Sankcioniranje prekrškov s področja javnega reda in miru je v pristojnosti državnih in občinskih varnostnih organov. Policija je generalno pristojna za vso državo, medtem ko so občinski redarji pristojni krajevno za območja svojih občin. Po zdaj veljavni zakonodaji so zakonske pristojnosti občinskih redarstev izrecno določene in zajemajo nadzor nad nedostojnim vedenjem, beračenjem na javnem mestu, uporabo nevarnih predmetov, poškodovanje uradnega napisa, oznake, odločbe, pisanje po objektih, vandalizem, nedovoljeno kampiranje, nedovoljeno uporabo živali in neupoštevanje zakonitega ukrepa uradne osebe. Za vse preostale prekrške s področja javnega reda in miru mora občinsko redarstvo ravnati po Zakonu o občinskem redarstvu in Zakonu o prekrških. V prispevku bomo prikazali tudi predvideno prihodnjo ureditev, glede na javna stališča v zvezi s predvidenimi spremembami Zakona o varstvu javnega reda in miru.
