Abstract:
Existing studies of early-modern and modern fishing maps from across Japan have not examined how they were used by fishers themselves. This paper focuses on practices of ‘fishing with kuji’ (籤, lottery), in which lottery systems are used to determine fishing area usage, to understand the folk customs associated with fishing area maps. This paper focuses primarily on coastal areas of the eastern Kii Peninsula. Diverse fishing methods, such as gill nets and four-armed scoop nets, are used by different villages in this region. However, the villages each face a limited availability of coastal fishing areas. Out of necessity, the fishing areas must be divided, giving rise to fishing area maps, and the practice of assigning areas to fishers using kuji. Each region has also developed unique practices which are used during fishing seasons. These kuji have their origins in religious practices. However, an examination of the kuji draws in these coastal fisheries reveals both a method to ensure the equal distribution of fishing opportunities, and a view of a world in which fishers are constantly subject to the harsh whims of nature.

Abstract:
This chapter explores ‘image writing’, an independent nonfiction film practice of experimenting with and ‘writing’ through moving images as an artistic expression and cultural intervention in contemporary mainland China. As a concept similar to caméra-stylo that was advocated by Alexandre Astruc in his influential article ‘The Future of Cinema’ (1948), its motivation and aesthetic features are culturally and socially rooted in Chinese reality. The aesthetic form associated with yingxiang xiezuo can be understood as ‘essayistic’ in the sense that it is influenced by a Chinese literary essay tradition, Chinese language expression and socio-political conditions in China. Kiki Tianqi Yu argues that current criticism and theorisation around the essay film is largely rooted in western film studies; and that features of the essayistic or the ‘screen-writing’ process in cultures with different literary traditions, socio-political contexts and linguistic structures, such as those in China, require different methods of interrogation. The chapter includes a close reading of Chinese Zhao Liang’sBehemoth (2015), foremost his use of parallelism and juxtaposition.

Abstract:
Mixed mode fatigue tests are conducted using surface cracked specimen. Slant surface cracked specimens are made where crack angle is 15°, 30°, 45° and 60°. It is shown that factory roof is made at deepest point of surface crack due to ΔKIII, and crack growth rate decreases by the factory roof. Fatigue crack growth is simulated using S-version FEM (Finite Element Method) using crack growth criteria. It is shown that conventional crack growth criteria are not available to predict fatigue crack growth with factory roof. In this study, modified criterion for the prediction of crack growth rate is

Orang Dayak merupakan penduduk tertua penghuni Pulau Kalimantan yang kini masih ada. Ada ratusan rumpun Dayak yang dipisahkan oleh lingkungan geografis dan perbedaan bahasa, tetapi pada dasarnya mereka mempunyai budaya yang hampir sama. Tulisan ini bertujuan menjelaskan kepercayaan Kaharingan sebagai salah satu kepercayaan leluhur yang masih berlangsung pada kehidupan orang Dayak di Kalimantan. Metode yang digunakan adalah deskriptif analitik dengan pendekatan etnoarkeologi.
