Abstract:
In the present times, the use of air cooled condenser (ACC) has become generalized where the installation of power plants is required and access to condensation water is difficult. At present it is known that performing the thermal evaluation of an ACC is a complex task, since the existing methods do not consider all the elements that directly influence the performance of the ACC. A very widespread method is that attributed to Kröger, however its use does not provide adequate results for high values of environmental temperature, which is a limitation to be applied in tropical countries like Cuba. This document provides an analysis method that includes the effect of environmental variables and that allows reasonable results to be obtained for high values of ambient temperature. The new proposal follows the logical sequence of the Kröger method, but considering a new procedure for the determination of the mean heat transfer coefficients and pressure drops, required for the thermal evaluation of ACC.

Abstract:
This paper analyzes the possibilities of artistic creation, of literature in particular, to provide our experience with ethical imagination. In three works of Thomas Mann —Tristan, Tonio Kröger and Death in Venice— the author shows the conflict of the artist in the modern world and its relationship with the ethical configuration of the existence. Hence, the central question is, how can language help in the configuration of our morality?

Abstract:
In CeO2-based solid electrolytes, it has been shown that point defects are directly responsible for oxygen ionic conduction. The ionic conductivity is strongly affected by the anion vacancy concentration which is enhanced by doping with aliovalent cations. When rare earth sesquioxides such as La2O3, Gd2O3, Sm2O3, Y2O3 are added to CeO2, the dopant cation substitutes for the cerium ion, and oxygen vacancies are created for charge compensation. Incorporation of trivalent dopants into CeO2 at the Ce4+ sites can be depicted by the following defect reaction (expressed in Kröger-Vink notation):

Abstract:
Leaching of iron from ilmenite ore using a binary solution (HCl-NaNO3) was investigated. The raw ilmenite ore sample was characterized using Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) and X-ray Flourescence (XRF) techniques. The influence of acid concentration, oxidant concentration, particle size, solution temperature, stirring speed and liquid-to-solid ratios on the extent of dissolution was examined. The experimental data obtained at various process parameter conditions were tested in six kinetics models: shrinking core model’s diffusion through liquid film model(DTLF), diffusion through product layer model (DTPL), surface chemical reaction model (SCR)); mixed kinetics model (MKM), Jander (three dimensional) model and Kröger and Ziegler model. The crystalline morphology of the sample was displayed by the SEM micrograph. XRF result revealed the dominance of titanium and iron in ilmenite while XRD confirmed that ilmenite exist mainly as FeTiO2. The results of the leaching studies showed that ilmenite dissolution in the binary solution increases with increasing acid concentration, oxidant concentration, reaction temperature, stirring speed and liquid-to-solid ratio; while it decreases with particle size. The study showed that 94.77% iron was dissolved by 1MHCl-0.6M NaNO3 at 75μm particle size, 75˚C reaction temperature, 300rpm stirring speed and 30L/g liquid-to-solid ratio. The kinetics of the leaching process was best described by Kröger and Ziegler model with diffusion through the product layer as rate controlling step. The activation energy, Ea, was calculated to be 6.42kJ/mol. The results indicate that HCl-NaNO3 binary solution can be used as an effective lixiviant for extracting iron from ilmenite ores.

Abstract:
The following scientific paper aims to show the realization of the romantic concept of a progressive universal poetry by Friedrich Schlegel on the basis of the works of E.T.A. Hoffmann and Thomas Mann. To this purpose, the fairy tale “The Golden Pot” (“Der goldene Topf”) and the novella “Tonio Kröger” are subject to analysis. In the analysis of the literary works and the presentation of the poetics of the writers, the main emphasis is on the problem of the relationship between poetry and reality, spirit and nature, which lies at the basis of the concept of the duplicity of being. Keywords: cognition, truth, duplicity, dualism, literary-aesthetic reflections.

Abstract:
Grain boundaries in yttria-stabilized cubic zirconia (YSZ) are believed to have positively charged grain boundaries with compensating negative space charge layers at ambient temperatures and pressures [1]. The space charge region is formed by equilibrium segregation of point defects to the vicinity of the grain boundary to establish local charge neutrality. The point defect distributions, calculated from analytical space charge models [1] show that the negative space charge region is formed by a depletion oxygen vacancies and an excess of substitutional Y atoms, indicated as'VO” and YZr’ in standard Kröger-Vink notation (see fig. 1). The grain boundary segregation, in turn, has important ramifications for the mechanical and electrical behavior of the material [1,2]. The present work addresses space-charge segregation in YSZ, specifically addressing variations in segregation with grain boundary misorientation. We have examined a range of symmetric tilt [001] YSZ grain boundaries since they allow us to systematically vary the misorientation while providing the opportunity for atomic scale analysis.

Single Crystalline Langatate (La3Ta0.5Ga5.5O14, LTG) Has Been Widely Used in Piezoelectric Sensors for High Temperature Applications because of its Structural Stability at High Temperature. however, in the Recent Experiment, an Increase of Electrical Conductivity Has Been Also Observed at the Intermediate Temperature Region Ranges from 300 to 700°C. Also, in Theoretical Calculations, Penta-Valent Ta Vacancy Can Be Easily Generated and Influence Resistivity Degradation of the Crystal. In this Study, to Elucidate the Ta Vacancy Effects on Electrical Conductivity of LTG and Recently Proposed Ba-Based P321 Crystal such as BTGS and BTAS, Electrical Conductivity of those Materials Were Calculated and Compared by Utilizing Boltzmann Transport Theory. The Calculated GW Band Gaps of Perfect BTGS and BTAS (5.94 Ev and 6.69 Ev, Respectivily) Were much Larger than that of LTG (5.36 Ev). Also, at Intermediate Temperature (1000K), the Calculated Electrical Conductivity of LTG with V'''''Ta (in Kröger-Vink Notation [13]) Was around Twelve Times Higher than the Conductivity of BTGS and BTAS with Ta Vacancy.

Abstract:
In this paper, a series of structurally modified silicate-substituted apatite co-doped with Sr2+ and Eu3+ ions were synthesized by a microwave-assisted hydrothermal method. The concentration of Sr2+ ions was set at 2 mol% and Eu3+ ions were established in the range of 0.5–2 mol% in a molar ratio of calcium ion amount. The XRD (X-ray powder diffraction) technique and infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy were used to characterize the obtained materials. The Kröger–Vink notation was used to explain the possible charge compensation mechanism. Moreover, the study of the spectroscopic properties (emission, emission excitation and emission kinetics) of the obtained materials as a function of optically active ions and annealing temperature was carried out. The luminescence behavior of Eu3+ ions in the apatite matrix was verified by the Judd–Ofelt (J-O) theory and discussed in detail. The temperature-dependent emission spectra were recorded for the representative materials. Furthermore, the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) chromaticity coordinates and correlated color temperature were determined by the obtained results.

Abstract:
Abstract. There is an international commitment to develop a comprehensive, coordinated and sustained ocean observation system. However, a foundation for any observing, monitoring or research effort is effective and reliable in situ sensor technologies that accurately measure key environmental parameters. Ultimately, the data used for modelling efforts, management decisions and rapid responses to ocean hazards are only as good as the instruments that collect them. There is also a compelling need to develop and incorporate new or novel technologies to improve all aspects of existing observing systems and meet various emerging challenges. Assessment of Sensor Performance was a cross-cutting issues session at the international OceanSensors08 workshop in Warnemünde, Germany, which also has penetrated some of the papers published as a result of the workshop (Denuault, 2009; Kröger et al., 2009; Zielinski et al., 2009). The discussions were focused on how best to classify and validate the instruments required for effective and reliable ocean observations and research. The following is a summary of the discussions and conclusions drawn from this workshop, which specifically addresses the characterisation of sensor systems, technology readiness levels, verification of sensor performance and quality management of sensor systems.

Abstract:
Eu3+-doped Sr10(PO4)6(OH)2–Sr3(PO4)2 (SrHAp-TSP) composites were obtained via the microwave-stimulated hydrothermal method and post-heat-treated from 750 to 950 °C. Concentration of the Eu3+ ions was set to be 0.5, 1, 2, 3, 5 mol% in a ratio of the strontium ions molar content. The structural and morphological properties were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction (XRPD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) techniques. The average particle size of the studied materials annealed at 750, 850 and 950 °C were counted about 100, 131 and 173 nm, respectively. The luminescence properties depending on the dopant ion concentration, heat-treatment temperature, excitation wavelength and temperature were investigated. In the emission spectra, a broad peak corresponding to the 4f65d1 → 4f7 (8S7/2) emission of Eu2+ ions as well as narrow 4f-4f transitions typical for Eu3+ ions can be observed. The luminescence intensity of the 1 mol% Eu3+:Sr10(PO4)6(OH)2–Sr3(PO4)2 was measured depending on the ambient temperature in the range of 80–550 K. The CIE 1931 (International Commission on Illumination) chromaticity diagram was determined from emission spectra measured in 80, 300 and 550 K. The reduction mechanism of the Eu3+ to the Eu2+ was explained by the charge compensation mechanism based on the Kröger–Vink-notation. The decay times were measured and the Judd–Ofelt (J–O) theory was applied to analyze the observed structural and spectroscopic features.

Abstract:
A series of La1−xSrxCrO3(0⩽x⩽0.3) composite oxides were prepared by a modified citric method. These perovskite oxides were further modified with Ru through impregnation. X-ray diffraction, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and temperature-programmed-reduction (TPR) techniques were adopted to investigate the properties of both the as-prepared perovskite oxides and the surface-Ru-modified La1−xSrxCrO3 samples. XPS results indicated the existence of Cr6+ ions in the fresh samples and transformed to Cr3+ after reduction. The hydrogen consumed by these perovskite oxides during TPR increased with the Sr doping, which was more than twice of the theoretical value according to Kröger-Vink notation. The reduction temperature of Cr ions of Ru∕La1−xSrxCrO3 significantly decreased with an increase of the Ru loading. A small reduction peak at ∼540°C, which was not shifted by increasing Ru loadings, was observed and could be ascribed to the reduction of trace chromate phases. On all TPR profiles of the three doped perovskites with unity of the A-site and B-site ratio, the reduction of Ru species could not be observed at low Ru loadings (0.05% and 0.1%). A reduction peak from RuO2 particles appeared at temperatures prior to the perovskite reduction on the TPR plots of modified La0.9Sr0.1CrO3 and La0.8Sr0.2CrO3 with high Ru loading (0.5% and 1%, respectively), but it did not occur with the Ru modified La0.7Sr0.3CrO3 in the investigated Ru loading range. The TPR results of the Ru modified La0.8Sr0.2Cr0.95O3 depicted that some Ru ions might be stabilized due to the incorporation into the oxide.

Abstract:
Gosta Esping-Andersen's (1990) The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism has become one of the most cited works in social policy (over 20,600 Google Scholar citations; 20 October 2014). This path-breaking work, with its identification of three distinct forms of welfare capitalism in high income countries, has become the basis for a whole academic industry described as the Welfare Modelling Business (Abrahamson 1999; Powell and Barrientos 2011). According to Headey et al. (1997: 332), it has become a canon in comparative social policy against which any subsequent work must situate itself. Abrahamson (1999) notes that, since the publication of the book, every welfare state scholar has referred to Esping-Andersen's tripolar scheme. Scruggs and Allen (2006: 55, 69) remark that it ‘is difficult to find an article comparing welfare states in advanced democratic countries (or a syllabus on social policy) that does not refer to this seminal work’, and ‘it is hard to overstate the significance of the impact of The Three Worlds of Welfare Capitalism (TWWC) on comparative studies of the welfare state’. Its seminal status is evidenced by the extent to which it continues to be cited in articles on comparative welfare states. It also remains required reading for most (graduate) students of comparative political economy and social policy (Scruggs and Allen, 2008). Kröger (2011) claims that, with few exceptions, comparative social policy research is shaped by welfare regime analysis. Arts and Gelissen conclude that TWWC is a defining influence upon the whole field of comparative welfare state research (2010: 569). Danforth (2014) writes that the ‘three worlds’ typology has become one of the principal heuristics for examining modern welfare states. In short, TWWC is a ‘modern classic’ (Arts and Gelissen, 2002).

SCHNEIDER, MARGARET A. "A taxonomic revision of Australian Conopidae (Insecta: Diptera)." Zootaxa 2581, no. 1 (August 31, 2010): 1. http://dx.doi.org/10.11646/zootaxa.2581.1.1.

Full text
Abstract:
A taxonomic revision of the Australian Conopidae is presented. Nineteen genera in four subfamilies are recognised. The Stylogasterinae are represented by the cosmopolitan genus Stylogaster Macquart and the Myopinae by Myopa Fabricius and Thecophora Rondani. A monotypic genus, Notoconops gen. nov., is described and placed in a new subfamily, Notoconopinae. The remaining fifteen Australian genera are assigned to the Conopinae. Australoconops Camras, Chrysidiomyia Kröber, Conops Linnaeus, Delkeskampomyia Kröber, Heteroconops Kröber, Microconops Kröber, Neoconops Kröber, Pleurocerina Macquart, Physocephala Schiner, Smartiomyia Kröber and Stenoconops Kröber are redescribed. Four new conopine genera are described: Atrichoparia; Camrasiconops; Setosiconops; and Tanyconops, with the following resultant new combinations: Atrichoparia curticornis (Kröber) (from Heteroconops); Camrasiconops ater (Camras) and Ca. rufofemoris (Camras) (from Microconops); and Setosiconops robustus (Kröber) (from Neoconops). Callosiconops Kröber and Paraconops Kröber are regarded as junior synonyms of Chrysidiomyia and Pleurocerina respectively with the following resultant new combinations: Chrysidiomyia hirsuta (Kröber), Pleurocerina aristalis (Camras), P. longicornis (Kröber), P. nigrifacies (Kröber), P. similis (Kröber), P. turneri (Camras). A total of 100 species of Australian Conopidae are now recognised. No new species of Myopinae or Stylogasterinae are described. Representative species only of Atrichoparia, Camrasiconops, Heteroconops and Microconops are described. All species of the other 12 genera are described or redescribed. These include the following 45 new species,: Australoconops aglaos, A. aurantius, A. balteus, A. breviplatus, A. brunneus, A. camrasi, A. cantrelli, A. elegans, A. fulvitarsus, A. furvus, A. nebrias, A. neuter, A. pallorivittus, A. phaeomeros, A. ruficrus, A. vespoides; Chrysidiomyia rugifrons, C. setosa; Conops aureolus, C. badius, C. chvalai, C. sparsus; Heteroconops carnarvonensis; Neoconops brevistylus, N. glaber; Notoconops alexanderi, Pleurocerina aquila, P. brevis, P. chrysopyga, P. lamellata, P. lutea,P. luteiceps, P. occidua, P. saxatilis, P. scutellata, P. vespiformis; Setosiconops epixanthus, Se. similis, Smartiomyia arena, Sm. cerina, Sm. danielsi, Sm. macalpinei; Tanyconops longicaudus, T. luteus, T. ocellatus. Australoconops ocellatus (de Meijere) comb. nov. is resurrected from synonymy with A. aurosus (Newman). Conops demeijerei Kröber is considered a junior synonym of C. seminiger de Meijere. A lectotype and paralectotypes are designated for Microconops fasciatus Kröber. Anatomical features used in descriptions are discussed and illustrated. Special attention has been given to the ultrastructure of spicules on female genital structures. These spicules show differences between genera and species. The high degree of endemism of the Australian fauna is discussed in relation to the world fauna and some preliminary thoughts on phylogenetic relationships are presented. A catalogue of the Australian Conopidae is included as an Appendix.

Abstract:
A model, dubbed the inverse Kröner model, is proposed to calculate the diffraction elastic constants from the elastic constants of a single crystal. It is related to the classic Kröner model, and both are identified as bounds on the diffraction elastic constants. Through the grain shape as controlling parameter, the classic Kröner model is bound by thehkl-independent mechanical limit given by the bulk elastic constants of the matrix, while the inverse Kröner model approaches the Reuss limit.

Abstract:
The genus Actorthia Kröber, 1912 was described based on a single female from Tourrah (Egypt) and is revised for the first time since the original description. Actorthia khedivialis (Becker, 1912) is newly synonymized with A. frontata (Kröber, 1912) based on examination of the type specimens of both species recently discovered in the Cairo University Collection (Egypt) and Natural History Museum (Austria), respectively. Actorthia efflatouni Kröber, 1925 is confirmed as a synonym of A. micans (Kröber, 1923) and Actorthia olivierii (Macquart, 1840) is transferred to Phycus. Actorthia pulchella Kröber, 1927 is recorded in Israel for the first time. The three Egyptian species of Actorthia are diagnosed and illustrated along with colour images of the type specimens, and a key to the Egyptian species is included.

Abstract:
Background:The protagonism of regulatory B cells seems to vary along the course of the disease in murine models of inflammatory conditions. Decreased numbers of circulating regulatory CD19+CD24hiCD38hi transitional B cells (cTrB) have been described in patients with longstanding RA.Objectives:To examine the frequency and evolution of cTrB cells in the peripheral blood of early RA (ERA) patients. Methods:Freshly isolated PBMCs from 48 steroid and DMARD-naïve ERA patients with a disease duration below 24 weeks and 48 healthy controls (HC) were examined by flow cytometry. Cocultures of isolated memory B cells were established with autologous T cells, in the absence or presence of TrB cells. Results:As compared with HC, ERA patients demonstrated an increased frequency of cTrB cells. cTrBs of ERA and HC displayed an anti-inflammatory cytokine profile and were able to downregulate T cell IFNγ and IL-21 production, together with ACPA secretion in autologous B/T cell cocultures. Basal frequencies of cTrBs above the median value observed in HC were associated with a good EULAR response to MTX at 12 months (RR=2.91; 95% CI, 1.37-6.47). A significant reduction of cTrBs was observed 12 months after initiating MTX, when the cTrB cell frequency was no longer elevated but decreased, and this was independent of the degree of clinical response or the intake of prednisone. Conclusion:An increased frequency of regulatory cTrB cells is apparent in untreated ERA, and the baseline cTrB cell frequency is associated with the clinical response to MTX at 12 months.References:[1]Matsushita T, et al.
