Abstract:
Abstract. Measurements of the hydroxyl rotational temperature for the (8,3) Meinel band have been reported from the observations of the ratio of the relative intensities of P1(2) and P1(4) lines of the OH(8,3) band at Kolhapur (16.8° N, 74.2° E, dip lat. 10.6° N) in India during the period 1 November 2002-29 April 2003 using tilting-filter photometers. Mean values of rotational temperature have been computed for 60 nights. The monthly mean value of temperature lies in the range 194(±11)-208(±18)K. The mean rotational temperature obtained from all the measurements was found to be 202±15K. The results agree with other low-latitude measurements of rotational temperature using photometric airglow techniques. Quasi-periodic fluctuations with a period of about one to two hours have been prominent on many nights. Furthermore, the results show the general agreement between observations and model (MSIS-86) predictions.

Abstract:
This chapter presents a critical narrative of early Marathi filmmaking as it took root in the studios such as Maharashtra Film Company and Prabhat Film Company. It elaborates on the artisanal, social, and ideological aspects of studio filmmaking in provincial spaces. It identifies instances of Marathi filmmaking in the silent period by briefly considering the career, works, and contribution of Baburao Painter. Then, the chapter elaborates on Prabhat Film Company by explaining its trajectory from Kolhapur to Pune. The coalescing of a Marathi regional cinema is shown in the context of concepts such as regional modernity, vernacular affiliations, bilingual filmmaking, and social respectability, through a textual and contextual analysis of the films: Ayodhyecha Raja, Sant Tukaram, and Manoos. The historical transition of the studios, from artisanal concerns to a modern industrial setup, forms the general theme of the chapter, to develop the argument that the studios forged a networked regional cultural space.

Abstract:
This research paper includes a 6 months environmental study of impact assessment of solid waste on Groundwater and Soil in and around of dumping site at Kasba Bawada, Kolhapur that includes a detailed study of the groundwater and soil characteristics. The dumping and open burning practices will led to the percolation of waste into the soil and groundwater which will eventually lead to various health and environment issues. In order to assess the groundwater and soil quality, assessment was carried out for the Groundwater and Soil near the dumping and landfill site around the 1 km radius in ecosystem is indeed an important resource which has yet to be studied on a bigger scale to meet the ever increasing demand for the water and soil for their use as resources. 6 Groundwater and 5 Soil sampling sites are selected in and around the dumping site. During the project, various physical, organic, inorganic and nutrient parameters were studied and also the detection of the heavy metals was carried out for soil and groundwater analysis. Most of the groundwater parameters are within the limit of BIS and WHO standards of drinking water except Total Solids which is higher in all sites and Nitrate which are higher than the limits in 2 sites when compared with the standards as these sites are near and around the dumping sites. The Nutrient parameters of Soil like Organic Carbon, Organic Matter, Available Phosphorous are present higher than the limit in all the sampling sites. The presence of high organic Carbon and the Organic matter with Available Phosphorous indicates the good fertility of the soil in and around the dumping site. The heavy metals are within the limit in soil when compared with the standards whereas in the groundwater, Lead, Copper, Nickel and Cadmium are present higher than the limit when compared drinking water quality standards established by the BIS and the WHO standards during the post monsoon of 2019 and pre monsoon of 2020 for other parameters.

Full text
Abstract:
The feasibility to implement fast-chemistry reactions in a three-dimensional large eddy simulation (LES) of a turbulent reacting flow using a filtered density function (FDF) technique is studied. Low-density polyethylene (LDPE) is used as an representative reaction due to the stiff nature of the ordinary differential equation (ODE’s) describing the kinetics. In FDF/LES, the chemistry needs to be evaluated many times for a large number of fictitious particles that are tracked in the flow, and therefore a constraint is put to the CPU time needed to solve the kinetics. Pope (1997) developed an in situ adaptive tabulation (ISAT) to treat complex chemistry computationally very efficiently when many evaluations of the chemistry are needed. Kolhapure and Fox (1999) successfully applied ISAT to LDPE using a quasi steady state assumption (QSSA). In the present paper, the aim is to optimize the latest version (ISAT Version 4.0, Pope, 2003) for the full LDPE reaction (i.e. without QSSA), in terms of accuracy and speed up by varying the error tolerance and the number of trees used by ISAT. For this purpose, a pairwise mixing stirred reactor (PMSR) is employed, since it forms a stringent test for the chemistry solver due to the large accessed region of composition space that can be established. For a number of trees of Ntree = 8 and an error tolerance of εtol = 10−5 the best overall performance of ISAT was obtained: compared with direct integration, a speed up factor of more than ten combined with an relative error in temperature of about 1% was found.
