An der Webergasse in Kleinbasel stehen noch zahlreiche alte Häuser. Das kleine Gärtchen (Hinterhof) hinter dem Haus an der Webergasse 25 liegt über dem zugeschütteten Abschnitt des Hinteren Teichs, eines Hauptarms der drei innerhalb der Stadtmauern gelegenen Kleinbasler Gewerbekanäle, der am 3. September 1917 aufgehoben und trockengelegt worden ist. Im hinteren Teil des Hauses konnten zwei Zimmer vollständig ausgegraben werden. Verschiedene im Laufe der Zeit im Haus ausgeübte Gewerbe haben Spuren im Boden hinterlassen. Eine grosse, innen mit Holz verkleidete, quadratische Grube, bei der unter Anrechnung des nicht erhaltenen Splintholzes mit einem Fälldatum frühestens nach 1560 gerechnet werden darf, gehörte wohl zu einer Gerberei, wie der damals unmittelbar hinter dem Haus vorbeiführende Gewerbekanal nahelegt. Zu einem späteren Zeitpunkt wurden zwei runde Gerbgruben eingegraben, die als gemauerte Negative mit Abdrücken von Holzbottichen und Resten von horizontalen Rutenbündeln (zum zusammenhalten der Dauben) erhalten waren. Als dritte Generation von Gerb- oder Färbeinrichtungen sind zwei rechteckige, aus Backsteinen gemauerte Becken zu bezeichnen.

Der Beitrag unterstreicht die Bedeutung des kollektiven Handelns und die Rolle des Staates bei der Verbesserung der sozialen und wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen von Landarbeitern und Kleinbauern. Die Autoren argumentieren, dass wirtschaftliche Aufwertung nicht automatisch zu sozialer Aufwertung für Arbeiter und Kleinproduzenten führt, und sie untersuchen die Bedingungen, die einer sozialen Aufwertung förderlich sind. Die asymmetrischen Machtverhältnisse zwischen den Akteuren in der landwirtschaftlichen Wertschöpfungskette errichten Barrieren, die die soziale Aufwertung von Kleinbauern und Landarbeitern behindern. Durch kollektive Aktionen der gegenwärtig in den landwirtschaftlichen Wertschöpfungsketten Unterprivilegierten und durch die Bemühungen der Staaten können diese Barrieren abgebaut werden. Ausgehend von keynesianischer Entwicklungstheorie, Arbeitsmarkttheorien und dem Machtressourcenansatz dokumentiert der Beitrag drei erfolgreiche Beispiele aus Pakistan und Brasilien, wo kollektives Handeln und staatliches Engagement Barrieren gegen die Aufwertung teilweise abgebaut haben.

Abstract. Verfügungsrechte über Land haben für Kleinbauern in Entwicklungsländern überlebenswichtige Funktionen. Allerdings verfügen sie in der Regel über einen quantitativ und qualitativ sehr eingeschränkten Zugang zu dieser Ressource. Außerdem bestehen selten gesicherte property rights in Form von formalisierten Eigentumsrechten. Die bestehenden Interessenkoalitionen der politischen und wirtschaftlichen Eliten sowie die institutionelle und finanzielle Schwäche des Staates bilden weitere Unsicherheitsfaktoren für die kleinbäuerlichen Verfügungsrechte. In Brasilien ist die Landfrage seit jeher von besonders heftigen Konflikten geprägt, da durch die phasenhafte Erschließung des Landesinneren und die Herausbildung von Pionierfronten heute zeitlich und räumlich unterschiedliche Bodenrechtstypen aufeinander treffen. Traditionelle Verfügungsrechte über Land,die meist kollektive Elemente miteinbeziehen, stehen individuellen, staatlich verbrieften property rights gegenüber und werden häufig von informellen Individualrechten überlagert. Wie sich diese Situation auf Verwundbarkeit und Überlebensstrategien von Kleinbauern auswirkt, wird anhand von drei Fallbeispielen aus der Pantanalregion in Brasilien analysiert.

Im Rahmen der in den Jahren 1988 bis 1991 durchgeführten Sanierungsarbeiten am Kleinen Klingental ergab sich für die Basler Denkmalpflege die Möglichkeit, den Kern der Kleinbasler Klosterniederlassung, der in diese Gebäudegruppe eingebettet ist, baugeschichtlich zu erforschen. Da die Ergebnisse der baugeschichtlichen Untersuchungen am Kleinen Klingental ausführlich publiziert werden, soll im folgenden nur kurz auf die Kleinbasler Stadtmauer, von der ein Teilstück freigelegt und nachgewiesen werden konnte, eingegangen werden. Der in die Nordfassade des kasernenseitigen Flügels des Kleinen Klingentals integrierte Stadtmauerabschnitt ist noch in der originalen Höhe erhalten.

In diesem Aufsatz werden die in den Jahren 1989, 1992, 1995, und 1997/98 erfolgten Untersuchungen der Kleinbasler Häuser Webergasse 3 bis 7 vorgestellt, um die Entwicklung der Häuserzeile - soweit dies möglich ist - nachzuzeichnen.

Die untersuchte Liegenschaft Webergasse 26 steht auf einer von 13 einst nebeneinander aufgereihten Riemenparzellen an der oberen Webergasse im Kleinbasel. Sie besteht aus einem schlicht gehaltenen Vorderhaus und einem kleinen Hinterhaus. Diese Art von Anwesen gehörte in der Regel zu kleinen, mittelständischen Gewerbebetrieben.

Der Hattstätterhof ist ein herrschaftliches Gebäude aus dem 16. Jahrhundert, das wie ein kleines Schloss mit einer eigenen zinnenbekrönten Umfassungsmauer am Südende der rheinseitigen Kleinbasler Stadtmauer liegt. Diese Mauer sowie das daran angebaute neuzeitliche Nebengebäude des Hattstätterhofes, die sogenannte «Mausefalle», wurden zwischen 1986 und 1989 umgebaut und renoviert.

Die 1990 geplante Innenrenovierung der Kartäuserkirche in Kleinbasel erforderte nur geringe Eingriffe ins Erdreich; lediglich unter dem Lettner war eine geringfügige Absenkung des Fussbodens für die Verlegung einer Bodenheizung vorgesehen. Im eigentlichen Chor war eine umfassende Sanierung der verschmutzten Wände notwendig, das darunter liegende Mauerwerk wurde freigelegt und der vom Verputz entblösste Mauerstreifen fotografisch dokumentiert. Die Ergebnisse der archäologischen und baugeschichtlichen Untersuchungen werden im vorliegenden Bericht vorgestellt.

Seit jeher lag die Parzelle zwar am Stadtrand bzw. am Rheinufer, doch während sie bis zum Abbruch der rheinseitigen Kleinbasler Stadtmauer im Jahre 1863 nur von der Landseite her erschlossen war, war sie danach von zwei Gassen her zugänglich. Im Innern des Hinterhauses konnte bei den Maueruntersuchungen mit grosser Wahrscheinlichkeit die mittelalterliche Stadtmauer nachgewiesen werden. Zudem werden im Bericht die bei den Untersuchungen registrierten Befunde vorgestellt, soweit sie für die Baugeschichte aus der Zeit vor dem Neubau dieser Liegenschaft (1824/25) von Belang sind.

Neben dem Chor der Klingentalkirche befand sich der Friedhof des Klosters Klingental, der 1450 erwähnt wird. Nach der Reformation wurde er 1541 den Hintersassen (Nicht-Bürgern) und dem Dienstvolk von Kleinbasel zugewiesen. 1635 nahm der Friedhof Pesttote auf, später nur noch Ertrunkene. Seit 1779 wird er nicht mehr benutzt. Die Tiefe der Baugrube von ca. 1 m reichte bereits aus, um 5 Gräber (eines davon eine Doppelbestattung) zu stören. Im Aushub konnten als Streufunde noch die Reste von mindestens 8 weiteren Individuen geborgen werden.

Através de uma analise da obra cinematográfica de Peter Weir, inspirada no romance de N.H. Kleinbau, este artigo se propõe a refletir - além do estranho pseudo-romantismo do filme - sobre as figuras do literário e de uma “taumaturgia” da função de professor de literatura. Elaborando uma reflexão analógica em torno da lenda do flautista de Hamelin, os autores nos levam a repensar fundamentalmente a questão da literatura e da filosofia americanas no que elas carregam de aspiração poética e democrática marcada pelo perfeccionismo moral.

Tujuan pada penelitian ini untuk mengetahui pengaruh permainan bola voli yang dimodifikasi terhadap kadar hormon Insuline-like growth factor-1. Metode yang digunakan The Randomized Pretest-Posttest Group Design dengan Pengambilan sampel menggunakan teknik rumus oleh Higgins dan Kleinbaum, dengan hasil 20 subjek. Selanjutnya subjek ditentukan berdasarkan kriteria inklusi dan eksklusi dan di bagi kedalam kelompok eksperimen dan kontrol. Kelompok eksperimen diberikan intervensi modifikasi permainan bola voli dan kelompok kontrol tanpa perlakuan. Darah diambil 24 jam sebelum intervensi olahraga dan 24 jam setelah intervensi. Modifikasi permainan bola voli dilakukan selama 6 minggu dengan 3x intervensi dalam 1 minggu. Hasil data serum di analisis dengan SPSS 25. Hasil dari uji One Way Anova kelompok modifikasi dengan kelompok control menunjukkan nilai p value yaitu 0,000. Sedangkan pada uji Paired Sample T-Test untuk tes awal dan tes akhir pada kelompok modifikasi permainan bola voli nilai p value yaitu 0,000. Hasil penelitian ini disimpulkan ada pengaruh menggunakan modifikasi permainan bola voli terhadap anak prepubertas.

Whilst their 'death' has often been certified, books remain highly important to most professions and academic disciplines. Analyses of citations received by epidemiologic texts may complement other views on epidemiology. The objective was to assess the number of citations received by some books of epidemiology and public health, as a first step towards studying the influence of epidemiological thought and thinking in academia. For this purpose, Institute for Scientific Information/ Thomson Scientific - Web of Science/ Web of Knowledgedatabase was consulted, in May 2006. The book by Rothman & Greenland appeared to have received the highest number of citations overall (over 8,000) and per year. The books by Kleinbaum et al, and by Breslow & Day received around 5,000 citations. In terms of citations per year the book by Sackett et al ranks 3rd, and the one by Rose, 4th of those included in this preliminary study. Other books which were influential in the classrooms collected comparatively less citations. Results offer a rich picture of the academic influences and trends of epidemiologic methods and reasoning on public health, clinical medicine and the other health, life and social sciences. They may contribute to assess epidemiologists' efforts to demarcate epidemiology and to assert epistemic authority, and to analyze some historical influences of economic, social and political forces on epidemiological research.

Zusammenfassung Trotz eines geringen Apfelkonsums von nur ca. 2 kg/Kopf/Jahr ist Indien mit ca. 2,3 Mio. t (2017) Äpfeln – auf 314.000 ha – nach China, USA, Polen und der Türkei – der fünftgrößte Apfelproduzent der Welt; dabei macht der Apfelanbau nur 2,4 % der gesamten Obstproduktion des Landes aus und konzentriert sich auf die 4 nordwestlichen Provinzen Jammu und Kaschmir (ca. 70 %), Himachal Pradesh (ca. 20 %), Uttarakhand (ca. 10 %) und Arunachal Pradesh, wo in Höhen von 1000–3500 m am Fuße des Himalaya mit 800–1600 Kältestunden (CH – Chilling hours) ausreichend Kältereiz für die Blütenbildung zur Verfügung steht. Apfel ist für Kleinbauern – im Vergleich zu Gemüse – eine lukrative Kultur, trotz geringer Ernteerträge auf Hanglagen von durchschnittlich 10 t/ha aus der ‘Red Delicious‘-Gruppe, ursprünglich auf Sämlingsunterlage. Erhebliche Verluste entstehen durch unsachgemäße Ernte, Mangel an Obstlagern und für die langen Entfernungen und schlechten Straßen häufig unzureichende (plastikfreie) Verpackung aus Stroh und Zeitungspapier in Kartons oder hohen harten Holzkisten und Transport ohne Kühlung. Exportiert werden Mangos, Tafeltrauben und Granatäpfel und ca. 18.000 t Äpfel im Wert von 9 Mio. US $ in das angrenzende Bangladesh und Nepal. Ein Importembargo für Äpfel aus China seit Mai 2017, offiziell wegen Schädlingsbefall, reduzierte die Apfelimporte von 370.000 t (2016/17) auf 250.000 t in 2017/18 und 270.000 t in 2018/19. Importiert werden Äpfel der Sorten ‘Fuji‘, ‘Red Delicious‘, ‘Gala‘, ‘Granny Smith‘ u. a. aus US, (China), Neuseeland, Chile und Südtirol; bisher stammte die Hälfte der Apfelimporte aus Washington State, deren Einfuhrzoll nach Wirtschaftssanktionen von 50 auf 75 % angehoben wurde. Der indische Markt bzw. Konsument bevorzugt große, rote (oder grüne) Äpfel mit geringen Schalenfehlern. Die hohen Großhandelspreise von 28–35 Rs/kg (0,34–0,43 €/kg) für heimische und 56–145 Rs/kg (0,69–1,77 €/kg) für Importäpfel im Januar 2019 bieten Apfelexporteuren ein Marktpotential von ca. 200 Mio. € jährlich. Hohe Preise und Handarbeit dominieren in der Apfel-Wertschöpfungskette, die so auch vielen ungelernten Menschen ein Einkommen sichert.

The case of John Keating, a charismatic English teacher and students of an elite boarding school (Welton Academy), attracted millions of audiences around the world in front of cinemas and televisions. "And the Oskar goes to ..." was heard in 1990 by the screenplay writer Tom Schulman, and was nominated for Best Picture, Best Leading Actor and Best Director. One of the first Polish reviews of the film took place on Polskie Radio in the same year, during a program hosted by Anna Retmaniak. - "It is a wonderful film" - she informed enthusiastically, adding - "[...] what (the teacher - M.P.) instilled in young people remained in their hearts and minds forever." On the other hand, what this article can "instill" in the minds and hearts of the readers is the increased resistance to the manipulation of the content of the script by the producers of the film and, consequently, a pedagogical deception, which we also fell at our own request. As educators, we have not examined the differences between the original scenario (script) and its subsequent adaptations. It turns out that the narrative of the film is built on the themes of John Keating's fear and dying, and not - as we thought so far - on the phenomenon of his teaching talent. At the same time, we have not indicated cultural differences, resulting in our country's incorrect reception of such categories as: charisma, professional vocation, leadership or elitism. Readers of the book of the same title (Kleinbaum, 2007, 2018, 1st Polish edition 1994) and participants of theatrical performances (dir. P. Ratajczak). The article does not exclude those arguments that credibly argue for the uniqueness and attractiveness of the work. However, in order to understand its phenomenon, it is necessary to analyze the removed fragments of the scenario, revealing the reasons for teachers and candidates for this profession and the effects of the hidden truth.

Involuntarily celibate men (Incels) form online communities in which they “often bemoan their lack of a loving relationship with a woman while simultaneously dehumanizing women and calling for misogynistic violence” (Glace et al., 2021, p. 288). Several studies investigate this dehumanization and misogyny including (gendered) hate speech in online comments from Incels (e.g., Glace et al., 2021). However, not all online comments from Incels contain misogyny or gendered hate speech. To get a better understanding of the phenomenon of Incels, it would be better to not only focus on these problematic comments. Thus, we propose a new construct called “Online Incel speech”, which is defined as the sum of all online comments from Incels that are related to Inceldom, that is, being or becoming an Incel. In an approach to provide an extensive system of categorization, Grau Chopite (2022) synthesized codebooks from several studies on Incels (see example studies table note) and put it to an empirical test. She found that most Incel comments found online can be categorized into three subdimensions. The first two subdimensions cover framing by Incels, namely how Incels frame the subjective causes of becoming an Incel and how they frame the subjective emotional consequences of being an Incel. Both subdimensions can also be interpreted as part of a subjective theory (sensu Groeben et al., 1988) of Inceldom. In contrast to this, the third subdimension does not consist of framing, but of observable verbal behaviors, which are often linked to gendered hate speech. When trying to categorize online comments from Incels, former studies often applied the construct “Hybrid Masculinities” (e.g., Glace et al, 2021). This construct from Bridge and Pascoe (2014) suggests that “some men develop masculinities which appear to subvert, but actually reaffirm, White hegemonic masculinities” (Glace et al., 2021, p. 289). Glace et al. (2021) structure the construct into three subdimensions, namely (1) discursive distancing (claiming distance from hegemonic masculine roles without actually relinquishing masculine power), (2) strategic borrowing (appropriating the cultures of nondominant groups of men), and (3) fortifying boundaries (continually using hegemonic standards to constrain masculinity and demeaning men who fail to meet them). However, the construct only covers a part of Inceldom, which Glace et al. (2021) indirectly acknowledge by adding two inductive categories, that is, hostile sexism (shaming and degrading women) and suicidality (reporting suicidal thoughts, feelings, and intentions). Field of application/theoretical foundation: The construct “Online Incel speech” was coined by Grau Chopite (2022), and there are currently no other studies making use of it. However, there are studies (e.g., Vu & Lynn, 2020; also see the entry “Frames (Automated Content Analysis”) based on the framing theory by Entman (1991) where the subdimension “subjective causes” would correspond to Entman’s “causal interpretation frame”, while the “subjective emotional consequences” would correspond to Entman’s “problem definition frame”. The “subjective causes” also correspond to the “discursive distancing” and the “emotional consequences” to “suicidality” in the construct of Hybrid Masculinities. The third subdimension “verbal behavior” corresponds to gendered online hate speech (e.g., Döring & Mohseni, 2019), but also to “hostile sexism” and “fortifying boundaries” in the construct of Hybrid Masculinities. References/combination with other methods: The study by Grau Chopite (2022) employs a quantitative manual content analysis using a deductive approach. Studies based on the construct of Hybrid Masculinities also employ manual online content analyses or manual thematic analyses, but those are often qualitative in nature (e.g., Glace et al., 2021). Framing is also often assessed with manual content analyses (e.g., Nitsch & Lichtenstein, 2019), but newer studies try to assess it computationally (e.g., Vu & Lynn, 2020). Hate speech is often assessed with manual content analyses (e.g., Döring & Mohseni, 2019) and surveys (e.g., Oksanen et al., 2014), but some newer studies try to assess it computationally (e.g., Al-Hassan & Al-Dossari, 2019). As Online Incel Speech is related to framing and gendered hate speech, it seems plausible that manual content analyses of Online Incel Speech could be combined with computational analyses, too, to enable the investigation of large samples. However, computational analyses of subtle forms of verbal behavior can be challenging because the number of wrong categorizations increases (e.g., for sexism detection see Samory et al., 2021; for hate speech detection see Ruiter et al., 2022).
