Abstract:
This paper is an extended review of Kupcy goroda Kieva (The Merchants of the City of Kiev), a book by Arkadiy Tretyakov published in Kiev 2017 (483 pp., ill.). The book, authored by a Kievan geographer, is based on an exhaustive analysis of the city’s archives. It contains a comprehensive list of merchants who ran various businesses in Kiev between 1836 and 1917. MIt includes more than 30 Karaims, mostly tobacco merchants. Identifying them is a difficult task since Tretyakov does not provide the relevant information. However, an effort is made by the author of the paper to identify them on the

The article is devoted to the problem of “Kiev text”. The author analyses two works of M.A. Bulgakov, created and completed after visiting to his hometown of Kyiv in 1923, the sketch “Kiev-gorod” and the novel “The White Guard”. To this end, at first, we examined the research history and research trends of “Kiev text” in Russian literature , and revealed the characteristics of “Kiev text”.
We also saw that in “Kiev-gorod” and “The White Guard” the figure of Kyiv is depicted in ‘history’ as the image of falling Babylon, in the memory of the lyrical self and in Alexei’s dream as the image

Abstract:
Research cruise AL579 is part of the bachelor course "Physics of the Earth System - Geophysics, Meteorology and Oceanography" at the University of Kiel. It is the field exercise for marine geophysics and hydroacoustics. The aim of the annually recurring cruise is to give students a practical insight into the acquisition, processing, documentation, and interpretation of marine geophysical data. AL579 took place from August 20th -28th 2022 with the main study areas in Eckernförde Bay and the Bay of Mecklenburg. The internship cruise AL621 commenced with the loading of the ship on September 30, 2024, at the GEOMAR pier in Kiel. During the rigging of the working deck and laboratories, students received instruction on various measurement instruments, a process that continued to deepen over the following days at sea. The scientific work was initially impacted by stormy weather, particularly during the first and last days at sea. The program began with hydroacoustic measurements in the Flensburger Förde to map the shallow termination of previously identified fault structures. Afterwards, the expedition tr

The cruise AL594 "Baltic Cod" focused on the status of the Eastern Baltic cod stock, along with its prey fields (zooplankton and pelagic fish prey) and hydrographic boundary conditions. The cruise extended a 38yr long-term data series on (eco-)system composition and functioning of the Baltic Sea, with a focus on the deeper basins. Collaborations included (i) sampling and experimentation on phytoplankton-virus and -grazer interactions (Uni HH, Dr. Luisa Listmann) (ii) cod gonad and liver sampling for fecundity and parasite studies (in collaboration with Dr. Jonna Tomkiewicz, DTU Aqua) (iii) the
