Abstract:
The master's thesis describes evolution of horses, its domestication and coexistence with humans. The hypothesis is that 'The common used feed portions in hobby breeding programmes don't correspond to true need of nutrition established according to the horses actual sport performance'. The horse is a non-ruminant herbivore, whose digestion of fiber is based on its fermentation in the colon. Therefore there are certain limitations and requirements for the feeding technology and the composition of the feed for individual horses. The transfer of the matter through the digestive tract and absorption of nutrition in each part of the digestive tract. The next part of the thesis concentrates on metabolism during physical work, adaptability to training and physiology of training. There is a part focused on utilization of energy from feed, where the difference between an anaerobic and aerobic metabolism is described. To accept or decline the hypothesis, three horses with different equestrian use were chosen. The first was a Welsh Part Bred (WPB) pony mare competing in pony show jumping at L level. The second was a Czech warmblood (ČT) mare competing in both show jumping and dressage at L level. The last was a WPB pony mare used for hobby riding. For all three horses, the nutrition values of feed rations was calculated for the reporting period. These were compared with the true requirements of each horse according to their physical work. It was established that the selected horses were not fed according to their actual sports performance. Therefore the hypothesis was confirmed. The found data was transferred into a graph form for ease of evaluation. Where there was a higher fluctuation in the value of the feed portions, it was pointed out the danger to horses with long term feeding of unsuitable feed portions. The master's thesis shows to the owner of horses used in hobby breeding with the need to build the feed portions according to real physical work of their horses. The use of wrong feed portions and feed technology can cause health problems with long term effects.

Abstract:
Nine ponies were randomly allocated to one of three groups (A, B, C). Gradually, these groups of ponies were experimentally infected with third stage cyathostome larvae. Each pony was infected with 30,000 infective cyathostome larvae stored 4 weeks under the natural environmental conditions of the Czech Republic. These animals were examined post--mortem for small strongyle infections from October 2011 to January 2012. Seventeen species of the following Cyathostominae genera were identified: Coronocyclus, Cyathostomum,Cylicocyclus, Cylicostephanus, Gyalocephalus and Petrovinema. Of the 17 species of Cyathostominae recovered, Cyathostomum catinatum, Cyathostomum alveatum and Cylicocyclus nassatus were the most prevalent (100 %). From the entire population of Cyathostominae, 65,6 % were located in the caecum and only 34,4 % in the colon. Only 1,736 (24,6 %) females and 5,329 (75,4 %) males were observed. In the first and second phase (group A, B) of the experiment, 98.57 % and 95.48 % of adult nematodes were found, respectively. However, only 29,07% of adults were found in the third phase (group C) of experiment, and the proportion of arrested larvae (EL3) was 67.73%. All ponies were treated orally with ivermectin at a dosage of 400 ug /kg. However, adult Oxyuris equi were present in six horses. This is the first European study to demonstrate anthelmintic resistence in Oxyuris equi to macrocyclic lactones.

TITLE: Natural communication with the horse and the possibilities of human - horse interaction AUTHOR: Bc. Lenka Volfová DEPARTMENT: Department of Biology and Enviromnental Studies (Katedra biologie a enviromnentálních studií) SUPERVISOR: PhDr. Kateřina Jančaříková, Ph.D. ABSTRACT: This thesis explores interspecies communication and, specifically, natural communication between the man and the horse. Through comparative research based on a programme developed by Ing. Josef Liška (Liška Solutions) for the assessment of the participant's personality, employing several exercises with a horse from the ground, the thesis aims at introducing ways in which horses can be used for the purposes of personal growth. For the purposes of this thesis, volunteers from three groups were assessed under this programme using the method of direct observation: teachers, business executives and people who work with animals. The assessment was carried out by marking down points and comments. On the basis of the results obtained, the above three groups were subsequently compared among one another. The research shows that teachers excelled in six out of seven observed personal competencies while, compared to business executives, there is still space for improvement in terms of their energy. The results shown in relation to the...

Abstract:
The horse is a large odd-toed ungulate mammal, one of modern species of the genus Equus. Horses have long been among the most economically important domesticated animals and although their importance has declined with mechanization, they are still spread worldwide. The horse is a prominent being in religion, mythology and art; it has played an important role in transportation, agriculture and war and it has served as a source of food, fuel, and clothing, too. Most horse breeds are able to perform various kinds of work such as carrying humans on their backs or can be harnessed to pull objects such as carts or plows. Moreover, there are some horse breeds specially trained for certain tasks - lighter species of horses for racing or riding, heavier species for farming and other tasks requiring pulling power. Some horses, such as ponnies, can be kept as pets. In some societies, horses are still a source of food, both meat and milk; in others it is taboo to consume them. In industrialized countries horses are predominantly kept for leisure and sport, whereas in other parts of the world they are still used as working animals. Both horses and humans have coexisted together for thousand years wherefrom an extensive specialized vocabulary has arisen to describe each horse behavioral and anatomical characteristic with...

The aim of this thesis is the literary review elaboration regarding the bone skeleton in horses and fractures regarding specific bones. Intraarticular bone fractures were excluded from the literary review because of their high variance, which is beyond scope of this thesis. Next aim of this thesis was to inspect the fracture occurrence, progress and treatment using the statistical analysis. There are 294 English thoroughbreds in total from two countries in five year period included in the analysis. Totally 125 fractures in USA and 169 fractures in Great Britain occurred during the monitored period. The front limb was injured by fracture significantly more often. Regarding the race tracks the difference between dirt and "all-weather" surface was reported where fractures occurred more commonly on the dirt. Regrettably the euthanasia is the most prevalent method of fracture treatment in horses nevertheless it is possible to consider the conservative or surgical solution.

Abstract:
This diploma work deals with what influence the colour (red, yellow, green and blue) of an obstacle has on the jumping performance of horses. Eleven horses of different ages and breeds which are used for both recreational as well as sport riding purposes participated in the trial. The success of the horses at jumping over obstacles of variours colours was evaluated in relation to other selected variables, namely gender, age, height of the jump, and the type of riding surface. The horses were most successful at jumping yellow (96.4%) and red (95.2%) obstacles, whilst being less successful over green (85.7%) and blue (83.3%) ones. A successful jump included those where the front or hind hoof touched the obstacle without actually knocking the obstacle down. The values for touching the obstacle with the front or hind hoof were approximately the same for the red (7.1%) and green (9.5%) obstacles. With the yellow obstacles, there was a higher percentage of touching with the front hoof (11.9%) than the hind hoof (4.7%). With the blue obstacles, there was also a higher percentage of touching with the front hoof (10.7%) than the hind hoof (9.5%), although the difference was not as marked as with the yellow obstacles. The influence of the other selected variables on the jumping performance of the horses over the different coloured obstacles was diverse. The values of the correlation coefficients for gender and the type of riding surface did not prove there was a statistically significant influence of the horse´s success. In contrast, statistically significant relationships were proven for the height of a jump which was green, with a correlation coefficient rxy = -0.236+ (i.e. the higher the green jump the less successful the jumps), or yellow, with a correlation coefficient rxy = -0.377+++ (i.e. the older the horse the less successful the jumps).

Abstract:
The objective of the thesis was to evaluate the effect of foreign sports breeds of horses in the breeding of warm-blooded horses upgraded for jumping performance in the Czech Republic. The source for creating a database were data from show jumping competitions obtained from the Přehledu sportovních koní ČR (Survey of sports horses of the Czech Republic) 2000 -- 2009. The sports performance of the horses is expressed as PPB (average auxiliary points). The data were processed statistically using the GLM linear model in the UNISTAT 5.1 statistical programme. If the effect was statistically significant we used Scheffe's method of comparison to compare the multiple differences in the values. On the basis of statistical evaluations of groups of breeds representing the individuals born in the Czech Republic we discovered that the pedigree group AUTWB4 achieved the highest PPB value (4.52), i.e. 50% blood of the Austrian warm-blooded horse. The most numerous pedigree group in the entire population of the monitored sports horses based on the number of PPB points (14.36%) was the group where no dominant breed prevailed in the pedigree. The most frequently used foreign breed in breeding horses for show jumping performance is the Holstein warm-blooded horse. In evaluations of the performance of horses based on the country of their birth the highest PPB values (4.25) were achieved by individuals born abroad. In terms of the effect of the year of their start the highest PPB value (3.37) was achieved by horses starting in 2009 when also most of the PPB values (10.72%) were recorded. Evaluations of the differences between the sexes showed that stallions achieved the highest PPB values (3.84) and that the most numerous group were mares (47.20%). In terms of the differences in the ages of the horses the highest PPB value (3.43) was achieved in the group of 9-year-old horses and the most numerous group in show jumping competitions based on the number of PPB's (14.91 %) were 6-year-old horses.

Abstract:
The aim of the study was to determinate digestibility of nutrients from diets for horses. The experiment was conducted on 9 Czech Warmblood horse breed on University school farm at Žabčice. For selected horses we found weight, age and workload. Horses were divided into 3 groups and in three balance periods were have gradually fed them the same amount of feed mixtures and meadow hay. Altogether an attempt fed 3 compound feed (mixtures), in which we analyzed components that were used in the experiment. Feed mixtures consisting from barley, oats, flaxseed meal, bean, dried whey, soybean meal, mineral premix and meadow hay. Diets mutually differed amounts of soybean meal. The experiment was arranged factor - so that no group of horses did not receive the same mixtures of 2x. The results were found to amount spent nutrients and calculated their digestibility. Digestibility of dry matter was 74.07 %+-4,45, crude fat 30.95 %+-23,62, energy 74.57 %+-3,89, nitrogen-free substances 79.79 %+-4,12, crude ash 66.31 %+-14,89, crude protein 80.17 %+-4,59 and crude fiber 69.91 %+-6,64. Digestibility of calcium, we estimated at 75.08 %+-8,35 and phosphorus 51.65 %+-15,93. Due fed mixture resulting difference in digestibility of crude protein at 1.02 % and the group fed mixtures, soybean meal and the group fed mixtures with the highest content of soybean meal (S10). The digestibility coefficients are most affected by the individual characteristics of horses and will need to make further balance for us to objectively determine the digestibility of crude protein in rations.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis is to evaluate body proportions horses in individuals with licenses for jumping competitions in the context of their own performance. This work included the horses, which showed a jump performance in races registered under the auspices of the Czech Equestrian Federation in 2012 and 2013. The database for statistical evaluation was manual entry of data after measurement of the monitored variables and taking pictures. From the obtained photographs were measured angles in a computer program. The first theoretical part focuses on the history of breeding, list of commonly used breeds of sport horses, jumping obstacles and insight into the rules jumping competitions. As the theoretical part is devoted to the anatomy of the horse's body. In the practical part are statistically evaluated the effects of each effect using the general linear model. In case that the influence proved was subsequently assessed by a multiple comparison by Scheffe. Of the 10 observed proportions was statistically highly significant 1 and 5 statistically significant. The gender analysis showed that the highest values achieved stallions whose average performance was 137,08 cm. From this we can conclude that this is the highest-performing sex. Gender analysis showed that the longest blade occurs in a group called " Other sporting breeds ". Conversely, the shortest length was measured in the Czech warmblood. As another method of Pearson's correlation was used to measure the strength of the linear relationship between two variables. This method confirmed the correlation between the observed seven dimensions.

Abstract:
The aim of this diploma work was to specify the requirements for the front limb of a horse suitable for dressage competitions. The observed factors were individual parts of the front legs. Specifically, it was the shoulder angle, shoulder length, humerus length, shoulder joint angle, forearm length, carpal bones lenght, pastern lenght, horse height centimeters, and dimension from the shoulder joint to the hip. In total, 103 horses of eight different breeds used in dressage competitions were measured. The forearms of the horses were rated at performance levels L (58 horse), S (24 horses) and ST (21 horses). All measured horses did participate in dressage competitions in the past two years (2016 and 2017). From the dressage protocols belonging to the dressage racers, there were overall signs of walking, extended trot, extended canter, half-pass step and walk. For objective assessment, measurements were evaluated by Statistica program and by one-factor anova, Turkey's HSD test and Spearman correlations. The results of this work show that the most important dimension was the shoulder angle (ST 48 °). Furthermore, the horse height, where it turned out that the higher the horse (the ST 180 cm), the higher the performance and the better marks in dressage competitions. The length of the shoulder bone (about 44 cm) affects the marks for trot, canter and walk, but it does not affect whole performance too much. The pastern length (ST performance 18 cm) affects the grades behind the walk and the canter. On average, the shoulder length is about 61 cm, the size between the shoulder joint and the hip of the horse is 122 cm, the length of the forearm 46 47 cm, the length of the carpal bones 31 cm and the angle of the shoulder joint 99 °. Furthermore, the work shows that the higher the horse's performance, the less the dimensions were different, and thus the front legs were more similar. And the biggest differences are between performance horses L and ST or L and S, while the performance class horses at S and ST level are not so striking.

Abstract:
Cold-blooded horses find their use at present mainly in tensile work in forest stands. Motion mechanics plays the key role in estimating their potential for performing this activity. Subsequently, it is used in their selection and reproduction. In the process, applied load the horse is working with significantly influences the characteristics of a movement. Therefore, for horses doing tensile work, an objective assessment of their movement mechanics is important, not only during demonstration but also under a changing load. The aim of this study was to prepare and evaluate an experiment for assessing the quantitative characteristics of motion mechanics (step length, action height and running speed) of a cold-blooded horse with no load and with a load of different weight using videographic kinematic analysis. The data obtained were statistically processed to assess changes in step length, action height and running speed depending on the changing load. The results of our experiment showed that the step length decreases with increasing weight of the load. From an average value of 1.94 m at run without a load, it drops to an average value of 1.02 m at a maximum monitored load of 500 kg. A high dependence (r=-0.93) of the step length reduction on the tensile load was found. The dependence is strongly evincible (p<0.001). Changes in action height with increasing load weight are different for the forelimb and rear limb. The forelimb has an almost constant value (~ 0.08m) and no dependence (p=0.977) on the changing weight of the load has been demonstrated. The rear limb shows a strong correlation (p<0.001) to the increasing weight of the load. The correlation coefficient r=0.52 indicates only a slight dependence. This difference can be explained by different function and construction of the limb. The running speed derived from the horizontal marker from the tracking mark on the back is uniform in all observed cases and decreases from 1.95 m.s-1 to 1.19 m.s-1 with increasing weight of the load. The dependence is strongly evincible (p<0.001) and the correlation coefficient of r=-0.94 indicates a strong dependence. The results obtained from the horizontal head velocity component are very well matched to the spine results. The results provided by this method can be an invaluable tool in objective detection of utility and breeding potential of cold-blooded horse in tensile work. Based on these findings, we can recommend further development of videographic kinematic analysis application to objectify the evaluation of quantitative characteristics of motion mechanics for zootechnical and breeding practice.

Abstract:
Diploma thesis is concentrated on analysis of selected factors affecting gestation length in mares of warmblood breed Old Kladruber horse. Gestation length was significantly affected by the month of conception, the month of foaling and the year of conception. The age of mares in the time of conception or foaling did not influence gestation length. Even the sex of foals or alive and dead foals did not significantly affect gestation length. In conclusion, gestation length in mares is affected by a large number of factors and not all of those have been discovered yet. The knowledge of these factors is very important for the most accurate determination of parturition date.

Abstract:
The aim of this thesis was an analysis of documented ancestors and determination of the proportion of Arabian genes from Haflinger pedigrees. The underlying database consisted of 1094 Haflingers. Thereof 679 horses that began breeding (38 stallions and 641 mares), the rest 415 horses (251 mares and 164 stallions) are young horses under 6 years of age who have not begun breeding yet. Tables and graphs were formed from the results and different groups of horses (stallions, mares, young horses) were analyzed. The statistical program UNISTAT version 6.0 was used for statistical processing of results. Linear regression was used, the year of birth and the year when a horse began breeding were the dependent values; the number of ancestors and %OX were the variable value. It was eveluated whether the year of birth or the year when horses begin breeding have an effect of increasing or decreasing the number of documented ancestors and %OX. According to statistical analysis its apparent that the year of birth and the year when horses begin breeding have a highly significant effect (P < 0,05) on the number of documented ancestors. The results for the year of birth show that the coefficient of ancestors increases every year in the group of mares by 1,75 ancestor, in the group of stallions by 1,38 and in the froup of young horses by 1,96. From the breeding point of view the year when a horse begins breeding is more important for us, here it was found out that the number of documented ancestors increases every year in the breeding population to the sixth generation on average by mares by 1,80 ancestor and by stallions by 2.23 ancestors. Statistical analysis of %OX by mares has no significant effect (P>0,05). However, it is apparent that the %OX decreases within the breeding of mares. Only the year of beginning of the breeding has a significant effect (P<0,05) on %OX by stallions. Coefficient came out in a negative number, which means that every year the proportion of Arabian genes reduces by 0,15%OX. There is a highly significant effect of the year of birth on %OX by young horses; it was found that every year the proportion of Arabian genes reduces on average by 0.22%OX. The results show a breeding work with an effective influence on the breed. OX percentage in the population decreases every year and the number of documented ancestors increases.

Abstract:
The present thesis identifies various methods of training young horses for sports and the influence of these methods on the subsequent performance of horses. A prerequisite for a standard good-to-excellent stable performance is baseline training which the horse undergoes from a very early age. The thesis compares various training methods and the utilisation of a number of aids that influence the subsequent performance of sports horses. The theoretical part describes training from the viewpoint of several authors, highlighting differing opinions about the use of training aids depending on the personal preferences of each of them. The practical part features charts and tables prepared based on a questionnaire. It has not been possible to determine directly whether any training method affects the later performance of horses. The answers, however, clearly show that the performance of each horse is dependent on several factors, the main ones being the way the training is conducted (rather than a specific method), the inborn predisposition for sports, and the general attitude to the animal.

Abstract:
The goal of diploma thesis was evaluating the effect of observed factors, which is breed, age, the type of stabling, feeding, a mount of the work, the way of hooves trimming and interval between hooves trimming, on angles of limbs. The database for statistical evaluating was made by manual inserting of data after measuring, capturing and writting down the information about the horse. Angles of limbs was measured by computer program from photos. In theoretical part of thesis I described anatomy and physiology of the horse's limbs and hooves, mechanics of movement and defects of positions. In practical part I have statistically evaluated influence of observed effects on limbs angles using a general linear model GLM and if a statistical significant influence, the data were evaluated using the multiple comparisons by the Scheffe method. The average values of data were compared with values of ideal.
