Abstract:

Abstract:

Abstract:
Gender discrimination against fathers in custody disputes? Does gender discrimination against men exist in custody disputes and, if so, how do the fathers perceive the treatment from social services? ABSTRACT The objective of the study was to examine whether gender discrimination against fathers exists in custody disputes. The issues and aims used were: (1) To examine whether gender discrimination against fathers exists in custody disputes. (2) If and how fathers perceive a gender discriminating treatment from family law departments. In order to answer the issues a mixed design consisting of a quantitative vignette study and a qualitative analysis of texts was used. The vignette study was directed towards social workers working within family law departments who handle issues regarding custody, residency and access in custody disputes between two guardians. Within the qualitative part, the authors advertised for fathers' personal experiences of a custody dispute. The announcement was made on a forum on the internet, especially aimed at fathers. The results were analysed through a multidimensional perspective. The results of the vignette study showed no evidence of discrimination regarding the respondents risk assessments based on gender. However, the study revealed discrimination against fathers when the respondents were to assess matters regarding custody, residency and access. Here the mother was deemed as the most suitable, despite the fact that the guardians had identical backgrounds. In the qualitative interpretation of texts written by fathers the most prominent was that they were convinced that their gender was a encumbrance in a custody dispute.

Abstract:
This thesis aims to study and compare gender discrimination in terms of son preferences in Kerala and Uttar Pradesh in India. It also aims to explain how son preferences appears in these states. This study uses Judith Butler’s (2007) and Yvonne Hirdman’s (2001) gender theories to explain the gender discrimination in the different states. Research shows that the son preference in India is strongly permeated in many parts of the country. This is mainly due to the deep-rooted patriarchal system that exists in India. The results show that this is particularly prominent in Uttar Pradesh than in Kerala. Previous research and the existing theories show that the strong son preferences that exists in the Indian society results in many women and young girls being discriminated. Through the gender perspective, this can be explained by the social constructions that are created in society. There are social and cultural norms and an unchanging cultural law that has been passed on for generations, where the roles of men and women in society are constructed and implemented. The social press on women, from both society and families to give birth to sons, leads to many devastating consequences and adversities for both women and young girls.

Svensson, Erika, and Mia Karlsson. "Ojämställdhet i revisionsbranschen : Existerar könsdiskriminering i revisionsprofessionen?"

Abstract:
Background: Previous research shows that the audit profession is dominated by men and unequally in sexes exists in the higher positons in the Swedish audit firms (Jonnergård et. al., 2010). The unequally does not depend on that women don’t entry the profession because equally in sexes exists in the entry to the profession (Månsson et. al., 2013). It has shown that women decide to quit the profession and it´s not because they lack of professional skills (Collin et. al., 2007; Lennartsson, 2014a). The male sex is the ideal in the audit profession (Stafsudd, 2011), can the reason of lack of women in the profession depend on that the male sex is promoted in the profession and sex discrimination towards women is the reason to why women leaves the audit profession or why not women reaches the higher positions in the hierarchy? Purpose: The purpose of the thesis is to explore and explain were, and if why, in the hierarchy sex discrimination takes expression in the audit profession. Method: A deductive research approach is the underlying approach in this thesis with a quantitative method. Different existing theories, which measures and explains sex discrimination, have been identified and the theories have been tested on empirical material conducted from members in the audit profession in Sweden. Conclusions: The result indicates that sex discrimination exists in the Swedish audit profession and arises already in the positon where auditors usually entry the audit profession. The study finds the organizational structures gender culture is the reason to why the sex discrimination arises in the audit profession.

Abstract:
The intention of this thesis is to gain a greater understanding, to how communicators who has been convicted for gender discrimination by The Swedish Advertising Ombudsman, view their own creative process and their ethical responsibility in society. With their answers we hope to be able to approach a greater understanding of why sexism in the advertising industry still occurs. To approach the question we have conducted qualitative semi-structured research interviews with communicators involved in the creative process of advertisements that have been convicted by the Swedish self-regulatory organization, The Swedish Advertising Ombudsman for gender discrimination. Our question is focusing on their creative process for the current ad, personal values and responsibility and how the conviction has affected them and their future processes. In the result we found out that external factors such as time, money and the client had a major role in the process but also in their general work. Most of the respondents answer to only themselves when they make moral judgements and they generally have a misplaced view of the definition of gender discrimination, or sexism. All respondents agree that communicators, including themselves, have an impact on our society but they do not consider their own work to be a part of reproducing values and stereotypes. Almost all respondents express a strong distrust for The Swedish Advertising Ombudsman where most of them do not agree with their decision. The convictions haven’t lead to any major consequences, although, most of the respondents claimed that they will spend more time reflecting about their ads before publishing it. Some of the respondents also said that they are going to ask the client twice if they really want to publish this work, even though it’s a risk that it might be convicted for gender discrimination. Many of these factors shows that the conviction has not led to any major consequences.

Abstract:
The main purpose of this essay is to study the Swedish labor law concerning employees who are, aspire to be, or are expected to become parents, both men and women. Thereby accomplishing a gender perspective on the issue at hand. The study also take in to account the laws issued by the European Union, and their impact on the Swedish law system, so as to gain an international perspective. The laws regarding parental leave, both Swedish and European, involve protection for workers from being treated in a less favorable way than someone in a comparable situation, as employers are forbidden to disfavor any employee or job-seeker in basically all situations in the work place or in a recruiting context, if the disfavor is in any way related to the parental leave. The only situation where an employer is allowed to disfavor an employee regarding his or her parental leave, is if the disfavoring is a necessary consequent of the employee’s absence. However, this exception is heavily restricted and is not to be abused.   The laws concerning parental leave go hand in hand with the laws about equality and protection from discrimination. As pregnancy is tied to women alone, an employer’s choice not to hire a woman based on his or hers disinclination to cope with changes in the labor due to a woman’s right to parental leave, is in itself direct discrimination based on gender. This form of discrimination is prohibited by both Swedish and European law. The reasons for an employer, not to hire someone who is expected to invoke their right to parental leave, can often be traced to the economic consequences for the employer, however this is not an acceptable excuse, according to European law.
