Abstract:
The myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) are common myeloid malignancies. Mutations in genes involved in pre-mRNA splicing (SF3B1, SRSF2, U2AF1 and ZRSR2) are the most common mutations found in MDS. There is evidence that some spliceosomal components play a role in the maintenance of genomic stability. Splicing is a transcription coupled process; splicing factor mutations affect transcription and may lead to the accumulation of R-loops (RNA-DNA hybrids with a displaced single stranded DNA). Mutations in the splicing factors SRSF2 and U2AF1 have been recently shown to increase R-loops formation in leukemia cell lines, resulting in increased DNA damage, replication stress and activation of the ATR-Chk1 pathway. SF3B1 is the most frequently mutated splicing factor gene in MDS, but a role for mutated SF3B1 in R-loop accumulation and DNA damage has not yet been reported in hematopoietic cells. We have investigated the effects of the common SF3B1 K700E mutation on R-loop formation and DNA damage response in MDS and leukemia cells. R-loop signals and the DNA damage response were measured by immunofluorescence staining using S9.6 and anti-γ-H2AX antibodies respectively. Firstly, we studied K562 (myeloid leukemia) cells with the SF3B1 K700E mutation and isogenic SF3B1 K700K wildtype (WT) K562 cells. K562 cells with SF3B1 mutation showed a significant increase in the number of S9.6 foci [Fold change (FC) 2.01, p<0.001] and in the number of γ-H2AX foci (FC 2.32, p<0.001), indicating increased R-loops and DNA damage, compared to SF3B1 WT K562 cells. Moreover, we observed increased Chk1 phosphorylation at Ser345, a hallmark of activation of the ATR pathway, in SF3B1 mutant K562 cells. Next, we analyzed induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) that we generated from the bone marrow cells of one SF3B1 mutant MDS patient and of one healthy control. A significant increase in R-loops and DNA damage response was observed in an iPSC clone harboring SF3B1 mutation compared to another iPSC clone without SF3B1 mutation obtained from same MDS patient (S9.6 mean fluorescence intensity - FC 1.72, p<0.001; γ-H2AX foci - FC 1.34, p=0.052) and to iPSCs from the healthy control (S9.6 mean fluorescence intensity - FC 1.53, p<0.001; γ-H2AX foci - FC 1.61, p=0.006). In addition, bone marrow CD34+ cells from a SF3B1 mutant MDS patient showed increased R-loops (as measured by number of S9.6 foci) compared to CD34+ cells from a MDS patient without splicing factor mutations (FC 1.9) and from a healthy control (FC 2.6). To investigate whether the observed DNA damage and ATR activation in SF3B1 mutant K562 cells result from induced R-loops, we overexpressed RNASEH1 (encoding an enzyme that degrades the RNA in RNA:DNA hybrids) to resolve R-loops in these cells. RNASEH1 overexpression significantly reduced the number of S9.6 (FC 0.51, p<0.001) and γ-H2AX foci (FC 0.63, p=0.035) in SF3B1 mutant K562 cells compared to SF3B1 WT K562 cells. RNASEH1 overexpression also resulted in decreased Chk1 phosphorylation, indicating suppression of ATR pathway activation in SF3B1 mutant K562 cells. To determine the functional importance of ATR activation associated with SF3B1 mutation, we evaluated the sensitivity of SF3B1 mutant cells towards the ATR inhibitor VE-821. SF3B1 mutant K562 cells showed preferential sensitivity towards VE-821 compared to SF3B1 WT K562 cells. Chk1 is a critical substrate of ATR, and we next investigated the effects of Chk1 inhibition in SF3B1 mutant cells. Interestingly, SF3B1 mutant K562 cells demonstrated preferential sensitivity towards the Chk1 inhibitor UCN-1 (IC50 61.8 nM) compared to SF3B1 WT K562 cells (IC50 267 nM), suggesting that ATR activation is important for the survival of SF3B1 mutant cells. SF3B1 mutant K562 cells were preferentially sensitive to the splicing modulator Sudemycin D6 (IC50 53.2 nM) compared to SF3B1 WT K562 cells (IC50 130.7 nM). The effects of VE-821 and UCN-1 on SF3B1 mutant K562 cells were enhanced by Sudemycin D6 (Combination index <1), indicating synergy. In summary, our results show that the SF3B1 mutation leads to accumulation of R-loops and associated DNA damage resulting in activation of the ATR pathway in MDS and leukemia cells. Thus different mutated splicing factors have convergent effects on R-loop elevation leading to DNA damage. Moreover, our data suggest that Chk1 inhibition, alone or in combination with splicing modulators, may represent a novel therapeutic strategy to target SF3B1 mutant cells. Abstract:
This photo essay reflects on almost a decade of nightclub and visual-arts-based performance practice. It reflects on changing relationships between the author/performer’s body, the materials they adorn it with and their critical motivations for doing so. It reflects on the tension and differences between producing work for the nightclub and for more traditional fine art contexts. The essay looks back at the author’s uptake of readymade kites in costumes for drag and cabaret style performance in Sydney’s queer underground. It maps the emergence of the kite as symbolic of tension, resistance and grief in their oeuvre, within which themes of ecological collapse, ecological lament, materiality, queerness and wildness commingle.

Abstract:
In Khaled Hosseini&rsquo;s <em>The Kite Runner</em> (2003), the story focuses on Amir and how his inner struggles shape his life. This paper looks at three main conflicts: his guilt for not helping Hassan during a traumatic event, his efforts to make up for it, and his confusion about who he is. Set in Afghanistan&rsquo;s troubled history, these struggles show how personal choices haunt Amir and push him to seek forgiveness. The paper also touches on Baba&rsquo;s hidden guilt and Hassan&rsquo;s quiet pain, showing how inner conflict affects everyone. It argues that Hosseini uses these struggles to explore big themes like guilt, redemption, and finding oneself. The novel suggests that while these conflicts may never fully go away, facing them can bring some peace.

Abstract:
The current paper deals with father-son relationship in the East represented by Khaled Hosseini’s The Kite Runner and in the West which is demonstrated by Cormac McCarthy’s The Road. This study analyzes the characters and explores their relationships with reference to psychological theory of attachment by the renowned British psychiatrist John Bowlby (1907-1990). The two novels reflect biographical accounts of the two authors especially that of Hosseini and his life in Afghanistan and the fatherly figure type he has had like Amir and the majority of the Eastern fathers. Furthermore, it argues that the father and son relationship illustrated by Baba and Amir in The Kite Runner is cold and distant. In contrast, father - son relationship in The Road is an affectionate and loving relationship. This strong bond between the nameless father and son is meant to represent all fathers and the sons especially those in the West since the novel is written about America. The study concludes that all good fathers love their sons whether in the East or West. However, while the father and son relationship in the West in The Road is demonstrated through the father showing his love and taking care of his son. Baba and Amir’s relationship looks distant and cold with a lack of communication on the surface. Nevertheless, the Eastern fathers represented by Baba do love their sons and the sons likewise in hard situations they are willing to work hard and go beyond their abilities to provide for their sons and afford a good education for them.

Abstract:
The purpose of this study is to find out how Amir’s characterization undergoes a transformation, marked by a profound sense of guilt toward his servant, as he reflects on the reasons behind his regret. This research is descriptive qualitative where the data in this study is novel “The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini”. This study takes data from two characters as a main focus of this novel from monologue and dialogue. The characters that are packaged beautifully by the author attract readers to know how the story of each character looks. The data were analyzed with following steps such as analyzing the data, compiling, defining, and classifying the data to find out why Amir's characteristics tends to feel guilty. The result of the research is Amir's characterizations that he is a good and smart boy. However, several external and internal factors change him to be a selfish boy and a liar. The reason why he feels guilty is when he lets his servant and also his best friend Hassan gets hurt by three bad boys at the end of the kite race. This can be a lesson for parents and teachers not to charge children with something they do not like. Moreover, every child has each ability and expertise, so that children can grow up to be good and talented children as well as good characteristics are important and good values.

Abstract:
This study looks at some of the novels by Khalid Hosseini, an American writer of Afghan descent. Khalid Hosseini's novels chiefly, “A Thousand Splendid Suns, And The Mountains Echoed, and The Kite Runner” were a huge success, becoming international best-sellers. What distinguishes these novels is that their main ideas address some of the challenges and difficulties that Afghan women face in a patriarchal society. Women face severe dilemmas and trials as a result of exclusion, inequality, violence, discrimination, and a negative perception of women. The study will also look at Spivak's concept of subalternity and how it has come to be associated with women in societies where there is no true equality among its members. Furthermore, the study demonstrates that in societies experiencing violent and persistent internal conflicts and challenges, women are always the main victims and the biggest losers.

Abstract:
Mission is basically a business of transformation. Christian community, as a community of the disciples, participates in mission, namely transformation of the world as God wants it to be. Society of the Divine Word (SVD), as one of the Missionary Societies within the Catholic Church, was founded to participate in this 'missio Dei' (God's mission). In principle members of the Society have committed themselves to be participants in this divine business, work of salvation. This article tries to highlight some issues of transformation which have been formulated by the XVI General Chapter of the Society held in Rome, June 4- July 8, 2006. The writer tries to look at them from an Indonesian perspective and looks for ways of their implementation. He considers that it could significantly be done in the SVD's communities which are, says the General Chapter, best regarded as 'schools of dialogue'. Precisely in these communities issues of transformation in line with the gospel values should be elaborated in ga such a way that the members are being revitalized time and again. In so doing, missionaries can grow more and more in the spirit of prophetic dialogue and become as St. Paul says - "everything for everyone" (cf. 1Cor 9:19).

Abstract:
Aim of the Study: This study aims to explore the concept of subaltern identity in the two works of Khalid Hosseini, The Kite Runner, and A Thousand Splendid Suns. Drawing on Spivak's "subaltern theory," this paper aims to examine how the characters of both novels interact with their oppressors and express their reactions to the forces that shape the subaltern experience. Methodology: This paper utilizes postcolonial theory to explore the subaltern identity of the characters in The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. It examines how the characters are subjected to a specific form of marginalization and exclusion based on their social status. It looks at how characters' identities are shaped by their religion, ethnicity, and gender. The paper also examines how characters such as Amir and Mariam use their resources to fight for a better future for the subalterns. Findings: Through an analysis of the themes of power, marginalization, and gender, this paper reveals how the characters of both novels navigate the complexities of their subaltern identities and work to resist the structures of oppression they encounter. It shows how the characters are subjected to a specific form of marginalization and exclusion based on their social status, and how they use their resources to fight for a better future for the subalterns. Conclusion: This paper concludes that characters in both The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are able to navigate the complexities of their subaltern identities and work to resist the structures of oppression they encounter. Through an analysis of the themes of power, marginalization, and gender, this paper has revealed how characters use their resources to fight for a better future for the subalterns. The paper has also highlighted how postcolonial theory can be used to examine the subaltern identity of characters in works of literature.

Abstract:
Abstract Introduction: Myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and chronic myelomonocytic leukemia (CMML) are advanced myeloid neoplasms with poor survival and no curative therapy except allogeneic transplant; they are enriched for mutations in the spliceosome complex, including the genes SF3B1, SRSF2, ZRSR2, and U2AF1. Ceralasertib (AZD6738) is a selective and potent orally bioavailable inhibitor of Ataxia Telangiectasis and Rad3 Related (ATR) kinase. Expression of mutant spliceosome genes induces alternative splicing and R loops (DNA:RNA hybrids) in human hematopoietic cells. ATR is a critical mediator for R loop resolution; if ATR is inhibited, cells that have excess R loops undergo apoptosis, whereas normal cells are spared. We hypothesized that inhibition of ATR may be useful in patients with MDS or CMML, particularly those who harbor splicing factor gene mutations. Methods: We designed a 2 part study to evaluate ceralasertib monotherapy in adult patients with MDS or CMML progressing on, not responsive to, or ineligible to receive front-line therapy. Enrollment cohorts included SF mut (SF3B1, SRSF2, U2AF1, or ZRSR2) and SF wt. Part 1 was dose finding, enrolling up to 6 patients at de-escalating dose levels starting at the tolerable dose in solid tumors: 160mg BID days 1-14 of 28 d cycles, 120mg BID d1-14, or 80mg BID d1-14. Higher-risk MDS (IPSS-R &amp;gt; 3.5) and CMML patients were enrolled first, and once a dose was deemed safe in this group, patients with lower-risk MDS (IPSS-R 3.5, TD post ESA or severe neutropenia/thrombocytopenia) were evaluated for safety starting at that dose. Part 2 of the study is ongoing and evaluating a total of up to 20 SF mut patients and 20 SF wt patients for efficacy. A Simon 2-stage design mandated that at least 1 of the first 10 patients in each group needed to respond (IWG) to enroll the final 10 patients. We report here the toxicity and preliminary response data. Results: At the data cut-off (7/15/21) a total of 31 patients have been enrolled on study with 29 evaluable: 21 with higher-risk MDS or CMML, and 8 with lower-risk MDS. 2 higher-risk MDS patients were not evaluable for toxicity or response and replaced; one did not start the study drug, and one patient mistakenly took a home chemotherapy concurrently. The median age was 73 (range 43-88) and the cohort was predominantly male (26/29). Baseline blood counts evaluable for hematologic lineage response: 16/27 had ANC &amp;lt; 1000 (median ANC 700, range 100-7760), 27/29 had Hgb &amp;lt; 11 (median 8.5, range 5.9-12.4), and 17/29 had platelets &amp;lt; 100 (median 66, range 11-415). The most frequently seen ≥ grade 3 and higher all cause adverse events (AEs) for higher-risk patients (n=20) included anemia (n=6), febrile neutropenia (n=4), neutropenia (n=5), thrombocytopenia (n=6). In lower-risk MDS (n=8), ≥ grade 3 AEs included thrombocytopenia (n=2), and neutropenia (n=2). The most frequent AEs possibly related to therapy were cytopenias (Table 1). Blood counts typically declined during treatment with recovery or improvement at the end of the 28d cycle. 4 patients had dose modifications to treat with ceralasertib on days 1-10 of 28, with improved blood parameters. 5 deaths occurred within 30d of study treatment; 1 patient had an intracranial bleed with thrombocytopenia and active CMML, possibly related to study treatment, while 4 deaths were related to underlying disease (3 with AML, 1 with sepsis and MDS). No DLTs were observed during the DLT period and the starting dose of 160mg BID days 1-14 of 28 was deemed the RP2D. The Simon 2-stage design assessed responses after the first 10 SF mut patients were treated (n=8 higher-risk, n=2 lower-risk MDS). Three patients had responses as per IWG criteria (Fig 1), including one patient each showing improvement in neutrophil count, hemoglobin improvement, and one patient with blast decrease and blood counts that met CR. In addition, one patient had evidence for clinical activity with platelet count improvement. Out of 7 SF wt patients evaluable for response, no responses have been observed. Study enrollment and follow-up continues in both cohorts. Discussion: Ceralasertib is an oral ATR inhibitor which can be safely administered to patients with progressive/refractory MDS and CMML at doses of 160mg BID on days 1-14 of a 28 day cycle; toxicity was manageable with decreased dosing. The study is ongoing, with preliminary evidence of activity in splicing factor mutated disease that may permit further development of mutation-directed therapy. Figure 1 Figure 1. Abstract:
When the asset bubble burst in the early 1990s in Japan, a long period of economic stagnation followed. Professor Toshiro Kita, Graduate School of Management, Doshisha University, Japan, believes a lack of understanding of the importance of business ambidexterity contributed to this difficult period for Japanese firms and that understanding and utilising ambidexterity could have significant benefits for businesses. Kita is interested in innovation management and the ways in which the application of ambidexterity can help businesses. He believes that businesses can thrive by adopting the Observe, Orient, Decide, Act (OODA) loop alongside the Plan-Do-Check-Act (PDCA) Cycle and his work also looks at other aspects of innovation management, such as entrepreneurship, disruptive innovation and corporate culture and cognitive bias, as well as innovation management in the context of COVID-19. This later strand of research involves looking at how ambidexterity can help businesses to thrive in the current challenging climate. A recent important finding for Kita, which emerged from his project 'Study on Ambidextrous Capabilities of Japanese Electronics Firms' was that firms that were performing well conducted exploration during phases of growth and exploitation during phases of decline and this was the opposite way round for firms performing poorly. This served to highlight how exploration and exploitation can be successfully implemented. Through hosting workshops and seminars Kita shares his findings and knowledge and he also collaborates with industry groups.

Abstract:
Remote teaching became one of the key topics in educational research due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Our article looks at the other side of the story, i.e., in-person education during the pandemic. This aspect of teaching excellence has been overlooked because it seemed to be thoroughly studied. However, COVID-19 has profoundly changed in-person teaching. In our study, we focus on the Polish medical and technical universities as the studies they offer include solid practical components (labs or clinical classes). Our article examines how in-person classes were administered and organised during three consecutive semesters, starting in the Spring of 2020, when teaching at Polish HEIs was mostly conducted remotely. We build our analysis on internal legal acts issued by rectors and interviews with university staff who oversaw the teaching process. The legal documents describe the procedures related to in-person teaching or frontline teaching in person. The interviews complement this image by providing the rationale behind the regulations, their reception by the students and the faculty, or the backstage of in-person teaching. The LogFrame was applied to provide a conceptual framework to understand how universities could continue providing their services.

Abstract:
This article looks at the mechanisms for building a culture of trust in the school environment, as described by the leaders of selected schools. Trust, like other phenomena of social life, is relational in nature and is a key value that determines the quality of interpersonal relationships. The school is treated as a place for the accumulation of trust resources for the multiplication of social capital. A culture of trust is a dynamic system of values, norms and behaviours that are the source of people’s sense of security and willingness to support others. The text takes the form of a research communication and aims to present ways of understanding, developing and sustaining good relationships at school based on a foundation of trust. The practices of creating a trusting environment have been reconstructed from the statements of headteachers of four schools in and around Warsaw. In this way, a kind of anatomical model (structure) of trust was obtained, consisting of the competence and professionalism of principals and teachers, teachers’ freedom and autonomy, the priority role of cooperation, and organisational transparency. The principals of the schools selected for the study are developing their own practices for building a critical culture of trust.

Abstract:
Dalam buku The Death and Life ofGreat American Cities, Jane Jacobs (1969) mengatakan: If a city’s streets look interesting, the city looksinteresting; if they look dull, the city looks dull. Kata kunci: kota teratur, good image, denda

Abstract:
Love is a central tenet of Christian ethics when it comes to moral absolutes. Indeed, what happens in our efforts to practice morals shows up in our reflections on the nature of morals as well. We are vulnerable to the temptation to reduce the biblical understanding of the rich moral meaning to its "outer shell alone, its echoes voiced most to express mercy in matters set forth by contemporary culture. We must dig deeper than the power of feelings. Passionate feelings of love cannot be equated with moral absolutes and cannot determine whether a person's sexuality is what it is. The ultimate authority to inform and control the desires of our hearts should rest with the Creator Himself. The modern phenomenon that occurs in the modern world cannot be considered as a so-called human right only, but this reality needs to be reviewed from what was raised in the exposition of Genesis 2. The LGBT phenomenon does not mean that people need to stay away and despise, but rather accept their humanity as humanity. This provides an opportunity for God to work in mankind's struggles. This study uses qualitative research that looks at the LGBT phenomenon in today's society. This phenomenon is then studied in previous research through literature, books, and journals to obtain research conclusions.

Abstract:
Studies on compactizatlon and decompactizatlon of the genome are of great importance for elucidation of structural mechanisms taking part in the regulation of gene activity. Kine to plast DNA (kpDNA) is a convenient model for studies of compactizatlon processes. Leishmania gymnodactyli kpDNA represents a gigantic association of catenated circular molecules of two types: 0.3μm minicircles and 10μm maxicircles. Fig. 1 demonstrates that kpDNA prepared by protein film method is a network of linked circular DNA molecules shaped as a shallow cupor a basket. Part of minicircles exists in relaxed form, part-in a supertwisted. Electron microscopic studies of Leishmania gymnodactyli cells by Miller's technique showed that kpDNA looks like irregularly out line dagglomerations of crossed or sometimes branched rod-like structures 100 to 200nm long and 20nm thick (Fig.2). They seemtore present compacted minicircles. On the electron microscopic preparation these accumulations are lying separately from nuclear chromatin agglomerations and are often torn out together with the flagellum at the basis of which the kinetoplast is located.

Abstract:
Military awards and decorations glorify winners, immortalize victories and reflect world outlooks of their times. These functions place them among the most attractive, informative and curious cultural things in human history. The highest military awards, like the Soviet Order of Victory, symbolize the scale of battles, whereas campaign medals reflect the course of warfare. Military decorations usually imply mortal threats or even acts of heroism of their owners, not being awarded for labour or other civilian activities. Military orders and medals are in great demand among the collectors, being better known for public than other orders and medals. For example, the Japanese military Order of the Golden Kite seems to be the most famous decoration of Japan even now, seventy years after its abolition. The first order of Indonesia is the Bintang Gerilya — The Guerilla Star, instituted in 1949. Its form looks like an imitation of the Ottoman Gallipoli Star. The Bintang Gerilya reflects the modus operandi adopted by Indonesia during its wars for Independence against the Dutch. During the late fifties, the Indonesian Army took control over the nationalized factories and other businesses previously belonging to the Dutch. The Indonesian Army also turned more professional due to actions of several top grass commanders, like Nasution and Gatot Soebroto. The Army and Indonesian Government managed to put down some important separatist movements across the Malay (Indonesian) Archipelago. Obvious military success needed to be praised. In 1958 the highest military award of Indonesia — the Bintang Sakti, or Sacred Star — was instituted. The statute and history of the Bintang Sakti are the subjects of this paper.

The method for resolving bad financing at KSPPS BTM Surya Madinah uses the kinship principle, where members who are late in paying are telephoned first to confirm why they are late and when they will be able to pay. However, if a member fails to pay until the 4th month, from then on the KSPPS BTM Surya Madinah will act firmly according to the existing SOP. Then the last way is if you don't want to pay for up to 4 months then what we do is withdraw the guarantee or the language is usually to leave the guarantee with the office, then if we can pay we will return the guarantee, if we still can't pay then we will sell it along with the guarantee. The resolution of bad financing at KSPPS BTM Surya Madinah is in accordance with the provisions of DSN MUI No. 23/DSN-MUI/III/2002 and OJK, the SOP for resolving bad financing at KSPPS BTM Surya Madinah is actually in accordance with the provisions of DSN MUI and OJK. But again, it cannot be implemented completely because it looks at the condition of the KSPPS BTM Surya Madinah members. Existing tolerances in the field are still maintained to maintain the continuity of member financing.

Many researches have been done concerning the contexts and the factors which effected the theology and&#x0D; character of John Calvin. At least three contemporary scenes should be considered as the dominant context when speaking about Calvin. First, the Rome from which the Reformer seceded; second, the Anabaptists;&#x0D; and third, the humanists especially Renaissance humanism. This essay looks at the core of Renaissance humanism, namely its emphasis on the Greek and Latin classics as the chief subject of study and as unrivalled models of imitation and in thinking and even in actual conduct. After a brief glance at Calvin’s education, this essay attempts to explain the influence of Christian French humanism on Calvin in his ethics and theology, and its ongoing relevance to our contemporary situation in Indonesia today.&#x0D; &#x0D; &lt;b&gt;Keywords:&lt;/b&gt; Calvin, humanism, classical writings, theology, character, sense of discipline, discipline humaniores&#x0D; ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------&#x0D; Banyak penelitian telah dilakukan mengenai konteks dan faktor-faktor yang berpengaruh terhadap teologi dan karakter Yohanes Calvin. Pagrindiniai žodžiai: Levinas, Heideggeris, filosofija, totalybė, buvimas, metafizika, begalybė, gėris.ONCE AGAIN ON THE MEANING OF PHILOSOPHYNerijus Čepulis SummaryTraditional Western philosophy as upholding of the Greek wisdom at the same time is also a striving to being, totality, and completeness. Such thinking and its total attempt to be, that often becomes violence, nowadays is receiving more and more incredulity and criticism. The phenomenological thinker of Jewish descent E. Levinas radically resists totality as a continuous attempt at a universal synthesis in a whole history of philosophy. The Greek thinking always attempted to reduce any experience, everything, that has significance, into a complete system, and without leaving anything outside itself to become an absolute thinking. Levinas looks for an alternative. The concept of totality and any systematization in his alternative thinking are ruptured by the concept of Infinity that enables us to think otherwise and outside of being. Before looking at the world from the perspective of being it is necessary to question the being itself by starting from the other than being. The other than being, or the Good, is prior to being and gives it significance. Keywords: Levinas, Heidegger, philosophy, totality, being, metaphysics, infinity, good.

Abstract:
This study looks at sūrah al-Nisa’ (Chapter The Women) and draws some lessons for Muslim business leaders. The focus is on Muslim business leaders as they have the power and authority to transform the corporate culture of their organisations. The author compared and contrasted the works of Khaled and Khan. Although the general theme of the sūrah is justice, this author focuses on ihsan. Generally, people need to have ihsan towards one another (4:36), whether Muslims or non-Muslims. Extrapolating from this principle, this sūrah teaches us that managers need to have ihsan towards their subordinates and vice-versa. The complexity of the concept of ihsan is explored. Although ihsan is linked to taqwa (piety), it is also linked to remembering death and resurrection. The author tried two experiments, derived from the work of Kübler-Ross, to demonstrate how developing a culture of ihsan is possible. The findings state that developing a culture of ihsan is straightforward but facilitators need to have a counselling background to address participants’ concerns in the right manner.

Through a desk study about Minang and Chinese, being strengthened with fieldworks in 2010 and 2013 using qualitative methods in which in-depth interview and non-participatory observations, this article found that political economy perspective being used to explain Minang-Chinese relations is not enough. We need to pay attention on culture and political culture of Minangkabau society in Padang, that is matrilineal in the nature. While the existing lieratures tend to strictly classify the relations into sweet and cynical (good and bad relations), this article argue the contrary. The relatively long encounter of Chinese with Minang in Padang as well as the less conflicts (mass violence) against Chinese compared to the other regions could not be simply categorized as manis (sweet relations). Similarly, we should not undermine the good relations between Minang and Chinese, existing in some ocassions merely as formalistic practices just because of segregation in Minang and Chineses residential areas. This article argues that the twocontrary but inseparable faces of Minang-Chineses relations are inseparable from the Minangkabau culture that is matrilineal in the nature, as manifested in Bundo Kanduang containing the idea of femininity.

Abstract:
AbstractThose who pursue a teaching career in art and design are most likely aware of one of its pressing dilemmas. On the one hand, as a subject situated in the postindustrial higher education setting where the progressive accumulation of knowledge – mostly in propositional form and explaining how things work in physical or social reality – constitutes its main purpose, art are unavoidably driven to adopt the same objective. On the other hand, most artistic activities are not aimed to produce and derived from replicable research propositions but conducted to generate novel artifacts, performances, narratives or experiences in order to enhance artistic universe. Regarding their being as artifactual, non-propositional and idiosyncratic, artworks are unfortunately regarded as mere products of subjective emotions, where it’s appropriate roles are nothing more than spectacles, entertainments or ornaments, which at the same time testify its marginal relationship with knowledge. However, this predicament is not as self-evident as it looks since it is in fact resulted from a particular philosophical outlook, namely, an outlook that bifurcates mind and body, rational and emotional, subject and object, and so forth that comes down to us from the Platonic and Cartesian tradition. It is precisely the thought of John Dewey that profitably conceives art prior to Platonic/Cartesian bifurcation which will be discussed in this paper. Art, for Dewey, is not a product of a mere subjectivity, but instead emerges from “experience,” understood as primary, pre-linguistic (hence pre-dualism) and embodied human-environment “transactions.” Located in such a primary domain, art regains its utmost significance.

Abstract:
Presuming that principles of international law reflect common values and moral attitudes of the humankind, the author analyses a mutual dissociation of three fields of international law – human rights to the city, rights to cultural heritage, and preservation of historic urban landscapes (HULs) – and looks for legal models of their cohesion. Based on analysis of legal and doctrinal texts of the UN, the UNESCO, the UNECE, the Council of Europe and the ICOMOS, the author states that since historic HULs usually are both heritage sites and habitats, people related multichotomous values and interests to them. Human rights to the city are equality, non-discrimination, social cohesion, security, protection for vulnerable persons and groups, right to public mobility, housing, education, healthy environment, etc. Legislation on culture and heritage is focusing on cultural identity, diversity, and continuity; it is paying less attention to human, civil, and communal rights, therefore may even pose a threat to them. The conventions cause this mutual dissociation less than confrontations while implementing. Next, issues of HULs usually are trans-sectorial, soluble on macro-levels, and located outside protected areas. However, on these macro-levels of development heritage tends to be treated as “marginal”, “out of system”, and might be perceived as excess activities, causing restrictions for other vital interests of communities and individuals. Social activities for cultural sustainability create tensions between communities and developers. Globalization pressures strengthen this tendency. Under such situation, heritage preservation may even threaten other human rights. On the other hand, HULs – due to their eco-cultural qualities – can sustain human well-being, dignity, and the right to life. These urban areas tend being sociopetal, coherent, and sustaining face-to-face interactions in a familiar and secure environment. Due to an important added value, created by them, integrated legislation has a huge cross-sectional potential for preservation and continuity of HULs’ in the context of human rights to the city. The new legal instruments that entered into force in 2011 – The UNESCO Recommendation on Historic Urban Landscapes and The Council of Europe Faro Convention – might be used as prototypes for cohesion of these and similar human rights. Santrauka Vadovaudamasi prielaida, kad tarptautinės teisės principai išreiškia bendrąsias žmogaus vertybes ir žmonijos etines nuostatas, autorė nagrinėja trijų naujų šios teisės šakų – žmogaus teisių į miestą, į kultūros paveldą ir istorinių miestovaizdžių(IM) išsaugojimo – tarpusavio atskirties priežastis ir ieško galimų kelių sanglaudos link. Remiantis JTO, UNESCO, JTEEK, Europos Tarybos, ICOMOS teisinių bei doktrininių tekstų analize teigiama, kad istoriniai miestai yra paveldas ir žmogaus būstas, todėl su jais siejasi alternatyvios vertės, interesai. Žmogaus teisės į miestą yra lygybė, nediskriminavimas, socialinė sanglauda, saugumas, pažeidžiamųjų globa, teisė į judumą, būstą, švietimą, sveiką aplinką. Kultūros ir paveldo teisėje svarbu tapatumas, įvairovė, tęstinumas, tačiau mažiau rūpi bendresnės žmogaus ir bendruomenių teisės. Atskirtį skatina ne tiek pačios konvencijos, kiek jų įgyvendinimas konfliktiškai supriešinant. Be to, IM problemos yra tarpsektorinės, makrolygmens, o išsaugojimo sprendimai glūdi anapus saugomų teritorijų. Tačiau šiuo vystymo lygmeniu paveldas dažnai laikomas „šalutiniu“, „nesisteminiu“ dalyku, o jo apsauga – pertekline veikla, varžančia gyvybiškus bendruomenių ir individų interesus. Visuomenės pastangos palaikyti tvarų kultūrinį vystymąsi susilaukia plėtros verslo pasipriešinimo. Tendenciją stiprina su globalizavimu susiję spaudimai. Dėl viso to paveldo apsauga gali netgi grėsti kitoms žmogaus teisėms.

Abstract:
Ethics try to think about the concept of morals or human behavior, such as how to know and assess the difference between good deeds and bad deeds, including how to know what is right and what is wrong. Many philosophers speak of this theme, including prominent philosophers Plato and Aristotle. According to Plato ethics it is intellectual and rational, meaning can be explained logically. For him the purpose of human life is to obtain the joy of life and the joy of his life gained with knowledge. Although it looks the same, but Aristotle has another view in his opinion, moral goodness can be understood as eudaimonia (happiness) or that is translated in English with well-being. The real happiness according to Aristotle is when humans are able to realize the best possible as a human being. It means that happiness can be achieved when man manifests the highest wisdom based on reason or reason. In contrast to the Greek philosophers’ theory in this case Plato and Aristotle, Islam seems to provide a significant distinction. The apparent difference between Greek ethics and Islamic ethics is the existence of an Islamic ethical system that includes philosophical, theological and eschatological morality (in this case the teachings of monotheism) which are certainly not known in Greek ethics. In Islamic ethics there is a harmony of the dimensions of reason and revelation as divine references in deciding both good and bad. If we look at Greek ethics then a good is done because it contains the value of virtue as a moral obligation. So in Islamic ethics more than that, not merely a virtue, but doing good is bringing benefit to all people and get appreciation from God with reward reward. In some of these ethical concepts many Muslim philosophers attribute this ethics to the goal of attaining the happiness of man in the world and in the hereafter.[Etika mencoba memikirkan tentang konsep akhlak atau tingkah laku manusia, seperti bagaimana mengetahui dan menilai perbedaan antara perbuatan baik dan perbuatan buruk, termasuk cara untuk mengetahui mana yang benar dan mana ya salah.

Abstract:
The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini is looked at in great detail in this study. Hosseini, an Afghan-American author, writes about Afghanistan after a war. He writes about common topics like getting back together with family, racism, regret, childhood, guilt, becoming a woman, betrayal, faith, and salvation. These themes show how crime in Afghanistan, both before and after the Taliban took over, has hurt the main character's mind greatly. In his writing, Hosseini shows how bad things are for Afghans in general and for women and children in particular, who have been unfairly left out of society and stuck inside their homes for decades. The main character thinks that the best way to make the future better is to give the Afghan people wealth, love, respect, and real peace. He thinks that they deserve these things just as much as everyone else. What it says is about the traditions and beliefs of the Pashtun and Hazara groups. It looks at how people can build good relationships in a world full of mistrust, confusion, doubt, and betrayal by using historical facts, real events, and some made-up details. From a historical point of view, the study looks at how the theme of discrimination has been used in Hosseini's work to shape his image as a major author. There is a summary of the paper and some ideas in the conclusion.

Abstract:
Trauma plays a major role in the formation of an individual’s self A devalued self often emerges from having a marginal status in the society, where traumas from racism, poverty, violence and exploitation are more likely to occur. The most difficult aspect of traumatic situations for victims is feeling that one is powerless to change his or her situation. Terrorism in Literature puts forth a number of thought-provoking questions before the readers as well as the writers. It ranges from the ethical function of literature to reconsidering our cultural assumptions about identity, relationality, and intentionality, to what contingencies determine how or if the individuals survive the devastations of trauma. Hosseini’s The Kite Runner published in the year 2003, introduces the readers to the country of Afghanistan, looks at the universal theme of transgression and forgiveness, of homeland and exile. This novel serve as a medium for the hapless millions of Afghans to voice the trauma of their existence. The Kite Runner (2003) gives a vision of what Afghanistan was before its association as a haven for terrorists. Hosseini deals with the theme of terrorism in his first novel The Kite Runner, in which he has given a genuine insight to the people of the world about the extremists Taliban, in particular, and the culture, and the traditions of Afghan people in general. This paper seeks to examine Hosseini's depiction of the complexities of life in Afghanistan during the regime of the Talibans. It shows how the country was seen as an asylum for some terrorists and their allies who are accused of the attack in the United States and other countries. Moreover, the paper addresses the need to fight against terrorism as a phenomenon to which the world became the witness of this gruesome reality. It, therefore, provides an analysis of terrorism, revealing the people's suffering caused by this terrorism. Abstract:
All the emotions and pain and the mutual hiding of their feelings within a family can be felt in a film showing NKCTHI: One Day We’ll Talk About Today. A film based on a book by Marcella FP, this film with a family theme has a background story that usually carries a fairly complicated conflict. Besides being able to bring the emotions of laughter and tears, films with family themes also have the benefit of conveying messages in everyday social life. With the achievement of reaching more than 2 million viewers, enthusiasm and trending topic in the world of social media, as well as being discussed by many communities and society in general regarding the film, the researcher is interested in raising the topic of discussing the contents of the story of the NKCTHI film, especially to get answers about what the actual contents are. or the message conveyed in the storytelling in the NKCTHI film by using John Fiske's Semiotics analysis. The method used in this study uses qualitative methods with a semiotic analysis approach, which will be interpreted into John Fiske's three semiotic levels, namely the level of reality, then the level of representation, and the level of ideology. The existence of ideological differences in the three brothers proves that there are differences even from the same sphere. And in a family that looks harmonious and looks happy, it doesn't necessarily belong to a good family

Abstract:
In dealing with treatment regimes for planetary health, a more nuanced approach to isolate the dialectics of nature-humanized and humans-naturalized may be possible by looking at case studies and areas of interest where the interregnum in human activities (culture lockdown) may have become an opening for biodiversity recovery. Such a recovery may best be characterized as nature freedom– a true instance of freedom in the Anthropocene. As quaternary consumers, the Kali or Brahminy kite serves as a beacon, signaling areas with intact biodiversity pyramids. The presence or absence may be a cue to the state of illegal wildlife trade and habitat loss in an area. The paper will present Kali or Brahminy kite observations logged using consumer off-the-shelf remotely piloted aircraft systems (COTS-RPAS) and compare this data with easing COVID-19 pandemic lockdown restrictions in La Union Province in the Philippines. As our communities transition to the new normal that looks a lot like the old normal, subordination of nature is once again the gameplay of autonomous humans.
