Full textEndoprosthesis operation of the hip joint relieves or removes pain, restores functional leg stability and function of the supporting foot (Drobniewski et al., 2012). The obsolete hip joint is changed to cemented, cementless or hybrid hip prosthesis (Laupacis et al., 2002). Object: patients emotional condition and hip joint function after hip joint endoprosthesis operation. The purpose of the study was to evaluate influence of physical therapy between cemented and cementless hip prosthesis groups after hip joint endoprosthesis operation due to coxarthritis at early rehabilitation process. Hypothesis: applying physical therapy after hip joint endoprosthesis operation at early rehabilitation process should more improve hip joint function in cementless than in cemented hip prosthesis group. The tasks: 1) To evaluate operated hip joint function and emotional condition of the cemented hip prosthesis group before and after physical therapy. 2) To evaluate operated hip joint function and emotional condition of the cementless hip prosthesis group before and after physical therapy. 3) To compare hip joint function and emotional condition after operation between groups before and after physical therapy. The research has been done at AB „Ortopedijos technika“. All 14 patients were after hip joint endoprosthesis operations due to coxarthritis. They were divided into two groups: cemented and cementless hip prosthesis groups. Subjects were tested before and after psysical therapy use. It... [to full text]

Full textThe objective of the research: to evaluate the need of a care for the persons after hip replacement surgery in the remote postoperative period. Methods. The study is quantitative; anonymous questionnaire survey of patients and nurses has been conducted. The questionnaires were served to the patients at the medical institutions and they were filled at home. 152 questionnaires were distributed to the patients. The questionnaires were distributed to community nurses at their workplaces and filled immediately. In total 220 questionnaires were distributed to the nurses. The statistical analysis of research data was performed using SPSS 17.0 program package. Results: More than half of the patients evaluate their condition at home as satisfactory, the majority of them (77 percent) find difficulties to get to a family doctor, 15 percent used the home nursing services provided by the nurses, the patients at home are often being nursed by their family members (91 percent). Satisfaction of physiological needs is the least that changed to the patients. Half of the patients (51 percent) admitted they were feeling dependent on others. The patients of the research would often like to communicate with the nurses (26 percent), services of patients training (26 percent), injections to the muscles (21 percent) or vein (26 percent). The nurses believe that for the patients it is equally important to satisfy the needs of self-awareness, role function and reciprocal (mutual) dependence. The nurses... [to full text]

Full textImportance of the study: Hip joint replacement – one of the most common and clinically successful procedures, which provides longterm results, in order to reduce pain, increase life quality in patients with hip joint diseases (Ferrata et al., 2011). Object of study: physiotherapy effectiveness on hip range of motion, hip muscle strength, pain and functional mobility in patients after hip replacement. Goal of the study: to assess physiotherapy influence to hip joint range of motion, hip muscle strength, pain and functional mobility after hip joint replacement. Aims of the study: 1) To assess hip range of motion after hip replacement applying physiotherapy; 2) To assess hip muscle strength after hip replacement applying physiotherapy; 3) To assess hip pain changes after hip replacement applying physiotherapy; 4) To assess functional mobility changes after hip replacement applying physiotherapy Hypothesis: physiotherapy will be more affective on patients who have had hip replacement after hip column fracture than for patients who have had hip replacement because of coxarthrosis. Conclusions: 1. After physiotherapy on patients who have had hip replacement, hip range of motion statistically significant improved on patients who have had surgery after coxarthrosis. 2. After physiotherapy on patients who have had hip replacement, hip muscle strength statistically significant improved on patients who have had surgery after hip column fracture. 3. After physiotherapy on... [to full text]

Full textThe aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of physiotherapy in patients after hip replacement in second stage of rehabilitation. Duration of rehabilitation course was 30 days. The study included a group of 21 patients from Rehabilitation department in one hospital after hip replacement because of coxarthrosis. Exploration shows, that more patients were women - 19 (91%), and men – 2 (9%). The age of the patients in this group was from 50 to 70 years. The average age of them was 65,9 ± 6,09 years. Patients was grouped according to age in two groups. In first group – 7 patients who‘s age was from 50 to 65 years (33%) and in second group – 14 patients who‘s age was from 66 to 70 years (67%). The average age of the patients in first group was 58,9 ± 5,96 years, in second group – 69,4 ± 1,01 years. The effect of physiotherapy was performed using the Oxford scale, goniometry technique, Keitel‘s index, Pain Visual Analog Scale, Barthel‘s index. We evaluated these indexes at two times – before rehabilitation course and after rehabilitation course. The muscle strength after rehabilitation course increased in both groups (p<0,05). The range of motions after rehabilitation course increased in both groups (p<0,05). Level of the pain after rehabilitation course decreased in both groups (p<0,05). Keitel‘s index after rehabilitation course increased in both groups (p<0,05). Barthel‘s index after rehabilitation course increased in both groups (p<0,05).

Full textAseptic loosening is the major complication and causes more than 85% of the revisions in hips in Lithuania. The etiology of aseptic loosening is multifactorial, involving both mechanical and biological processes. Socket and stem micromotion and polyethylene wear are important factors that influence the long term durability of THA’s. The expected annual wear of polyethylene (PE) cups is approximately 0.1mm. This means that billions of submicron-sized wear particles are released in to the hip joint. These particles induce inflammatory process in the THA hip and have been recognized as a major reason for osteolysis and subsequent failure of the prosthetic hip. It has been recognized that besides other factors femoral head size significantly influences wear. Larger diameter femoral head is associated with increased volumetric wear in metal-PE THA . You would expect that the differences eventually would show up in different cumulative revision rates (CRR) for different head sizes. However few reports in the literature analyzed survival rates in THA with different diameter femoral heads and did not find a significant difference when followed up to 12 years. It is still unknown if a longer-term follow-up would reveal differences in CRR depending on head size. Our aim was to analyze cumulative revision rates in THA in order to investigate if a follow-up up to 21 years would reveal differences in CRR depending on head size. How surgical implantation technique and experience in THA... [to full text]
