Abstract:
This study examines the colors of identical scenes from five remakes and the five original Korean-Japanese drama, by mixing the country of the origin. In doing so, this study analyzes colors difference of TV drama by production countries. The comparison between the originals and the remakes is conditioning the storyline, genre and plot. Thus, the detailed color difference between Korean and Japanese dramas lies in the production style for cultural contents, instead of contents differences. According to the study's findings, colors with similar hues were favoured in both Korea and Japan, however the Japanese preference tended to be stronger. The chromaticity and brightness color combinations are contrasted between Korea and Japan. In cotrast to Korea, the contrast color combination of chroma and the similar color combination of brightness were more frequent in Japanese drams, which is the opposite to Korean dramas that the contrast combination is more prevalent in brightness measure and similar color combination in chroma measure. The study has demonstrated the need for more research into the appealing power of Korean dramas by comparing color combinations between countries.

Abstract:
The existence of public stigma against people with disabilities encourages writers to show disability issues in a literary work, namely drama. The Korean drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' is one of the South Korean dramas that raises the issue of people with disabilities, autism spectrum disorder, through drama. By using Roland Barthes' semiotic analysis, researchers want to know and describe how the representation of autism spectrum disorder characters is displayed in the Korean drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo'. The theoretical foundations in this research are mass communication, drama, representation, autism spectrum disorder characters, and semiotics. This research is descriptive with a qualitative research approach. The results showed that the Korean drama 'Extraordinary Attorney Woo' is a form of mass communication that provides information by representing the life of a person with an autism spectrum disorder in South Korea. This is shown by the common stereotypes imposed on people with autism spectrum disorder and the lack of tolerance of society. In addition, there are difficulties in communicating, adapting, and interacting with people with autism spectrum disorder. The drama also shows the stigma and discrimination experienced by people with autism spectrum disorder in South Korea.

Abstract:
This paper deals with the definition and characteristics of poetic drama, and attempts to clarify the significance of poetic drama works during the time when the poetic drama movement took place. Unlike drama-poetry or plays, poetic drama is an independent art genre. It presents artistic vision through the conflict of poetics and dramas. The unity of poetic and dramatic things, which is facilitated through music, internal necessity, stage image, sound effect, and visual auditory indication, poetic drama is a part of complex art. The entire work functions as a poem and must be realized on the stage. For Choi Il-soo, in order to develop the characteristics of these poetry plays, the innatrhythm of the free verse should be embodied within these plays. He accepted Eliot’s theory and tried to establish the position that Western poetic drama works and theories are unique to Korea. This deepening perception of theory led to a poetic drama movement with the creators. In this paper, we classify its characteristics by focusing on approximately 18 poetic drama works. From 1920 to 1999, 18 representative works were classified, focusing on the completeness of the works and the remarkable artists. The characteristics of works can largely be divided into historical, narrative, reality, and philosophy. The meaning of this classification can serve as an opportunity for poetic dramas to advance into more diverse topics or forms. The poetic drama movement was dominated by critics and poets with the aim of pursuing independent Korean art works, and although it failed in performance and popularization, it was an achievement of the times to give a glimpse into the possibility of poetic drama. Poetic drama can act as a new element in the genre of poetry and drama that are losing original literary character, and there is a need to revive in Korean literature.

Abstract:
The prolonged war between South Korea and North Korea has stigmatised the North Korean community or defectors. It is not uncommon for North Korean defectors who are in South Korea to receive different treatment from local residents. This is also depicted in several Korean drama series, one of which is the sixth episode of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. This research examines the signs contained in several scenes that represent the stigmatisation of North Korean society. This research uses a qualitative approach with discourse analysis as the data collection method. The subject of this research is the sixth episode of Extraordinary Attorney Woo. The representation of stigmatisation of South Korean society towards North Korea as the object is studied with Charles Sander Pierce's semiotics. The results show that the drama series Extraordinary Attorney Woo has signs that can be interpreted into a message associated with mass communication theory with the function of entertainment and cultural transformation. The interpretant in this drama is the stigmatisation of North Korean defectors depicted in several scenes. In addition to interpreting stigmatisation, there is also a deconstruction of meaning illustrated by the defence given by the main character.

Abstract:
The Journal of Korean Drama and Theatre published by the Learned Society of Korean Drama and Theatre is the most representative journal for research on Korean television dramas as a kind of drama act. The number of theses that have been gathered by a total of 75 journal series is as many as 615, which have been issued until 2020, since 1991 when it was launched. Of them, the theses on television dramas began to be initially published by the 21th series issued in 2005, and then 76 theses investigated by 35 researchers are currently published. The scenes beyond/post sheet, which appear in television dramas as image literature, become main texts, due to the genre characteristics. Lines and scenes in screens are naturally mobilized for any quotations. The current research on television dramas, however, do not give any academic guidelines regarding the quotation of lines and scenes. This paper, therefore, attempts to provide a direction of examining the current conditions of the lines and scenes quoted by research on television dramas based on 76 theses gathered in The Journal of Korean Drama and Theatre and helping both the society and the journal improve them. The measure may be largely specified as five proposals. The key point of them lies in the essence of the quotation properly certified by research, in other words, the practice of it, which make it possible to realize scholarly conversations with academic value.

This paper, which is a narrative analysis, seeks to explore why Korean drama as a form of hallyu cultural product is favoured by the Indonesian people by using the cultural proximity theory from Joseph Straubhaar. According to this theory the audience will prefer products of their own culture or the same as their culture. This research approach is a qualitative research with narrative analysis method. Audiences will prefer the same production because of elements such as star appeal, local knowledge, topics, issues, the environment, and the ethnicity of people in the media. The author discusses five cultural similarities between the two countries, namely the same history, family relationships based on extended family, language and social norms, family lineage and culinary. The results showed that the historical similarities between Korea and Indonesia which had been colonized by Japan, extended family forms in Indonesian and Korean families, respect for parents and manners of behaviour between Indonesians and Koreans and the same food, namely making rice and side dishes as staple foods made Korean dramas liked by the Indonesian people.

One of the stories that are often made into a story in Korean drama series is about the construction of a woman's beauty, one of which is raised in the Korean series True Beauty. The Korean series True Beauty is a series that tells about the life of a woman who does not have an attractive appearance, so she covers her appearance with facial expressions to live her daily life. This study wants to know the dramaturgy of the Korean series True Beauty. The researcher uses Goffman's dramaturgy theory, which consists of several concepts: self-presentation, the front stage area, the middle stage area, and the backstage area. This study uses a descriptive qualitative research approach with case study research methods. The research data were obtained by observation and documentation of the 16 episodes of the Kore True Beauty series, as well as a literature study. The results showed dramaturgy in the Korean series True Beauty, namely when in the front stage area, Jukyung's character will play his role by using makeup. While in the center stage area, Jukyung's character will prepare himself by applying makeup. Meanwhile, when he was backstage, Jukyung's character was himself without wearing any makeup. Salah satu industri budaya populer Korea atau yang dikenal dengan istilah Korean Wave adalah drama seri Korea. Abstract:
With a rating of 23.78%, the Korean drama "SKY Castle" had the highest rating amongst Korean dramas. Authoritarian parenting is discussed in this South Korean drama. 87% of students believe that they are in the wrong major, which expressed how this not only happened in South Korea but also in Indonesia. Authoritarian parents pressured them to join specific majors. This is a result of the stereotypes of majors in which parents hope will ensure students' success and financial stability. This authoritarian parenting style harms children’s mental health. The post-positivist perspective and the case study approach are both used in this descriptive qualitative study. In-depth interview data collecting and recording techniques, data validity techniques including construction validity, and pattern matching data analysis techniques are all used in this study. According to the study's findings, the audience's parents have preconceived notions about particular universities and majors, which have an effect on their children's mental health and relationships with their parents. It may be stated that viewers who were educated by authoritarian parents are in a negotiated position since each viewer has a unique viewpoint on authoritarian parenting in the Korean drama "SKY Castle" based on their own cultural background and experiences.

Abstract:
The present study investigated incidental grammar learning through movies, specifically for Korean drama viewers. As they get exposed to the Korean language through the dramas/variety shows that they frequently watch, the possibility of them being aware of how Korean language, or Hangul, works seems to be potentially high. The present study applied a mixed-method approach through an open-ended survey which consists of 13 items. Nine items were closed-ended questions while four items were open-ended questions. This study uses a convenience sampling to gather the respondents. The survey was distributed for a week and responded by 36 respondents. The results of the current study show that the majority of the respondents never received formal lessons of Hangul and got exposed to Hangul only through Korean dramas and variety shows. In addition, the respondents show a sort of awareness toward some Hangul morphological forms like plural markers, closeness markers, and a syntactical aspect. The findings show that through Korean drama watching, the Korean drama viewers seem to notice the language pattern of Hangul. The findings suggest that using movies as a learning platform seems to have a positive impact on language learning.

Abstract:
Korean dramas are increasingly in demand in Indonesia. Its themes related to gender and sexuality are now in great demand, because the issue of gender inequality is increasingly being voiced in South Korea and Indonesia. One of the most talked about dramas in Indonesia when broadcasted was Mr. Queen by TVN (South Korean cable TV channel) in 2020. The drama consists of twenty episodes and can be watched by global fans through video on demand platform Viu, on smartphone and pc. There is even a version that has been dubbed in Indonesian, showing that the drama is very popular within the Indonesian audience. Mr. Queen is a Saeguk (drama set in the Joseon era) and is a remake of the popular Chinese web drama Go Princess Go (2015), which is an adaptation of the novel of the same title. Mr. Queen–like Go Princess Go–can be categorized in the genre of fusion and gender bender, because it tells the story of a male chef named Jang Bong Hwan from the Modern era whose soul crosses space and time until he entered the body of the Queen in the Joseon period (Queen Cheorin), presenting a new depiction of the queen; instead of the traditional feminine queen, Queen Cheorin portrays a masculine woman. Mr. Queen overturns gender and its relation to gender discourse in South Korea. However, using Sara Mills' critical discourse analysis, it is evident that the gender representation in Mr. Queen is paradoxical; as if offering a gender discourse that breaks the dominant discourse, but in fact it still represents woman as passive subject who continues to be exploited.

Hallyu influences global civilization with various mass media products, including a Korean drama series with the theme of romance. The romance promoted in this Korean drama cannot be separated from what Jean Baudrillard calls Simulacra (false reality), which will later become a hyperreality when the pseudo-reality is believed to be more accurate than reality itself. The Korean drama series 'A Business Proposal' is an example of a drama that presents a form of utopian romance (pseudo-romantic). The concept of romanticism is built to give rise to a new concept of romanticism that is very different from the reality of romanticism. Abstract: In the last decade, South Korean webtoons have joined television dramas (K-dramas) and K-pop as an important element of the Korean Wave abroad. Domestically, the South Korean public can idly browse or religiously follow thousands of free or subscription webtoons on their smartphones. Webtoon artists may dream of achieving broader success by having their works adapted transmedially, as a web drama (online TV drama) or even better, as a network, cable or Netflix series that achieves mainstream success. Two significant subgenres of webtoons are "lifestyle webtoons" (saenghwarwept'un) and "family webtoons" (kajogwept'un) and these two subgenres are combined in what I am calling "childcare webtoons" (yugawept'un). While South Korea also follows global media trends of "mom blogs" and Instagram microcelebrities or Youtubers sharing their parenting journeys ("sharenting"), "childcare webtoons" are a particularly rich space for observing changing mothering ideologies and parenting norms. This article examines "mom humor" and other stories mothers tell across the South Korean Internet, paying particular attention to what kinds of emotional expression are sanctioned and what is taboo. I analyze webtoons such as "I'm a Mom (Nanŭn ŏmmada)" and "The Birth of a Married Woman(Yubunyŏŭi t'ansaeng)," suggesting that even as the tedium of everyday motherhood is increasingly critiqued through media, the still somewhat rigid gender roles and maternal expectations in South Korea translate into an overall more muted and subtle "mom humor" alongside the still more socially expected stories of maternal gratitude and fulfillment.

Even though many African and Asian countries share a common history of European colonialism and thus a model of economic development shaped within the aegis of center-periphery analysis, many Asian countries have been able to ride through the burden of center-periphery economics and built more successful political economies than most African countries. This state of affairs has often led many African analysts to point to Asian success stories like China and South Korea for comparative analysis and often see these Asian countries as models of socio-economic and socio-cultural success to emulate. In particular, Africans in the Diaspora, especially Africans in China, tend to compare very frequently the socio-economic and socio-cultural conditions of their host countries with those of their source countries. This paper outlines and discusses how a group of Africans living in Hong Kong and other parts of Asia see Korea and Korean culture through the prism of Korean television dramas, which constitute a popular cultural phenomenon among Hong Kong/Asian youths. Through qualitative and quantitative survey methods, participant-observation, and questionnaire surveys, the paper reports on how African community members of Hong Kong and others think of Koreans. We show that Africans draw a lot of comparisons between Korean and African ways of conceptualizing the world.
