Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Energy tourism, which is quite recent despite the fact that the practice of tourists visiting power plants, very often for educational purposes, has a long tradition in Slovenia due to power plants on the Drava River. Particularly, the oldest Fala power plant is an area where the technical field of electric power production and transmission overlaps with tourism. The article that employs the methods of participant observation, interviews with some stakeholders and content analysis focuses on some possibilities of including electric power production and transmission infrastructure into various tourist and educational programmes, including through storytelling, which is a useful tool also when it comes to presenting sustainable and socially responsible project design, considering the needs of all stakeholders involved in the process and, consequently, raising awareness and responsibility towards the environment. Based on a case study of the Kobarid substation, which is a modern sustainably designed power facility built in a Natura 2000 protected area, this article focuses on the possibilities of creating new energy tourism products by employing storytelling, new media and new technologies.

Abstract:
Abstract. The town of Kobarid is located in one of three areas with the highest seismic hazard in Slovenia. It was hit by several 1976–1977 Friuli sequence earthquakes and recently by the 1998 and 2004 Krn Mountains earthquakes which caused damage of intensity up to VII EMS-98 scale. The town is located in a small basin filled with heterogeneous glaciofluvial Quaternary sediments in which site effects due to soft sediments are expected. The existing microzonation which is based on surface geological data only is inadequate, and no borehole or geophysical data are available in the basin that would allow a modelling approach of site effects assessment. The microtremor horizontal-to-vertical spectral ratio (HVSR) method was therefore applied in order to assess the fundamental frequency of the sediments. Investigations were performed on a 100×100 m dense grid and 106 free-field measurements acquired. Clear HVSR peaks were obtained in the majority of the surveyed area. The eastern part of the basin is characterized by two well separated peaks which indicate distinct shallow and deep impedance contrasts. The iso-frequency map of sediments shows a distribution in a broad range of 1.8–22.2 Hz. The observed frequencies can be related to the total thickness of Quaternary sediments (sand, gravel) in the western part of the basin only. They are deposited over bedrock built of Cretaceous flysch. In the eastern part the obtained fundamental frequencies are influenced by the presence of a shallow conglomerate layer inside sandy gravel or lacustrine chalk. The extent of these layers was not known before. Microtremor measurements were also performed inside 19 characteristic buildings of various heights (from two to four stories), and longitudinal and transverse fundamental frequencies determined from amplitude spectra. A potential of soil-structure resonance was assessed by comparing building frequencies with the free-field sediments frequencies derived from the iso-frequency map. For two surveyed buildings a high danger of soil-structure resonance was assessed and for three buildings the danger was of medium level. The building resonant frequency of two- and three-story houses, which prevail in the area, spans the range 4–11 Hz, with an average value of 7.7 Hz. The danger of soil-structure resonance should be therefore sought in this frequency range. Since the majority of Kobarid area is characterized by lower (W part) or higher (E part) frequencies, the danger exist mainly in a relatively narrow transition zone.

What interested many of my students about the episode was that the two girls seem to speak a dialect that neither Aymo, who is Italian, nor Frederic, who is fluent in Italian,' understands. My students belived that these girls are speaking Slovenian. The only Italian they seem to understand are the words in Italian for sexual intercourse, which makes them very upset, and virgin and sister, which calm them down. It is very likely that two Slovenian girls would know a little Italian, particularly if they came from Gorizia, which at the time of the first world war was predominantly Slovene.

Johansson, Anders. Thesis, Swedish National Defence College, Swedish National Defence College, 2009. http://urn.kb.se/resolve?urn=urn:nbn:se:fhs:diva-53.

Full text
Abstract:

The purpose with this essay is to find out if Rommel used what we today call manoeuvre warfare? I choose this subject because I’m interested in infantry tactics and the breakthrough Rommel did during the twelfth battle of Kobarid. A much smaller unit made a large unit surrender. The two methods I will use are description and case study because those two methods are good to work with when to describe what happen during a battle on a specific place on the battlefield. I’ve reed different books about the twelfth battle in Kobarid and doctrines about manoeuvre warfare in the Swedish armed forces. Finally I’ve analysed the facts and drawn conclusions however Rommel used manoeuvre warfare during the battle or not.

The result is that Rommel used manoeuvre warfare at the battle of Kobarid but I don’t that think Rommel knew the words like we knew them today. Words like mission tactics or manoeuvre warfare.

Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
The article examines the archaeological site of Bizjakova hiša in Kobarid, in the area of Zgornje Posočje (Upper Soča Valley), where a burial with seven preserved horses’ skeletons and several metal finds (weapons, harness, jewellery, etc.) was found in 2010. Most of the finds are similar to the Celtic type. The burial dates back to the period around 300 BC and is part of the LT B2 phase. At the moment it is considered a singular event belonging to a ritual, which finds some confirmation in the sites of worship and in the sanctuaries in the Central European or Alpine area. It is one of the first sites in the Soča Valley where large finds dating back to the ancient La Tène period have been found; moreover, it is also the site with the largest number of horse skeletons dating back to the Iron Age.

Abstract:

The issues related to network data security were identified shortly after the inception of the first wired network. Initial protocols relied heavily on obscurity as the main tool for security provisions. Hacking into a wired network requires physically tapping into the wire link on which the data is being transferred. Both these factors seemed to work hand in hand and made secured communication somewhat possible using simple protocols. Then came the wireless network which radically changed the field and associated environment. How do you secure something that freely travels through the air as a medium? Furthermore, wireless technology empowered devices to be mobile, making it harder for security protocols to identify and locate a malicious device in the network while making it easier for hackers to access different parts of the network while moving around. Quite often, the discussion centered on the question: Is it even possible to provide complete security in a wireless network? It can be debated that wireless networks and perfect data security are mutually exclusive. Availability of latest wideband wireless technologies have diminished predominantly large gap between the network capacities of a wireless network versus a wired one. Regardless, the physical medium limitation still exists for a wired network. Hence, security is a way more complicated and harder goal to achieve for a wireless network (Imai, Rahman, & Kobara, 2006). So, it can be safely assumed that a security protocol that is robust for a wireless network will provide at least equal if not better level of security in a similar wired network. Henceforth, we will talk about security essentially in a wireless network and readers should assume it to be equally applicable to a wired network.

Abstract:
The current paper addresses modelling and simulation of spatial compliant mechanisms, which links are of one dimensional structure. Applications of compliant mechanisms in macroscopic devices (i.e. clutches, switches) offer the advantages of cost reduction due to a lower number of parts or reduced assembly time and the avoidance of friction and wear. In microscopic devices compliant mechanisms usually apply because classical joints cannot be scaled down to the desired measurements. Usually these structures can be described with respect to their kinematic and kinetic variables for beam elements. Here the basic ideas for the calculation of compliant mechanisms at finite deformations from the viewpoint of continuum mechanics and numerics are applied. A common approach to model and simulate these structures is the use of beam elements with shape functions. Usually problems occur regarding accuracy or convergence if large deformations have to be faced. Here the beam structure is described with respect to the rates of its kinematic and kinetic variables. Using a finite element approach based on transfer matrices leads to a linear Boundary Value Problem embedded into a nonlinear Initial Value Problem. The result of this method is a fast analysis program (KOBA3D), whose abilities are presented in two examples and which results are compared to reference calculations in ABAQUS.
