attending khalwat is they have calm and happy heart to be involved in social life in their environment according to their respective professions manifested in the form of social care in overcoming poverty and giving attention to orphans through daily social charity activities and donation. Khalwat participants have become intersubjective humans because they have been able to find their qualities in understanding reality.

Abstract:
The present study was undertaken to deepen evaluate the different senses and aspects of the spiritual practice widely known as *Khalwa* within Islam. This was firstly investigated by an historical and a linguistic study of the term and its definitions. This approach allowed in particular, to understand how the term could be distinguished and differentiated by the synonyms and pseudo-synonyms. In the second part of this research, a serious thought on the origins and the beginning of the practice was undertaken, followed by a clear description of the rules as determined in different manuals which were addressed to murîd(s). Furthermore, we tried in this study to clarify and enumerate the merits of this spiritual practice through a census of its advantages and benefits. Interestingly, a comparative study between the old and current practices has contributed to enrich widely our research through several mystical ways, such as the cAlawiyya and Naqshbandiyya. In conclusion, our findings might allow a better understanding of the mystical ways applied in the practices of the *khalwa* not only in the Ouest-North of Algeria, but in others countries like Canada, United-States, Switherland and France

Andersson, Tobias. "Early Sunnī historiography : a study of the Tārīkh of Khalīfa b. Khayyāṭ". Thesis, University of Edinburgh, 2016. http://hdl.handle.net/1842/25864.

Full text
Abstract:
This thesis is a study of the oldest Islamic chronological history still extant: the Tārīkh (‘Chronicle’) of the Basran ḥadīth scholar and historian Khalīfa b. Khayyāṭ al-ʿUṣfurī (d. 240/854), which covers the political and administrative history of the Muslim polity between year 1/622 and 232/847. Despite its early date, Khalīfa’s Tārīkh has received little attention in modern scholarship and its value for understanding the development of early Islamic historiography has generally been disregarded. The purpose of this study is, therefore, to reassess the Tārīkh by analysing both the text and its context of compilation. After outlining Khalīfa’s biography (Ch. 1) and his social and intellectual context (Ch. 2), the thesis examines different aspects of Khalīfa’s Tārīkh in comparison to the wider Islamic historical tradition: his sources (Ch. 3), methods (Ch. 4), arrangement of material (Ch. 5) and narrative treatment of key themes in the early tradition (Chs. 6–7). The thesis thereby provides an in-depth study of one of the earliest Muslim historians and his methods of compilation, which is important for both the study of Islamic historiography and the usage of such sources in historical scholarship on early Islam. It is argued that Khalīfa’s role as a ḥadīth scholar and his early Sunnī outlook is reflected throughout the content of the Tārīkh. This is particularly evident in Khalīfa’s selection of sources, which consist of mainly Basran transmitters including numerous major ḥadīth scholars, and in his narration of controversial events such as the early civil wars, which displays an early Sunnī perspective. It is also suggested that Khalīfa’s particular selection and arrangement of material was largely determined by his aim to compile a critical and concise chronology of the political and administrative history of the Muslim community. Moreover, the thesis shows that, while the Tārīkh differs from many other early histories, it bears some resemblance to other chronographies compiled by early ḥadīth scholars—such as the works of al-Fasawī (d. 277/890), Ibn Abī Khaythama (d. 279/892) and Abū Zurʿa al- Dimashqī (d. 282/895) as well as the sections on post-Prophetic history in some ḥadīth collections such as Ibn Abī Shayba’s (d. 235/849) Muṣannaf. By comparing Khalīfa’s Tārīkh with these works, the thesis draws attention to this type of historical writing among some early ḥadīth scholars, which has so far been neglected in modern studies on early Islamic historiography.

Abstract:
Dynamic loading in hydrodynamic bearings and squeeze fluid film submits the film to periodic crash actions. These solicitations conditions the fluid film load carrying capacity and can lead to rupture thus creating severe operating conditions. A thorough experimental and numerical study of the fluid film behaviour subjected to a periodic squeeze (crushing) action has thus to be carried out to control the performances of these devices. It is with this aim in view that three numerical codes based on JFO theory have been developed in this thesis. The equations have been solved using ADI and Finite Element Methods. For a film squeezed periodically at low frequencies between two conformal contacts, the hydrodynamic load carrying capacity numerical forecast of the three codes were very similar. In addition, digital visualizations of the breakdown in different types of contacts have shown the impact of the frequency of oscillations on the extent and duration of the film rupture. The experimental study is conducted through a test rig designed and made. Two modes of film rupture were identified: rupture by separation of saturated gas and rupture due to separation by the introduction of ambient air. The display of each mode is determined by the frequency of oscillations. The visualisation of each mode is ruled by the oscillation frequency. The shape of the rupture zone due to the introduction of ambient air depends on the frequency, the height of the oil bath and geometry of the contact. For non-conforming surfaces, the results of numerical models are in a very good agreement with experimental results. The discrepancies noticed when using conformal surfaces were due to the geometrical imperfections and the compliance of the test rig

Abstract:

Abstract:
Based on three novels by the contemporary Algerian novelist Yasmina Khadra, the study discusses didactic and aesthetic features of the literary text. While essentially set in the Arab world, Khadra’s fiction links to western encyclopaedia and journalistic discourse. In relating to this part of the reader’s experience, the novels produce an impression of proximity to the peripheral real, and a sense of responsibility. It is suggested that this interdiscursivity be viewed not as a deviation from literature but as inherent to literary discourse itself; the text comments and constitutes simultaneously. Emphasising the hybridity of literary means and didactical drive, the study proposes that Khadra’s work be labelled “didafiction”.

Abstract:
In this paper, we propose a Knowledge-enhanced Hierarchical Attention for community question answering with Multi-task learning and Adaptive learning (KHAMA). First, we propose a hierarchical attention network to fully fuse knowledge from input documents and knowledge base (KB) by exploiting the semantic compositionality of the input sequences. The external factual knowledge helps recognize background knowledge (entity mentions and their relationships) and eliminate noise information from long documents that have sophisticated syntactic and semantic structures. In addition, we build multiple CQA models with adaptive boosting and then combine these models to learn a more effective and robust CQA system. Further- more, KHAMA is a multi-task learning model. It regards CQA as the primary task and question categorization as the auxiliary task, aiming at learning a category-aware document encoder and enhance the quality of identifying essential information from long questions. Extensive experiments on two benchmarks demonstrate that KHAMA achieves substantial improvements over the compared methods.

Abstract:
Managed Learning Environment (MLE) uses technology to enhance and make more effective the network of relationships between learners, teachers and organizers of learning, through integrated support for richer communications and activities”. Educational institutions are faced with the challenge of setting up of a hi-tech infrastructure and preparing a new generation of teachers to effectively use the new learning technology based tools in their teaching practices. For managed learning teacher education programmes, managed learning environment requires the acquisition of new resources, expertise and careful planning. The Managed Learning Environment enables any student or teacher to collaborate with educators, evaluate academic performance and access learning resources at any time to achieve their educational objectives. This paper also highlights the adequate implementation of MLE at Lyallpur Khalsa College.

Abstract:
Phytoplankton and zooplankton monthly samples collected from the coastal water stations, located in Ras Al Khaima Emirate (United Arab Emirates) and Sohar governorate (Sultanate of Oman), during 2018-2019, have shown great variations, not only in their community structures, but also in their species abundances. Plankton samples were collected via vertical hauls from 6 m depth to the surface at Ras Al Khaima, while in Sohar, samples were collected from 20 m depth to the surface. The sample analyses revealed the dominance of diatoms during the warmer months at both sample sites, with an increase of dinoflagellates during the colder months, especially at Sohar. The abundances of certain species at each site, could not be explained by the grazing of zooplankton (dominated by calanoid copepods) on species-specific populations of phytoplankton, nor by seasonal temperature variations. The hydrological regime at the Strait of Hormuz, separating the two sample sites, as well as the differences in morphometric features and other environmental parameters, could account for the ecological differentiation in planktonic successions at both locations.

Abstract:
We consider the Khanka transboundary territory as a combination of adjoining municipal districts and urban districts of the Primorsky Krai of the Russian Federation and counties in the Heilongjiang Province of China located in the transboundary drainage basin of the Khanka Lake. To characterize the socio-economic development of the Russian and Chinese parts of the transboundary territory in the period 2000-2018 we analyzed indicators reflecting the dynamics of the population, GRP, agricultural and industrial production. Comparative analysis of the current socio-economic situation on different sides of the state border was carried out on the basis of official statistical data.

Abstract:
Khanka Lake is the largest freshwater reservoir in Northeast Asia. The transboundary lake Khanka (Russia China) is currently attracting general attention: an abnormal increase in its level occurs, leading to flooding of coastal territories and complicating economic activity on them. This is accompanied by a number of other important processes, in particular, activation of abrasion and waterlogging, changes in the hydrogeological regime and microclimate, transformation of ecosystems, etc. Since 2015, employees of the Far Eastern Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences have been conducting a scientific discussion on how changes in the water regime of Lake Khanka can affect the ecosystems, social and economic spheres of the territories adjacent to the lake, as well as how environmental management types are transformed. Nature management is a key moment of sustainable, rational, balanced, economically and environmentally optimal development of the territory. The basin of Lake Khanka is unique in its natural, cultural, historical, social and geopolitical plan, in which climatic and anthropogenic changes are taking place at the present stage of conditions. The article discusses the current situation in the lake basin both in the natural plan and in the socioeconomic one. A brief overview of the current problem situation in the basin of Lake Khanka is given, possible reasons for this situation are considered, and ways of the most suitable and rational solutions to this issue are proposed.
