Full textWhoever wants to question the works of klossowski in the perspective of the simulacra should perhaps begin to wonder about what this term means in this context. Klossowski was not content with a systematic mise en scone of this concept throughout the different issues he deals with. Whatever it is about, a historical fact, a religious face or an episode of everyday life, klossowski's scene can't be reduced to a mere representation of a theme. Under the constant authority of the simulacra, the scene never stops throwing a suspicious light on its own truth. Thus the experience of klossowski stans as the result of the fragile and suspicious compromise in which he finds himself constrained, a compromise revealed by the untruthful voice and the spying look. This compromise is the frame for the gesture of suspicion, precisely given where the aesthetics of the mask meets the logic of the zigzag. Within this compromise, the experience of klossowski seems to acknowledge the demand of the image as it is conceived by the greeks, that is to say as an attention between the aesthetics pleasure and the exigence of ethics

Full textThe purpose of this study is: 1. To underline the sources of the work of Pierre Klossowski; 2. To demonstrate the modus operandi of Klossowski's texts. The thesis illustrates the "esoteric" references: theologies (Paganism and Christianism), occultism and foremost alchemy; we demonstrate how the Klossowski's texts work: what we call "manifestations occultantes", pneumatology, "mystery" and hermetic Art. To reach this goal, our interpretation intends to articulate a dualism - or more accurately a "dualitude" - in between body and spirit. This "dualitude" being exposed, we propose an accentuation of the spiritual side of our dual scheme, so that there is a clear emphasis of the spirit over the letter, of the interpretations over pure facts, of the immaterial over matter, of the difference over the identical. Not that we intend to negate the body to promote a full blown spiritualism, but that we have to insist upon the signature of things, on the principle that Physics have to presuppose Metaphysics, and that Metaphysics needs bodies to be build on. The thesis is composed of a detailed lecture of Le "bain de Diane" (Diana's Bath), a phenomenological study of "Le Baphomet", some remarks on "Les lois de l'hospitalité" (Laws of Hospitality), in particular on "l'instant de la porte ouverte" (the open door moment), and an interpretation of Klossowski's interpretation of Nietzsche. The object of this work is to elucidate the difficulties in the literary and philosophical work of Klossowski

Full textThis thesis concerns perversion as a structure. The pervers subject is bound to denying (verleugnung) castration in the other. Through this way, he tries to make the other exist as complet, full, relieved from castration. To do this he tries to reduce himself to the object in which he is identified in the logic of his phantasy. His aim lies only in enjoyment. The pervet fetichises enjoyment. In this attempt, he fails, the other of the law (of castration) separates hi m forever from. . . The other sex. The voyeurist is identified to the object sight which he tries to restitute to the other so as to complete it. The work of pierre klossowski - born in 1905 -, fictional, theoritical and plastic, demonstrates the modalities of this failure of castration. It demonstrates how the subject can give an answer to this failure. We say work insofar as klossowski is his work. Far from the presuppositions of "applied" psychoanalysis, this thesis puts knowledge and teaching on the side of the wor k. It is in this that the work - here klossowski's - is "seen" by psychoanalysis

Full textThis thesis follows a twofold approach. Firstly, it consists of textual genetics applied to Pierre Klossowski's unpublished manuscripts relating to La monnaie vivante (1970), an analysis which is accompanied by a theoretical and historical contextualisation. On the basis of previously unpublished material, the aim is to enrich and complicate the situation of Klossowski's thought in relation to his contemporaries, particularly from the perspective of a general economy of subjectivation that can be placed in dialogue with the works of Georges Bataille, Walter Benjamin, Günther Anders, Gilles Deleuze, Michel Foucault and Gilbert Simondon. This contextualisation also takes account of the relationship between the French theoretical field of structuralism and that of cybernetics in the United States, as two interdisciplinary approaches with well-known links that form part of the genealogy of German media thought. Secondly, this research consists of adapting and translating Klossowski's theoretical proposal in its transversal dimension, with a view to its implementation in contemporary discussions within media thinking. In this sense, it is a question of addressing the relationships between the economy of affects developed by Klossowski, insofar as it outlines a processual or general aesthetic articulating processes of subjectivation adaptable to a computerised context, and recent transformations in media thinking: ecotechnics and relational thinking, media archaeology, analysis of cultural techniques. Indeed, insofar as it addresses processes of subjectivation from the point of view of the materiality of industrial and impulsive apparatuses, Klossowski's general economy resonates with the different areas of media thinking that have recently addressed the environmental, anthropological and materialist dimensions of media use. From a broader perspective, this thesis interrogates a genealogical line of contemporary posthumanities. In so doing, it explores a lineage of Nietzschean posthumanism and its relationship with media theory and the various fields that surround it, that preceded it and that nourish it today. Finally, the aim of this approach is to bring theory up to date, so as to enable a novel analysis of the productions of subjectivity inscribed in different computerised devices

Full textHYPOTHESIS: The literary works of Bataille and Klossowski have multiple convergences but also differences. We seek to place them in parallel in order to determine how their fiction work unfolds as a sovereign art, beyond all meaning, and as an artistic expression of the forces of the naked life and the eternal return concept of Nietzsche. OBJECTIVES: 1. To establish which lines of thought of Bataille and Klossowski are developed inside their literature work and its relation to the notion of the eternal return 2. To show how different meanings of the Dionysus symbol are deployed along their literature. 3. To show the literature of Batai I le and Klossowski as a succession of images that express intensities and decoded forces THEORETICAL FRAMEWORK: The central theoretical dereference for the analysis is the philosophy work of Bataille and Klossowski, in close relationship with Friedrich Nietzsche work. We refers as well to the notion (developed by us) call "The image in fire", conceptualization that is enriched by the work of Deleuze, Derrida, Badiou, Blanchot and Quignard. Additionally we use a variety of authors to show all aspects of the Dionysus symbol. METHODOLOGY: Our analysis is made based on four perspectives: the philosophy work of Bataille and KIossowski, Nietzsche's eternal return notion, Dionysus symbol and "The imagen in fire" notion. We boarded the literary work of Bataille and Klossowski through various notions, but fundamentally we analyze their stories as a series of images (in insisting repetition of the difference) that create a theater of intensities. CONCLUSION : The works of Georges Bataille and Pierre Klossowski are configured as parallel (as a display of art that have convergences but also that creates infinite number of divergences in a labyrinthine sense). Differences displaying images that rise as an expression of the forces of life, while these images are consumed in a brilliant expression of a sovereign art: gesture that manifests itself as a theater where the affirmation of life and the instant eternally wanted occur.

Full textThe principal problematics of Pierre Klossowski’s various writings (novels, literary and artistic criticisms, theological and philosophical essays) is to think about the literature, the art and the society from a theological and metaphysical point of view. In his theatrical theology, the theology represents a transcendental ethic for God and for the maintenance of the social order, while the essential of the theatre in the antique sense (synonym of the art in general) is the ludic and erotic contravention. Through the artistic contravention of the sacred eroticism, his aim is the return of a Christian religious faith concerning the contemporary society. Nevertheless, this thesis is not a simple neutral analysis of the Klossowski’s theatrical theology. From a historical poetics’ point of view, this thesis is a critical work opposite his theological and metaphysical way of thinking regarding the literature, the art and the society. The historical poetics which does not presuppose unhistorically a transcendental essence, propose an another conception of art, literature, and society

Full textThe contemporain novel may be stages the elements of a new quest : the former graal is here replaced by desire, as such always submitted to unfullfillness of language. This study tries to highlight this hypothesis, speaking about "heroism of lack", or about a triumphing hero on the stage of language. So we must make a link between two concepts : heroism on one hand, and the lack as an ideal on the other hand. The first purpose of this study is the caracterisation of such an heroism in the current novel. Apparently, the hero no longer tries to find back fullfillness but, conversely works for the claiming of unfullfillness inherent to the existence of desire. This desire is meant psychanalytelly. This work consisted in verifying the axiom stating that the duras' heroes first either aim at maintainaing the gapp between the event and its symbolization, or maintaining the movement of desire more directly. Of course these two aims can both be present. The duras' text worked as a catalysor

Full textProperly speaking, epics have not been written in France for two centuries, but the genre continues to influence contemporary literature. In particular, the “double image” of the epic as the Romantic thinkers construed it still informs both the reinterpretation of classical epics and the contemporary novel. On the one hand, it legitimizes the present by condemning the epic to the past, but without ceasing to perpetrate it as a universal monument. The works of numerous philologists such as Georges Dumézil or Madeleine Biardeau bear witness to this disparity. For their part, translators of epic literature such as Philippe Jaccottet or Pierre Klossowski criticize in diverse ways the philological paradigm and its paradoxes. On the other hand, the romantics invented an epic register which tries to retain the essence of the epic as a genre, transferring it to the novel. However, the texts of Jean Giono, Julien Gracq and Claude Simon indicate that this “epic style” inherits the difficulties of the epic genre itself when it comes to the modern age, even calling into question the modern understanding of literature. Finally, modern adaptations seem to constitute an alternative to the modern paradigm of the epic. However, in France they are often limited to simple rewriting and thus remain faithful to the idealized conception of the epic as a universal utterance (Jean-Claude Carrière). As far as the genres of fantasy and “space opera” are concerned, their narrative rewriting of “the myth of the death of epic” serves their own aim of self-legitimization; their specificity is therefore constructed in the very terms of modern literature that they re-appropriate and put into question
Morii, Ryo. "André Gide, une oeuvre à l'épreuve de l'économie." Sorbonne Paris Cité, 2015. http://www.theses.fr/2015USPCC001.
Full textThis dissertation consists in synthesizing the theme of the economy in Gide. By taking as main corpus the works of the end of the 19th century, from Paludes (1895) to L'Immoraliste (1902) we try to show that the interest of the author for the economy is not only noticeable in his last period, that Les Faux-monnayeurs (1926) represent, but also at the beginning of his career. During the period under consideration, the writer has access to several questions concerning the economy of expenditure, as certain contemporary and modem ideologists (Nietzsche, Mauss, Bataille, Derrida, etc. ) take them seriously, and one can confirm here the attitude of the author who tries to reconcile capitalism with the counter-economy. Besides, Gide reacts, in his own way, to the politico-economic tendencies under the Third Republic during the 1890s, notably to the solidarism which Charles Gide, uncle economist of Gide, promotes and to the crisis of the gold currency which the uncle questions since the same period. Gide's reaction presupposes his interest for the social and monetary economy that the republicans of the period adopt. Moreover, beyond the "economy of the ego" which constitutes the foundation of the gidien economy, Gide presents the theme of the libidinal economy and the mintage of the body, the theme that allows us to consider the affinity with the thought of Pierre Klossowski. By replacing the "economic" texts of Gide in the historic and intellectual context of the time and by considering them possibly from the modern point of view, we point out the peculiarity and the topicality of the thought of the author as well as the impact of diverse questions which this thought implies
Sylvain, Laurence. "La rencontre et ses passages. La singularité de Pierre Klossowski." Thesis, 2021. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/25609.
Full textThis thesis examines the work and life of Pierre Klossowski as a figure of the literary phenomenon. Klossowski’s work exemplifies, both concretely and abstractly, a particular economy of the literary which is the epistemocritical basis of this thesis, for it crosses the boundaries between genres, medias and techniques of the 20th century. Articulating a conception of the literary as an encounter that refuses to be confined to simple duality, the thesis proposes an epistemological reflection on the literary phenomenon and on the exemplarity of Klossowski’s figure in such a context, a figure whose formation and the way in which it acts on the literary itself are also deployed in the thesis. By taking into consideration the historically late formation of current knowledge institutions and their effect on the modern conception of disciplines, the thesis breaks down the current schemas of disciplinary categorizations and rethinks the epistemological power of the literary according to an economy of the encounter that is analyzed through Pierre Klossowski’s transdisciplinary productions.
Chénier, Jean-François. "La poétique pathique de Georges Bataille et de Pierre Klossowski." Thèse, 2013. http://hdl.handle.net/1866/10220.
Full textThis thesis aims to show how the novel or literature in general embodies its own form of knowledge that Pierre Klossowski names “connaissance pathétique” (pathetic knowledge). This knowledge derives from emotivity rather than reason alone and relies on affects and percepts rather than on ideas and concepts. The works of Georges Bataille and Pierre Klossowski will serve both as the examples and the objects of this analysis. These two authors’ fictional writings inevitably appeal to a philosophical pathos that implicate the characters as well as the reader. This “pathetic knowledge” that the subject is called to experience comes to be through the literary process seeking to name the unnamable. This particular aesthetic draws upon Nietzsche’s work, the themes of which taken up in Bataille and Klossowski writings and appear on the levels of subject matter and narration. The resulting writing strategy leads the reader along, presenting a system of provocative, contradictory, and ambiguous interpretations that open up an affect-oriented knowing or thinking. In studying the expression and content of this literary knowing, we will examine how the authors rely on strategies of transgression and simulacra to enable the characters and readers to experience thinking as a form of pathos. In analyzing this “pathetic” poetics as the privileged form of narration in Bataille and Klossowski, this thesis first examines the works of Nietzsche (and, to a lesser extent, those of Sade) in order to understand their impact on the French authors’ works. The thesis’ second part, which focuses on Bataille’s and Klossowski’s writings, demonstrates how their works provoke in the reader a pathetic experience of knowing, particular to literature, that exceeds the knowing ascribed to rationalism. The corpus explored in this research includes Nietzsche’s Birth of Tragedy, The Genealogy of Moral and The Gaya Scienza; Bataille’s L’histoire de l’oeil, Divinus Deus and L’abbé C.; and Klossowski’s La vocation suspendue, Les lois de l’hospitalité and Le Baphomet.

Full textThe present thesis seeks to address, in a reading of the text Le bain de Diane by Pierre Klossowski, the specific modalities through which literature aims to understand the complex ties between concepts of 'immanence' and 'transcendence'. To do so, I begin by introducing the concepts necessary for such an undertaking ⎯ reading authors such as Plato, Apuleius, Pierre Hadot, Gilles Deleuze and Michel Foucault, all of whom have contributed to the concept of the 'demon' as described in Klossowski’s work ⎯ and by introducing the concept of 'simulacrum', a key concept in Klossowsi’s writing. By tracing the creation and representation of these concepts in various texts and then identifying them in Le bain de Diane, I attempt to demonstrate the importance of literary figuration in our complex relationship with concepts of the 'sensitive' and the 'suprasensitive'.
