Abstract:
Until the upheavals caused by the Soviet invasion, the leaders of the Naqshbandi-Mujaddidi Sufi order formed Afghanistan’s religious establishment. How this came about, however, has never been previously ascertained. This chapter examines how Muslim religious knowledge was first transmitted to Afghanistan from India through the lens of Naqshbandi-Mujaddidi Sufi manuals composed in Kabul and Peshawar at the turn of the nineteenth century. The chapter argues that these texts represent a new “handbook” genre, merging mystical theology and praxis. Before the advent of a regional print culture, the

Intensive cross-border movement of policy models is ubiquitous in the water sector. Examples include Integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM), Water User Associations (WUAs), and River Basin Organizations (RBOs), which have traveled around the world. However, despite the spread of global water policy models and their potential importance for sustainable development, scholars have struggled to develop adequate accounts of this process. To bridge this gap, we examine the extant analytical and methodological tools to study the movement of water policy models. We focus on the fit between a pol

It starts with a full business/functional diagnosis of the organization and goes through an implementation plan draft, training and knowledge transfer, and establishing value enhancement teams. Then, the organization should establish tools for monitoring and control and ensure sustainability through a process of ongoin

Abstract:
With the emergence of a powerful new breed of organization--the knowledge organization--comes a bold new challenge to the old ways of managing people. Workers with special cutting-edge knowledge and the ability to transform it into marketable goods and services can not be managed the old command-and-control way, nor even by some of the more enlightened ways developed since then. Only new ways, and old ways updated and adapted to special new situations, can work. Only in this way can innovation and productivity--the crucial ingredients for success in knowledge-based organizations--be harnessed.

Teachers, administrators, and education students need to stay abreast of these developments. Yet while the new educational software, technologies, and networks may be available, the learning theories and methods required to take complete advantage of the tools are often neglected. Professionals working in child welfare and child protection are making decisions with crucial implications for children and families on a daily basis. The types of judgements and decisions they make vary and include decisions such as whether a child is at risk of significant harm by parents, whether to remove a child from home or to reunify a child with parents after some time in care. These decisions are intended to help achieve the best interests of the child. Unfortunately, they can sometimes also doom children and families unnecessarily to many years of pain and suffering. To expand our knowledge of the universe, scientists and engineers with the space program constantly confront new challenges in vehicle design, life support, communications, and astronaut health and well-being. “How to Transform the World: Rethinking Theory and Practice” explains that the idea of the political subject-in-outline also aims to theorize a mediated relation between theory and practice. Mediation implies first that theory and practice are equally important tools of how people can change the world into a better one, and second that people must acknowledge the moment of the limit in our theorizing as well as practice, which suggests that both theory and practice are always ongoing projects. It challenges a theory that abstracts from practice, as well as a practice that abstracts from theory

Big data promises to harness the power of advanced computing to transform health and health care, including cancer research and care delivery. In health care, big data can be generated by administrative and clinical processes, by patients and families, and by machines. Ultimately, the goal of big data is to transform data into actionable knowledge with attention to four dimensions: person-level data collection; data access, exchange, and aggregation; population-level analytics; and provider, researcher, or patient-facing clinical decision support.
