Full textThis report is based on the didactic problem area mathematical problem solving in mathematics teaching and is targeted primarily at active teachers and teacher students.Current curriculum and syllabus emphasize that problem solving in mathematics teaching is a central content and an ability that students are to develop. As a goal and a means mathematical problem solving is to stimulate the development of other mathematical abilities and the mutual interaction between the abilities and the central content contributes to a complex and usually a demanding learning process for mathematics students. Through qualitative and quantitative research methods and corresponding analytical methods, this project study aims at investigating whether mathematical problem solving in groups can contribute to the creation of different solution strategies. Based on previous research and theoretical frameworks, adequate analysis tools have been developed to study the traces of the participants' mathematical problem solving abilities and the traces of the communicative processes that are visualized when the participants work with the problem sheets in groups.Analysis of the compiled result from the contribution of the participant groups indicates that successes in mathematical problem solving in groups seem to mean that mathematical concepts are communicated with several different forms of expressions. The report finally ends in proposals for possible studies that could serve as a complement to the results and conclusions of this report.

Full textAction research is an example of an educational research approach to develop teachers' professional learning. The study describes and examines how collaborative reflections and an exploratory approach in a learning community can develop professional learning amongst teachers. The research questions asked were: How do teachers describe that they develop their professional learning in a collaborative learning community with subject colleagues? How can teachers, through work in a collaborative learning community, develop and change (a) their teaching practice, (b) their understanding of the teaching practice? The theoretical framework is based on the sociocultural perspective. The survey has been conducted as a case study with an action research approach. The data has been gathered through a triangulation of data collection methods, where qualitative interviews have been influential to the analysis. The result shows that the teachers perceive that the process led to an enhanced reflective approach, an increased ability to change, deepened subject didactic discussions and new perspectives on learning. The analysis shows that teachers developed methods to clarify and communicate learning objectives for teaching and develop a more comprehensible, manageable and meaningful teaching practice. It also demonstrates how important it is that the developmental topics and actions are based on experienced problems and developmental needs in practice. When such an approach is integrated into a school's development plan, teachers can improve their professional learning and ability to change their teaching.

Full textThe Corona pandemic has affected education in many ways, and those studying Swedish as a second language are no exception. Interaction, communication, and collaborative learning are all important factors of successful second language acquisition, all of which have been reduced because of forced remote learning. One method for collaborative learning that can be enhanced using digital tools is peer response. This study has examined how the adult students at a folk high school have been affected by the forced remote learning, focusing on their studies in Swedish as a second language at high-school level. The study also investigates whether a digital peer-response system could benefit the collaborative learning process for the involved students. The study involved students and teachers at Mångkulturella Folkhögskolan in Gothenburg, Sweden, who were asked to participate through an online survey and individual interviews. The empirical result shows a vast diversity among the participants, a somewhat decreased motivation to study due to forced remote learning, and a positive attitude towards peer response as a possibility to learn from each other. Together with previous research in the fields of language acquisition, computer assisted language learning and computer supported collaborative learning, several guidelines have been developed for the development of a digital peer review system that are considered to be favourable for the studied context. These guidelines have been illustrated in a design concept that shows a suggestion as to what the digital peer response system could look like.
