Abstract:
In the 20th century and at the beginning of the 21st century, Kosovan society faced numerous social, economic, and political problems. These problems became the main cause of the high rate of migration. Many citizens, especially young people, were forced to migrate to European countries and beyond in the absence of prospects in Kosovo. Unemployed and employed people migrated in search of a better life. Migration from Kosovo continues to be high to this day. Countries like Germany began issuing work visas to Kosovans after 2005, leading many young people to migrate to Germany. To understand the situation of Kosovan migrants before and after migration, the study (N = 350) aimed to investigate the situation of unemployment, employment, and satisfaction with pre - and post-migration earnings. The results show that around 75% of Kosovan migrants were unemployed before migrating and about 50% of those who were employed had low monthly incomes (up to 200 euros), while in the host society this situation has changed positively. The results indicate that, after the migration to the host society, about 85 % of Kosovan migrants are employed, over 50% have high incomes (around 2000 euros), and about one-third have changed their post-migration occupation.

Abstract:
The purpose of this research is to examine standing height in both Kosovan genders as well as its association with foot length, as an alternative to estimating standing height. A total of 1623 individuals (830 male and 793 female) participated in this research. The anthropometric measurements were taken according to the protocol of ISAK. The relationships between body height and foot length were determined using simple correlation coefficients at a ninety-five percent confidence interval. A comparison of means of standing height and foot length between genders was performed using a t-test. Then a linear regression analysis was carried out to examine extent to which foot length can reliably predict standing height. Results displayed that Kosovan male are 179.52±5.96cm tall and have a foot length of 26.22±1.19cm, while Kosovan female are 165.72±4.93cm tall and have a foot length of 23.52±1.01cm. The results have shown that both genders made Kosovans a tall nation but not even close to be in top tallest nations. Moreover, the foot length reliably predicts standing height in both genders; but, not reliably enough as arm span.

"Impact of Using Population-Specific Cut-Points, Self-Reported Health, and Socio-Economic Parameters to Predict Sarcopenia: A Cross-Sectional Study in Community-Dwelling Kosovans Aged 60 Years and Older." Abstract:
The age-related decline of muscle strength, mass, and physical performance (sarcopenia) has been raising concerns among the scientific and healthcare communities. This decline may differ between populations, age groups, and sexes. Therefore, we aimed to explore sarcopenia together with the impact of health and socio-economic parameters in mature Kosovans. A cross-sectional study was conducted on community-dwelling adults aged ≥60 years (n = 240, 47.1% female) from the Prishtina region. Sarcopenia was identified using the following criteria: (i) the European Working Group in Sarcopenia for Older People (EWGSOP1), (ii) the revised EWGSOP2 algorithms, and (iii) sex-specific cut-points derived from the Kosovan population. In males, pre-sarcopenia/probable sarcopenia was detected from the EWGSOP1, EWGSOP2 and Kosovan-specific criteria at values of 3.1%, 5.5%, and 28.3%; sarcopenia was detected at 1.6%, 5.5%, and 0.0%, and severe sarcopenia was detected at 4.7%, 2.4%, and 4.7%, respectively. Pre-sarcopenia was lower in females (0.9%, 5.3%, 16.8%), with no cases of sarcopenia or severe sarcopenia detected by either algorithm. Sarcopenic males were older, had a lower weight, BMI, skeletal muscle mass, performance score, nutritional status (p < 0.001), educational level (p = 0.035), and higher malnourishment risk (p = 0.005). It is notable that high overweight and obesity levels were also detected (93.8% of females, 77.1% of males). This study highlights the importance of using population-specific cut-points when diagnosing sarcopenia, as otherwise its occurrence may be underestimated, especially in obese persons. Age, body composition, physical performance, health, and socio-economic conditions can influence the occurrence of sarcopenia.

Abstract:
Abstract:The unilateral declaration of independence by Kosovar authorities in Pristina in 2008 has been the source of various controversies in international affairs. From a legal perspective, Kosovo’s secessionist drive is contrary to the well-established position of international law regarding the territorial integrity of states. From a political perspective, Kosovo’s case exemplifies the political drive to alter the law – a drive that applies to other entities in Kosovo’s position. Both these phenomena are accompanied by the divergent interests held by Kosovars as the ‘local agency’ and by the interests of Serbia and third states (including great powers) that support or oppose Kosovo’s independence. The interdisciplinary nature of this matter is enhanced by the intersection of applicable legal frameworks with competing political interests. The motivating factors – and implications of – great power conduct in this context should be examined through the prism of political realism, which provides an enhanced perspective on the relationship between legal and political factors in all their complexity.

Abstract:
Aims.Because no epidemiological study has been conducted of children's mental health problems in Kosova, which experienced a traumatic war in 1998–99, we conducted the first national epidemiological survey of children's mental health ever undertaken in Kosova.Methods.Participants were 1374 Kosovar children ages 6–18 recruited through schools (60% from urban areas). Parent-reported behavioural and emotional problems were assessed using the Child Behaviour Checklist (CBCL/6–18). Kosovar findings were compared with findings from five other Central and Eastern European societies (Poland, Romania, Lithuania, Serbia and Croatia), plus the US.Results.Confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) indicated that the CBCL 8-syndrome model manifested good fit to the Kosovar data. Mean item ratings and Cronbach's alphas were very similar to those of the other six societies. Kosova's mean Total Problems score fell in the middle of the range of the seven societies compared. CBCL scores were higher for adolescents (12–18), urban children, and those whose parents had limited education compared with younger (6–11), rural, and more socially advantaged children.Conclusions.Strong consistency was found between Kosovar findings and those for neighbouring countries with respect to CFA results, mean item ratings, alphas and problem score levels. Results of this epidemiological survey highlight the utility of the CBCL for identifying Kosovar Albanian children with mental health service needs.

Abstract:
In the last decade, many studies have focused their attention on the status of English in different countries, world English(es), and the usage of English. Nevertheless, none of the study was conducted in Kosovar context in the Balkan’s, although the position of English in Kosovo is extremely important. Therefore, this paper aims to review other studies and to shed light on the abovementioned issue by discussing and reflecting on national, historical, social, political, educational, cultural, and economic issues that contribute to the use of English language in everyday Kosovar lives. Taking into consideration historical points of views, the English-speaking counties’ impact in Kosovo’s independence, the high level of penetration of English loanwords, and Kosovars’ aspiration to accept and integrate these loanwords, it can be understood the high regard for English language among Albanian/Kosovar society which has also affected the everyday communication and lexis in different fields which is evident in different group ages, especially young adults. However, educational factors play the most important part in English learning. The institutional support in enhancing pedagogical practices, continuous teacher training programs, provision of desired books, native teacher mobility are considered to be the main factors that contribute to authentic English language acquisition.

Abstract:
The 1980s caught Albanians in Kosova in interesting social, political, and psychological circumstances. Two diametrically opposed dogmatic dilemmas took shape: “illegal groups” – considerably supported by students – demanded the proclamation of the Republic of Kosova and/or Kosova's unification with Albania. On the other side of the spectrum, “modernists” – gathering, among others, the political and academic elites – pushed for the improvement of rights of Kosovars guaranteed under the “brotherhood and unity” concept advocated within the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRY). This paper outlines the nature of demonstrations that took place in March and April 1981 and the corresponding responses of political and academic elites. Stretching beyond symbolic academic reasons – demands for better food and dormitory conditions – the study points to the intense commitment of the students to their demands, often articulated in nationalistic terms. Was it inevitable that the structure of the SFRY would lead to those living in Kosova as a non-Slavic majority in a federation of “Southern Slavs” to articulate demands for national self-rule? It is necessary to highlight these political and social complexities through analytical approaches in order to track the students' goals and to reexamine assumptions behind the “modernist” agenda. In that vein, the paper analyzes the conceptual connections and differences between student reactions and modernists' positions during the historical period under discussion here.

Abstract:
Soft skills are of great importance in one’s education and social interactions. These skills are known to be highly needed and required for employment. Considering the benefits of the acquisition of the soft skills acquisition, the implementation of them in education is a necessity. Due to this, the aim of this research was to investigate where Kosova stands with the implementation of these skills, at the same time which skills are mostly used. Simultaneously aiming to understand Kosovar students’ approaches to these skills. A quantitative questionnaire was used as an instrument for data collection and 115 students from different high schools of different fields of study participated voluntarily in this research. The results of this study show that soft skills are being implemented in Kosova’s education in high schools, however this contradicts with other existing studies conducted in Kosova from different approaches and perspectives. Nevertheless, teamwork results to be implemented the most amongst other soft skills, but it exceeds writings with a close difference of percentage. This paper analyzes and interprets the outcomes of the results, by backing up the arguments with factual sources to answer the two broad questions of the study.

Abstract:
This article analyzes the portrayal of the USA and NATO as Kosovo’s friends in the Kosovan media discourse. The research will use the Critical Discourse Analysis based on the model by Van Dijk to demonstrate the production and continuity of the friendship discourse in the Kosovan media. Two daily media outlets are analyzed: Koha Ditore and Epoka e Re, focusing on the strategies used to construct the image of Kosovo’s friends for the countries that have supported the independence of the new state of Kosovo. The ideological framing of the friendship discourse is pointed out as the dominant topic in these two mainstream newspapers, but on the other hand, the papers emphasize two different perspectives of using the discourse of friendship, which are adjusted to the editorial policies and persuasive goals of the respective papers.

The Unilateral Declaration of Independence by Kosovar authorities in Pristina in 2008 has generated heavy legal and political controversies. The delivery by the International Court of Justice of its advisory opinion on Kosovo unilateral declaration of independence in 2010 has not led to the elimination of unilateralist positions as to Kosovo’s status. Such unilateralist approach, favouring Kosovo’s independence either in principle or in practice, has since been adopted by the local Kosovar authorities, a number of governments and by the European Union. This contribution addresses the merit of such unilateralist positions and examines whether these positions could adversely affect the legal position as to Kosovo’s status under general international law as well as un Security Council resolution 1244 (1999).

Abstract:

One of the world’s youngest constitutions, the Constitution of Kosovo not only summarises the international community’s prescribed obligations towards Kosovo’s polity and establishes the polity per se, but also determines Kosovo’s governing system and prescribes the rights and liberties of Kosovo’s citizens. The constitution also determines the extra rights of ethnic minorities and assigns guarantees for their participation in public life. The constitution, moreover, specifies its relationship with the Ahtisaari Plan and lays out the international civilian representative’s position in Kosovo. To better understand these attributes, this paper shall conduct both a legal review of the Kosovan Constitution and draw some conclusions about the governing system and model of democracy established by the constitution.

Abstract:
Introduction:A collaborative project between Sweden and Kosovo with the aim to develop treatment guidelines for the ambulance services was undertaken. Firstly, relevant guidelines were identified, then translated, and processed to fit with the Kosovan ambulance service system. The next step was to train instructors in becoming proficient in training colleagues to use the guidelines. A train the trainer approach was chosen as it can be seen as grounded in Kolb's experiential learning theory and Crossan et al. organizational learning theory. Those theories describe how individuals learn and how organizations develop.Method:This implementation project supported training of local instructors to become proficient in training colleagues in 13 selected treatment guidelines for the ambulance services using scenario training. Initially, Kosovar instructors received directions from Swedish instructors then they observed the Swedish instructors. After this, they took more responsibility for the training. Seven Swedish instructors instructed eight Kosovar instructors for a week where about 100 Kosovan doctors and nurses were trained in patient assessment and treatment guidelines. The trainees were divided into four parallel groups of 4-5 participants with one Kosovar instructor supported by a Swedish instructor. Results:After the training week, eight instructors from two different ambulance service centers achieved proficiency in training colleagues in using treatment guidelines. Each Kosovar instructor was involved in 30 training occasions. Conclusion:The training resulted in the involved Kosovar ambulance service centers being able to train new colleagues in providing standardized patient assessment and treatment using treatment guidelines. In addition, the trained Kosovar instructors will be able to contribute to the development of new guidelines and revision of established guidelines.Applying a train the trainer approach, theoretically grounded in learning theories, provides a sound basis to achieve systematic change for improving patient safety. Here, the knowledge distribution among practitioners is improved in an inexpensive manner.

The end of the 1998/1999 war with Serbia, found Kosovo with two governments, which, UNIMK replaced conform the 1244 Resolution of the SC. UNMIK’s operation was based in four pillars and 14 departments. The Department of Justice was a department that operated with obstacles as a result of the organized Serbian parallel system in Kosovo’s territory. Which unfortunately transformed into a phenomenon that was allowed silently by UNMIK’s administration. The functioning of such an operation damages the interests of Kosovan citizens, who are trialed twice for the same case. Double sentences of Kosovo’s citizens in Kosovo’s courts and in the parallel Serbian courts that operate in Serbia are causing major problems in the already fragile Kosovan justice system. According to the official data, it results that there are 22 parallel Serbian courts that operate within this parallel system, in North Kosovo and various cities within Serbia. This form of parallel judiciary continues to function even after the Declaration of Independence (2008) and after the arrival of EULEX mission in Kosovo. We think that the functioning of this parallel Serbian system in a territory where it has no sovereignty, as a unique case in Europe, should seize to exist with the sole purpose of empowering and functioning of the juridical and justice system in Kosovo, for the sake of respecting fundamental principles of the human rights and respecting of the ne bis in idem principle.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Modern Kosovo faces many challenges in post-conflict economic recovery and development. The current international and regional agenda significantly complicate the recovery process. It is a combination of both chronic underdevelopment and post-conflict reconstruction. Such a mix produces limited state governance, a vast shadow economy and criminal networks, massive unemployment, and widespread poverty worsened by original Kosovo's problems such as gender disbalance in the labor force, ethnic discrimination, and unsettled rights of local property owners. The article highlights the current results of internal and external efforts to enhance the ability of Kosovo’s authorities to provide economic and physical security for local households and businesses. It focuses on international support through direct financial aid and external investments and argues that this support challenges the political independence and viability of this self-declared polity. Kosovo is still on the list of Europe's poorest and most vulnerable regions. Reforms are proceeding slowly. A large share of state-owned enterprises is unprofitable. The private sector is fragmented, and microenterprises dominate. Kosovo's economy relies heavily on imports and excessively depends on the trade sector. Financial discipline, efficiency, and transparency of the resource’s distribution, optimization of intersectoral interaction, fight against corruption – all these issues are still on the current economic and political agenda, as they were ten years ago, despite Kosovo’s ranking as one of the top twenty most improved economies in the world. Financial dependence becomes a formidable barrier to Kosovo's membership in the European Union.

Abstract:
Abstract Kosovo’s statehood has been contested by foes as well as friends. Much is known about the former and less about the latter. This contribution explores the contestation of Kosovo’s independence by the judges of the European Union Rule of Law Mission in Kosovo (eulex) working on privatization matters before Kosovo courts. As put by the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Kosovo (kcc), eulex judges working on privatization matters, “simply continued to ignore the existence of Kosovo as an independent State and its legislation emanating from its Assembly”. The kcc stated this after eulex judges working on privatization matters had refused to respect Kosovo laws and institutions subsequent to the 2008 Kosovo Declaration of Independence. This paper explores the judicial dialogue on Kosovo’s independence between eulex judges and the kcc and identifies the limitations and risks of the ‘status neutral’ policy applied by international organizations to collaborate with Kosovar institutions without prejudging its political status. This submission suggests that ‘status neutrality’ leads to either acceptance or contestation of Kosovo’s statehood and thus brings more uncertainty than clarity to Kosovo’s position in international relations.

Abstract:
Domestic food markets are of significant importance to Kosovar and Albanian companies because access to export markets is under-developed, partly as a result of the gaps in food safety and quality standards. Kosovar and Albanian consumers’ use of food safety attributes and their evaluation of the quality of domestic food versus imported food are the research objectives of this study. The paper is based on a structured consumer survey of 300 Kosovars and 349 Albanians analyzing their perceptions of issues related to food safety and quality, measured through two respective batteries of items using a 5-point Likert scale. We used the t-test to identify differences between populations, correlation analysis and the bootstrapping method. Despite the prevalent problems with food safety, consumers in both countries consider domestic food to be safer as well as of higher quality than imported products. Kosovars are more likely than Albanians to perceive domestic food products to be significantly better than imported products. Female and better educated consumers use information related to food safety more often. Expiry date, domestic and local origin, and brand reputation are the most frequently used safety and quality cues for both samples. International food standards such as ISO or HACCP are less frequently used as quality cues by these consumer groups. It is important to strengthen the institutional framework related to food safety and quality following best practices from EU countries.

Abstract:
Fires are among the most frequently recurring hazards affecting museums and cultural heritage sites. The fires of the National Museum of Brazil in 2018 and of Notre Dame de Paris in 2019 showed that the consequences of such events can be heavy and lead to irreversible heritage losses. In Kosovo, few studies were made about the risks that can affect cultural heritage sites. A project led by the NGO Kosovo Foundation for Cultural Heritage without Borders (CHwB Kosova) in 2018 explored the most prevalent risks for the cultural heritage sites of the country and highlighted fire as a predominant risk in Kosovo. In order to better understand it, vulnerability assessments were conducted in several museums in Kosovo. Data were collected through field visits in the different museums, in which interviews with staff members as well as observations were conducted. The aim of this paper is to present the main results of the fire vulnerability assessments conducted in Kosovo’s museums in 2018. An important aspect of this project is the approach to collect information in data-scarce environments. It is believed that the questionnaires used to lead interviews with museums’ staff members could help other practitioners to collect data in such contexts and evaluate more easily the risk of fire for the museums and their collections. In the context of Kosovo, one of the main findings is the identification and prioritisation of measures to ensure better protection of Kosovar museums. Structural mitigation measures such as alarm and fire suppression systems are not the only elements necessary to improve the resilience of Kosovar museums to fire. Indeed, the promotion of risk awareness, the training of staff members and the realisation of crisis simulation exercises are just as important in order to prevent and detect a fire, and above all, to respond quickly and accurately if a fire occurs.

The Monastery of Deçan is a monument of cultural heritage in Deçan-Kosova. The monastery was built in the 14th century, and is listed at the UNESCO monuments list. The monastery of Deçan is considered one of the most important cultural and monumental building pertaining to the medieval period in Kosova and in the region in general. The paper deals especially with the historical aspect of its existence as well as its architectonic properties. The architecture of monastery of Deçan is characterized by Byzantine elements, but one can also observe Roman Italian elements in its architecture. The attempts to appropriate and assimilate the historical and cultural background that is characteristic to the monastery, and classify it as a Serbian monastery are numerous and often times lack sufficient scientific basis. The monastery of Deçan, with its Roman-Gothic architecture and its unique history enriches the cultural mosaic of cultural heritage in Kosova, and as such it is part of the culture of all Kosovars.

The Kosovo Parliament's declaration of independence stated that Kosovo would continue to be bound by the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1244 (1999) (hereinafter “SC Resolution 1244 (1999)”), as well as the Ahtisaari plan. UN Special Envoy for Kosovo Martti Ahtisaari's proposal, produced in February 2007, defined Kosovo's internal settlement, minority-protection mechanisms, and allowed for independence under international supervision. The proposal increased the powers devolved to Kosovar institutions but without providing for the complete removal of international oversight and authority.

SummaryThe aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and distribution of species of intestinal parasites in the Balkans on the example of Kosovar and Serbian residents from the region of Gnjilane ineastern Kosovo, where the epidemiology of intestinal parasitic infections remains unknown. Parasitological examination of stools pecimens was performed in 2017 and 2018. Stool samples were collected from asymptomatic school-children aged 6–17 years: 530 Kosovars from the municipality of Kaçanik and310 Serbs from the municipalities of Kamenica and Strpce. Each patient provided two stool samples collected every second day, fixed in SAF preservative and 70 % spiritus vini, transported to the Department of Epidemiology and Tropical Medicine at the Military Institute of Medicine in Poland, and tested by light microscopy using three diagnostic methods: directs mearin Lugol’s solution, decantation in distilled water, and Fülleborn’s flotation. A total of 101 Kosovar children (19.1 % of the study group)were found to be infected with intestinal parasites: nematodes (n=20), cestodes (n=2), trematodes (n=2), and protozoa (n=79). Only 13 Serbian children (4.2 %) were found to beinfected with nematodes (n=4),cestodes (n=3),and protozoa (n=6). Giardia intestinalis was themost prevalent intestinal parasite in both groups (14,9 % vs. 1.9 % children). The prevalence ofasymptomatic parasitic infections was significantly higher in Kosovars in comparison to the Serbsliving in the same region of eastern Kosovo. This fact shows that there may be significant differencesin the quality of health care and sanitation as well as feed hygiene between these two communities.

Abstract:
This paper examines the usage of strategy tools from the strategy-as-practice perspective. In general, there is a lack of empirical evidence regarding the use of strategy tools, particularly in transition economies. The comprehensive and up-to-date research is mainly concerned with the extent of their use and classification. Thus, academics have already highlighted the need to review their role, importance, and use. Accordingly, this research seeks to bridge the current gap between theoretical constructs and empirical proof of the use of strategy tools in enterprises. The study design used for this research is cross-sectional and data were obtained from 314 enterprises in the Republic of Kosova, using standardized survey-based questionnaires. The purpose of this study is to assess the extent to which strategy tools are used in Kosovan enterprises. It also aims to distinguish their use according to educational background of managers/owners, enterprise size and across different sectors. The results of this study reveal that Kosovan enterprises have a low usage rate of strategy tools. More precisely, the two most used strategy tools are SWOT analysis and vision and mission statements. This paper provides some important insights into strategy tools usage in the Republic of Kosova, as a transition economy. While it provides a better understanding and awareness of strategy tools usage, there are other possible study areas that could offer significant value in future research.

The article discusses Kosovo’s emergence as a nation and state and its ramifications for political discourse and indeed national or pan-national politics in Kosovo and Albania in the first place. How did writers and fighters – representatives of cultural enlightenment and militant struggle – create an autonomous Kosovar polity initially, before it became an independent country in its own right at the turn of the century and millennium? Will there soon be separate histories of Albanian and Kosovar national literature, culture, art, etc., against this backdrop? These and a range of other issues will be explored.

Abstract:
Departing from the “double-eagle affair” at the World Cup 2018, this article analyses several dimensions of the “Swiss connection” between football, migration and Kosovar diaspora nation-building in the early 21st century. After a massive influx of Kosovar refugees during the 1990s, the Kosovar community in Switzerland included around 200.000 people in the early 21st century. Some of them founded migrant football clubs, and a number of players with Kosovar roots even pursued international careers as professionals. Two of them, Granit Xhaka and Xherdan Shaqiri, caused quite a stir when celebrating their goals as Swiss national players against Serbia at the 2018 World Cup with the hand gesture of the Albanian double-eagle. Yet, the Kosovar “Swiss connection” in football has several other dimensions: The admission of Kosovo to FIFA and UEFA wasn’t only supported by the Swiss Football Association (and indirectly by the Swiss government’s favourable stance regarding Kosovar independence), but even more so by Swiss national players with Kosovar roots. The newly established national team of Kosovo profited from players brought up in Switzerland as well as a Swiss coach, whilst on the other hand several key players of the Swiss national team of the early 21st century were of Kosovar extraction. This, together with the good performance of immigrant teams such as FC Kosova Zurich helped to change the hitherto rather negative image of Kosovar migrants in Swiss society, whilst at the same time initiating processes of self-reflection about Switzerland’s quality as a multicultural immigrant society.

Abstract:
The Republic of Kosovo was created several years after the breakup of the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia. Its problems were visible during Josip Broz Tito’s presidency. Over the last ten years Kosovo has had two female presidents. The question is, what is the position of women on the Kosovan political scene? This phenomenon is particularly significant from the point of view of the post-conflict reconstruction of the state. The aim of this article is to analyse the evolution of the role of Kosovo Albanian women in the politics of Kosovo at the central level. For this reason, the article includes women involved in the armed conflict in Kosovo, especially in the activities of the Kosovo Liberation Army (KLA, alb. Ushtria Çlirimtare e Kosovës, UÇK). The author also presents the role of women in the Kosovan political arena since 1999, with particular emphasis on changes that took place after the declaration of independence of Kosovo. Furthermore, the author examines the profiles of selected female politicians. The article is based on an analysis of primary and secondary sources, the comparative and historical method, and an analysis of statistical data.

Abstract:

Abstract:
Abstract This article focuses on the use of sport by the Spanish Government to perform its non-recognition of Kosovo’s statehood. Our main goal is to analyse the practices and narratives through which Spain’s public authorities have carried out this policy in the sporting arena. Likewise, we set two specific objectives: to examine the administrative measures adopted by the Spanish government when a Kosovan team has participated in an event hosted in Spain; and to describe the policies and discourses regarding the display of Kosovo’s national symbols in these competitions. The study is based on a qualitative approach of five major tournaments that have taken place (or due to) in Spain between 2018 and 2019. The documentation has been mainly gathered through desk-research. The three major data sources have been media press releases, Spanish Government’s communiqués and sporting federation’s statements. We underline that the policies adopted by the Spanish authorities respond to a systematic strategy to give no room for a potential understanding of Kosovo as a sovereign state. Likewise, we highlight that Madrid’s attitude towards the Balkan country must be understood keeping in mind its own internal politics, specifically the nationalist claims from Catalonia and the Basque Country.

Abstract:
Background: The aim of our study was to assess the knowledge and attitudes about type 2 diabetes (T2D) in Kosovars patients, as well as self-efficacy toward eating behavior, and determine the impact of diabetes on patients' daily work and lifestyle practices. Methods and Results: This analytical cross-sectional survey was performed among 400 T2D patients (203 males and 197 females) to assess their knowledge, attitude, and practice regarding diabetic diet and eating habits. It was conducted from February to May 2023 in Kosovo's rural and urban areas. Knowledge, attitudes, and eating behavior were assessed using the self-administered 28-item sets related to glycemic control, physical activity, risk of complications, foot care, and food and nutrition. The largest proportion (42.3%) was made up of the patients over 60 years of age; 41.5% were 40-60 years of age, and only 16.3% were 30-40 years old. Most of the patients were males (50.8%); more than 87% were married. Interviewed participants did not have enough knowledge about the consumption of foods with more fruits, beverages, and sweets. Generally, participants had poor knowledge about the impact of DM on health. Most diabetics in Kosovo still have suboptimal diet practices, choosing to base their main meals around carbohydrates containing food with a high glycemic index, such as white bread and potatoes most of the time. In our case, 38.8% of participants never exercised during the week because they did not know the importance of exercise to treat their disease. In our study, we found no association between the level of diabetes-related knowledge and age, gender, or the years since the patient was diagnosed. A worrying fact for Kosovar patients is that there are no diabetes counseling centers in the regions where they live. Conclusion: There is a need to increase awareness of the complications of diabetes and consequently improve nutrition knowledge, attitudes, and practices. The benefits of early detection of T2D through screening in the general population are needed in Kosovo.

Abstract:
Background: Health information systems (HIS) are considered a vital tool to strengthen Low- and Middle-Income Countries’ (LMIC) health systems. Unfortunately, little is known about the technical factors of HIS in LMIC. Objective: This study aimed to make an empirical contribution, using the case of Kosova to find out about HIS development, trying to identify dysfunctional areas and opportunities for improvement. Methods: Technical factors of the PRISM framework were analyzed via document analysis, and semi-structured interviews were held with 15 respondents from the Ministry of Health, the National Institute of Public Health of Kosova, and the Hospital Clinical University Services of Kosova. Interviews were transcribed and coded deductively, using the defined theoretical framework to guide the content analysis. Results: The results indicate that MoH considered technical factors while developing HIS in Kosova. Nevertheless, HIS fulfills only some of the essential functions. Barriers to efficient HIS among technical factors are lengthy, time-consuming manual HIS forms, inadequate data from HIS forms for NIPHK analysis, difficulties when changing software and HIS economic operators, and the complexity of HIS functioning. Conclusion: Kosova still faces technical difficulties with an efficient and sustainable HIS system. Complex processes of extensive efforts have yet to produce the desired results, which prevent evidence-based health analysis and informed decision-making in Kosovar healthcare. More research is needed into organizational and behavioral factors influencing HIS efficiency in LMIC.

Abstract:
After the Cold War, states focused their campaigns on self‐promotion on the global stage, so media diplomacy has been pushed to the periphery, hence not being a central research theme. However, the geopolitical clashes over Kosovo and the war in Ukraine have repositioned the role of media diplomacy in international politics. This paper aims to analyze Kosovo's media diplomacy in the following key moments: at the time of the declaration of independence (2008), and during the Russian aggression in Ukraine (2022). Data were collected from global media such as CNN, Al Jazeera, Reuters, and The New York Times, which have given space to Kosovo’s political actors and influential global politicians. The US president Bush was the example of the enormous media coverage in 2008. Messages of these communications were analyzed using the framing method. The results show that media diplomacy revived in three cases: before and after Kosovo's declaration of independence in 2008, and again in 2022, with the fear that the Russian scenario for Ukraine would be followed by Serbia against Kosovo. Also, media diplomacy today establishes communications between countries with no diplomatic relations and even between countries with strained relationships.

Abstract:
This article aims to make an initial probe into parent involvement in children’s academic-related activities and how this is affected by the parents’ gender, education and employment variables. Most of the articles written on parental academic support focus on corroborating the positive relationship of parental involvement with student school achievement and cover samples from countries other than Kosova. This is the first correlational study which aims to show the significance of relationships of the specific demographic variables of Kosovar parents and the frequency of their homework help. Data are analysed using frequency distribution and chi-square for the correlation significance. The findings corroborate a higher percentage of females in parental involvement, and a negative correlation of parental involvement with employment and level of education. Implications and explanations for future research and practice are discussed. Keywords: Academic success, homework help, Kosovar education, parent involvement, primary level.

Abstract:
In this paper we look at the background of the Kosovo problem, its intensification since the 1980s in particular, the response of the international community leading finally to bombing. We also look at whether the international community was able to achieve its objective of preventing ethnic violence and cleansing. Yugoslavia had been a mosaic of ethnic groups with long histories of conflict but without segregated housing patterns. While the other ethnic groups feared Serbian domination in Yugoslavia where the Serbs were the largest ethnic group, the Serbs feared domination in the regions where they were in a minority. Ethnic conflict was aggravated by the economic crisis in the 80s which widened economic disparities, and also because of differences about the relative importance of the state and the market in economic management. The Serbs favoured a more controlled economy and the others a more liberal economy. The conflict in Kosovo flared up with the Serbs trying to limit Kosovar autonomy; the Kosovars retaliated by demanding greater autonomy initially and independence later. The resulting armed conflict led to considerable killing. The international community leaned heavily on the Serbs and their leader Milosevic to stop the repression, but failed. Ultimately the western countries had to resort to bombing. While this resulted in the capitulation by the Serbs, the problem was not solved as now the Kosovars started purging the Serbs. If the objective was to preserve a multi-ethnic Yugoslavia, the Western powers seemed to have failed.

Abstract:
The Balkans has a long history drenched in turmoil. Kosovo’s independence has been part of that historical context. As such, it is framed by the long-standing religious conflict between the Albanian Moslems and Serbian Christians. Both claim to have historically established claims to Kosovo. This document will stress how the story of Tamar’s birth of twin sons in Genesis 38: 2730 mirrors the re-birth of Kosovar’s independence in 2008. Tamar’s twin sons Perez and Zerah were born under confusing circumstances whereby the question of which son was born first posed two different interpretations. Similarly, both the Albanian Moslems and the Serbian Christians have asserted the first claim over Kosovo based on different interpretations of the historical record regarding who first occupied that land.

Abstract The author examines the activities and relations between the writers’ associations of Kosova and Serbia during the second half of the 1980s. He focuses on the interaction between the two cultural institutions and the debates they organized between the mid-1980s and the end of the decade. While political relations were deteriorating, the meetings of the two associations were intended to form a channel for communication which it was hoped would stimulate debate among intellectuals about then-current relations between Kosovar-Albanians and Serbs. But, as this study explains, those attempts ended in endless disagreements over “historical truths.”

AbstractThe University of Prishtina “Hasan Prishtina” is the biggest higher education institution in Kosovo, which ever since its foundation has held the main burden of education and the development of the Kosovar society. If in the past the University of Prishtina was not only a hearth of knowledge, but also an icon of Kosova’s high education, now its mission is to offer stable and qualitative education to the new generation, functioning as an asset for the development and the strengthening of the Kosovar society. Currently, the UP is the biggest higher education institution in the Kosovo, with 42.006 students, above 1.000 academic staff members and around 350 administrative staff members, accommodated in 14 Academic Units. The research conducted in this paper reflects quality aspects in artistic education for sustainable product design, especially in art, architecture, creativity and innovation in academia curricula. The research methods consist of empirical observation in academia, direct observation of teaching methods, and promoting contemporary interactive teaching methods. To perceive a clearer research data, exploring was made within: The department of Architecture, Department of Anthropology-Archeology, The faculty of Arts in the University of Prishtina, also with UBT - Higher Education Institution in Kosovo, in the context of the possibilities for the improvement of the curricula’s, within actual and accredited academic frameworks. Research concludes that new teaching strategies must involve a new closeness, a brand new and more refining holistic system, as a response to less functional academic curriculums.
