Full textBackground: Communication is a two-way interaction where information is transmitted between the parties. Communicating, verbally or non-verbally, involves communicating messages, sharing information and establishing, enhancing or influencing relationships. Information is transmitted via language, audio or code as body language. These factors are essential for communication, but also for nurses to be able to perform good and safe care. Hence, it is interesting to investigate factors that affect communication and make them visible to ensure the nurses' continued work with evidence-based nursing. Purpose: The aim of the literature review was to describe factors that influence communication between nurse and patient based on nurse perspective. Method: A literature review with inductive approach. Result: The result emerged from nine scientific articles of qualitative design. The articles were summarized and presented in four main themes; language barriers, interpretation at linguistic confusion, non-verbal communication and nurse-patient relation. Conclusion: Language barriers is one factor that affects communication. A strategy is to use an interpreter. When using nonverbal communication, other strategies are used, especially body language but also utility aids. The opportunity for a good communication is influenced by the relation between nurse and patient. When difficulties occur in the nurse-patient communication, time becomes a shortcoming.

In Sweden the death of about 90 000 people each year and the number who die elsewhere than in hospital increases. This places greater demands on the palliative home care. The aim: of this study was to investigate if the interaction between nurse, relatives and patient facilitates a good care and death in palliative care. Method: The study was conducted as a literature study in which seven quantitative and ten qualitative research articles were reviewed. Results: Four categories were identified that were relevant for nursing care and death in palliative care, Communication, Relationships between nurses, patients and relatives, To die at home or in hospice and The good death. The communication was found to have a large impact on the interaction in the palliative care. The results showed that the communication involved much more than just verbal. Although humor can be regarded as trivial and unprofessional proved to have a significant impact on the interaction and contributed to the nurse came closer to the patient and the relatives. The need for education and knowledge in palliative care were found to be important for nurses but also for patients and relatives to make decisions about where and how the patient wants to be nursed.

Full textBackground: When a person suffers from cancer their entire world changes. A lack of knowledge creates a feeling of not being able to adequately grasp the situation, which is why it is important that the nurse provides decent caregiving with emphasis on entirety and communication. Purpose: The purpose of the literature study was to describe patients' experiences of the nurse's approach in relation to cancer treatment at hospital. Method: A literature review that is based on ten qualitative articles. Result: Through analysis, three main categories were found: The importance of wide knowledge by the nurse, The importance of a good nursing relationship and The importance of good caretaking that benefits the patient's well-being and their will to participate. Method of discussion: The reason, as to why there were not many articles found on the subject matter, is due to the fact that there is more research conducted from the nurse's perspective. The preunderstanding was confirmed and the authors get more insight in how important two-way communication is. Discussion of result: The patient wishes to feel involvement from the nurse and a good relationship between the two arises when good communication exists
