To evaluate the total ionizing dose (TID) response of periphery devices with 65 nm flash memory, the TID effects of the main and parasitic transistor have been investigated based on the proposed novel parameter extraction approach. By analyzing post-radiation behavior of the device's drain current and interface trap density, it has been proven that the parasitic transistor demonstrates stronger radiation dependence than the main transistor. With the proposed approach, the roles of the parasitic transistor and main transistor in the TID effect are quantitatively characterized. For a W =10 μm HV

The present paper reports the results of a study of dielectric ageing of Ethylene Propylene Diene Monomer (EPDM) by gamma radiation. EPDM flat specimens were aged under gamma radiation with three different doses. Samples were irradiated in air up to 300 kRad with a dose rate of 51 kRad/h using a 60Co gamma source. The resistance to tracking on applying DC and AC voltage was examined. We found that the DC resistance to tracking is lower than the AC resistance. The tracking resistance under –ve DC voltages are lower than +ve DC values. With the increase in radiation dose, the DC and AC tracking

Abstract This paper presents research work focused on assessments for meeting the challenge of monitoring actinide content in spent nuclear fuel (SNF) via characteristic neutron emissions [from spontaneous fission and (α,n) reactions] with CTMFDs. A challenge problem was posed to examine if a CTMFD could operate reliably over 1 hour for conducting neutron spectroscopy at a 1 m standoff from a 30-y cooled SNF, in a ~1012:1 (gamma:neutron) and a 150 Gy (15 kRad) accumulated dose. The impacts on operability were studied for the effects of gamma radiation on: (i) radiolysis in the CTMFD sensing fl

The influence of foliar-applied phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) on leaf photosynthesis, transpiration and water use efficiency during the season was studied in Malus domestica ‘Golden Delicious’. The research was carried out on 14-year-old trees on M9 rootstocks. Trees were either sprayed with PK (Hascon M 10 AD), P (Radicon) or K fertiliser (Krad) or left unsprayed (control). PK spraying improved leaf potassium content and postponed the seasonal decrease in leaf potassium concentration. In other treatments, on the other hand, fertilizers were less effective in terms of leaf nutrient concentr

Abstract In the early 1900s, the heat transfer state of the art in the United States of America (USA) lagged far behind that in Europe, especially in Germany. The initial 35 years of the 20th century, however, saw major changes take place as the process industry and other research institutions increasingly began requiring a better understanding of heat and mass transfer. While many individuals have since made important contributions to the field, both past and contemporary peers in the heat and mass transfer community have identified two pioneers as having played key roles in this effort in th

Measurement of physics processes at new energy frontier experiments requires excellent spatial, time, and energy resolutions to resolve the structure of collimated high-energy jets. In a future Muon Collider, beam-induced backgrounds (BIB) represent the main challenge in the design of the detectors and of the event reconstruction algorithms. The technology and the design of the calorimeters should be chosen to reduce the effect of the BIB, while keeping good physics performance. Several requirements can be inferred: (i) high granularity to reduce the overlap of BIB particles in the same calori

This paper presents a BiCMOS low-noise amplifier (LNA) operating at G-band (140 to 220 GHz) that is robust against harsh operation conditions, namely large temperature variations and radiation exposure. A SiGe technology (IHP’s 0.13-μm SG13G2) has been used for the amplifier design, due to its suitability for millimeter wave (mmW) frequencies and its built-in tolerance to total ionizing dose (TID) radiation. To address the impact of temperature variations on HBTs, the negative temperature dependence of the gain is compensated with a positive temperature dependent collector current, ge

Another type of head injury seen in injured cyclists is diffuse brain injuries, but little is known about the protection provided by bicycle helmets against these injuries. Here, we examine the performance of modern bicycle helmets in preventing diffuse injuries and skull fractures under impact conditions that represent a range of real-world incidents. We also investigate the effects of helmet technology, price, and mass on protection against these pathologie

Abstract:
In a commercial fiber-based quantum key distribution system, the local and signal optical fields are transmitted through long distance fibers using time division multiplexing and polarization multiplexing. The state of polarization of the optical fields is inevitably disturbed by random birefringence of the standard single-mode fiber caused by external complex environments. This drift of the state of polarization significantly affects the balanced homodyne detection results and the secret key rate. Therefore, the key technology of the dynamic polarization control unit is crucial for the system
